CM11 + microG GSMCore (FLOSS replacement for GAPPS) - Amazon Fire Phone

Hi,
Just saw this morning the announcement that microG GSMCore went alpha. According their own post:
microG GmsCore is a FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) framework to allow applications designed for Google Play Services to run on systems, where Play Services is not available. If you use your phone without GAPPS this might become a useful tool for you.
Said in different words; this allows you to use apps that normally would require proprietary closed source apps from Google. This could be a nice replacement for people that want more privacy. You would use a network location not relaying in Google, instead of Google Maps integrations you would see Openstreetmaps, etc.. Of course not all the frameworks are implemented right now but I expect to get better with some time. I'm looking forward to the 'cast' functionality (as I have a few Chromecasts at home).
I would love to give it a try on CM11 but it needs to add a patch to the code that allows package signature faking. I saw that the patch is on review for CM12.1 but I would need the developer @ggow to backport this to CM11 and include it in his next release. As I don't have permission to ask directly in the development sub-forum I'm posting here to see if there are more people interested on this.
The patch, for @ggog, is here: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/106162/ and the post for microG is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-microg-gmscore-floss-play-services-t3217616

You can use xposed to disable signature checking.

I didn't know there was a module for that, Thanks.
The developer for the CM11 Amazon FIre Phone though, told me in his next release he is going to include signature faking (he said he already merged it before I even asked)
So maybe I'll just wait until his next release to try this out.

- No, not CM-12
- CM-12 will require amongst other things a new kernel (AKA fireos 5.0)

What is Guardian Rom?
Guardian ROM is a custom android ROM multiple devices. The ROM is completely Open Source and based off of the CM10.1. While this build is stable because it's based on CM10.1 it is a preview so please expect some bugs, & missing features (i.e updater).
What Features does Guardian Rom have?
Kernel is hardened with SecDroid Tweaks.
ROM is patched with and includes OpenPdoird for
permissions management.
Guardian Project apps are pre-installed – These include Orbot (Tor), Gibberbot (Secure IM),
and more.
CSSimple and OStel (https://guardianproject.info/wiki/Ostel) are included as replacements to the
built calling apps. providing encrypted communications.
If encryption is enabled and password is entered wrong 10 times the phone wipes user data.

Coming Soon:
Including support for Deniable Encryption (similar to Truecrypt hidden volumes).
Including GRSecurity for exploit mitigation and more secure phone.
Including SQLCipher to ensure all data is encrypted whenever possible
Including a customer “app store” for our repos.
Different lockscreen pin and Pre-Boot authentication password.
Auto-Prompt for encryption setup on first boot.

Click to collapse
How to use:
Simply flash the flashable zip through your favorite custom recovery. (TWRP is recommended as it supports encrypted devices). Once flashed you should enable Full Disk Encryption by doing the following (may very depending on device):
Code:
Settings --> Security ---> Password [enter a strong 8-16 char password]
Than
Code:
Settings --> Security ---> Encryption --> Enable Encryption
Downloads:Downloads are over here.
Please verify the downloaded file with the attached GPG signature to ensure is is a legit copy.
GAPPS
Google Apps are NOT included and before you flash them you may want to read this article.
UPDATES:
Since this is a preview I have not had a chance to remove or modify the CM Updater. Please do NOT use it as you will be flashing a stock CM10.1 build and not Guardian Rom. This will be fixed shortly.
always been curious about this rom, so I may give this a whirl! thanks for the hard work!
Any reviews?

Since these NSA Android stories are rolling out there might be more traffic coming this way.
SAMSUNG S4
Will this be available for an unbranded international S2, GT-I9100 ?
I am currently trying out CM10.1 and installed most of the included apps manually, but there is a problem with encryption and updating the nightlies and CWM, so I'd like to try out Guardian Rom.

Those stories are FUD. Don't believe them. The only code the NSA put in android is SeLinux which hardens android. It's opensource and has been in linux for years.

Not for now. Nexus device get primary support as they have an AOSP Source tree.
A very worthwhile effort. I wish I would own one of the supported devices to see how it goes.
I hope that more developers will start to put liberty and privacy into Android.
Keep up the good work.

More is coming soon. Guardian Rom is going to be on more device soon, We have a working once-click installer for all supported devices at this point, easy setup for Full Disk Encryption and Deniable Encryption, Policy Management and more. We are about to launch for a round of funding so stay tuned. Things are going to get exciting.

Looked into this project earlier. You can't find a dl link for jflte because it's only currently got beta release for the nexus line. The guy has a page on Kickstarter trying to raise 35 thousand dollars to support development. He promises to make a stable build and support more devices only if his 35k support fund is together by april 30th. Don't think it's gonna happen bc he's only at 1500.

I am fairly certain it will run, but you might not have access to SD card or camera. If not, find out if there is a GEE/b kernel you can flash afterwards or if the OP can create a GEE/b kernel since it looks like it has a new kernel, aside from any other currently available. I know I've never seen UnityMod kernel anywhere.
To the OP, if you ask any of the other kernel devs what changes they made to produce a Gee/b kernel of the same settings I am sure they would provide some advice.
EDIT: some changes may be necessary in the build.prop as well to allow access to GSM.
EDIT: Don't really want to be part of this thread anymore and I haven't said anything useful
Ok. I am the OP BTW. Founder/Creator.
The UnityKernel cannot be found. It's the major unique feature of UnityROM-2. How it is done is quite simple. To me. But I remember when I had this phone. How badly it needs a good stable ROM. Just like jewel did till I did this.
So trying to do y'all a favor lol. The best ROM for Evo LTE now coming to the next Sprint "Problem Device".

I saw you were the OP, that's why I quoted you too LOL. No worries. Thank you for building this ROM. I haven't tested it yet because I am working on getting the G3 port to work on our Sprint OG. But I am happy to check it out. I just wanted to let you know that you can build the geeb kernel too. I don't think it takes much, I think only adding or switching a branch for your build.
Also, if you created this ROM and built from sources, you might want to think about having this thread moved to Original Development instead of Development. This one is more for ports and changes to an existing rom in order for it to work on our phone. The new Roms and creations should go in the Original Development.

You did a great job, it works fine. I think you should continue to work on perfection of Rom. As far as I understand, you need to go to another forum thread(Optimus G Original Android Development). When using the camera - got two crashes . everything else works perfectly, quickly and smoothly! Antutu received 20673 balls without my optimization. Thank you for a wonderful job. I know little about it, but it seems to me that all is well. This gproj or aosp based? You use the new driver for the camera? Excuse me for my english.
Well thanks for the feedback. I'll run 2.7.0 for LS970 now. Tons of new things added for the build and kernel

Apologies for naivete, I just repo sync'd Unlegacy Android Pie thinking that since Flo was in the branch that it was already possible just no one was compiling it.
Again, just a brand-nubian banging my head against obstacles until they give, is it not possible to take say a Marlin P kernel and run it through LazyFlasher to make it Flo friendly?
LazyFlasher is a custom kernel flashing tool designed to make it easy to dynamically modify ramdisks and inject kernel binaries into the current boot image.
It's the swiss army knife of kernel flashing for use in Team Win Recovery Project.
The intent behind it was to allow a 1 custom kernel fits all approach, where your users can flash single zip on any ROM for a particular device,
allowing your kernel to be compatible with the vast majority of custom ROMs already out there. It takes away the pain of building custom boot.img
for each and every variant a user requests and puts it into 1 low maintenance intelligent universal flashable zip.

I like this idea...a barebones rom sound awesome....the one I currently use seems to be the lightest footprint but COSP sounds promising.
I vote for it to have the fixes needed for F droid functionality but will need a separate package to flash....therefore the people who want Google won't have to uninstall any apps which will keep the rom light.

So this rom is like strictly stock that we can still receive updates from Google, correct?
If so would it possible to add clock/date options ? TIA
Is there an option to install Yalp Store as a system app?
Now THIS right here is a ROM i can get behind if they keep it AOSP-Barebones ROM with option maybe sideload zip you can install for more options. I want to go Google free when MicroG gets better. Keep up the Good work will be monitoring this Rom, new daily driver.

Barebones with sidoadable zips would be real cool. I don't know to what extent things can be done this way, but even things like privacy guard so people have a choice. That'd be so cool. A flashable zip that contains privacy guard. Really though don't think that's a possibility.
Just posting this cause it's something that's always been on my mind. It's way above my pay grade and maybe just a pipe dream anyway...
I've often thought it would be cool to have a minimal Rom installable with either a PC based script or aroma.
It would let you pick the features then install. Lol

No. Custom ROMs are just that. Custom.
Google monthly updates only work for stock. You need to wait until the dev merges updates from Google into their code.
hey, this is the best ROM I've seen around here since I want to get rid of Google
I've only been testing for a day, but here are some questions and bug reports
- I can't use the Phone app to call anyone (using Virgin Mobile network)
- Netflix won't play UHD content
If I flash another kernel, would it be ok? I'm thinking of trying the Elemental X
otherwise, only good things, keep it up
There's gonna be an update this week! Some new exciting changes included!
Glad this ROM has signature spoofing. Now if only I could get Snapchat to work

I see there are 7S and 6S kernels, but I don't see any custom ROMs for them, so idk if we will see any for this phone too.
The repo is now available, however, it's empty by the time of me posting this now. It took them two weeks just to create the repo, that's insane. Well, at least it finally happened. Waiting for sources to be uploaded, they probably have to use slow vpn or something to do that, so it might take quite a bit of time.
What can we do with the kernel source?
So it is here.

Well, apparently we'll have to write drivers for our device:
Code:
# nubia driver
drivers/nubia
arch/arm64/configs/vendor/nubia
arch/arm64/configs/vendor/NX729J_diff.config
arch/arm64/configs/vendor/NX729J-perf_diff.config
arch/arm64/configs/vendor/NX729J_driveronly.config
This is from .gitignore, so we can't build this kernel and run it i.e. on stock rom.

We're not gonna see them until someone writes these drivers or zte publishes them. Both are very unlikely, so...
Seems like they uploaded it again, on zips. I checked and it seems to contain several things inside the /drivers/nubia folder so we probably have now a full workable kernel source
