Need Verizon Software Repair Assistant for Note 4 - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im on Lollipop 5.0.1 and tried to downgrade to Kit Kat with Odin so I could root my Note 4. Got softbricked saying to use the Verizon Software Repair Assistant to get my phone back on. Cant find any links or downloads referring to it and both Samsung Kies and Smart Watch say theyre not compatible. Anyone with any links or downloads, now is the PERFECT time to speak up..

Tried this?

Yeah, I been to that link before but the VZW website only has PDF files and no real 'download' button of any sort of files. I think to have it fixed that way, your phone must turn on first. And with it being soft-bricked, I cant fix it that way. I may just go into the store and have a rep hook it up to their system. I cant imagine it costing anything or having any sort of problem. Thanks anyway.

I'm on the same boat as the OP. Need a copy of the Verizon Software Repair Assistant for the Note 4. The download link above is for the S4. Not sure if it makes a difference, but it didn't work. I also tried the one that came with my Verizon S5...didn't work either.
For anyone who's got a Verizon Note 4, when you first plug in the phone to your PC via USB cable, it will prompt you to install it. If you can please zip up the contents of the entire folder and share, that'd be great! Thanks!

you have the same Note 4 as me. Can you send me the Verizon Software Repair Assistant? Could not find online any that worked.

Why don't you guys just use Smart Switch or Kies?

Yeah, Smart Switch should work fine if you use the "Emergency software recovery and initialization" option.

I too softbricked my phone trying to downgrade to KK with Odin.
I tried this zip, but it doesn't work. For those of you who are having this problem, the only solution I was able to come up with was to borrow my wife's Note 4, in Windows turn on Auto Play for USB devices, plug in the working phone, and then install the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant from the auto play menu.
After the Upgrade Assistant is installed unplug the good phone, run the Upgrade Assistant program from the icon in your System Tray, Click the Repair Assistant tab, power on your soft bricked phone to the error screen that tells you to use Verizon Software Repair Assistant and plug it to your computer. Follow the instructions in Repair Assistant. It took a few minutes for it to detect an identify my phone after I plugged it in, so be patient. I unplugged mine thinking it wasn't working right as my phone was detected.
As far as I can tell, there is no place to download the actual installer for this program. You have to install it from a working phone. (If only I had known, I would have installed this BEFORE I messed up my phone.)

[Q] SGH-T999 Won't connect to PC/MAC.

Hello, I received my T-Mobile 16GB Galaxy S III today and my intentions were to flash it right out of the box( I am no stranger to doing so) but I've seem to run into a few complications. I can't even begin my rooting process since it fails to connect to my PC( Windows XP Service Pack 3) or my iMac (Lion). (With multiple USBs during each attempt)
I've downloaded Kies re-installed drivers multiple time (on both platforms)
I've tried connecting via download mode on Odin/Heimdall.
Factory Resets on the device.
I've tried the Android File Transfer on Mac, no luck either.
I've tried to simply connect it to my PC through MTP/PTP. (This resulted in the closest effort it acknowledged my phone as "Digital Still Camera" and began to open a file) When I re-install the drivers it lists the phone and Samsung modem in the task bar, but nothing happens, I still cannot access either SD card.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.
I'm beginning to think the device may be defective myself.
Again, thank you.
jasonren29 said:
For Mac, connect your device through usb cable. Pull down the notification bar and select PTP as connection. Fire up the Android file transfer app, you should be good.
For PC, download the tool kit from development Page, and select appropriate device, then select 1 to install device driver. Reinstall even if you have the driver already. After installation, connect your phone and select MTP. Let the pc update the driver settings, etc. Wait for a minute or two, open my computer and you should be able to transfer files now.
Let me know if you experience any issues afterward

I tried the Mac way again made sure ptp was checked, still received a "cannot connect to device" error. Trying the toolkit way on PC now.
I had the same problem with my PC, download the toolkit and install the drivers. Thats what worked for me.

Yeah, I just did that, the serial numbers never appeared on the toolkit program, so I assume it did not work. I'll give it another try though.
Dont worry, you dont even have to connect the phone to install the drivers. Just re-run the toolkit and install the drivers.

Yeah, I did. I just keep getting "New Hardware Found" messages and that's it. I'll re-install the drivers a third time, after this attempt I have no idea what to do.
Well try rebooting both the phone and your computer. If you still cant get to work then the only real fix would be to exchange the unit. I hope it works and you dont have to exchange it. I hate going thru that hassle.
If you ordered from T-Mo directly call them up and speak to the loyalty department and have them send you another unit with the return kit. Make sure to tell them you use your phone for bussines and you need to have a phone. Thats how I have done my exchanges while still having a phone to play with until the new one arrives. Good luck bro.

Yeah, I think I will have to try that, unfortunately. Haha, kind of spent my whole day trying to fix is, bit of a bummer to be honest. Thanks for the luck.

[Help] Another Note 4 Soft Bricked

Hello,
I know you're probably thinking, "omg another note bricked thread". Yes, but I spent many hours of research and couldn't find a thread with my exact problem.
A little background:
I rooted my phone and everything was fine and dandy. I let a friend borrow my phone for a minute and they decided that it would be funny to uninstall google play. I installed the apk from online and had nothing but problems. The app would crash as soon as i started downloading anything. I looked into solutions and did everything from editing the host file to wiping the caches. Nada. The "solutions" just caused other errors. I decided to wipe and reinstall from my backup.
I realized after that because Google Play is a system file, my restore was useless. I decided to wipe everything and reflash the stock firmware with Odin. I downloaded the right one for the verizon model on 5.1.1. Odin sent the file to the device. Just before finishing there was an error and the phone rebooted anyway.
Upon booting the phone now lacked an OS and gave the "use the verizon repair assistant to reinstall the operating system" message. I tried the software (from a friends s5) on 3 different computers and it wouldn't work on any.
I figured, no problem, I will just reflash to stock with Odin again. Only this time my computer no longer recognizes the phone when I put it into download mode. Ive installed and reinstalled the drivers, changed the order of connecting the cables, and when the phone is booted. Nothing works.
The phone can only boot regularly (but lacks an OS) or go to download mode. Recovery doesn't work. Any ideas? Help would greatly be appreciated as the nearest phone repair center is close to 40 miles away
Tl;dr
Phone doesnt have an OS, can boot to download mode, but isn't recognized by computer. The basic troubleshooting steps haven't worked.
Hi urban.. I'm not to technical, but was reading your post. I hit a little confused... Your using the s5 Verizon recovery, not Odin image right
Also try uninstalling the Windows drivers and reinstall after you connect to computer

I tried the verizon recovery for the S5 (I don't have it for the note) and the software wouldn't load. Originally I reflashed the phone with an Odin image but now Odin doesn't recognize the phone.
Yup, I've tried that many times on different computers. Thanks though.

Had a similar experience myself. I also tried using the Verizon update/repair assistant for another device and it did not work. I ultimately ended up borrowing a Note 4, installing the upgrade/repair assitant from that phone onto my pc (enable USB autoplay, then choose to install the software that runs when you connect the phone). The software installed from another Note4 was able to repair my phone without issue.

Interesting. Was your computer unable to recognize the phone as well? How did you borrow another Note 4? I have scoured the internet and haven't been able to find the software online. Would you be able to PM it to me? I would greatly appreciate it as I do not have immediate access to another Note.
ODIN can be finicky with USB cables and ports. Try switching cables and make sure that you're on a USB port that comes straight from the PC and not a hub.
Try uninstalling the Samsung USB driver, reboot the computer then reinstall.
I'm not sure why you were using S5 software when Note 4 is so readily available. I'm not sure that I can recommend using the Marshmallow firmware yet in ODIN. I would use the 5.1.1 version and do the full firmware flash.
what i've done.
Hello Urban415, earlier today my phone decided to take a dump as well gave me that same message with the yellow triangle, i had flashed a bad image (file name : N910VVRU2BPA1_StockRestore.tar.md5) which then gave me that problem.
//-=-=
I went onto Sam Mobile's site, created an account(its free! to download the firmware, it's needed.)
I had to download N910VVRU2BOG5 - 5.0.1 (it took me 2 hours to DL off their site :\ due to free account... but whatevs)
In order to bring my phone back to life also the version of Odin i used was 3.10.6..
My phone was rooted as well and was using N910VVRU2BPA1 - 5.1.1
//-=-=
Hope this helps ! My note 4 Model # : Sm-n910v, bought refurb off ebay.
P.S. Excuse my grammar, punctuation, etc, etc. Also! running Windows 7 x64 and Verizon's assistant didn't work for me either. not even on my windows 8.1 laptop =x!

Glad that you got your device to work. Thanks for the information about the Verizon assistant software. Guess it's not just me.
My problem isn't the firmware and finding it online. My problem is that my computer now refuses to recognize the phone as a usb device. I have tried the usual recommended troubleshooting steps to no avail. Did you have this problem?
I'm reaching about as far as I can go, but: did you try to do a factory reset in recovery? I had that work in freeing up a connection issue in ADB once.
@Urban415 I was googling and found one guy who had a similar issue as you... It was for an older device. But what he did was uninstalled the assistant. Then plugged in his phone and reinstalled the software and it installed the correct drivers... Also I'm not to android savvy, but just a thought. If your using the s5 assistant wouldn't it have to download a note 4 image for it to recognize it. Maybe that's why it's not working. Because it doesn't have the note 4 drivers and image??? Just a thought

Hey, sorry it took so long to get back.
As I recall my phone was not visible to ADB or Kies while it was displaying the Verizon Repair Assistant screen erreor screen. I suspect that in that state, only the Repair Assistant is able to talk to the phone.
I ended up waiting for my wife to get home (she has the same phone as me) and borrowing her phone to install the assistant software. The software recognized my phone, though it took a minute or two, even though Kies couldn't see it. The assistant downloaded the firmware and flashed it. Phone good as new.

similar thing happened to me but on my 2013 nexus 7. I had to download and use "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" and manually (using Commands within windows command-line-interface) restore my device while it was in "fastboot mode". prior to that tried using "WUGsNexus Root ToolKit " which help instruct the user; with screenshots on how to uninstall drivers that might conflict with one another with the use of another program named "USBDeview". that didn't work for me unfortunately . but for i cannot for sure say if its a "Maybe my windows need a refresh/clean slate" or I missed a step.
Thank you to everyone that helped me in this thread. After trying several new cables, uninstalling and re-installing drivers, rebooting, and playing around with software compatibility software, my problem has been solved.
I have now reflashing stock firmware, rooted, and backed up the phone. Cheers!

try to download the firmware from http://samfirm.net/threads/official-rom-full-galaxy-note-7-sm-n930f-n930fxxu1apg7-xxv-23-07-2016.98/ and try to flash via odin.
Never ever try to flash anything till the time there is no evidence of success.
I tried that, but the problem is that I always get this error in Odin when trying to flash...
Did you check OEM unlock before you flash as per the instructions? not doing so will result in a boot loop.
Try different cable and USB port. I had trouble with both that had me running in circles.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Yes, I did OEM unlock before the flash.
Different cable and USB port makes no difference...
Usually when I have issues I try to uninstall all drivers related to phones and only install the one I need. Then after a restart and forcing the phone into Odin I'm able to flash without issues.
It might be failing because of a Partition size error. Have you tried the Samfirm Tool to download a firmware from your region?
Have you tried Emergency Device Recovery from SmartSwitch PC ?
Also, I'm doubtful whether this is a new trick up from Samsung's sleeve. This Phone is still new, so it's quite a learning process. Maybe Samsung has implemented something to block these unofficial flash attempts. However I thank you taking the risk and trying the recovery first.
Can you help me, where I can get this?

I really have no luck here...
Any idea?
Googled already, but did not really find anything besides reinstalling...
I dont think theres a fix for this issue yet. There's also no subtantiated literature in the larger cummunity pertaining to rooting the Note 7.
I am guessing this is an additional precaution taken by Samsung therefore the rooting process needs a very specific set of steps in order to circumnavigate the systems Sammy has put in place. The thread itself says WIP, so I applaud you for your courage.
Nonetheless my suggestion is to instead of waiting for an answer which no one can provide, go to Sammy and bull**** to them that u plugged in the computer and it became a brick.
Theres is no possible senario whereby the internet can help you because we know next to nothing about Note 7.
I sincerely hope that you can come out of the situation with a working Note 7 in your hands whilst not burning a hole in your wallet due to the repairs. God-speed my friend, God-speed.

This seems to be an issue in your drivers, Please uninstall all samsung related and flash box related (if exists) in your PC and try installing it again.
Alternatively, you can just walk into a Samsung Care store and get it done while you wait.
I did that already... No luck. I will try on a different pm next.
Bill sad to see this happened to you
I am exactly coming for the same forum and was following the same steps thought u were, but u took one more step forward and flashed the vitanamese firmware, your phone just messed up there. Was actually about to do the same thing but then read your comments. My phone starts but with errors and has battery drainage , i havent lost anything as it is still virgin and havent transfered anything to it yet. Will wait probably 4 to 5 days more for the official firmwares to release and fire it in.
Sorry to say but u had become the test subject...

I just was in the Samsung Care Center in Singapore with my bricked phone.
After 1 hour waiting time, a Samsung guy explained me, that they cannot do anything about it, because they don't have parts ? for this phone in Singapore because it was not launched yet and also there is no international warranty on it.
He had no idea about any software recovery or anything and suggested to get back to Dubai, where I got the phone from.
Really a bad Customerservice experience.
I also want to thank all of you for your great help and suggestions!
I think I will send the phone back to the store in Dubai now.
Well tht will be a good choice
But if u give it three more days and wait for the official firmwares to release would save you some time.
I am still following up with it.

Same here in (Dubai) Mate, They don't even have the parts, or Tools to open the device up. If you remember me, I screwed up my Note 7 a week back, Just after two days from launch, and I still didn't receive it. They are still unable to sort it out.
I'm sure when a proper firmware for XSG (Dubai - Same as your device) and a proper ODIN is released to flash the Note 7, this will be a piece of a cake. Just hope for the best, As just like you - I too took a leap of faith and did something stupid.
Anyway, Wishing you luck !
I am not sure if this will help....
What happens when you try a older version of Odin?
Its worked for me in the past, with my s6 edge.

you must firstly downgrade to 5.1.1 OI2, the otg is not the only way to bypass configuration screen, you can search in youtube, you can also use SideSync, Or the HTTP Methode (youtube)
All that is to activate Debugging Mode In Setting, Than use the adb with some trick

Well, I did enable the USB Debug mode, put the NOTE 4 on download mode and opened ODIN with the proper files to go back to 5.1.1 OI2, after that, I went back to 5.1.1 OI2 then the same message appeared "Samsung account, This device is locked because of an abnormal factory reset. Sign in to the Samsung account that you have already signed in to on this device that confirms that belongs to you." I've watched several videos for 3 days now and tried the methods shown with no luck, I've tried the SideSync, OTG, Modem, Bluetooth, etc. that is getting me going to a dead end. Also there's no support from Samsung nor AT&T since I'm on Cricket Wireless. Is there any way not patched by Samsung that I can use to get back my Note 4? Everything was good until I decided to update to MM and now I'm without phone :/
Never mind, I found a 100% working solution that got my Note 4 SM-N910A back to a working condition as if I just got it from the store. Anyways thanks mate!
A quick update, like I said, I got my phone back and also updated to 6.0.1 MM and has been working really great!

Sure, I can. Do you have your Note 4 locked? or what's the problem with your phone?

Question Can't use OTA update or Smart Switch - fail at 25%

Hi! I got a Samsung Galaxy A52s 5g that i bought from a store as second hand. They give a 14 days waranty but I don't really have the time to send the phone to service.
My problem is this... The phone right now has android 12 one ui 4.0 with Android security patch level from march 1, 2022. I want to upgrade it to android 13, but everytime I try thru OTA it fails at 25% and comes back to original saying Failed to install update, contact a samsung service center. Or something similar.
I found on the web that updating thru Samsung Smart Switch should work, but for me it doesn't. It downloads 7.3 gb of updates, after that phone enters download mode and I get after some time a NOTICE on the computer that "failed to recognize software update mode" and instructs me to reboot device and try again. I even enabled USB debug mode and I get the same NOTICE on the computer. And after that I reboot phone from downloading mode and everything is back to original.
The phone was charged 50%+ everytime i tried, also I got enough rom memory, I checked. Changed usb cable to another USB on the laptop and I get the same result from Smart Switch.
Phone model is SM-A528B/DS. I will provide more info if needed.
What I can do to succesfully update the software on my A52s 5g? I searched on the web to no result to my Smart Switch error. Also I've seen that are alot of cases where thru OTA the phone fails at 25%, but either they succesfully updated thru Smart Switch or no response.
I want to try installing the official rom from sammobile but I really don't know what firmware I should pick.
Thank you in advance!

Does it matter from what carrier did the phone come from? The baseband is different from the file that you posted. Or doesn't matter? Anyway, downloaded it, now i'm looking for a tutorial on how to flash the rom. Thanks!

Can I use update from SD card from recovery mode? It's easier i guess.
I just flashed the rom you provided. Hurray! It works just fine with odin. If anybody got the same problem with their phone, flashing with odin does a great job!
God bless you Unreal_Hawkz!
