Sudden Major battery drain on Note 4! - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I took my note 4 off the charger this morning and used it for about 1.5 hours (no videos, just tapatalk and Web browsing) , and the battery went down to 73%. During this time I also noticed that my wifi toggle was turning off and on for no reason. I don't have smart network control check on.
Then I went about my day and set my phone down, asleep, and didn't touch it. At 11am I hear the "low battery" beep. I go over to my phone and it's at 5%!
My battery has never been this bad before, and this just started today with no app changes. As I'm typing this, my phone went from 20% to 16%.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue (both wifi toggling and battery issue) and know a fix? I've attached my battery graph from today.
Edit: It looks like the phone was "awake" all day today except for the time it turned off due to low battery. Also, it looks like Bluetooth is using way more battery than it should be.
Thanks!

So I found the culprit for the wifi. I have a tasker profile that turns it off when I'm not connected via Bluetooth to my house phone. This means that there is something wrong with my Bluetooth. Nothing has changed with my house phones. Any ideas on the Bluetooth?

Try getting rid of the Tasker profile. I don't think it's your phone. I bought Tasker and tried to set up some cool stuff but it kept messing things up. I don't use it any more. Android does a pretty good job of taking care of stuff without it.

Thanks that was actually the first thing I did when I found out it was a tasker problem. I don't keep wifi on all the time due to battery drain (unless I'm mistaken on that?) so I'll have to bring it back eventually. I didn't think android had a "turn wifi toggle on when home" ability.
I unpaired my house phones and I'm going to repair them tonight and see if that helps.

Lollipop doesn't let you toggle Wi-Fi with Tasker anymore w/o root access.

You can still toggle wifi. It's gps that you can't toggle without root.

I've had this happen to me twice including just now hence why I searched for posts on this. Seems like it happens randomly when I stop using WiFi hotspot and I'm at home with my WiFi automatically trying to turn on. I use wifimatic which turns WiFi on when I'm near a cell tower near my home and shuts off when out of range of that tower. My WiFi won't automatically connect if I turn off my Hotspot, so I have to restart. Just twice now this drained my battery from like 30 to 0 in less than a minute. It's not often it happens and I'm home anyhow so putting it on the charger isn't a problem. Maybe this helps but maybe not.

It's been my experience that leaving wifi on doesn't drain the battery very much. I leave mine on. Besides, the quick toggle is very easy to use. Trying to automate it is more trouble.

WiFi Scanning constantly

I have been having poor battery life since I got this device on launch day. I just noticed today that my Wifi is constantly scanning even though it is connected. I usually keep Wifi on most of the time since I have really slow 3g at home and the building I work in is like a concrete bunker built in the 1970s so nobody gets very good service in there.
Anybody else notice this?

this is also happening to me, and it is KILLING MY BATTERY!!!! really frustrating.
What do i look for to notice if its scanning constantly? is it the popup that comes up? with the networks that are in range?
i installed a free app called "watchdog lite", and it notifies me everytime my cpu usage goes over 50%, and at this time, i open watchdog, and it tells me "android system" is using 90%+ of the cpu... <<-- this happened EVERY 5 MINUTES when wifi is on. with wifi off, this only happened once in a while, maybe once every couple hours...
screenshow below: the critical battery drop happened when i turned on wifi, and CPU usage was going over 50% every other minute, and i restarted phone...
btw, this wifi issue does NOT happen when the phone is connected to a charger

I've noticed this as well and I believe its also negatively impacting battery life. Its interesting that it would continue to scan while its connected.

I posted on this earlier this morning. My wifi also turns off after about 4 to 5 minutes. I can toggle it off then back on ever time but this can't be normal.

I see it now....damn never looked there actually. So is basically a bug.
Fixed yet?
I think multiple people (myself included) have confirmed that this was normal behavior - it scans constantly, yet there's no battery drain associated with it.
It seems that whenever you are on that Wifi settings page, it keep scanning constantly. But when you leave the page, it stops doing it that often (or at least doesn't drain the batter.)
You can check that by turning off wifi and still noticing big drain - which would indicate that wifi isn't the issue.
Now, there may also be a bug where this constant scanning actually continues. But like I said, it doesn't do it for everyone.
Use y5 battery saver from the market. It turns on and off with known networks and helps alot.

My wife's is doing this and it is definitely affecting battery. Viewing the battery graph, it does a decline of about 30 degrees with only 3G on and with wifi on it does a treacherous drop of about 50 degrees. I've actually told her to just leave 3G on all the time because it is easier on the battery. Hoping for a fix soon.
Mine scans a lot but doesn't hurt the battery. With moderate use im at 50% with 12 hours on.

Check your wifi sleep policy.
Samsung Galaxy S II
J-u-i-c-e d-e-f-e-n-d-e-r
If you want to try something, change WiFi Sleep Policy to *never*.
It seems counterintuitive, but the bug where Android system uses a lot of CPU uses much more power than setting WiFi Sleep Policy to never as the WiFi is using very little power when not transmitting data while Android system is just sucking up your battery with this bug.

Serious battery drain for the past few Weeks!

Can someone help and tell me if anything looks wrong in one of these pics? My phone sometimes sleeps and sometimes it don't. Just woke up from a nap to this. Phone was fully charged while I slept smh

I'm running stock rom. It just started doing this recently. About the time I started moving apps to the sd card. That's the only thing I could think of. I know when I put too many apps on sd card my phone will go into a continuous boot loop. I'm going to move everything back to the phone and see what happens

The thing that bugs me is that display time is so high in % and it only was on for 22 mins. Then I took a nap and it stood at the top. Usually my Android OS takes the top spot when phone is not in use. This is mad weird! But i'm trying both things now..

Your phone was awake the entire time while your screen was not. That means you have a serious wakelock issue. Horrible Battery Life

It would seem that after I installed the AT&T update to dumb down thr search on my phone, my battery life has been terrible. Yesterday it was down to about 30% after only 4 hours of light use with the processes "Android OS" and "Cell Standby" taking up the most battery. I can't even get through the day with this phone. Some help would be much appreciated.
After any update, give it a couple days to level out. Until then, just carry an extra charger and plug in when you can.
The update was installed at least a week ago.
In that case, backup everything and do a factory reset when you have a fully charged battery.
Alright I'll give it a shot. I needed to do that anyway as my clipboard no longer works and consistently crashes. :/
I did a factory reset a few weeks ago and that solved it for me.
Do you have any specific methods for backing up a phone that isn't rooted? I've got nova backed up, but I would like to make sure everything else is too.

Hi all,
Since getting the phone from day one, I really never had a problem with the battery. Lately however, I've noticed a significant drain in battery over night. I tested the drain a few times over several nights, and even put my phone into "airplane" mode to help save battery.
Below are my results from going to sleep at 1:30am with 100% battery power and in airplane mode and waking up at 9:30am the next morning. I get a 12% decrease in battery over night for doing nothing over the course of 8 hours.
The only thing I've noticed differently is that Chrome is starting to use battery which is odd because I rarely use Chrome to begin with.
Any ideas to help this? What should I do?

Oh... and this is only 1 hour of screen on time...
I guess my cell signal kinda BLOWS??? could this be the culprit?
Your signal search seems to suck, may be one issue. Another thing to try is go to system/bin and delete at add .bak to qosmgr and gsiff_daemon. They tend to try and run scripts for your CPU that don't apply. Next, do a Google search for kill media server apk. When you run it, it kills the media server that tends to eat a lot of battery. Disable sync on Google magazine/book/movies also. Last, buy gsm battery monitor from the play store and also battery battery stats. They will identify what's eating or power supply. Almost always on power up you can see the download/media app runs like crazy and if you don't force stop will just continue to drain and run.
You may also want to check into different governor settings to see if it will help. I also found it helpful to turn off Facebook sync unless i use the app....do the same for others u don't use like Google talk, maps, etc.

You seem to have a wakelock issue. Did you turn off google now and disable report location in Maps?
Also, if your signal is the problem, you can test that by either 1) disabling the cellular radio (airplane mode + wifi on), or 2) by forcing roaming on another network with a better signal (roam control, internal roaming settings of the rom, using a different prl etc.)
Couple things to help for sure.... GTalk is auto sign in.. So make sure it's signed out, Sync settings, Extend duration between them! (Emails to few hours instead of push (Obviously it'll sync when you open the app), Try running Juice defender, It'll disable data if screen off. (SMS comes through) Brightness, turn it down some, I'm running the Ktoonservative with the kernel.. Netting atleast 2 hours screen on, 11+ hours battery and still sitting about 60% remaining (most days) Those are the settings i'm using and things i'm doing. (I play games off and on, Text, read forums, news, facebook) also, ensure Media isn't running. (Not media server) it's known to eat some battery randomly. Just a few things off the top of my head to help.

Wifi or cellular, it doesn't matter as far as wakelocks are concerned.
Cellular data consumes more battery than wifi data.
Unless you disable data all together, using wifi is more efficient way to run your phone.

On you are not grasping my simple statement I never said WiFi want more efficient but it would be foolish to pretend it doesn't wake lock and kernel alarm it up. For one wpa pretty much requires it to communicate every so often. Other reason.... couldn't tell you why precisely but of you look then you will notice it does in fact create huge wake periods

I would suggest killing your mobile data, or for a more extreme test running in airplane mode with wifi on.
I personally get 20-30 hours at home browsing the web / texting / googling / etc over the weekend, maybe 18-20 when im out and about. But at work i get MAYBE 6 hours, with under 30 minutes scrren on and usually less and an hour awake. Why the huge difference? Mobile signal strength at home i keep mobile data off, and wifi on, and have ~ -75dbm signal strength. At work i have no wifi and ~ -110dbm and my phone is constantly trying to get a better signal.
Looking at your original post, what is "audioOut_2" and " PowerManagerService"
Question, is media server something that can be frozen in Titanium Backup?

AT&T Kit Kat Bug Report Thread

Report any and all bugs you've come across while using the Kit Kat update. I'll update the OP when things get verified by more than one person.
As this phone isn't my daily driver (switched back to an iPhone. FOR SHAME!) I have only come across one bug.
The brightness resets back to 100% and turns off Auto Brightness upon a reboot.
So far from what I can tell:
1) Home LED does not stay consistent when plugged in. Sometimes the LED will be 100%, and sometimes it will be at around 50%.
I did not get the Auto-brightness Bug mentioned above. When I have Auto-Brightness on and restart the phone, it stays on.

Yeah, LED pulses as it charges. Not sure if thats what you're seeing.
So, the brightness bug only happens when you don't have a sim card in the phone. Odd.
Seems there is a bug with battery stats shown by the battery stats app
When the battery stats app is launchedjust after reboot, it fails to show any battery consumption against the screen..however once the phone is put to sleep and woken up, the screen time starts showing, but with the screen on time only after the screen is woken up, which leaves out any screen on time before the phone was put to sleep..this leads to underreporting of screen on time
For example stats below show screen on time of 1hr 30 mins, while it should be more like 2 hr 30 mins (1 hour was the use just after reboot but before putting the phone to sleep for the first time)

QSlide Apps
Some Qslide Apps open and close very quickly. Any suggestions on a fix?
If you use SwiftKey you may get the error message: Unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped. A quick uninstall reboot and reinstall fixed the issue for me. Seems to be common. You may not see it (from the Play version) either as I am using the paid version from Amazon.

Yeap. same issue. Battery life is extremely crappy.
I have seen the exact opposite regarding battery life. Since the update my wife's G Pro has had great battery life.

Battery has been great for me too. Doesn't seem worse possibly even better. Many times it takes a couple days to stabilize and if you are playing with the KitKat goodness a lot that could be part of it. I did factory reset and install all apps from scratch.

Those with bad battery life... Did you use a TOT, Update from a previous version, or flash the ROM? I am worried the ROM does not flash the modem. This may be causing wakelocks.

It's been roughly two days I suppose since I updated. Haven't used my phone much, it just drains quickly now. May as well factory reset and see what happens. Good to hear you guys are having luck with the update. Cheers!

I flashed tot, sometimes when I try to make a call the first one will wait and then pop a message saying mobile network not available, then the second call will go through but takes significant extra time. Anyone else have this issue or should I reflash?
