I didn't find a complete list of apps that are installed by default in CyanogenMod 12. The reason I ask is if it still possible to go without gapps. In older CM versions there used to be a calendar, file manager, keyboard and other apps which you need daily. But it seems that all these apps are now "google-ified" and only available in the play store
Can you tell me which apps are installed by default?

Hey,
I've switched recently from Oxygen 2.01 to CM7 RC2. I did a full wipe (factory reset/cache). Then I installed the Google Apps and had the problem that I couldn't download from the Google Market. I reflashed the Google Apps (gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip) and now I could download from market and had apps like Google Maps.
My problem now is: I can't use Google Mail. The Market says that it is already installed on my device but it's not displayed anywhere on the phone. Neither can I choose it with the ADW launcher nor can I see the app in the settings menu of Android. I already cleared my cache again and reflashed a third time the Google Apps.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Or does someone know how I get to the screen where I can choose which Apps from the Google Apps packet I'd like to install ?
reflash is your best bet
If the market is saying its installed, can you uninstall via the market. Then install it again.

Can't uninstall via Market. I will try to reflash CM7.
Ok! For installation of the CM7, I normally do is wipe, install CM7, boot for the first time, don't install gapps just yet. Enter settings and enable your wifi connection. Now boot to recovery then flash the lastest gapps zip, reboot the phone and should have the apps and screen to choose which apps to install from the market. Well! It happens for the first time you use the market app of course.
That how I do things, hope it will help your situation somehow.
Now I've got Gmail installed. But I had to download the .apk file. Couldn't install it through the market.
Thread can be closed. Thanks to everyone.
Just to let you know, the gapps zip file doesn't include any market apps. It only includes the Market (vending.apk) and the Google Account Sync setup. Everything that is Google you need to get from the market.
You could of tried to have used the web market as well to install it. But seems like you didn't fully wipe it or something messed up.
I fully wiped my device twice. Market said that it was already installed but it wasn't.
Hi ekwinoks
I had promblems with the google mail installation. I found out that the Google-Mail app is not available on the german market. So i used the Market unlocker app to download the mail app.

Hmmmm very weird indeed. Did you try the web market?
I changed my Bell P930 from rooted ICS to CM 10.1 RC2 but quickly discovered it didn't include any Google apps. I really don't care about most of the Google apps, but I'd definitely like to have Google Play and Maps. I went to the Google Play website but didn't see Google Play as an option as an app to install. Additionally, I didn't find it as easy to add on accounts besides Exchange or email accounts. Is this just what you get or is there an easy way to make it a little bit more like the Android experience I'm used to?
In the meantime, I've restored my CWM backup. I'm not sure what I'm gaining by switching if I lose the ability to easily install apps on my smartphone or sync with my Gmail and FB accounts.
Hoping for a real JB release from LG/Bell but doubting that will ever come!
Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I will give this a shot.
cyanogenmod comes with no bloatware so you have to install even google apps if you want them, the link is already there just being clear that it is normal for them not to be there and you are suposed to install them on first install but u dont need to reinstall when updating CM
Before I start, I would like to say that i am aware some apps just wont work as a system app.
I recently rooted my Samsung Tab 3 7.0 lite and more recently have flashed a debloated/deodexed/rooted ROM onto it using TWRP. I am now in the process of modifying the ROM, having uninstalled a few apps such as TouchWiz, Video Player, and samsung keyboard, and then installing Nova Launhcer, VLC, and Google Keyboard.
however my problem lies with the Google keyboard, I had to move it back to the /data/app directory after finding that it does not run when in the /system/app directory. All of my other apps work fine under system and the launcher has no problems either.
Are there ways to configure apps to not be removed even if I were to do a factory reset on my custom ROM? This would be very helpful for me.
Google keyboard wont be working as a system app i think you can try using gapps nano package or make a flashable zip of Google keyboard(i personally tried this)

Hi everyone
I have got a Samsung Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T520) and it unfortunately stopped updating due to it been so old and was left behind on android KitKat 4.4.
So I decided to root it and download the lineage update to get android 7.1.2 custom ROM on it and give it a bit of life instead of never been used because it's slow and blotchy.
When I download the ROM everything worked really well, moment installed Gapps it when pear shaped. I was met with "android is starting" message stopping me from do anything but go on settings through notifications bar and it made my keyboard disappear.
So I just flashed the lineage ROM back to standard without Gapps. I have tried most of the Gapps packages that they make and I get the same thing every time with the missing keyboard.
My real question is can build a set of google apps through apk. I have tried installing google play, google play services and google play frame something (can't remember the last one) all of them either don't work or crash and just not stop being up a message saying each one of them isn't working.....what apps do need to install or flash to build up my own set of google apps without using Gapps
(Just some notes at the end to help, I rooted using root genius, my custom boot is TWRP, I installed TWRP via odin and lineage seems to be the only ROM that does a android 7 for my device, the apps I want working are google play store, google app, google maps, google assistant (if possible), gmail and maybe calender. The rest of them are on my non rooted s7e so don't need them on the tablet.)
Hope someone can help

Thanks.
In the end I just picked and tried flashing different Gapps packages, when a package I tried wouldn't work I just flashed installed the original lineage 14.1 ROM, to wipe the Gapps package....after trying about 4 different packages from Gapps I think the micro package worked.
Just can't get android assistant to work now, do anyone have any ideas???

I am using an LG V20, recently I have successfully installed Lineage OS 18.1.
I'm scared of the amount of junk apps (ads, useless, third-party,...) that are available inside LG's firmware (and you can't remove them without root - but you can only root on Android 7), so I decided to try another OS.
After installing Lineage OS the first thing I noticed is that I can't customize the buttons on navigation bar, I tried searching google for custom instructions but most of them are instructions for the old version of Lineage OS, I can't find the custom buttons on navigation bar on this latest version (or maybe I'm wrong?). Please help me?
I have used System App Remover to see all system apps, there are more than 200+ system apps (including GApps), I've looked a few times, only a few apps can guess the function. functionality, or only a few app packages can be recognized (less than 80 apps in total are recognisable and searchable on Google). I want to ask which system apps can be safely deleted?
I tried flashing the LOSdiet file and android debloat script with TWRP although the flash was successful BUT NO apps was removed.
UPDATE: I feel that installing the whole GApps is really unnecessary as Google Play Store and Google Play Services can be downloaded on Google, just 2 apps Google Partner Setup and Google Services Framework are enough. If in the firmware file these 2 applications are available, I think installing GApps is not necessary.
Thanks.

Installing GApps is really not necessary. But in that case you will miss many features. Including play store. But you can install f-droid and aurora store.
LineageOS is not meant to torture you with bloatware. Even if you don't use the preinstalled apps, they will do no harm.
And you can debloat unrooted stock ROM with adb.

Yes, but it has too many deprecated apps, I am discussing on reddit, hope they remove them in next update.
