Today I woke up to my leased unrooted phone having a UICC unlocked message on screen. Anyone else?

I got an unlock code from AT&T, but I was never prompted to enter it after putting an H2O Wireless SIM card in my GS3. I'm able to place/receive calls and get data after entering APN settings.
My phone is rooted, but I didn't think it was already unlocked. Maybe I missed something. Any ideas? Thanks..

Did you buy the phone from someone else or an official retailer brand new in the box? If the former, someone may have already unlocked it. Otherwise did you perform the JB unlock method via the services menu?

I purchased the phone new from AT&T and rooted it a few days later. I never did the JB unlock.

Prepaid or postpaid... They all work as long as they are same phone service provider. Try a different network n see if that works.
Its a network lock, not a service/plan lock.

I guess that explains it, since H2O uses AT&T's network.
While back I heard something about unlocking phones is illegal? Where are we with that?
Bought this phone on craiglist, currently running Wicked Rom, can I just call Tmobil and ask them to unlock the phone for me?

They'll provide an unlock code if you've been using the phone on your T-Mobile line for 40+ days
I unlocked mine with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.regionlockaway just open app hit no region lock. Hit reboot later (must do that do not reboot automatically) turn phone off manually. Put other sim in the phone and turn it on.

I have bought a service to get an Unlock Code for my Samsung Galaxy S3 T999N which is SIM Locked by Metro PCS. They provided me with some 4 codes: NETWORK, PROVIDER, SUBPROVIDER, DEFREEZE.
When I turn on my phone with a non-metropcs sim, the phone prompts: "PIN to unlock SIM service provider" so I put the PROVIDER code that I got from FATSGSM after hitting "Unlock" I get the following message: "unable to unlock sim service provider"
What is wrong? Could the PIN provided by this service be wrong?
Just an FYI, I am outside the US right now.
Have you tried using the metro sim?

I don't have the metro sim.
Ok. Im not certain about it, but it might be required for the initial unlock. Hopefully someone else can say for sure.

Thanks for reply to my post.
This might not be true because if you have the Metro PCS sim card inside, you will not get the unlock box. You only get the box to put the unlock code in when you put a non-MetroPCS sim card.
Can anyone corroborate this information?

He means it may need to be activated with the carrier first in order to be unlocked.. Some phones do require this.. You can try the region unlock app but I'm not sure if it works with s3

I used it when I got my replacement S3 a while back and it said the unlock was successful. I have no way to test if it really was or if it also SIM unlocked though. I wouldnt expect it to do so, but in my experience, it is safe to try.

I just switched from att to t mobile and the guy at t mobile said that they would unlock my bootloader after 3 months if I asked. Is this true? And my other question is wouldn't it be better to wait for them to unlock it for me before I use any other method to root? Or is a bootloader and rooting not connected. I'm asking because it's been a few years since I rooted and I forgot almost everything. The last phone I rooted was my Galaxy S3. Lol. Thanks

Either you misunderstood what the guy told you or he misunderstood what you asked.
Tmobile only unlocks the carrier so the phone can be used with any sim card from any carrier.
No phone company unlocks bootloaders.
Good luck!

I just got a Verizon SIM and put it in my phone and left it dormant. OTA update popped up in about an hour. Downloaded and installed, then switched RIGHT back to the Magenta Mobb. No issues.
