Anyone else notice the USB port is tight? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got the 5X today and the power cord clicks in real nice, but it's really hard to pull out. I mean like it's a struggle to remove it.
Just wondering if I'm the only one...

Mines the same, especially with a non Google USB C cable

Same here. I was afraid I was gonna damage my phone. I had the issue with the old N5 although it wasn't as bad.

Yeah, I was a little hesitant when I first plugged it in. Needed more force than I was comfortable with and unplugging it too

It only seems bad when removing the cable, I need to grab myself a USB A to C cable now to root

I'm a little bummed that I can't pull the cable out with one hand anymore, but it's a welcome departure from my experience with a lot of aging microUSB cables where they fall out on their own.

Same here. When I insert the cable it feels okay, though theres a 'bump'. But it gets really stucked when i tried to pull it out. For one moment i thought theres a release button or sth.

Mine goes in and comes out easily

My phone seems to have this "issue" too. It offers up a lot of resistance when plugging in and unplugging the cable. I have also noticed the same thing with the headphone port. Other than that I am pretty happy so far. I have only had it for a day and a half though. I read some bad reports on battery life but it seems pretty good to me so far. I usually notice an increase after a few charge cycles ( after a week or so) so if it gets even better I will be pretty pleased with it. I also saw some videos showing really slow boot times and app launching etc. but I have found my experience to be MUCH quicker in every regard. I am assuming the testing they carried out was on a beta or earlier build of M. I cant link to the video on here but you can find if you search for Nexus 5x and 6p speed test. Also the site with the reports of bad battery life was the review on digital trends.
What has your experience been of battery life and general speed/ responsiveness of the UI?

Battery seems like an improvement over the N5 but too early to tell by how much, responsiveness is good though I've noticed some occasional issues with scrolling. Any performance regression compared to the N5 could probably be related to the forced (non-hardware accelerated) encryption.
My USB goes in nicely but is tough to pull out.

Mines would go in, but I couldn't do it anymore so I had to pull out.

Isn't a tight fit desirable? :good:
Yeah, its a bit scary how hard I have to pull to get it out.
With both the OEM charger and the USB A to C cable being sold from the Google Store.

I think the "tight" fit has more to do with the design of USB Type-C and not really an issue with your phones.
I haven't personally used the USB connection on a 5X. However, my employer recently gave me an iPhone 6S, which has USB Type-C as well (Don't worry, I still use my Nexus 6 for personal use. ). With the iPhone, I immediately noticed that the connection to the phone was very tight and requires extra force to get in and out of the phone. You get used to it after a little while and after a few weeks of use I can say that I definitely prefer the new connection over the old older connection on my Nexus 6 and Nexus 7.
So, my suggestion is to not over think this as an issue. It's just a tighter fit, plain and simple. You'll get used to it.

You lucky people... my Nexus 5X does not exist yet, but my 9... It's so loose...

Well.... s***.

Oh yeah, thus mutha is a steel trap. I'm hoping it loosens a little with time.

Only after a few days here, mine seems to let go of the plug a little easier. I don't feel like I'm going to rip the charging port out anymore.

[SOLVED] Good external battery charger?

I'm looking for an external battery charger since I bought a couple extra batteries for my phone.
anyone have experience with a certain charger? Obviously I don't want something that will damage my battery but nothing that will break the bank either.

Yeah, sorry I probably should have been more specific but I dont know the exact name for them. haha
It's like the dock "travel" charger for just the battery, not the battery connected to the phone.
I havent been able to find something decent (crappy charging, made in china).
Ok a little update for those interested.
I ended up buying some cheap (REALLY cheap) charger off ebay not expecting too much but just experimenting.
The charger itself looks something like this:

The 2 metal prongs connect to + and -; the charger is able to read which is the + and which is the - no matter how you set the battery in there. The bottom part that pushes the battery toward the prong is extendable or you can flip it 180 if you have a really small battery.
-Flashing red and blue light means charging
-Dull red light while plugged in means fully charged
-Dull red light while not plugged in but with battery set up means the pins are set up correctly on the terminals
NOTE: do not take batter off/put battery on while the charger is plugged in. It can ruin the battery.
The exact one i bought:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/270908124203?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
(no problems with the seller, they actually sent me a few free ones due to a misunderstanding)
Now for the review and my experience.
Pros:
-Fits any battery, interchangeability of pins (differentiating + and -) means you can fit any battery really
-Has a side USB port so you can charge a battery and plug in your USB cord to the phone and charge it at the same time
-Voltage input is 110-220V so (with an adapter) you can theoretically (will test this summer) plug this charge straight into an european plug or north american plug.
-No problems so far with over charging; Charger stops charging the battery when it is full
-Has a light to tell you when the battery is done charging and when you have the pins connected correctly to the battery
-Compact; Small and plug folds up into unit.
-Charges a fully dead battery quickly.
Cons:
-No instructions when I first received this product (i know what you're thinking, how hard could it be to just charge a battery but I was reluctant to rely on the self detecting terminal feature)
-While charging, the light on the unit (the one i posted/bough) flashes red and blue like cop lights and is very bright so it might be a problem if you are plugging it in overnight in a bedroom. Also this is a normal function of the charger but i thought it was malfunctioning so they sent a new unit but then figured out its normal.
-Looks cheap
-Dont know how long it will last for (really cheap so buying another one isnt a problem)
-Noticed that after i pull a battery off the charger and use it the phone states it is at 99% (undercharged) although if i try to bump charge a fully charged battery it wont charge more. This could be a problem with my battery/phone/etc.
-Nothing else really
So final verdict on this product:
Its a great, affordable charger; works great if you are traveling and need to charge an extra battery. Will fit the Incredible 2 extended batteries and technically virtually any battery. Its pretty easy to use once you know what the color lights mean and how to set a battery up.

Vinsic 5-Ports 40W charger REVIEW

Hey guys so I received this along with a 4.8amp dual port USB car charger. I must say the quality is exceptional. The fact that this is a new up and coming company is really motivating. Hopefully all their products follow suit. Their powerbank 20000mah is made from an aluminum frame so it's a quality build as well. Anyways on to the review!
Upon opening the box from Amazon I noticed the two items came packaged really nice. I could compare it to anker in the packaging but Vinsic is just more visually appealing. I'm a big fan of the blue.

It comes with a power adapter cable for the charger. I'm not used to having to connect one to the charger. I've enjoy having the plug built in to the charger itself. I'm just spoiled by travel chargers I guess. It's not a huge difference but for the power it delivers it is most definitely worth the change.
The 5 port charger itself has a nice weight to it. It is polished smooth white. It has a very nice feel to it. Doesn't feel cheap at all. Very sturdy feel to it. On the bottom it has 4 rubber feet. There's 1 in each corner for it to have maximum grip on whatever surface you place it on.
The size isn't that much bigger than a Galaxy S2. Here they are side by side. My trusty S2 on the left of course.
Here's some battery stats. Looks like it's charging at the maximum rate for the S2. I doubt it's this exact amount but it is charging beyond its capabilities. The battery is not heating up at all and I've ran it from completely dead to 75 so far. I'll post some ampere pictures from my Nexus 5 as soon as I can run it down a bit more. My Nexus 5 is at 75 right now.
Overall for the money and quality of the product i'd highly recommend it to anyone. This is my favorite at home charger now. The anker sits in my gym bag waiting to travel lol ?.
Hope you guys enjoyed the review. Any questions feel free to ask. These models were sent to me by vinsic but the review was unbiased.

this is the 3rd brand of mutiport chargers ive purchased and all have been junk. this on in particular gave me unpredictability issues from day one. 1 port would charge my ph and others wouldn't. 1 would charge my tablet and others wouldn't. bought it for the kids to use to charge multiple devices at once in one location and has not been able to do as it is promised, after about 2 weeks it stopped working completely. I tested the main power cord with my multimeter that wasn't the prob. i tested each output port and got no reading on any of them. i was tempted to crack the case and test further but then I wouldn't be able to return it.
If any one has any advice on a good multiport charger id love to hear about it..

TronSmart Titan 90W charging station

Hey guys, Febby here, I'm here to post a review about the TronSmart Titan charging station 90W (5 quick charge 2.0 ports with VoltIQ).
Amazon market place link:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B017OLP8UE
So where shall we begin? Let's start with this fun break down of what I'll be reviewing.
A) Packaging, because who doesn't love unboxing products?!
B) Build Quality, because umm we got to make sure its not too heavy but also not Lego made!
C) products specs VS putting it to the test with some of my devices in real life usage.
D) Likes and dislikes about the product!
A. When got it in the mail I was very surprised to find out it came neatly packed in a carton box and not just some cheap bag, you know those cheap USPS parcel bags? [emoji14]

Okay, so I don't really care about the box it came delivered in to be honest but once I opened up the box I was surprised with a fancy box; something I'd expect from a quality OEM like Samsung or such. I'll have a pictures below to see what I mean.
Upon ripping apart the box open and pulling out the TranSmart titan charging station it does once again come neatly packaged as a reputable company should! So I took it all out and read the fun stuff like the welcome guide and took several unboxing pictures to share with you all.
To summarize the unboxing it comes neatly packaged as a top end product should. In my package I received the following items:
* TranSmart Titan Charging station
* AC power cord
* Welcome guide/Technical support warranty card
10 points to TranSmart on packaging their Titan charging station. Did I mention that they're going green? It comes in a recyclable box and recyclable wrappers! Go green!
B. Here comes the fun stuff regarding the build quality of the Titan! Let's find out if its truly a titan... Battlefield time!
I took the Titan and dropped it a couple of times shortly after playing the game titan fall due to game rage.. Just kidding. The product had good texture to it, not slippery at all. The Titan itself is fairly small in my opinion. I was able to hold it in my hand so I'd myself have nothing to compare about regarding the built quality unless if I wish It came with a longer AC power cord.
I did notice that this product does come with a built in "On and off switch" which I found very useful as its important to not waste resources and of course extra bills! I'm not sure if you guys would consider this part of the build quality but to me it is a very important part of the build. I'm that type of guy who switches his power surges to off when I leave the house.
C. The product is marketed to delivery the specs below but yet we all know its not always true.
Specifications*
Input: 100-240V (Max)*
Output: 5V/2.4A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A (Max)*
Total power:90W*
Well me being the techy guy I am went and grabbed my Samsung Galaxy note 3, LG G Vista, Nexus 6, and Ipad 2 to put the charging station to the test. I gathered my USB cables and plugged them all into the USB ports and the device itself to let the test begin since they were all discharged!
Off the bat noticed my note 3 firmly charging at its full speed supported, and my LG vista as well. Now do note that those devices do not support QC 2.0 but thankfully VOLTIQ takes cares of making sure my devices are charging at its optimal speed. My ipad 2 on the other hand did run into issues charging but I later found out cable was at fault as it was a bit faulty but even with the new cable It did charge a bit slow so I'll need to research a bit regarding the ipad 2 because my mothers Phone 5c did charge fairly quick.
I lastly plugged in my Nexus 6 to take advantage of the quick charge 2.0 benefit because in today's modern phones who doesn't love to charge their phones quickly? I left my Nexus 6 charging with the other devices for 2 hours. Upon coming back I found all devices fully charged to my surprise as I was a bit skeptical at first that I would come back to a hot AC cord, hot Titan station, and maybe hot devices. Thankfully I didn't and it didn't appear to make an annoying buzzing sound that other QC 2.0 products suffer from.
I'd say so far that it has reached my expectations as being able to charge all those devices without breaking a sweat is pretty sweet. Below are a few pictures of my devices charging via the station.
D. Let's talk about the cons and pros.... Keep in mind this one of the few charging stations I've ever had so I'm being as honest as possible.
I don't have many cons to add to this list to be honest. One of the few things I disliked was a simple fix! A short AC power cord but that can be replaced and fix very easily so I said a very minimal con.
I have quite a bit of pros though! In my house everyone is usually trying to steal my chargers to put their devices to charge. Even my friends that come over so I figured I'll set this up in the living room table so that anyone who wants to charge their devices can simply plug and charge. The advantage of having 5 quick charge ports with voltIQ means every will benefit without my wires and power adapters going missing.
Overall, TronSmart definitely deserves good props regarding the Titan! They are promoting the importance of going green by letting you it is all recyclable packaging is also good so please recycle! also, do remember if you buy from them that they seem to offer a great warranty so I'll be attaching a friendly warranty card reminder so do buy it and try it with confidence knowing you'll be backed by a great warranty.
I'm open to any questions you got regarding the product so feel free to ask and this is one of my first reviews so let me know what you thought.

Got my Cam Module in...

Here are my thoughts on the LG Cam Plus Module:
I got the only module that my local T-Mobile store got in. I was lucky that one of the reps called me before she even put it in stock and held it for me. Awesome service right there!!!
FEEL
So far, I really like the extra heft. For those of you who remember the Verizon HTC Thunderbolt, it feels a little like the extra battery did but at the bottom and not the middle. It's a great feeling. I have fairly large hands from bodybuilding and it is a bit awkward thus far to turn the phone over to use the module. But, I think I'll get used to that quickly. Really big hands people will likely want to steer away from the module as it won't benefit them much.
The dial isn't as nice as I would like. I was hoping it would have some feedback like a traditional camera dial does, but it doesn't. Not a big deal, but I did notice it nonetheless. It is a major improvement over not having the module, though!
LOOK
It looks okay... I wish the colors were more coordinated. The gold and silver combo don't look very good in my opinion. Black and silver and then silver and silver would be good. So, I really wish they made the module in black only.
It is all plastic from what I can tell, which I don't like whatsoever. But, for plastic, it does have a good feel. I will say that.
BATTERY
This is where I have a major concern. If you look at the battery specs, it only qualifies for Quick Charge 2.0 for input and output. It is only 5v/9v for input and only 5v for output. I'll be able to confirm shortly whether or not my phone says it's quick charging or not with the module attached. I did notice earlier while using the module that while charging the phone, it heated up a bit like QC 2.0 not 3.0, for whatever that's worth.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
So far, I'm glad I got it. I'm on many estimates for contracts throughout the day and I can see how it will make things easier to take pictures. A lack of a case does concern me, but I guess that's what insurance is for lol (as I found out with my V10).
The extra battery will come in handy I'm sure as I'm going thru juice quite a bit. I use my phone heavily. I have two numbers going to my phone for calls and texts (gv). I use my phone at least for 4 hours a day for calls to give you an idea. I'll report back on the extended battery life and what I can determine as to the charging current with the module battery. I'm not sure how much of a definitive answer I can find without root since I don't think ampere will work without root. I've attached a bunch of pictures for you guys. Let me know if you have any questions I can try to answer.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the speaker seems to be better than the stock module. I didn't notice any crackling at higher volumes as I did with the stock module.
Edit 2: I can confirm that the module does NOT quick charge your phone. When a quick charger is plugged into the pack, I can confirm that the phone will quick charge but the module itself does not seem to quick charge judging from the fact that it took about an hour and a half to go from 0-Full while plugged into a QC 2.0 charger by itself. I have attached a picture of the phone charging from the module in Ampere.

Edit 3: I've noticed during my workout that the battery stops charging after around 15 minutes. Each time I have to turn the module back on... Very weird. Hopefully LG will change this in the future.

Could you use this with the Spigen Style Armor case? I would think so since the case separates at the chin for easy battery removal.

This Australian article suggests the Cam Plus is only designed to charge the main battery when you're using the camera...maybe that explains your 15 min cutoff?
This module could've been so great with a clicky, multifunction wheel and a proper extended battery. Hope a custom kernel can fix it!

wrong. you can charge the phone without going into the camera app just by simply pressing the power button of the module once.
@PENKO956 OK. Once for a full charge or once every 15 minutes? Also isn't the power button on the Cam Plus designed to launch the camera? Or is that another button...?

HTC 10/USB-C Dock

Having had a wireless charging phone for the past 4 years, I feel that moving to a phone without one will be a bit of a pain. Since the HTC 10 doesn't have wireless charging, I'm looking for a dock to put bedside that will -hopefully- allow me to easily pop it on for charge overnight, etc.
Has anyone come across anything good? Bonus points if it also supports QC3.0

But I'm personally going to wait for the docks that are made for the HTC 10, you know a hole on the bottom for the woofer speaker and so on
Neither have I ever liked these universal docks, just seems so flimsy and I aim to keep the USB port on my phones undamaged as long as I possibly can.
An example of a phone+dock combination I absolutely loved, which would be the original Note with Samsung's own Desktop Dock.

It's just so nice to have accessories that fit your device like a glove. I could easily place that phone on the dock without even looking and with one hand. And take it off with just one hand, of course I had to use my third finger to slightly push against the dock while grabbing the phone with my thumb/index/middle finger but other than that it was just so nice.
Same applies to the official car dock I used with my Note back then.. Oh them memories.
Haven't had that kind of experience with my One M7 which is sad since otherwise I've just loved this phone.
Shame that the official accessories have pretty much died and replaced with universal junk.
I mean like with my One M7, I tried three different docks made by a third party "for the M7" (run of the mill chinese designs which are slightly tweaked and regurgitated for each new phone) which were basically what was available at the time
1) USB port isn't aligned properly
2) doesn't fit the phone properly, rocks side to side and front to back
3) this one was just bearable but decided to break after a week or two of use, the internal USB failed so it wouldn't charge anymore.
Fun! So I gave up, whatever. Don't want to waste any more money on crap products.. At times like these I wish I'd have a 3D printer so I could design my own...
How safe is this iProtect dock with all these USB-C Charging shenanigans? Any chance of frying the device?
edit : excuse double post

Using an QC 2 dock from iProtect with my M9. They are simple but solid and working as expected. They already launched a USB C dock with QC 3 as well. Will give it a try as soon as I received my 10. Hope it helps.

As far as I can tell it is save as it utilizes an IQ technology as well.

Lisa from Mobiletechreview mentioned the Microsoft Lumia dock works with the HTC 10, meaning the HTC 10 can charge while screen mirroring, connecting to peripherals such as hard drives, etc. This is pretty awesome and has pushed me toward jumping to get the HTC 10. HTC 10 might be the closest android fans get to a desktop replacement phone. If only it could run full Chrome, it could be a chromebook/desktop replacement.

I would probably be worthwhile to check out some of Benson Leung's reviews.

Some of those docks to not meet the spec, so be careful.
Do they support fast charging for HTC 10?
Keep us posted! Subscribed here to stay current.
Anyone have any updates?

Check out also the lambda dock. To be on the save side, you simply use the cable supplied with the phone.
Here the link to the website

Slow charge or regular charge? I guess it's meant to do it overnight. Maybe it can be modded to fit our quick charge cables

with a 3.0 charger plug charges fast so my mistake.
How about scaling on those mirrored screens? I have tried MHL cable with my fullhd Sony Z2 with a fullhd monitor and it just mirrors the screen. It is not smart enought to get things smaller on a larger screen ie. the icons are huge on monitor, remote desktop is too small on mobile screen and so is on the monitor, it should instead be scaled properly. Does anyone know will usb 3.0/3.1 connection will be smarter or that is the problem with android? Look at this for example http://www.winbeta.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/HP-Elite-x3-Dock.jpg I am not MS fan or I want to buy MS phone but this scales as it should.
