I have searched multiple times and can find many thread on this subject but I am lost.
I have a SIII SGH-I747M (Bell). It is rooted with CWM 6.0.3.6. I was getting Status 7 error when attempting to put Cyanogen MOD 10.1. I attempted to update the CWM and found about that the available systems had been S3 metrPC. I am not sure what I should do now and am completely lost. I tried to install a flashable CWM but was getting the same Status 7 Error. I am not sure if I should remove CWM (not sure how to) and install Team Win Recovery project. any help would be appreciated?

I had the same problem and spent a good amount of time this weekend troubleshooting.

You basically need to update your phone's bootloader. There are a lot of threads about this subject if you dig.
Unlocking, rooting and flashing Custom recovery & custom ROM (S III SGH-I747M)
After few days of working on this project I can summarize what I have done, though a few issues remained for me. I summarize them here so one can follow.
This is a for a Samsung S III - SGH-I747(M). I believe one can follow through by using the appropriate files for his/her own device. Make sure to read the original thread thoroughly (even multiple time)
THIS IS DANGEROUS AND MIGHT DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
1- Back up your system according to STEP 1 on this post.
2- Follow the post by OWL74 to unlock your device. This worked only on Jelly bean 4.1.1 so I need to flash Stock ROM 4.1.1 by ODIN. I found the appropriate stock ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/. You can follow Step "3" and "4" on post to do that. If you have a different stock recovery (like CWM or TWRP) start from step "2". Make sure to wipe your device according to STEP 5A on this post before flashing a ROM.
3- Root your device according to STEP 2 on this post.
4- I had used CWM on my SII device but this time it messed up my SIII SGH-I747 becuase there was no update for that particular device.
Instead I used TWRP. I browsed their website and used the closes match to my device which was galaxy SIII - AT&T (I have Samsung Galaxy SIII - from Bell.) and used the ODIN flashable .tar file.
5- Follow STEP 5A, STEP 5B to flash your ROM. I had problem flashing Cyanogen MOD so I chose AOKP and it went smoothly.
Many Thanks go to xBeerdroiDx, doovd, owl74, meanhacker, mrRobinson, <:GeeK:>. Their detailed explanation was very helpful.

Thank you. I followed a few other threads (summarized above). I managed to get AOKP installed but I still have some other problem getting Cyanogen MOD flashing. At this time I will stick with AOKP.
Hey all,
I have read all over the place on how to get this working but I honestly get more confused the more I read. I wanted to switch to another OS since my phone was starting to become bogged down (too many pictures, videos, old files, etc etc etc; My phone is my work tool since I'm a field sales engineer)
So I went ahead and rooted it with ODIN 3 v1.85 and I317-UCUBMK6.tar.md5. I also installed TWRP although I have no clue which version it is. I suppose it's the latest one. My bootloader is LJ2.
I always do the full swipe and a NANDROID back up. However, when I flash a custom ROM, I always end up stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note II screen. It won't go.
I have tried to install the following ROM's:
DN3 - Always says "Failed" when I try to flash, even when following instructions of reboot recovery and flash again.
JEDI X 20 - Go through the entire aroma installer - it installs - asks for reboot - when rebooting, stuck as Samsung Galaxy Note 2 screen
and it pretty much happens with all of them. I have decided to back to stock (because I was a retard and accidentally deleted my NANDROID backup) and now I find my WIFI is broken.
I pretty sure this has all been discussed in various threads but I rather bring it all into one so that all that are having the same issue as me (I read a lot of people complaining about this issue with very scattered replies) can have a single thread that addresses how to fix this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks man. That post brought a lot to light. So I have the MK6 firmware but the LJ2 bootloader. I'll try doing what Zen Arcade says there but unfortunately I cant download his files. The website he's hosting the files from has severe lag and the files stop downloading.
I'll get back to you on how this goes once I'm able to download them.

Finally downloaded it. Installed it and got that particular operating system working. I will try to get some customs roms installed. Thanks for the help man!
Hey guys!
I know the title of my new thread is probably something that's already been covered, but I feel my case is somewhat... special.
I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III that I got out a few days ago for my friend to use, and I decided the ole TouchWiz wasn't cutting it speed-wise. So, I tried CyanogenMod Installer to quickly and easily install CyanogenMod. While the beginning process went well, the end was a bit different than what was supposed to happen. At the end of the install, when the Installer said "Congrats!", my phone didn't boot up into CyanogenMod. It asked a few question that required me to either use the physical keys or touch to select, though the menu looked just like Recovery Mode with the stock ROM. It asked me weird questions, like "ROOT might need repairing. Repair now?". I just said no to all of them, and the phone booted straight into stock. I tried the Installer several more times after a fresh wipe on the phone, but to no avail. I then went online to research any easier root methods that I could use with this phone, and came across KingoRoot. It rooted my phone perfectly fine! I then tried to flash a custom ROM using ROM Manager from the Play Store, but it said I needed a recovery, and tried to flash one, but it didn't work. By this point, I was tired of fighting an obviously loosing battle, so I hooked it up to Kies to do a complete fresh install, no root. It went fine, until Kies was in the middle of installing the software...
... and puts my phone into Emergency Mode.
I've figured out that it can't boot into Recovery Mode or any OS, but it could boot into download mode. I tried Emergency firmware recovery via Kies, but it didn't work. I also tried re-flashing stock OS using Odin, with a FAIL! message each time.
Can this be fixed? I'm running out of options here. Thanks.
What bootloader or Samsung ROM version was on your phone?
Download the latest tar.md5 version of Philz Touch recovery from here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/
Download the latest cm11 for the d2lte from here: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=d2lte. Save cm11 to an external SD card.
Download the Gapps from here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps. Save the Gapps file to the external SD card. Place the SD card into the phone.
Boot the phone into download mode, uncheck everything in Odin except f.reset time. Connect the phone and flash Philz. When you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove the USB cable, remove the battery, replace the battery, boot into recovery, wipe data, cache, system, and Dalvik. Flash CM11, flash Gapps, boot phone.
I hope you get this solved, I personly have never seen this mode

It worked!
Thank you. I was getting really worried, but now it runs perfectly!
Sorry this respose was so late. I've been busy.
Which method worked? Let us know because it may benefit other users.
The exact method you posted. I did try the d2att Cyanogenmod version, but only d2lte worked.

Before unification, there were separate builds for the ATT s3 (d2att) and Bell s3 (d2can). Unified builds for both phone versions are now developed under the d2lte label.
Oh, okay. That explains why d2att didn't work with my AT&T device, lol. I just assumed you were thinking of another build when you were typing the first response, so I just tried d2att first, only to realize that d2lte was the appropriate file.

I don't have a d2att, I used to have the Bell version of the s3 (d2can). I haven't had an s3 for over 18 months!
I recommended the d2att hoping it would work on your phone.
Wow! I got my S3 as a Christmas gift of 2012. I use an iPhone now (gasp - iPhone user on XDA?!) but I sometimes dust off some of my older electronics for random purposes. I live in the U.S., so all my phones and electronics are highly subsidized, bloated, branded, and locked to whatever carrier/manufacturer. But I sure do miss my Galaxy. I made myself try an iPhone, and the experience just wasn't as exciting. The iPhone isn't loaded with carrier "goodies", which I like, but I just miss the experience. I just miss the old days.
I also had an iPhone 6 for a few days and didn't find it to my liking. I prefer the ability to customize the look of my ROM; however, apps on the iPhone just work, unlike some of the Play store apps due to several subtle variations of the OS.
I like the stability of the iPhone, but I love the customization, design elements, and nifty features of Android. Oh, and how could I ever forget my wonderful back and menu keys? But both do have their drawbacks. I just wish there was an OS that just worked, but could be personalized. But that'd be asking for world peace, too.

The first link doesn't seem to work any more? Is there a new site to download Philz Recovery? Thanks.

Oh, really? I just thought it had a timestamp or something. My apologies. I clicked that link forever ago, but I think I still have the file. I can put it on a file sharing website later today. I'll share the link later.
You could also install the touch version of cwm from here: https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
I think I'm screwed. I'm in a Cyrogenmod boot loop and nothing seems to work. I flash recoveries with Odin but it just goes back to the Cyrogenmod boot loop.

That doesn't sound good. Can it boot into Recovery or Download mode?
I can get to download mode but my computer doesn't see it.
Hey All!
I have this very interesting problem with my SGH-T989D.
I have for years been installing customs ROMs unto my phone. The last ROM I used was CM11 20141201 Sultan Hercules, with the provided GApps. This was installed using CWM 6.0.4.3. I ran this for months with no issues. Earlier this week, I decided I would try something else. I rebooted and went into CWM recovery and did a few things first. I went and Fixed permissions, and formatted various partitions, and also did a factory reset/wipe of the device. Now when I fixed permissions the time it took seemed odd too me. Like almost a minute, and since then I have been having install issues like crazy. So, I basically ended up using ODIN 1.85 to flash a stock ROM I had from T-Mobile. Which seemed to work fine. When i was satisfied the phone was functioning properly, I then proceeded to install CWM 6.0.4.3 using ODIN. It flashed successfully, and it rebooted my device. However, it brought me to the ODIN emergency download window. where it tells you to plug in your phone to the pc and use KIES to recover to the device. Ok, fine I thought to myself, I'll try that. Now KIES doesn't recognize my device. It's definitely not a driver issue because it used to work fine before these problems. I am assuming it has something to do with the firmware counter on my device. Since it says it's at 6 now, even though it's an official ROM. I have also tried using Lorains thread to re-partition the internal memory using the his unmodified PIT file. But Odin crashes at the SET PARTITION screen when trying to flash it So, honestly I'm at a dead end as to what's going on with my device at the moment. Even when I try to flash an early stock version of a Telus ROM, it just keeps going back to emerg ODIN screen, even though ODIN flashes successfully.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me? If you require more information I will do my best to answer.
Thanks a million in advance.

I think you might have to re-partition your phone. Sultan's ROMs partition your phone a certain way and there is a fix for your phone somewhere on here to allow you to install regular types of custom roms.
It's been years since I've installed a custom ROM, so I'm rusty on the process and trying not to brick my phone. I have a Verizon Galaxy S5 running OptimalROM 13.1, and I want to upgrade to LineageOS (KLTE) 14.1. I went to this page and tried to follow the instructions:
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/klte/install
However, it gave me errors just trying to prepare for the install using Heimdall, at step 5 where you're supposed to enter "heimdall print-pit". It tries to download something and fails. I don't have my usual assortment of microUSB cables so it is possible the one I'm using is suspect. It also occurs to me that the instructions could be assuming I'm upgrading from stock rather than another custom ROM.
Like I said, it's been ages since I've tried doing this, so I appreciate the help on these newbie-looking questions.
TIA
