From what I can see, everything about this device screams Verizon, a US carrier. Even though it is S-OFF and has SuperCID. What I suggest you try is:
Make a Nandroid backup of your current setup. Once this is backed up, remove it from the device to a safe place on your PC.
Download and flash the stock Verizon RUU file from here: I suggest the .exe version as it will be a simple process. If you are confident enough, then the .zip version. Read the thread, read ALL the instructions BEFORE you start.
Man my phone works with any gsm sim and verizon is not written anywhere on my device plus i am new to advance mobile computing i am not able to understand half the stuff you are saying. How to take the nandroid backup
P.s-my phone is not rooted

I'm sorry if you cannot understand what I'm saying. The information you posted points to the device having Verizon firmware and operating system. The device was modified before you took possession of it, you have S-OFF, SuperCID though you say you are not rooted. That may be. You just have to sit down and start reading. Use the search function in XDA and search by "keyword" what you are looking for. Only when you understand the basics will you be able to go further.
Now what should i do first ? Root my phone

To make a Nandroid backup you need to root the phone and then flash TWRP recovery. Follow this thread. You're already S-OFF so that part can be skipped.
So i have to skip twrp part ok ill follow that thread

thats a hell of a thread it will take loads of time ill text when i am done with this
Should i flash lollipop version or kitkat?

Forget about those. Follow the thread. If you are not willing to follow basic instructions, you will brick your device. Follow the thread for root as it describes in the thread. Then flash the correct version of TWRP recovery. Stop being so impatient. You MUST follow the instructions or you will brick.
Ok sorry ill follow the thread but somethings in the rooting procedure are unclear thats y i asked about the alternative

I agree with Einwod, the product name "M8_WLV" in bootloader means its the Verizon version; and the OS number in bootloader (3.28.605.4) also backs this up.
The Verizon version M8 does support GSM (and GSM SIMs), is SIM unlocked out of the box; but also supports CDMA.
The software number in Settings (3.31.512.2) is related to the current ROM. This number appears to be the software number for the LRA version M8. Which I'm not too familiar with, but Googling around, it appears this is for the "LTE for Rural Areas" network, which is basically just a subsidiary of Verizon. My guess is, that the previous owner flashed the LRA ROM in order to remove Verizon branding in the software (or maybe they just removed any Verizon branding manually).
Also, the lack of Verizon logo on the back of the phone means nothing. We've seen a few devices on the forum here that have had their backplates replaced, causing confusion as to what version they are.

Again, I agree with Einwod, while you may not have rooted the phone, it was absolutely modified. The previous owner did s-off and SuperCID to the phone, and changed the ROM.
Where did you get this phone? If the seller claimed it to be the GSM version (non-Verizon or Sprint) and never rooted, those claims were false. Unrooted maybe (returned to a non-root condition). But it was definitely rooted at one time, made s-off, and custom ROM installed.
I am afraid that flashing a new rom would effect the sim functioning etc . My phone was imported from taiwan

Hey guys, I'm running ViperOne 2.4.0. with TWRP recovery installed. For some reason when it boots up, the only thing it shows is an unusual HTC splash screen with red writing at the bottom, similar to if it were booting into recovery, but without the pink "entering recovery" message at the top. What is causing this, can it be changed by adding a new splash screen and/or boot animation? It just stays on this screen for a painfully long time, and then goes black. I tap the screen and it's on, and everything is fine. Thanks in advance.

You don't need S-Off to upgrade firmware with official untouched firmware.
With S-On you can't downgrade.
I believe your device is T-Mobile so grab the OTA.zip from T-Mobile section and extract out the firmware and use it.
Or.. do a proper OTA update.... or use the RUU ... all your answers are in T-Mobile section

I never know a Viper ROM is based on 2.22.531.5 CL365360 release-keys Your OP is mentioning about Viper.
Firmware is what written on bootloader - OS : ?????????
In Build Number in settings is the ROM version.
Well I guess I need to stop responding to Q&A for devices which have their own specific forum ....
I know nothing when it comes to T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon ... sorry

First of all, this isn't an "international GSM" forum. It's an HTC One M8 forum. That to me, means that it's for all users of this particular phone. Second, there is nothing that explains in explicit detail how I can fix this particular problem, in the T-Mo specific forum. Anyway, thanks.

That's what I'm trying to tell.
You do have a lower version firmware meant for 4.4.2 (the reason why it takes long time to boot and the black screen)
Firmware 4.4.3 has hboot 3.18.0.000 or greater than 3.16.0.0000

There is no need to go for S-Off if you don't need it. The only thing is once you updated to 4.4.3, S-Off thru SunShine may not work too. (currently)
So it's all depends on what you want/prefer to do :
1. backup your current Viper ROM and revert to stock ROM and do normal OTA (no need to relock bootloader)
Once complete, reinstall TWRP and restore your Viper ROM backup (so no reinstalling hassle)
or
2. revert to stock ROM with RUU (you need to relock bootloader)
Once complete, you need to reunlock bootloader and install TWRP and restore your backup.
or
3. keep/backup your current setup of Viper ROM and flash only the HTC signed firmware either thru fastboot or use a external_sdcard method. Both way you need to relock bootloader and re-unlock again after complete. Always remember unlocking bootloader will wipe your data. So make a backup to PC first. And you need to reflash TWRP too. You can try without relock bootloader first and see as I can't remember whether it will work on an unlocked bootloader or not. If not working, then try again with relocked bootloader.
I guess you can have all the info and files needed in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456

Okay thanks man. None of that sounds like something I feel like doing this weekend. I'll see how I feel Monday and attempt it. Many thanks for your patience.
Speaking personally, I would say if you currently have the ability to s-off you may as well do it and save yourself some headaches. Reason being, if you're s-off you can, for example, flash a modified firmware that doesn't erase your rom or bootloader, which to me, is a lot less confusing and troublesome. You can also do things like flash different radios, animations, etc without installing new roms and what not. Anyways, that's just my opinion and I don't claim to be an expert or anything, just another random user.
Hi all,
I bought an AT&T HTC One (M8) set a year back and there is no Lollipop update till now. I have tried to reset the phone to factory setting as well. FYI, I'm living in Malaysia and i did not buy the phone directly from AT&T. Whenever i "check for updates" the message will be "No update is available for your device at this time. Your device will automatically check for an update within the next 48 hours." I always get this message from 1 year back till now.
Versions:
Android version: 4.4.2
HTC Sense version: 6.0
Software number: 1.58.502.1
HTC SDK API Level: 6.17
Kernel version: 3.4.0-gaabcaed [email protected] # 1 SMP PREEMPT (IS IT ROOTED?)
Baseband: 1.16.21331931.LA1 1G_20.31A.4145.02L
Build Number: 1.58.502.1 CL335549 release-keys
Maybe because you're not connected to their network.
You can run AT&T RUU to manually update it to lollipop.
Read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
Use that RUU 5.0.2
If you are willing to shell out the $25, you can also S-off, install the Developer Edition, and essentially have the same thing, except debloated and easily rootable. The developer edition phones are AT&T phones (same MID) with an unlocked bootloader and no SIM lock.

1. Boot to bootloader you will see it's written there either S-On or S-Off.
But not to worry so much on this as I believe you have a stock device. You need to see whether it is written "LOCKED" or "RELOCKED" or "UNLOCKED" there.
2. If it is "LOCKED" or "RELOCKED" - just run the RUU directly and follow the instructions.
Note : this will wipe everything in your internal storage ... make a backup of your important files like musics, photos & etc to PC before you proceed RUUing your device.

That is the cost to go S-off with Sunshine, which is required to change the CID. Theoretically, you could skip that, just unlock the bootloader, and restore a nandroid backup. However, if you change the CID you can use an official RUU and get OTA updates.

How long does it take? Mines been "Updating..(0/6) Sending" for over an hour even though it says it only takes 10 minutes.
Update: Ok, it was taking so long because it wasn't doing anything. Not sure if its my port but apparently updating your M8 through the RUU won't work with USB 3.0. I would recommend to use a USB 2.0 port and if possible the original USB cable that came with the phone.

First .. we need to know your device current hboot, CID, MID & etc.
Put your device in bootloader mode and connect to PC and open a command prompt from where you have your fastboot/adb files. then run this command in the command prompt
fastboot getvar all
copy the result and post here but delete the IMEI no & Serial no.
If you don't have fastboot/adb installed, read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790

Hmmm... m8_ul_ca ... means it's not a HKG device and not a EU device
If I'm not wrong m8_ul_ca is either AT&T or Developer Edition device. (m8_ul_ca I believe is a US device)
but previously S-Offed to change the MID to EU and SuperCID.
And that's explain your 4G problem in your country, most probably is the radio band version which I'm not familiar with.
@redpoint73 - can you help on this radio matter as you are more expert on this
You can try either using EU 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1

Not all Australia device has 0P6B110, Optus is 0P6B650
and mine an Asian one has 0P6B110 too. Eventhough that website say Taiwan has 0P6B150 but that is for m8_ul_tw because the regular Taiwan m8_ul is 0P6B110
So don't worry so much on this what written on the back because it's getting weird for a m8_ul_ca to have 0P6B110 instead of 0P6B120

With your current hboot, you should be able to run any lollipop ROM. You can give that ROM a try .. maybe some configuration in that ROM will help your radio (4G) problem.

Coming from someone of your knowledge, I consider that quite a complement!
Ironically, the radio number is neither for AT&T or Dev Edition. But actually matches what is listed for the Euro RUU you linked:

You can try either using EU 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1

To the OP, what country are you in?
Who is your carrier, and do you know what LTE bands they use?
You asked about a ROM then you ask me to link a ROM ...
that's something that I cannot do because I don't use any of those custom ROMs as I'm on my own made ROM (including SkyDragon is part of my ROM).
I believe all ROMs are good. You just need to try all of them and see which is best suit you. SkyDragon you have 4G problem.. then try MaximusHD, LeeDroid, Viper, InsertCoin & etc.
Maybe try MaximusHD first as this is close to stock custom ROM so less modding/tweaking for you to handle.
You need to see whether 4G is working on this ROM then later try other ROM too ... that's all

I agree, its really strange the product ID (m8_ul_ca is for AT&T) does not match the MID (0P6B110) on back of the phone.
The phone was also likely s-off previously, as the CID was clearly changed (to SuperCID) and the MID listed in the getvar output is 0P6B100 (also probably changed by the previous owner).

Yeah .. believe that's the case .. and I guess on the back of the phone it is written as M8x as 0P6B110 usually for M8x.
But product ID is m8_ul_ca suggests the back cover is most probably just a replacement cover.

Ah yes, a replacement cover, what makes much more sense now!
So its most likely an AT&T variant, with replacement back cover, that was previously s-off, changed to Euro MID, SuperCID, and Euro firmware flashed (maybe all Euro software before the OP started modding it).
I recommend again that the OP verify that his carrier is using bands that are supported by the Euro version (at least tell us what country, carrier, and what LTE bands that carrier uses, if known). My guess is "no" and in which case, OP will probably need to s-off and flash the proper radio that supports the required LTE bands.

I always wonder if a device was S-Offed with SunShine by the previous owner, then the new owner use SunShine to S-Off again, I think the SunShine apk will run and will not request for payment.
What I know SunShine should work on the same device multiple times provided the motherboard is not changed.
Something for OP to try.

Since my last post I have found out that my phone is actually a german phone. So it won't update because it's on a UK network trying to download a german update which is why I get the network connection failed error. I have downloaded the tool kit to try and root it but when I go to get token ID some of the code is protected so I can't see the CID number or the mid number.

Ok so where do I go from here?
Hi Guys,
I have a very similar problem, maybe you have an idea how to fix it. I bought an Austrian HTC M8 and since Lollipop I couldn't OTA update it. I had it for a long time, but never had the time to figure out why it can't update. Turns out, the previous owner had the bootloader opened (I have talked with HTC support and they checked).
I've written down all sorts of information needed, but long story short, I run full stock software (haven't even rooted it). Can you give me any suggestion how to get it to update?
Thank you in advance, I would really appreciate any help.
(Btw, I've been a long forum follower [like Samsung Omina with cooked Froyo old], but I have successfully outlocked myself from my old account - deleted my email account, to which it was linked to.)

I have no idea as I know nothing about China Set. You have to wait for the expert to advise.
If possible, return the device to seller.

Your case is totally different and very easy to fix.
Please post in HELP THREAD (the no. 1 listed in Q&A) if you can't find a similar case or you can create a new thread.

Is it possible to flash the m8w to an english firmware? and is so how?
Hello,
I brought the phone this February and its working fine. It is running on Kitkat-4.4.2. Then when I searched for software update it shows an update available: 1.54.709.12 (233 MB). But when I download it and try to install, it says "We have determined that your phone may be running a modified version of its system software. For your protection, we cannot update your phone. Please revert your phone to the official HTC system software to update your phone. If you did not modify your system software or would like help reverting your system, please contact us via the support section at www . htc . com"
I saw the bootloader and its locked and cheked if its rooted using rootchecker and its not.
I would prefer not to root my mobile.
I want to update to marshmallow and I am unable to do it
Following are some details:

Please help.......and thank you in advance.
That's usually means the MID is wrong for the software region that you have.
As yours is a S-Off device, I would say it is easy to fix it.
First thing .. we need to know what the MID is. Run this command - fastboot getvar mid
If you need the driver & tools for this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4

Thank you very much for such quick reply.

I am from India and I want to get OTA updates in future.
Your MID is a EU MID
You can change it to India MID if you want to but it's a bit complicated for you I guess as it will involve change of MID, you may need to unlock bootloader & etc but it's not difficult.
Anyway .. for a start, make it totally EU version by flashing a Marshmallow EU RUU .. you don't need to unlock bootloader and you don't need to change MID. You will still can receive OTA if there is one but I think there will be no more OTA updates as M8 is already on its EOL (means no more HTC further support)
What you need to do :
option 1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926626&postcount=6
option 2 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66271711&postcount=4
either one should be fine for your device.

I don't think there will be issue as we notice most custom ROMs are based on EU ROM and many users from India are using them.

I'd recommend updating all the firmware (which in addition to hboot also includes radio, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a lot of other important modules) not just hboot. Being on hboot 3.16 means all your firmware is outdated, as in 2 years old. Updating to current firmware is best for compatibility with current ROMs.
You can either update by RUU (as discussed above) if available for your version. Or return to stock ROM and recovery, and update OTA (which will update the firmware). But we'd need to know more specifics about your device, to give more detailed direction. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
I have the same problem with my htc m9. I cannot do these processes as I am not a professional and don't have a computer .I have a doubt ,If it is the problem with region ,Why can't we simply changes the region by turbo VPN and try to update the Android version

You can't do that, since for HTC devices the region has little or nothing to do with spoofing where your phone is located (with VPN, etc.). The model ID (MID) and carrier ID (CID) are encoded into the phone. You typically can't change this on HTC devices, unless you have s-off. But further advice would be specific to the M9, and you should either search or post the M9 device forum. Following advice for a different device (this is for M8) is dangerous and can damage your phone!
