Hi folks,
Brand new D851 here! I want to get it fully updated to 20G before going ROM happy. I'm aware of the 20G flashable ZIP (here) but figured I'd just get it to download. The phone (new, from Amazon, unlocked) came with kitkat. I skipped the setup process and have no SIM in it; once I connected it to wireless it promptly downloaded and installed 20E. But there it sits. It doesn't seem to understand 20G should be waiting. Repeated checks for updates don't goose it along.
Is there some trick to this?
I will probably quickly exit stock, and then set up maybe Blisspop or something similar for 5.1.1, configuring for AT&T (I'm on ATT and bought the D851 due to unlocked bootloader).
I'm not shy flashing the zip I referenced above, just figured it might be better to update via the normal route if possible.
Thanks in advance!

Select the "Software Update LG Mobile" tab on the right.
Make sure you have the proper USB drivers installed.
The page states that the latest is 20E but I just flashed to do a trade-in and it was 20G.
Thanks. I will try it tonight.

Thanks again @mitbit2k3 . I went to the link you suggested and got the download tool; it updated my phone successfully after I installed the driver. There was a bit of foolishness about telling the device to do PC software but eventually got it connected. All is well. Upgrade only took ~10-15 minutes to download and install once started.

I think I just got the OTA notification for 20G. Were you still able to root and everything afterwards?

Thanks! Is this a 5.1.1 update? Or just maintenance?
Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk
Just maintenance. Stagefright i think. It isn't clear that we will get a 5.1.1 release. May go straight to marshmallow. A shame because im not sure i want marshmallow.

nope; stock
My phone downloading the update but I was rooted, so apparently it failed to verify and the installation was aborted.
Stock and still nothing (Denver, Sprint 32Gb S3)
Updated: 2.6Mb update, had to force it, wasn't available at 1030am but at 1131am it was (MST)
Says security updates, however, if the baseband is updated, doesn't this mean the radio is being updated?
I got the same installation aborted message but then when I check if the system is up to date it says it is.
16gb on the sprint network...received the update around 1pm est
I just got the notice, its a few megs but unable to install since im rooted. it tries to do it through their stock recovery so it has issues with cmw lol
I want to know if root still will work after the update.... if so I will UN root then reroot

I think he is too conditioned on locked bootloaders after an OTA. Lol
I managed to grab the update from my cache partition. At any rate i'm about to unroot and apply it then reroot, grab a nandroid and update my upcoming ROM with it.
Mine went to install and it froze at cwm but now my data keeps cutting off. Some Sprint logging on issue pops up. Even with nandroid restore back.

I'm not certain if it works for the 2e but in the stickies/index http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=61687944 there is a one click root method. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try it here in about an hour and see if it works. Can it cause a brick or boot loop if its incompatible or will it just say it failed to root with no harm to my phone?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I'm not certain as I know very little about the 2E variant of the phone so its still doing it at ur own risk.
Rooting compared to everything else such as bootloader unlocking or xposed installation is fairly safe in comparison though. All you essentially are doing though is adding a few files and sideloading SuperSU as far as I'm aware.

I can't seem to get the drivers insatlled.
I downloaded the zip from Asus website, but it's not an .exe file, so I'm stumped on how to install the drivers.
When I launch that root method, it says ADB Server out of date, killing...Daemon started successfully but it doesn't go any further than that.
I'm on Windows 10.
For the drivers, I believe I have the default Google ones installed and that worked fine for me. Don't remember where I got the tutorial from or how I did it anymore.
As for the ADB server try this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979.

That's the one I'm using, and that's when it said the ADB server was out of date, and then it says Daemon started on port 5047...Daemon started successfully...
and then it doesn't do anything after that. There's gotta be something missing.
Now this is what I'm getting

Nevermind!
I got it to work! Root achieved.
So right now I'm on 10B, rooted with xPosed installed. However, I saw that the 12A update included touch improvements, and my touchscreen has been giving me issues for a while now.
Is there anywhere I could find a guide on how to update to 12A from 10B and keep root and xPosed? Or would anyone be willing to create a guide? Thanks!!
From my understanding, that is the magic question. Updating to 12a w/o the bootloader. If 12a root image flashed without 12a OTA first, result is a image mismatch. No 12a KDZ file yet.
Thats what you would need from 10b.
Back in the holding pattern.
Wait a little longer my friend. There's supposed to be a bootloader unlock coming for users on 10b still.

:highfive::fingers-crossed: If there is, that would be absolutely fantastic.. I guess I'll hold out a bit longer haha. Are there any "fixes" for the touchscreen issues right now then?
I'd like to see someone rooted on 12a post their build.prop. There were some edits before that helped the touchscreen. Maybe diffing the latest build.prop changes might help the rest of us out.

Yes there is indeed a new bootloader unlock coming out for users on 10b. It would be in your best interest to hold out until it's released and then unlock your bootloader and just flash a custom ROM when they become available.

Yeah, I realize that's pretty much one of the rules, but I'd think that if they're saying there is definitely a bootloader unlock coming soon, I'd want to know where they got that from, right?

You can use touch screen booster and it will help to decrease touch issues drastically...
Untill we get the bootloader unlocked this is really helpful. [emoji12]

Hello,
I am attempting to flash my Sony Xperia M phone, to downgrade it from 4.3 to 4.1 (in order to install a custom ROM).
I have downloaded two versions of the 4.1 OS, but neither appear to work.
The problem is, the progress bar indicating how far along the Flashing process is, is stuck at one point forever.
As I understand, it should take only a matter of minutes, but I've left it going for hours at a time, but it never completes.
There seems to be something wrong with the software, or the OS I've downloaded, or the phone itself. I have no idea.
If you are able to suggest ways around this problem, that would be appreciated.
Here's a screenshot and a WebM of the Flashing process.

As you can see here in the Service Menu, the Rooting Status displays that the Bootloader cannot' be unlocked.
I have read elsewhere online that previous versions of Android on Xperia M allow for this. This is why I wish to downgrade.
I see my friend, I'm afraid even if you upgrade you'll get a "no" but you can always try I hope I'm wrong, unfortunately I never faced this problem, I don't know how to help, sorry man , try using a newer version of flashtool or even older, I don't know how drivers work on Mac but try reinstalling them, whatever could help you..

Flashtool for OSX isn't working well . Fastboot is working , flashing is not working with me (OSX El CAptain)
I'm running flashtool on a Linux pc or on My Mac with virtual box and windows.
Has anybody found a solution to this problem?
I would like to contact the developer and report the issue, but can't find the info.
Is there an alternative way to flash Xperia phones on a Mac?
So last week my note started to receive the networksystemprovider error and the only way I can get it to stop popping up every 5 seconds is to freeze it, but then I cannot receive any text. So I was hoping to just update the phone but it has been so long since I did anything to it I am very confused on how.

What are you currently running? Stock rooted OG5 with initial release of Beastmode?
You should remove ItsOn if running custom kernel- unless you know how to remove it. I've seen ItsOn try to repeatedly to activate itself- but can't with custom kernel. It prompts or forces reboots with no end after the user factory resets in recovery when leaving fragments of ItsOn in internal memory.
I don't know what you want to do but there's many choices:
If you're looking for customization on lollipop, checkout Moar 2.1b One day marshmallow will have a ported ROM of this caliber or better.
If you're looking for stability and maybe something a bit faster, try a marshmallow custom ROM.
Just a couple of examples. Find a ROM and follow the OP install instructions closely. That most likely means using the stock tar flash in Odin to update to suggested update and turning off automatic updates before the update nag starts. But don't go back any farther than OG5 with Odin; the bootloader won't allow the older stock tars to flash.
I was actually to go to stock marshmallow but with root like I have know. I have never been really into trying all the different roms I just want to have root for the Hotspot. I tried to look through the thread but I just get more confused.

Which thread is confusing? Hotspot, update and root (aka stock tar thread in general forum) or custom ROM threads?
Which hotspot method are you using or prefer? I believe the non root method requires a do over on each boot. Don't use much at all but I prefer permanent myself for the other benefits custom services.jar provides.
That network error is caused by ItsOn not being fully removed and the custom kernel not supporting it. If you use stock kernel, you could leave ItsOn intact but some consider it a privacy and battery liability: unneeded bloat and potentially problematic.
