'Get your apps & data' doesn't like my current phone ? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a HTC One Mini 2 unbranded which backs up daily and for good measure I just forced it to up. I'm switching to a Nexus 5x and trying to transfer the settings, apps and data as it offered.
The Nexus 5x only lists by Nexus 7 tablet, not my HTC , any ideas ?
The HTC backup app isn't available for the Nexus 5x so I can't get that to restore everything.

I've noticed that in the past with some of my devices. I can restore backups from my A500 or Captivate but not from my SIII or N5. Sometimes only my N5 is available. I never looked into it because I use Titanium Backup on all of my devices, but you might try disabling sync and then reenabling it on the HTC to force a backup. Don't know if that will work or not. My recommendation would be to root and run TiBu, but if root isn't an option without wiping data first, there are other backup apps that don't require root.

Titanium backups from GS2 to Nexus

OK, so I used to have a Galaxy S2 and was wondering if there is any way that I could use my backups of games from those files that are on my computer and put them on my nexus? Is it OK to restore those backups with data to my nexus or will that cause some sort of stability issues? I just want to restore some game data's not any system apps. Thank you in advance.

I've restored several titanium backups from my Gnex to my vibrant and vice versa. Everything went fine with no problems what so ever. Just don't restore system apps because that will most definitely cause some fc's.
i had no problem restoring apps+data from my nexus s to galaxy nexus. no issues afterwards..
Same here, from Atrix to GN, no problem.
Cool! thank you all for the quick responses

[Q] How does Androids built in app backup work?

So I've been using titanium backup now for about 3 years. Sometime between then and now Google has included a service that backs up your apps and app data for you, and restores them on your new or freshly wiped phone.
My question is does it really backup all your app data? I'm assuming it just re-downloads the apps from the play store and restores that apps data? And how often does android backup your apps data?
Some clarification on how this works would be great. Thanks.

Yeah want to know this too!
And how I'm able to delete these apps, because every time I accidentally leave the box ticked, it downloads apps I don't use... Like freakbook, and its pretty annoying, that's why I don't use it anymore...

The app have to support application backup for it to work.

I, too, would love to learn more about managing what's stored in Google from our phones. I've been on Android for years now, and can't imagine how much crap is up there that would be worthless today. Having an option to review your backed up apps and data with the ability of pruning would be wonderful.

A Google search has found this
you'll probably run into issues when switching roms, if you're going to restore system data everytime.
So far I have settled for a Nandroid backup and mybackup from the market.
Titanium serves the purpose as well. Although I'm not much of a fan yet.

Titanium backup, only use it to backup and restore user apps though, use gapps an google playstore to restore system apps.

[Q] (Q) How do i Transfer over games saves?

I just bought the 2013 Nexus 7 and downloaded all my apps. How do I port over my CSR Racing and Real Racing 3 saved progress from my Nexus 7 2012? I have spent hours and hours playing these 2 games not to mention made in app purchases i don't wanna start all over. I don't have a FB signing in via social media isn't an option.
If there's any app that'll do the job quick & easily it'll be Titanium Backup. Backup app+data from the old and restore on the new.

You could try helium.

I have used it before.
Doesn't one of the new google services transfer over saved game data also.

Copy the respective data folders from your old nexus' sd card, and paste them in the right place on the new nexus.
If there are any additional folders, google them, and find them in your old nexus and paste them here too. I did it in Raging Thunder game I used to play on my old Desire, and even Smash Cops Heat, though I don't play them anymore, they worked back then with all data intact..
Easy peasy
open titanium backup> backup those games> plug your nexus 7 to the PC, and get the folder in sdcard/titaniumbackup, then plug your new nexus 7 and transfer the folder to it.
now open titanium backup in your nexus 2013 and restore the games.
First thing we need to know is if you are rooted or not. Titanium and many other backup apps only work if you are rooted.

Titanium is a real arse in my case. Hugely messy, and doesn't seem to wok in my case. i've tried it on two devices, my old desire and new nexus, but it seems to like being stuck. Often used to cause bootloops on my old Desire, and now doesn't work on my new nexus, so I've ditched it, and I'm using other methods for that.

Obviously, you will need to be rooted...
Using Helium partially worked I was able to upload my game save files to Dropbox but I couldn't restore them down to my N72013 Helium kept giving an error message. So I don't know where exactly to copy & paste gaming files to on the N72013

If you have helium on both devices, you can sync the data of any app between the two. Works great.

So, what are my options for backup non rooted?

I want to start fresh after the kk update. I have a profile for me and my son. I looked into helium but it has iffy results judging by feedback I read. Are there any other options? I would like to avoid root for now but since I bought square trade warranty I suppose it's not a huge deal.
I back all my stuff using KIES. Backs up my apps, snotes, system settings, etc.

helium is working fine for me but you have to connect your device to a PC and runa script to be able to save or restore anything.
price for non rooted devices and probably the reason for low feadback.
I also use it to transfer apps from my phone to tablet.
Any one tried mybackup from the playstore?
Been thinking of testing it out, but never find the time....

I've had varying success with Helium. When I do a system reset and try to restore from Helium about 80% of the apps will restore with data and the rest just fails. There's no explanation of reasoning behind which ones fail. And, when restoring all of the apps the process stops when a restore fails. I have to then start restoring after the failed app.
If you are relying on getting that data back don't count on Helium.
So apart from all the great guy stuff do search on Google for full backup android using adb. No rooting needed.
I would give you the link but I am on my phone today...
