Hi
I am experiencing very low upload speeds(0.1mb) especially when I'm further away from router. Download speeds are OK but still 20-30 percent lower than nexus 4. I tried changing channels, g, b, n modes, greenfield on or off, obss. When I test on my nexus 4 speeds are OK. Please advise. Thanks

Anyone know what is the maximum link speed we can achieve? I am connecting to a new High spec wireless n router set up to 300mbps but maximum I can connect at is 65mbps even though they are next to each other and have excellent signal strength. I thought nexus had wireless n modem?
Thanks

300mpbs is a marketing speed.. without a lot of configuration of both router and client you'll never see that.
See this chart for example http://www.eweb-corporate.com/en/resources/networking/wifi-router-comparison-chart.html
Based on that you're getting towards the bottom end of N speed, which is good enough for a phone.
Ok, I have charters 100mb service at home with has a Belkin N150 router hooked up to it...I do lots of speed tests and rarely will I get over 25mb on my speed tests...Usually between 20-25. Shouldn't I be getting alot more than that? I realize I loose some speed going thru the router, but that much? Is there anything I can do to improve? Does this sound normal to you guys? Many thanks
P.S. The speed test numbers are done from my galaxy nexus

Usually its just my phone and my galaxy 10.1 tab, but they are never online at the same time.
I read somewhere on here that the wifi on the GNexus is not that great and wasn't all that fast, the LTE is usually faster. I may be wrong.
Do you live in a large apartment building with extremely crowded wifi channels? I know that my Gnex gets about 7 Mbps (36 Cable connection) on 2.4 GHz because it's so crowded. When I switch the router to 5 GHz it gets about 34 Mbps because those channels are empty.
I have 35/35 fios that actually hits 42/30 on the every single computer and laptop at home. I have NEVER gotten higher then 29 on my phone and like the OP I usually only get 20-25. Buff McBig (great name btw) What do get on speedtest with your phone on wifi can you post a screen?

Apparently I exaggerated because I can only average 29 or 30 and max at 32. That is with 3 devices all samsung. The others are gtab 10.1 and sprint gs2. My transformer prime can't connect to 5ghz.

every mobbile device is basically limited by its hardware, memory/cpu and throughput bottleneck. you cant get much higher than 30Mbps on the nexus as it's hitting hardware limits due to a mobile device.
thru the generations speedtest results have gone up though.
I'm on the official JB ROM and have noticed that my device's wifi signal is very low (1 to 2 bars at most) inside the house.
Is there a fix to make the signal stronger or maybe a custom ROM or radio that has stronger wifi?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
U could increase signal strenght using dd-wrt on ur router. Maybe that could help..
I had an iPhone the last two years and with the same router the signal was full all around the house. I really like this device and hope to find a solution.
the wifi antenna is on the bottom half of the phone, hold it at the top and youll see a big improvement. iphone is at the top middle
I also read some time ago that the Nexus show you the "true" signal streangth whilst other devices/manufacturers programs the software to show more bars just the please the costumers eyes. So even though it might look less on a Nexus the actuall speed remains the same as other phones. Don't know if this is true but i like to believe it is

It's a relief if it's true, but I think the problem is there. In the same distance around the house I had signal with the iPhone 4 where GN has none.
I happen to get low bars too, not a lot but I get hella fast downloads than my previously droid incredible. I can download a 100mb file in about 15-25 seconds.
My droid incredible took around 50 seconds to a minute. So I do praise whatever they did to the WiFi performance or it could be the ROM lol..

I really hope there is an update to the Wi-Fi driver. Comparing it to my HTC one, s3 and nexus 4, it always has a lot weaker strength and speeds which is a little disappointing since its WiFi only. Has anyone else noticed this? In many spots the Wi-Fi will not even show where my other device still have half strength. I LOVE this tab but this only one issue is bugging me

No, this has much better wifi than the Nexus 4. The Nexus 4 has wifi driver issues.
The Wifi in this tablet has been the best I have ever owned, laptops and phones included. The range is incredible. What I thought was a dead space in my home isn't with this.
Maybe you're holding it wrong?
This makes me upset. Maybe I have something defective. I'm def not holding it wrong. Is there any apps that judge WiFi strength

Yeah it's called the WiFi signal indicator in the top right of your screen. Not trying to be an ass, but that's what its there for.
I have fantastic WiFi on my device. I get better upload speed on it than any other device in my house.
Try changing the settings from Auto select to 2.5ghz only under advanced in WiFi settings.
I was going to test this and then I noticed it connected itself to my wifi a block from my house. I am very impressed to say the least !

Agree that the Wifi speed and sensitivity on this blows many other devices in my home away.

Try the app "Wifi Analyzer"
I am also experiencing slow wifi, with my nexus 7 2g I am not able to watch a movie over the google movies app not even youtube I hope the resolve the problem. all my other tablets are able to stream without problem (Acer iconia tab, Sero 7 pro) I have a 10mbps ISP
Hey guys,
I have a couple questions about my WiFi on my Nexus 7. The first being, that I always seem to have really slow WiFi connection. For example, I have CenturyLink Internet at home with 12mbps down and 1 mbps up (which I know is on the slower side), but my Nexus 7 has a hard time with buffering hq youtube videos even at full bars. On average, it sits at 52mbs link speed with the router. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?
My other question is, my house has a wifi extender upstairs on one side of the house and the modem/wifi router combo downstairs on the other side. The problem is, certain services are limited or blocked through the wifi router for that extender (no torrent/voip for the kids that recklessly hog bandwidth) but I do not want my Nexus 7 to be included in this. In fact, I would prefer to never even have the nexus connect to the extender at all, but the extenders shares the same name/password combo as the wifi router. Is this possible or anyone have any tips? Thanks!

well i can tell you this, that on any device connected to wifi, not including computers, will have a hard time actually reaching the maximum speeds you have available to you. also the n7 has a nice wifi antena but at the same time, no matter what the further you are from it, the slower it will be. if you download speedtest.net, that will give you a more realistic feel for what the speeds you are getting over your wifi are.
as for the extendors, and not having it connect to them, im not sure if that is possible
Ya, I understand that. I am only 15 feet and through 1 wall away from the wifi router though and like I said, I'm usually at full wifi bars.

I've gotten 55Mbit down and 30Mbit up (almost my full speed) on the N7. If you're getting lower speeds, most likely it's your router as the device can clearly handle it
