If you had Xposed that's likely why. I heard Xposed really kills the battery.

What does it killing the battery have to do with me wanting to do the update?

Nothing, I'm just saying that if you had Xposed on 11A that is likely why you noticed a difference going to a stock, urooted ROM.

As long as your on stock ROM, then yes you can still receive otas from Google...or Sprint.
No you will not loose root buy you may have to reflash super user ( which is essentially loosing but very easy to attain again)

Odds are it's the full system wipe, which is like a super Factory Data Reset, that is the source of your better feeling GNex. Factory Data Resets cure a lot of ills.
So if anyone ever wants to know what is means by "placebo effect" there you go....
Rooting on it's own will not do anything to speed up the phone. It only allows superuser access privilege to you or apps you allow. This you should probably question and better have a good reason for.
Wiping the phone as a consequence of unlocking the bootloader may do that temporarily.

You probably won't be able to apply the OTAs properly. You'll have to flash them manually with fastboot.

Rooted stock here - OTA's apply fine, but you do have to re-root after getting them. I went from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 a few hours ago.

Ehh who cares... No root for 5.1.1 yet so I'm gonna hold off on it anyway. Plus it doesn't even fix anything really. Gonna hold off till root is available for 5.1.1.

Same! Thanks to your post I checked and sure enough, downloading now! ~563MB.
is it necessary to factory reset phone after installing 5.1.1?
Difference between OFF and OF7?
Got the update this morning... Installing now.
Update complete! First thing I did was remove S Finder and Quick Connect from the notification pull down. Other than that, I have no idea what's changed hah!
I noticed under developer options there is a toggle to unlock the bootloader. Good job Sprint!

Beefed up security that bricks the phone, devs are having trouble getting past it.
if it ever gets sorted out maybe will see some development.
Pp.
It isn't about security, it's all about Exynos and the fact we have zero source code for it because Samsung won't hand it over for obvious reasons, without that source code it's relatively difficult to build roms. Some devs have done it but with the cost of it being painstakingly time consuming and with the resulting Roms being still buggy and relatively unstable. Which brings me to the assumption that because the s5 had development or other Samsung devices had good development you assumed this one would follow suit however most of Samsungs previous devices were using Qualcomms Snapdragon processors which Qualcomms been known to be good with supplying it's source code.

Fudge... this phone is feeling super slow without customer kernels and overclockin. I moved over back to android ditchin the 6 in hopes of rooting and going all sorts of crazy. Plus the multitasking is a joke in that it kills apps so fast

Guess that's why Apple has a reputation of just working.. Now I know why Samsung sales are slipping. I was told hope you didn't listen to the salesman, really? Does your elders listen to salesman when looking for a gift? Since Samsung is aware of it how hard it it to put a banner before the upgrade warning the new user? Now back to Apple there products work, sounds like a hit a forum that thinks bugs and bad QA is fine.. Keep your wallets open sheep, samsung loves you.

Nope, Verizon boned us on the S7 Edge and did the same thing. We can't downgrade either.
I just ran into something a bit strange.
I am on the tmo network, and with any custom stock rom I flash, whether it's my own or others, I get no network anymore.
However, if I KDZ to stock 20r I do.
Any ideas?
Yes my device is fully bootloader and carrier unlocked, as well as has been rooted since day 1

Strangely, all stock based roms.
Dominion did it, Imperium did it, Genisys is now doing it
I havent tried any CM roms yet, probably wont be able to until tomorrow, so my phone can re-charge.
I don't have that issue. Currently on tmo, and just dirty flashed your dompop over micromod's extreme.
