I am on a quest for the perfect treadmill computing platform (so I'm not sitting on my arse ALL day), so I can stay connected and work while I exercise. Currently I use the HTC Advantage, bluetooth keyboard, external display optional.
This would be even better with an "air" mouse- like the gyrate (http://archive.gamespy.com/hardware/march03/pv2/index3.shtml) or new logitech (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/3443&cl=us,enhttp://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/3443&cl=us,en).
Anyone know if either of these, something similar, or anything else non-surface-dependent (trackball?) can run on Windows Mobile?
thanks in advance.

Since I'm a consultant specialized in custom sulution, I would recomend you looking into the iGo Stowaway BT Mouse (http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=147202)...
whitch you could "easely" make into a trackball by turning it upside down and attach a rubberball.. or something.
=)
What a project! Have you got any photos?
what type of pointing device is irelevant tackball, mouse ........
the pda only see the driver it's transparent to it what is feeding the driver with directions

Hum? I'm sorry, didn't quite got what you meant by that? - I've tried to connect other bluetooth mouses with the ppc-driver without success..
@foaf: I don't know if you were talking about me, but I've never done this myself (yet anyway).. the thought about a upsidedown optical mouse firrst surficed when a client wanted something simular to the "virtusphere" ( http://www.virtusphere.com/ ) for an exhibit.. but the client dropped before I had a chance to try my idea...

Hey Folks,
I'm using the Desire HD with the Cyanogen Mod 7 (latest Version from 2 Days ago).
Now I connected via Menu (Wireless & Networks --> Bluetooth) a simple "noname" Bluetooth Mouse and the pairing did happen. I used "0000" as Pairing-Code and the Desire gives me the Message "Connected with HID-Device" (or something like that, I use the german language).
Now I should see a Mousearrow or something should happen if I scroll or press a Button.
But nothing happens.
The Mouse itselft works properly - I tried it in Windows7 and Suse-Linux.
I also tried the App BlueInput (latest and some previous versions) but there its the same. I get connected properly but it wont work.
Now I'm hopefully waiting for your ideas (and I hope there are some)
Thanks in advance!
Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, you want to use a mouse to control your handset? Where the handset is directly in front of you?
I dont know if Android supports this. If you wish to remotely control your handset try WebKey from the market.

Well, there is also a possibility to make use of a WiiMote...
I see this more as a proof of concept.
What about the Motorola Atrix within its "to-Netbook-conversation-Docking"?
Internal Keyboard + BT Mouse = playable Quake3 on Android
Err bubble to bursting station, you can use a wiimote on a DHD quite easily. You can even do it with Apps available from the market place, hey you can even use the classic controller and nunchuck with it.
I have used it (not entirely successfully) to play N64 games on an emulator
At first : Thanks for your responses!

Yes, I want to control my Desire HD with a mouse when I stand next to it. If I wouldn't, I wouldn't have asked for it
The thing is that I need a Mousewheel - or at least something that can emulate one.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the WiiControl doesn't have such a feature.
What I found out is, that the Cyanogen 7 doesn't support Mouseweel-Actions.
I installed the latest 6.1 - et voilla - I get a Cursor and the Mousewheel works.
But unfortunately it doesn't work if I use it in a Flashmovie with the WebKit-Browser.
It seems that the Events are not tunneled into the Flashapp.
Someone got an idea for a workaround?
Ps: I like the idea of playing Quake3 on my Desire - but I prefer Quake1
Is there a way of using the mousewheel in a self-written application!?
That could also solve my problem
I mean, in the Cyanomod I can scroll around through lists an so on. There must be a way! (hopefully)

What exactly did You install? I play Quake 3 with a friend of mine in my university and I would sooo own him with a BT mouse!!!
good evening xda.

My problem is as following:
OTG on an unlocked, rooted LT28h w/ fxp 214 (cm10) works just fine for mouse, HDD or keyboard.
now my question is how can one make a MIDI controller (not keyboard!) control apps like virtual dj on my device?
to be specific, I'm using a hercules mp3e2 controller for mobile use, and it would be GREAT if i could use it on my mobile.
the mp3e2 is being recognized as such device, but the apps i'd like to use with it don't understand it.
is it as easy as i hope (using some inbetween-app for translating the commands)
or as hard as i fear (need to modify the application i'd like to use itself) ?

I figured I would compile relevant questions and information in this thread:
Questions:
Is there Micro HDMI out? Yes
Is there GPS? No
Does the MicroSD work? Yes, up to 64GB.
Can I connect an external hard drive using the OTG cable? Yes, I use it regularly to transfer video files from my WD 2TB Passport.
What is the available space on Windows/Android? 7GB Free on Windows, 4GB free on Android.
I can't find the shortcut in Windows to switch back to Android! Go to C:\Program Files\Insyde and create a shortcut of the EXE file
My system time keeps changing with I switch between Windows/Android?

Chuwi Vi8 Questions?
Thank you very muchfor the great review zijin_cheng
I have some questions about this great tablet, i would really appreciated if you can answer
what is the available free space in Windows and Android partitions?
Is it possible to remove Android partition and extending Windows partition?
Is there any recovery partition, if yes, how much space is allocated by recovery?
Is it possible to install windows 10 to this tablet?
Is it possible to use WIMBOOT method for more free space?

No problem!
- It started with about 7GB free on Windows, and 4GB free on Android. 13GB total is allocated to the C:\ drive on Windows, and 7GB total for the Android partition.
- At the moment no, but I'm quite sure some resourceful XDAer will figure out a way.
- Yes, its 7GB (5.43GB + 1GB)
- Yes, but I believe that it will be more difficult due to the dual boot nature of this tablet
- I'm not sure, I haven't tried. However, I followed this guide to get more free space (as I also have the Asus T100)
Thank you very much
Nice cross-post from RFD, and great review!!
The Chuwi (and most other tablets like this) use WIMBOOT, where the recovery partition *is* the OS drive, and and changes and patches get saved to the C: to preserve the installation for recovery when needed.
There have been multiple successful attempts to install Windows 10, you need an OTG adapter so you can use a USB stick and a mouse/keyboard. General consensus is it works well, but probably best to wait for a later or full release version. A Google search will find you instructions though if you're looking to
do it immediately.
As for partition removal, I haven't really seen it discussed, but I'm sure there's a utility to nuke the unwanted partitions. Though you could just order the single OS version that only comes with Windows, but that model is missing the microHDMI.
Hello everybody,
just bought this tablet with dual boot. So in case if I want to reinstall the installed windows 8.1, how can I do it? After the reinstall, will the android system still be there?
Thanks
from singleboot to dualboot?
Hi! I also have this amazingly cheap tablet but I ordered it when the dualboot was not in stock.
Now I'm wondering if it is possible to actually make my windows 8.1 table into a dualboot with android.
I have downloaded android x86 and installed it on a partition but I just cant find out how to actually make the UEFI-bios boot from it. Also since I wasnt unable to boot from usb (no matter what settings I changed in the bios) I couldn't install the android system straight off the bootable usb so i installed it on another system and copied the contents to the new partition. I imagine that it wont work even if I actually succeed to make it boot from another partition.
Has anyone tried to install android as a second OS in this tablet? Please tell me how :S
Best regards
Matthew
The HDMI out on this unit, is it strictly mirror, or does it have the ability to show two separate Desktop?

Hey man, I'm believe so, but you have to make sure you choose the correct option when you go into the "factory reset" portion of the tablet itself.

Not sure how that could be done, sorry. Maybe you could try installing Insyde's dual boot switching software, they could have more info on how to do it.

So far all the videos of this tablet have only shown mirroring, no extended desktops, but I'm sure it can be done, if not with Windows maybe another piece of software.
Bluetooth keyboard on Chuwi Vi8
Hi guys, This a pretty silly questions, I wonder if anybody with this tablet has bought it whit the Chinese Bluetooth keyboard, and knows whether there is any way to use ESC and function buttons that appear in blue, on the upper keys. Using Fn+ any of these keys would do whatever but ESC or F1, F2, F3 etc. For instance, key 0... Fn+0 = Volume down, but not F10.
I have searched about this on the internet but haven't got any info.
Does anybody have the same issue? It'pretty frustrating when using excel on windows 8.1. I. I have the dual boot version whatsoever.
Cheers
Very good tablet, but last week I bought a Onda V919 3G Air, otherwise, I will buy this tablet.

Hey man I haven't bought the bluetooth keyboard with the Chuwi, but I've had problems with bluetooth keyboards in general as only basic keys work such as letters, shift, not even ctrl sometimes. Did the keyboard come with any software? Try to google the brand and see if there are any drivers.
And you're using excel on your Chuwi? Props! That's difficult!

Well, it doesn`t have a brand serial number or anything, I guess it is just generic hardware, it works very well, but anyways, maybe the ESC and Function buttons are fake.
In that case, there might be an app to reassign keys, I will check that.
And yes, using excel with chuwi, just to input lab data on the go, and analyse it with some charts, not a big deal.
I have this tablet and this is sick man its incredible that I have boot os on just one table this tablet would be perfect ithey would be with 64gb internal storage that of couse next gen will it have it . I really recommend this tablet hope some xda programer member open a tread and make custom rms and some root stuff hehehe the best 2015 130 dollar gadget XD
Decent enough for the price I paid.
Two gripes I do have, even so.
1) Screen expansion seems broken on Windows, if I turn it on, the tablet screen goes dark. Anyone managed to get both screens working at the same time?
2) It seems like USB OTG with simultaneous charging does not work - any chance to fix that?

I think the Chuwi Vi8 only supports screen mirroring, you'll need to find another piece of software
It's the USB OTG cable itself, you need one that supports both, something like this:

Anyone able to install Google Plus? Won't work for me.

dual boot
Hello. I Chuwi vi8 only with win 8. You can do dual boot OS? thanks
Blast. Just received my Nvidia Shield TV/PC 2017 16GB. It is in Chinese, only options when starting are Chinese, Taiwanese, English, then you have to register to a Chinese video company named iQiyi (I did), then it upgrades to version 6.1 (24.31.89.60) which still has all the Chinese [email protected], half of the interface is Chinese, no Google, etc.
Question:
1) Can I convert to an international version ? How ?
2) Do I need the public open source recovery image (e.g. 6.2.0) at https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source or the developer one at https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-developer-os-images ?
3) Do I just follow http://developer.download.nvidia.co...ATV_2017/6.2.0/HowTo-Flash-Recovery-Image.txt ?
4) Which USB OTG is appropriate for the 2017 version ? (there is no mini USB port)
5) Can I do anything else instead (as I might have to wait for days for an USB OTG cable) ? I.e. can I connect to the Nvidia Shield from an Android smartphone and adb/fastboot from there ?
Thanks
(also, please somebody move this to https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/help )
Hi.
Isn't the Chinese version supposed to be compatible with the Nintendo wii games?
And yeah I think you should be able to flash the normal version of the fw.
Yes, it should but I went with NVS for retro gaming and media playing.
I never managed to install (through Magisk) Kali on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone (complains about busybox), so I guess my only choice is to wait for that Male-Male USB cable to arrive, then try connecting/flashing with a computer

Hi,
Can you manage to port Nintendo games to international version ?
Thx.
I have to add that connecting to NVS through USB using my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 didn't work. After a struggle, I managed to install Kali NetHunter but "adb devices" does not return anything. Due to bad weather I will have to wait for that USB cable in order to connect from my computer, that's all I can do
@A.M.A.S
I haven't bought anything from iQiyi, since my goal of purchase was not about Nintendo. The interface is localised to Chinese anyway, and the content and payment options are for Chinese users. As far as I can tell, the Chinese version is being advertised as a device to buy/play Nintendo games. And that's what early buyers seem to do (judging from most comments), but China never had a culture for Computers and games back in the day (they were banned), so it doesn't surprise me that they only care/know about Nintendo and some boring 3D FPS stuff of the new millennium. Being an old-school guy from the 80s, my heart is elsewhere.
After the USB OTG arrived I was able to flash the international image (6.2.0) from Nvidia using my Mac. I had some trouble with vendor.img (hint: it needs to be in the same directory as the fastboot command) among other things (for hardware booting to bootloader using the controller buttons it is try-and-error, the entrance to recovery menu is rather unintuitive, etc) but all is well now. The hardware performance is good, the fan is not that bad (still wish there was a fanless case), the controller and remote DO feel a bit cheapish, Android TV and its apps ARE rather limited and rough at edges. I will probably keep it.
Mind if I ask where'd you buy it from? I'm thinking of getting a chinese one for myself.
The Chinese 6.1 image is up on Nvidia's download site, if you want to give it a try. I wouldn't flash the bootloader tho'.

@batoussai
I am in China for the time being, so I bought it locally.

I'm in the same situation like you. I tried to install the Google Apps on the chinese ROM but they keep crashing and the pop-up is annoying. So I'm ready to flash the international ROM.
Would you link me to the OTG cable? I can't seem to find the proper one on JD or Taobao.

Thanks! I succesfully updated it. With VPN directly on the router all the services work. Even though when you power on the box it still displays the chinese store logo, the rest is the international ROM. I am loving this box.
The only thing I couldn't manage to work is GeForce NOW. Heck, I think even in US it's not so easy to stream HD games. I could only get 540p at 30 fps
On the same note, I think anyone could try flashing the chinese ROM to the international box to try out those Nintendo games, but probably would need a VPN to a China server to make it work.

migmanson, how much do these boxes cost in RMB? I may need to get my mother-in-law to pick one up this week before she heads to the US.
Guys, thanks for sharing your experience. I planned to buy NVS (now I'm in China) but they (TaoBao bandits) wanted something like 1700-1800 RMB and 2 to 3 weeks for delivery and no guarantees at all, so I bought Chinese version (fair price 1499RMB, I found from private seller just unpacked for 1299RMB) - Replaced the firmware with 6.2.0 International version - all worked flawless, so - I can also confirm - no problem to upgrade Chinese version to International one. Bootloader was locked, after reinstall I lock the new one too. Thanks for that thread again!
anyone can read chinese.. try this apk i got from the firmware zip.

I have both international & Chinese version running in my home.
For the Chinese one, upgraded to the latest 6.3 version firmware. Install Google firmware enabler through external USB. Then you are all set with google play store.
Having tried flashing the Chinese version with international firmware. All work but Netflix app cannot be controlled properly by remote.
Mind if I ask how you got the US version to run under Chinese net? I'm about to set up the vpn on my router because I bought the US version of Nvidia shield. What vpn are you running on your router?
