Many of my contacts contain just one phone number, their mobile. Then WhatsApp identifies them and adds its own contact. These two contacts are merged and when viewing the contact I see only one number, as expected. However, apparently internally the G3 lists the contact as having 2 duplicate numbers. This confuses apps that try to automatically choose a default number to call (specifically, Conigri contacts widget). I can also see this in the quick contact popup. The contact shows with two entries of the same number. I can't work around this by choosing one of these as the default, because the contact details show just a single number. I tried to remove the number, which initially works as the WhatsApp number becomes the default, but then WhatsApp syncs, sees the contact no longer has a number and deletes its contact entry leaving me with a contact with no number.
Note that I previously had a Galaxy S5 and had no such problem there (so it is not a basic Android problem I guess).
I tried googling for the issue, but couldn't find it. How can I solve this?

Hi
Do I have a bug here or am I not doing something right?
I have my People contacts set up:
Only contacts with phone numbers: Off
Sim (0): Off
Google (1): Off
Phone (77): On
Facebook (140): Off
Then in each of my contacts I have linked the phone contacts to the Facebook accounts. All is fine, photos are displayed etc. For some of the contacts, their names are displayed like
Firstname Su
due to the length limitation of when I imported them from my old device, via the Sim. No problem, I think, you can go into the "Linked" screen, and change the drop down for "Select Contact Name" and select the Facebook name.
Now some time later I have noticed that some, not all, of my contacts have reverted back to the shorter "Phone" name.
I could edit each of these names to be equal to the Facebook name, but this was ok earlier?!
I got the same problem. I keep changing their names to their facebook names repeatedly
Yep seems to be a bug with the phone.
Thankfully it only seemed to happen with around 6 of my contacts, so I manually changed their 'phone' names to their full name too.
Thanks, I have emailed HTC Support.
Hi all, I have added the facebook facility to my desire and linked contacts to their fb accounts. However lloyds tsb sent me some details via text and it has been linked to a friends facebook account (despite not having them in my phone contacts) in my contacts list.
I've had exactly the same problem. I also had a text from Lloyds TSB a few days ago and it came up in my messages as being from a Facebook contact (which confused the hell out of my until I looked at the message details and realised it wasn't from this chap at all).
The same has just happened when I received a text from Mobile Fun saying that my Car Holder has just dispatched, the text said it was from the same contact.
Hi guys. A lot of people have found this bug. The first thing you need to do is check these friends contact details on Facebook. What I found when it happened to me was two of my Facebook contacts had "ask me" or "none of you business" in their profile under the Phone Number field. Sense UI imported this along with all their other details and so, you may not think they are in your phone contacts, they are saved with a phone number (which is just gibberish they entered in that field)
The only way I was able to solve it was to ask my contact to remove the field altogether from her profile, seeing as she didn't want to fill it out at all. I don't know why, but rather than leaving it blank people feel compelled to have some sort of silent protest at being asked in the first place and fill that field with fake numbers or random words.
The bug means when Sense picks up a message from an unknown source with a name where the phone number should be (in my case T-Mobile would send my allowance details and they would appear as T-Mobile) and then tries to find them in your phone book it attaches to the first contact it sees who also has text in their number field. I deleted a contact I wasn't really that keen on in the first place because of it.
I had a number of these in my phonebook - have just removed the Facebook contacts link until a fix is put in place.
"Facebook Account" widget, it’s incredibly useful, except it overwrites my contacts, for example.
I have a contact saved, with a mobile number, but my contact also has their number saved on their facebook profile.
So the number imported from facebook always begins with 44 and that’s the default (in the uk) and I can’t reply to any sms from these because it has to be either 07 or +44
I can’t delete the number imported from facebook or edit it, and it’s made itself the default number so if I want to text this contact, I have to start a new conversation every time.
Removing the Facebook Account widget solves this problem, but I don’t want to remove it, I just don’t want it to overwrite my phone numbers
is there any other way around this problem
I found this exact problem too, bit of a fatal bug if you ask me.
I didn't really find a solution per se. I just exported all my contacts from my old phone, then imported them into my google account.
Then in my phone book, most people were linked automatically (so they had the right number from my Google contacts). But all my facebook friends still have the wrong number (no leading 0 or +).
Hi
Why not just edit the contact after importing it? What i mean is, just click edit and then add the same phone number that you alreday obtained from facebook as the main mobile phone number for that contact and your problem should be solve no?!
Myself I have done this from my contacts and that works great and is quite a small amount of work, even more i dont really trust most facebook phonenumbers as many people just add some random number many times i experienced
Hope this helps....
you cant edit it once it's linked to facebook because the facebook number takes over

Ok i start to see your point now actually, sorry, what you mean is that you cant make any other number than a facebook number the default number for a phone contact once it is linked. That is pretty stupid...
Previously posted in Synergy thread with no resolution/suggestions.
Background
I have contacts synched from my Exchange account (I need to access work email, etc.)
I also have contacts synched from my main google account. In google, under Contacts, the "My Contacts" subdivision are identical to the Exchange contacts. There are no duplicates on either list of contacts.
On my phone, under "search people" I see all contacts, including random people from gmail's of past. This is normal. Under the People App, I see a list of my exchange contacts (which also happens to be the same list as my "My Contacts" sub-list from Google Contacts). There are no duplicates seen here either.
Question
However, when I begin to type a text and start to enter the name of the person to send a text to, the auto complete showing matching names shows DUPLICATES of every entry. So for example, I type Tom, I would get two Tom Mobile numbers and Two Tom Home numbers where it should be only one for each (1 Tom home, 1 Tom Mobile). Is this normal behavior for Sense/SMS 3.0? I did not have this issue with my prior stock ROM. If not, how would you suggest resolving it?

the only time i see a duplicate is when i type in a name of someone i called recently, and the numbers are one digit different, i original being the real number, and "duplicate" being the one with a "1" in front of it

Right, that is expected behavior. When I start to type a name in the text input I get two of each and every number showing up in the drop down. But as I said, no duplicates when I browse through "people" app.

I only get duplicates in this sense as well. I think it even says recent in front of them or by it. I also get a duplicated text "wording"if trying to attach a pic within a text. It seems sending from gallery works the best for mms.

There is a "history" listing which is also normal behavior. So for example, If I'd previously typed TOM, when I got to enter T-O, you will see TOM (history next to hit) and again the TOM result. Only I also see an exact duplicate for that TOM again just below it which really shouldn't be there (should it?). I do not believe it was like this in Stock. My only guess is the identical contacts from Exchange and Google (My Contacts) have both been synched over and SMS 3.0 doesn't filter the duplicate entries from showing like the "People" app correctly does. This is why there are no duplicates under "people" app but they do appear in text name entry drop down.
Based on other threads: http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/113907-duplicate-contacts-when-texting-calling.html & http://androidforums.com/droid-x-support-troubleshooting/400279-duplicate-contacts-all-sms-apps.html it looks like others have noticed this issue too. It's not ROM specific but seems to be a GB and/or Sense 3.0/SMS issue? Apparently this IS the standard behavior of a GB rom I guess? I do not recall having this issue with stock Froyo rom. Unless someone else with both identical exchange and google contacts has figured out how to avoid it.
On my LGOG, there are two apps, Phone and Contacts. In Contacts, I can use the Display option to expand the categories of contacts that are shown and I have set it to show the maximum number of contacts possible. However, in the Phone (i.e., Dialer) app, I am unable to pull up certain names under the Phone app's Contact tab (not to be confused with the separate Contact app). These names freely show in the Contacts app, but are missing from Phone. I cannot find any Display settings in the Phone app. The Contacts tab display in the Phone App says "Phone Numbers > Custom" at the top, but I cannot figure out how to change the "Custom" display.
Does anyone know how to change what contacts are displayed in the Phone (not Contacts) app?
Also, in the Phone app, the Favorites tab displays my contacts as large icons/tiles. Is there any way to make them show up in list view? Again, I see these settings in the Contacts app but not the Phone app. Very frustrating!
Thanks for your help.

Contact listing inconsistent in Groups
I have an HTC HD2. When using a MIUI ROM the contacts are listed pic then name on a single line, same in looking in Groups. When using Jellybean or ICS ROM the contacts are listed name then pic but in the Groups (when looking at contacts) they are listed two pics and names per line. Is there anyway to make the contacts in Groups as single line entries per name ? If not, could that be something to be worked on in future updates ?
