Updating error - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One time, when I tried an update an error occured, the phone reboot and said: "the device has been reported to the initial configuration". Now there is no notification to update. I have to do it manually.
What is the problem ?
i did a factory reset but it doesn't prompt me again if i want to update.
I did this tuto: http://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=14962 to receive OTA
but nothing changes and i'm now onto 2.20.40.97 but each time i have to update manually.
And now when i go into recovery it show me: "installing system update..." and few seconds later it show me error (with the android logo)..
Can you help me ?

up please help me.
I succeed to (re) update to .97 with recovery: i put the firmware onto sd and internal root storage named mofd_sdupdate.zip and it update BUT I don't know if i can receive updtaes notifications...

That error logo is not a problem as long as the device wasn't updating. Also, I never received any notifications for OTA except once.

OTA update

I've received 4.4.2 update today(with verification failed message beneath), after download I was asked to restart and install, and it redirected to TWRP(2.6.3.1 for flo), so I rebooted the system only to see the 4.4 version again in 'About System', the next time I received OTA updated with in a span of five minutes, the same problem repeated again. So I downloaded OTA zip file and tried to install though TWRP, but there was an error "Error executing updater binary in zip".
So I tried adb sideload but got an error "Device not found", So it just appears like all doors are closed for me..Please provide a solution to this
My device is unlocked as well as rooted

[Q] HELP! GPE lollipop OTA Update Error, no apps loading after that

Hello All,
I have GPE version of GPad running Kitkat 4.4 Stock ROM. Last month I have used following link to enable chromecast mirroring. Due to the issues i have uninstalled superuser app and did factory reset. After that all well! I mean no issues with tablet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193
Yesterday I tried to sideload the GPE lollipop update but prompted with following error.
"/system/etc/audio_policy.conf" has unexpected contents.
E:Error in /tmp/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
This morning I saw system update notification for Lollipop upgrade and opted to install it, but without any further msg during the system update it prompted with "Error!" After that I did factory reset. When it reboots starts optimizing 48 apps, but it prompts with following sequence of messages:
"Unfortunately sun beam has stopped. "
None of the apps loaded , no access to setting, just empty screen and on screen buttons at the bottom.
I spent quite some time looking around in xda to restore back to factory, none seems to work.
1. Tried flashing original stock .tot file, getting "Download user image is only available in the online environment!!
2. adb sideload, "/system/etc/audio_policy.conf" has unexpected contents
3. To Flash TWRP i am not getting access to setting to enable USB debugging.
Now i cant even put the G Pad in adb as i dont have access to settings to put in USB debug mode. vol down+power puts into bootloader, but cant access to adb commands.
Now I can only access to recovery and do sideload. but i am stuck with "/system/etc/audio_policy.conf" has unexpected contents error. Can someone share kitkat original version of audio_policy.conf? also how i can replace the exiting file as i dont have access to adb?
Greatly appreciate your help to bring back the G Pad.
regards
Raj
You can boot twrp from fastboot and flash either 4.4.4 or 5.0 back onto your tablet. Look at the thread in Android development for more details on flashing the stock images using twrp
Thanks! I was able to get back to kitkat with following method. I was able to flash recovery its now back to complete stock kitkat now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...510-gpe-4-4-4-ktu84p-l002-stock-twrp-t2797883
After this I got system update notification to lollipop. Again got "Error!" msg during the install process.
I tried adb side load, got following error!
failed to verify whole-file signature
signature verification failed
installation aborted.
Any thought whats going wrong there?

Android One: Recovery mode warning sign

Hi,
I had previously rooted my device: Android 1 - Micromax Canvas A1. I also had installed CWM on my device. For some reason, I have removed recovery mode and unrooted my device. My device had Marshmallow with February patch.
But whenever I try to get OTA it doesn't get succesfull. Whenever I try to go into recovery mode it shows my dead android with warning sign saying "No command!". When I try to press "Power Key + Volume UP" I get error message saying "Error in @/cache/recovery/block.map (status 7)".
Reading few posts, I understood that some system files got corrupted and I won't get OTA updates. So downloaded one Zip files and I flashed all the *.img files (recovery, system, boot, etc). Now my system had Android 5.1. But I'm getting same error while going into recovery mode.
I also tried to use "Smart Phone Flash Tool " but whenever I click "Download button" it stucks in the same state showing no progress.
I have read many posts and tried many things but I'm stuck at this stage. Can anybody help me out of this problem?
Update: Though I wasn't able to get into recovery mode directly. I (major) updated my device from KitKat to Marshmallow. Then, minor updates also went fine. Now, I'm on latest April 2016 update. Still, when I try to get into recovery mode, I still see "No Command". But after pressing Volume Up + Power button I get the recovery option. Is this default behavior.

Getting (status 7) error when I try to flash the OTA manually

Hello all. I have HTC__J15 device and currently on 1.30.401.1 . I tried the mentioned step and I'm getting an error when i try to flash the OTA
"System partition has unexpected content E:Error in sideload/package.zip (status 7)"
Here is what I did :
I downloaded the stock image from the OP and flashed it
Flashed the stock recovery in download mode
Rebooted
followed the steps to manually apply OTA where I placed t1.30.401.1 -> 1.80.401.1 OTA on the file on my external SD
rebooted to recovery
got to the recovery menu and apply update from SD
it starts the installation then stops after a minute with the mentioned error.
I looked at the thread [GUIDE] How to take OTA if you receive corrupt system message and applied the signed firmware 1.30.401.1-1.80.401.1 but I'm still getting the same error.
I'm sorry if this question has been answered before but I looked in the forum but never found an answer. I'm coming from a Sony phone and I'm finding the HTC stuff to be a little bit confusing.

Cannot upgrade system from LL

Hi,
I have a ZE55ML (Z00AD WW version) with stock android 5.0 (Build number: LRX21V.WW-ASUS-Z00A-2.15.40.13_20150506_....)
I want to unlock it and install LineageOS 14. But to do that, I understood that need first to upgrade my firmware to MM.
The problem is that I just cannot upgrade the system in any way:
In Settings/About - there is no "Software Update" entry
In Settings/About/Software Information - there is no "Check update" button
I have an app called "System update", but when I launch it it fails immediately, saying "Unfortunately, DMClient has stopped"
I tried following the manual install method described here https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1009748/ - but after I copy the zip to the root of internal storage, I do not get the "System Update File Detected" notification, so I cannot apply the update.
I did a full factory reset, but it did not help.
How do I update the system? (or unlock bootloader without it)
Thanks!
After much searching and trying, I found the winning tip here, in the comments: https://www.reddit.com/r/zenfone2/comments/3ta8yx/cant_update_tired_of_bloatware/
When you download the update, this is what you can try. Rename it to: MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip
Place it on your an SD card (not internal SD card), and boot into recovery: adb reboot recovery
The phone should recognize the update and flash it.

this (with an updated adb) did the magic. I updated the phone to v2.20 and afterwards to 4.20, and with the toolkit I could now unlock bootloader and install TWRP.
