Gadget insurance for Zenfone 2? - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm based in New Delhi, India. I'm thinking of getting a gadget insurance for Asus Zenfone 2 Laser since I read a few reviews for original Zenfone 2 and Laser citing screen breaking due to fall and the cost of screen replacement being almost half of the total cost. Has anyone taken insurance for the model in India? Any recommendations. Thanks.

Replacing plastic

Hey guys,
I bought a S2 damaged from several falls. I want to replace the plastic myself. The screen itself is fine and so is the battery cover but I would need to replace the plastic around the loudspeaker and the silver rim, which is badly damaged.
Is it possible to replace this yourself? If so could someone link me to a reliable site to buy the replacements. I live in Slovenia (Part of EU) so shipping shouldn't be a problem.
Also any tips wouldn't hurt!
Thanks!
You should know by now that shipping is always a problem here even if we are in the EU because some people still don't consider us as a first world country so they simply don't send stuff to us.
To answer your question... Did you check Amazon and Ebay? You can also find a service manual if you search for it. It was posted here once or twice.

Exactly wht came to my mind
Why does that matter? It's obvious he got it at a a much more decent price than he would a new one. Be sure to check on your warranty before disassembling the device. Odds are you'd lose it. Perhaps you could try and get it repaired by an authorised person, for all we know, it could be at a modest price too.

Hey, welcome on board, mate!
Well, you could buy the phone from amazon in USA. However if you could just hold on for few more days, a local ASUS or any other retailer should have it in Argentina.
Cheers!
I gave up waiting for the Zenphone 2 in the states and preorded an Alcatel Idol 3 for $200 yesterday. I couldn't pass up the deal.

Ill be shopping for a new device in june-july. Im watching this one closely. If it gets aosp roms or cm12 im buying. Looks to be a beast for the low price point.

You buggers, I just ordered one as well. I'm enjoying the Zenfone 2 but this looks like a good entry level phone. I have family and friends that are asking if I have any "extra" phones. For this price it will be a great backup to play with.

[Q] Replaceable back covers

Hi everyone. Has anyone seen replaceable back battery covers for sale for the Zenfone 2? I know Asus are shouting about the different colours and designs on the Zenfone 2 website, but I can't find anywhere to buy them.

I haven't seen anything available yet either. I'm sure we'll find out more info about availability on Monday.

Anyone got this phone ?

Just would like to know if anyone is already using this phone ?
I ordered the ZTE Axon 7 (4GB) on Amazon - never got the gray one...
Thought about buying the Lonovo Zuk pro2 but don't like no sd-slot !
So I ordered the Asus with 6GB / only 64GB version is available right now.
Should be delivered in apr. 8 days.
My 256gb 6gb Ram version was mailed to me yesterday... Waiting for it though it may take around 5 days....
Waiting SUX!!!!!
Yes I got mine on Saturday.
Really loving it so far

Where did you buy the 256GB version?? US?
Sent from my SM-N930T using XDA-Developers mobile app
I have it !
I came from ZF2 to this. Purchased from Taiwanese EBay seller. Deluxe ZS570KL ,820, 64GB
Loving it. Disabled all the bloat until root is provided. This things so fast you don't even know its there anway. I'm a huge fan of vanilla, so Installed Google Launcher. Perfection.
CONS so far:
- Sim cover is loose fitting. This seems to be widespread - im tempted to put a pinhead blob of bluetack in there, as its the door, not the tray. Such a small issue.
- Its so well made its slippery, similar to the HTC10. Case is on the way so wont be an issue after that
- Understandably, Battery life is a < day. I have so many chargers around, its not an issue for me.
PROS so Far:
- Fast
- Screen is gorgeous.
- Photo quality is amazing.
- It has not spontaneously exploded in my pocket in close proximity to my balls
- Overall, as a package, I'm super happy. Its a flagship killer.
My one missing feature would be wireless charging.... but there's so much inside this small package already, that I understand why its not.
Quite happy to help with any root/bootloader/rom projects when someone something gets underway in the forums.
Cheers, Mike
I've got a Snapdragon 821, 6gb ram, 256gb rom version as well.

Seller on ebay... also got the tempered glass protector and the flip case...
The flip case is stuck on with the sticky stuff they have on phone holders... It is an ASUS case...
Don't have a problem with the sim cover, in really tight - 6gb 256gb Snapdragon 821 version..
Case is great, it sticks on well and no issues with it as yet.
Very quick, no real problems there.
Amazon app store keeps force closing - old version of Amazon appstore. Downloaded new one and everything works fine...
Otherwise no problems, though funnily enough I haven't actually called anyone yet...
64GB/6GB/820 Was delivered this morning. Took only a day and half to get to me!!! Was very impressed! ASUS nailed it. Beautiful phone! Even more beautiful in person. I was extremely impressed. CAN'T WAIT TO GET A ROOT/CUSTOM ROM on this thing!
@ GodKingKnight: Where did you buy ?
I did not receive mine....same as with the ZTE...no luck with those new phones.

No, no shipping info either...
I asked Asus store USA but they won't deliver to Europe. I should get some one from within the USA to ship to and then send to me.
Only Asus store where the 5.7" ones are listed is the Spain one, but none is on stock.
hey any comparisons with the one plus 3?
trying to decide which to buy...

You could order it from ebay, this is what I did.
I ordered the 820/6GB/64Gb variant straight from the ASUS store on Amazon. It comes with US warranty but the expected ship date isn't until Nov 22.

I did that too... I am thinking of ordering it from bhphotovideo.com which says shipping on Nov 10, or Newegg which says Nov 1. I like Amazon because of ease of returns in case something is wrong...

Front glass broken

Hi there,
today I dropped my phone on the street and the front glass got broken. The phone is still fully working. Touchscreen and everything else works without problems.
A couple of months ago I changed the front glass of a Samsung Galaxy S4 with all the necessary stuff, e.g. loca glue. For the first trial the result was acceptable. No reading the other threads:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3522863
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3592043
most of the posters don't recommend the replacement of the front glass. On ebay I can find both only the frontglass (about 10€) and the full suited display (about 135€). If I take an offer from china, the price would lower to 65€. Another option would be to send the phone to Oneplus and let those guys repair it.
Now the decisions I have to made:
Just buying the front glass: Would be an option, if it is the same difficulty like the Samsung phones. But I've found only one Youtube Tutorial. At 1:45 he puts something on the screen, but not sure if it's clue or just something to clean.
Buying a display from China: for about 65€ would be also ok. This can take up to 6 weeks of shipping. And in some forums I've read the quality should be much lower than the original parts from Oneplus. Does anyone have any experience about this?
Sending to Oneplus ist the last option. But this depends on the price. I opened a ticket and now I'm waiting for their offer.
What would you recommend? Has anybody changed the frontglass and can tell me about the success?

Open the ticket mate. No fuss. You'll get your device going in maximum 2 weeks. I tried replacing the glass myself and failed, I cracked the screen half way through...
Buying from eBay... Idk, but if people say they're not original, why Risk? Then again there's the struggle of doing it yourself.
The cheapest and safest is to send it to ONEPLUS.
Cheers

I have replaced hundreds of screens in devices and for the most part it is cheaper and far easier then anything else.
Im about to replace my USB port myself as soon as my tool kit gets here on Monday.
I would never send a device to the OEM to be fixed. It will cost you twice as much plus the time without a device is just stupid.
I have always trusted these people with all the stuff I need to repair. Never trust some random Youtube video.

Got an answer from Oneplus:
Screen: EUR 57.20
Fingerprint Sensor: EUR 12.60
Labor: EUR 18.50
Vat: 23%
Total: EUR 108.61
Not sure, if there are any shippig costs to be added.

57 Euros doesn't sound bad actually especially if it's the regular screen.

What? It may suck to send your device away but why are you saying they charge you twice as much? That's misinformation. I sent mine and it only cost 80£ (labour and shipping included). Where can you buy an original display for 80 quid? Even the Knock offs from eBay cost more than that.

Yep! Not gonna pay $400 to repair a device that is literally $100 something on Ebay or Swappa, and I am definitely not going to pay $400 for a device that is guaranteed going to bootloop again in only a years time. So I spent $300 and bought a new OP3. Originally got the V10 because as someone coming from IOS, I automatically thought all Android phones could be unlocked and rooted with ease, with some o them sweet custom ROMs. This guy didn't do his research and ended up with using LG's, horrible, horrible (I cannot stress this enough) software. Not to mention the extra thick layer of AT&T bloat behind it. I don't really care about the hardware in a phone, as long as its good enough to have the software run good.

I hear you there. I had a g2 for a while. Then moved to the nexus but the 6 had issues dealing with the cold. So got the 1+3 for a steal from a dev. To be honest. I wanted to hate it because the CEO is an idiot. But other then some crappy BT issues when on a weak wifi connection. (licensing issues I'm sure) and the fact it won't work with my smart watch. I really can't complain about about.
I replaced my Motherboard and Battery by sending it to Oneplus. I do live in the EU so that could be a big difference. But a DHL driver picked it up on Monday. And I got it back the same week on Friday fully repaired without additional costs. A screen replacement here costs about €100 which is not expensive at all.. The problem mainly is that original parts are very rare and mostly fake.
