Bluetooth and Car (Weird Issue) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

First off, my other devices (rooted LG G3, rooted Nexus 5) have no problems so I'm 99% certain it's a phone issue.
Phone: AT&T Galaxy Note 5
Car: 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z51
Music Player on phone: PowerAMP
Problem: If I'm listening to another source on the car (XM, FM radio, etc.) and the Note 5 gets a notification (SMS, email, etc.) the car's head unit will switch to bluetooth audio and start playing music. This is getting rather annoying that I can't listen to another source without the phone wanting to hijack every time a notification alert comes through.
Previous devices, like I said, if an alert comes in the car ignores it and keeps playing whatever I was using.
Thoughts?

I also have the AT&T Note 5 and I'm not having that issue in my 2012 Ford Focus. I'm fact, I haven't had a single Bluetooth issue with this phone.
Have you tried using the stock music player to see what happens?

I'll have to give it a try later. I've used this exact setup (PowerAMP) for years with my G3 and Nexus 5 and previous phones in multiple other vehicles and never an issue. Any idea what settings to check?

Nosferatu, I have the same car as you and the issue I've had on two different Corvettes is that the Bluetooth connects/disconnects every few minutes. It doesn't happen on all cars though. Just on some. 2008 Audi, 2010 Acura, worked fine. 2013 Jeep, 2014 Mazda, and 2015/16 Corvette it connects/disconnects. AT&T and Samsung have been useless in figuring this out.

Actually to get it fixed all I did was delete the pairing and then repaired the phone and voila no issue.

[Q] Bluetooth pairing issues

Hey guys,
Just seeing if anyone else has had this problem or can think of a solution that might work. I have 11 Audi S4 with the factory nav and Bluetooth, my wife has a 15 Audi Q3. We both came from Galaxy S4's and this was never a problem. Basically when we pair them to the cars the phone thinks it's a headset so it gives me the volume warnings and such and also does not transmit meta data from Rdio, Spotify, or Google Play Music. It also does this with a few of my speakers that have displays. I have done a full factory reset on the phone and nothing. Also tested in a 08 subaru wrx and same results. Hopefully someone has some thoughts or has had the same issue.
Thanks,
Lunchbox
interesting... I have 2 Fords- a '12 Focus & a '14 Explorer, both with the Sync feature... I have paired my Note 4 to both of them with no issues and they both see it as a phone and treat it as such.
The Note 4 does use a newer BT stack right? v4.1 is newer than what was on the Galaxy S4 I think.
updates for your gear maybe? It's tough cause you are seeing it across a few different devices.
Ya I was thinking the same seeing how that is much newer. I do wonder however why the controls don't work at all that is the only really strange part got me.
I'm having problems also with my 2014 A6, Note 4 connects but any audio played from any source skips alot, phone calls seem to be working normal.
note 4 bluetooth issues
I am having issues with the bluetooth on my Porsche PCM when on calls it sounds like there is a bunch of paddles prattling for a few seconds every 10 t0 20 seconds and then the call will sometimes drop. Any ideas?

Bluetooth connection problems in car

My Note connects to my car (2014 Nissan Altima) but it does not work properly.
My Galaxy S3 worked perfectly fine. The music played, titles of songs showed, calling and phone book features worked, and connected every time automatically. Now it is a completely different story with the Note 4. At first the only problem was that the titles or any information about the song did not show up on the dash. But now I can't even make a call. Even if I manually go into my phone and call someone I can't hear them and they can't hear me. The only thing that works is the music plays through the speakers.
Is anyone else having this problem or, most importantly, know a solution?
I posted about this too, I have the exact same problem in 3 different cars from 2008 all the way to 2015 and everyone says to try and update the cars firmware for the new bluetooth but that did not help. The funny thing is, I had it working fine for a bit then out of the blue it just stopped and now the phone acts like my stereo is a bluetooth headset.

I am having the same issue with my Note 4. My truck has the Parrot MKI9200 bluetooth. With my Note 2 and my wife's S5 i can make a receive calls with no problem. With my Note 4 I can play music over bluetooth, but if I try to make or receive a call I can't hear the person on the other end and they cannot hear me. With one exception. I have found that if I was listening to music over bluetooth then I can make/receive calls with no issues, as long as I let the phone app stop the music playback.
It is driving me crazy.

So I think I may have found a work around. This morning I went into the bluetooth settings on my phone and I unchecked the Call Audio box and the Media Audio box for my truck. I exited settings. Then went back to settings and checked the boxes. After that my bluetooth worked perfectly for calls and media.
Suckage...

Mine worked with this work around one time. Then back to the old situation. I have a Note 4 and am driving a 2014 Nissan Altima. I'm hoping that with the new Lollipop 5.0 update coming out to the Note 4 that it will be resolved. We shall see. It's very annoying. My old S4 worked flawlessly in my car.
I have constant pairing issues with my 2012 elantra.

I have the same pairing issues in my 2011 Kia Soul - it will pair fine and work - until I shut the car. Then it is a constant pairing failed. If I stop and unpair and re-pair it works again - until I shut the car.
Check under Bluetooth for your car, hit the settings icon next to it, is call and media checked?

Exactly the same issue here. Maybe there is a firmware issue that can be addressed by the dealership.

Easy fix for car Bluetooth issues.
Iny car I would repeatedly get pairing failed issues and would have to unpaid/pair every time I got in the car....
I disabled smart remote and have not had one issue since.

have had the same problem intermittently on my Ford Edge with My Sync connects fine once then the next time connects but wont answer calls or volume drops, only solution i have found is to unpair the device forget it and start over (this happened with my S5 on android 4.4.4 as well)
To disable it... Just long press the icon (in the app tray) and drag it to the top... There is an option I believe 3rd from left that allows you to disable it....I disable all the bloatware I don't use.... I didn't disable smart remote thinking I would use it....
How did I figure out that would work.... I have no clue... But I was having the pairing failed every single time I got in the car... Had to unpair and remove device every time.... After disabling... Haven't had an issue once...

new Ford Edge and same thing paired and worked once using this fix then back to same ol' crap.
I too tried this method of disabling the smart remote but did not have any favorable results. I have tried to sync my phone to two different vehicles and will not even sync one time. Tried on a Ford Sync system and on a 2013 Altima with no success. This is the oh problem I have had with this phone and it is driving me nuts! If any good fixes are found please post for those of us who are having this vehicle Bluetooth problems. Take care.
I also disabled smart remote. After a couple of days it started giving me issues. I have a 2012 Hyundai elantra.

Nissan 370Z, no bluetooth connection issues with me. Every once in a while after start up, the initial song title doesnt show on the screen, but once it goes to the next track it's fine. Note 3 never had that issue.

[Q]Streaming music via bluetooth not displaying track information?

I use Google Music to stream music in my car (2013 Nissan Altima), but this issue is occurring regardless of what streaming service I use. I upgraded from an LG G3, and when streaming, my car's stereo would display track information. After switching to the G4, it will still stream the music perfectly fine, but it is not displaying the track info. To verify it wasn't an issue with either just my phone, or the car stereo, yesterday I connected a friends G4, and it wouldn't display the info. But when connecting another friends G3, it would display it fine. The G4's are of course on 5.1, and both my friends G3 and my old one were on 5.0. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
I have the same issue on my 13 VW GTI, came from the m8 and it worked flawlessy with my car.

Yes. It automatically connects and starts playing as soon as I turn on the car.
Same here no output as far as metadata, track list etc

Same issue here too. Coming from Samsung S5 running 4.2. Worked flawlessly. After switching to the LG G4, Android 5.1 track information will not display when connected to car radio via bluetooth. Music still plays just fine, though.
I only tried with tunein and I did get info displayed.
I have a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and stream Google/Amazon Music and both are displaying track information.

My G4 won't automatically connect to my '14 Subaru WRX. The only way to get it to connect for me is to manually go into Bluetooth settings and select it. Even then, sometimes it takes 2-3 times for it to actually connect. Once I get it connected, it streams music fine, but doesn't display any track info. It's pretty annoying.
I did some research on this and found out people with the note 4 were having similar issues. Some suggesting it could be the difference in BT version between our phones and cars?
I have a pioneer fh-x700bt head unit and I'm having the same issue. Phone works like it should. All my call information is there, audio sounds great. Media also sounds great. Just not getting track info. I use Amazon music and iHeartRadio. Never had a problem with my htc one m7.

Mine is displaying track information, but seems to randomly freeze on a song, and then stop updating. Music plays fine, but the track info gets stuck. Mostly using Poweramp.
Never had any issues with my Note 3.

For the not re-connecting after upgrading to a G4, try adding the BT device (car) to the Smart Lock trusted devices list. Also, might also be good to try unparing the devices, re-paring and adding to the Smart Lock trusted devices list.
As far as BT streaming goes, I'm having sound quality issues with my G4. Regardless of what music app I use, BT streaming audio is distorted. Gain seems to be set very high. Posted it here.
Seems as though no one has figured out the song information display issue.
I hope this will get fixed, it's pretty annoying.

It really is. As silly as it may sound, the native bluetooth support on the stock stereo played a part in my decision when I decided to buy my car. My old car, I used a bluetooth receiver plugged into the aux port, but I really liked that I could use the steering wheel to change tracks (which I still can), and that it displayed song info with my new car.
I made a post on the Google support forums, but didn't get a response
Maybe we can make some noise about this to LG? It's not just a particular G4 model that isn't working. It's across the board.
here is thread with people having similar issues as us.

Bluetooth in Car Not Auto-Connecting

Is anyone else having issues with their 5x connecting to their car's bluetooth automatically (I drive a 2015 Subaru Forester)?
My Nexus 5 would always just automatically connect, but since I switched to the 5x I have to either connect to the car from the phone or vice versa.
I'm sure I could work something out with tasker or whatnot, but that feels to me as though it should not be necessary?
I have yet to get back in my car after pairing to my bluetooth adapter (I just paired this morning) but I will check later.
Do you have a list of saved or prioritized devices in the car? I wonder if the Forester bluetooth is trying to connect to your first device (Nexus 5) unsuccessfully.
I have a 2014 Ford Focus. The bluetooth will connect automatically, but I have noticed weirdness when placing calls. The car will take a while to initiate the call and then display an error saying "call cannot be completed". Then, 2 seconds later the call audio (ringing) will occur.
I am hoping that these are just some initial bluetooth issues that will be ironed out.
I had deleted my old device from the car's memory.
Another thing I am experiencing is that even if my phone IS connected, the calls are going through the device, and not my speakers.
It still pauses the music...
It could be either my car or the device. I've heard of other Subaru owners having issues with multiple devices in their car, just wasn't sure if it was a little of Column A and B. It seems likely enough it's a little bit of both.
No issues at all. I have a 2012 Dodge charger with the 8.4 Uconnect. This phone actually connects quicker than my S6 edge did and the sound is louder at max volume (on the phone) than the S6E. The only thing that doesn't work is the text messaging from the Uconnect, but overall I am very pleased.

My in-laws own a 2015 Forester so perhaps next time I see them I'll try to pair my 5X. May be a while before that happens though so don't hold your breath
2013 Honda Civic here (so cool, I know). I'm getting mixed results on it automatically connecting. Sometimes yes, but other times I need to connect manually. Yesterday, Bluetooth audio got really choppy in the car, and I had to restart in order to stabilize that again. Have not seen the choppiness issue with my other Bluetooth devices.

I had no problem with my Mazda 5 connecting to my Moto E on 4.4.4, but since the upgrade to 5.1 I now have to turn bluetooth off then back on every time I get in the car for it to connect. Also, the connection can drop. I tried deleting existing connection data from both car and phone, setting up from scratch, but it hasn't made any difference. Wish I could downgrade by phone's OS back to 4.4.4.
Might depend on the sound system. Reconnects to my 2013 VW Passat every time.

No issues in my Audi or aftermarket radio in the Subie... It sounds like you may not have calls being routed through the phone (based on your comment), maybe that is causing the connection issue? Something like only a phone connection is automatically connected (and the audio comes with it), but an audio connection is not?
I have a 2011 Mitsubishi Ralliart and i don't have any issues with my 5X auto connecting to the factory bluetooth system, my problem is the factory bluetooth is garbage since any time someone calls there is too much interference i can't hear what the other person is saying.

Exact same issue here but with a Kia. As soon as the phone "reacts" to a call being started on the headunit, the headunit says "call was hung up". As soon as the call is answered, it offers to be used for handsfree. It's as if the phone's "CallStatus" messages over bluetooth aren't correct
Subject crosstrek 2014, BlackBerry z10 never had an issue whatsoever, but since I got my 5x, I get half a connection (Bluetooth connects with no audio), with 6.0.1, no automatic connect... Blackberry's reputation may be downhill, but I sincerely miss its reliability and the hub...
Nexus 5X and 6P Uconnect 8.4 Grand Cherokee 2014
I recently started experiencing a similar issue.
I use my 6p for music and audio only, and my 5x for phone calls and sms.
About a week ago, they would stay connected as long as nothing was being streamed. However, as soon as I received a call on the 5X, the phone would lose BT connection to the system, and then connect back after about 30 seconds. It would do that throughout all of the calls, regardless of the length of each call. After the first 2 calls, I started streaming music from Google Play Music on my 6p, and the same thing would happen.
I removed Uconnect from both phones, and both phones from Uconnect. Paired them back again, and it is still doing the same thing.
I will try resetting the Uconnect to factory default later today and see if it has any positive effect, and will post my findings here.
If anyone else has a uconnect system with the same issue, please post it here, and we can try looking for a solution together.
Thank you,

Music controls over blue tooth to car stereos?

Since the Android 5.x update on my Note 3 and now the Note 7 Samsung did something to jack up the blue tooth stereo controls (so If I use apps like Media Monkey or Power Amp) that when connected to the car stereo, I cannot use the car stereo to forward, go back, etc through the songs in the play list.
Is there a fix for this, that probably is my biggest issue, I don't want to have to pick up the phone every time I want to change songs over blue tooth. Gotta keep eyes on the road......
I'm not sure how you're connecting. I have an Infiniti and I don't seem to be suffering this issue. It's compatible whether I do this through the phone or through my car's controls.

I am using a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X998. When the Note 3 came out with Android 4.x and connected to the head unit over bluetooth the album, song title, artist, etc call came over from the mp3 or flac files on the phone and I could use the kenwood back and forward buttons to move through the music on the phone. It stopped working when Android 5.x was pushed out to the phone. I talked to Kenwood about it and they said that they were not aware (but they are now they are aware of the fact that Samsung did something), like made their own new commands to send the information over blue tooth that were not part of the stock android os and that is why compatibility was lost.
I just want my text and controls back.

On my 2013 Kia optima w/ navi I do not get media audio so only BT that works is the phone. It will show the first song sometimes on pandora but never will update after that. All audio always comes from phone. I can change songs from the stereo but that's it. Totally useless. Works fine in my other cars and my BT radio in my garage so it's a problem w/ my Kia but WTF?? My note 3 and a note 5 work just fine. Very disappointing.

Note 3, edge and this N7 have all played nicely with the car, admittedly it's pretty basic OEM BT integration. Vehicle can control the phone no worries, though.
The only time I have this problem is when my smartwatch tries to take over the controls.
