Marshmallow - Old-Style App Drawer? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I flashed the OTA using wug without any issues.
Reports as: Android 6.0, Build MRA58K
I've noticed the app drawer appears to still be the old-style black card interface, vs the new vertically scrolled white interface. Also, there were only 1-2 wallpapers available in this image.
The Nexus 7 image appears to be incomplete. My Nexus 5 (also flashed w/Wug) appears to be complete.
Anyone notice the same?

I grabbed a fresh copy of Google Now Launcher from the Play Store & all is working.
Did not need that last step for my Nexus 5 update.

[Q] KOT49H 4.4.2 Launcher Folder bug

I'm getting strange behavior occasionally when opening folders in the stock 4.4.2 launcher. What happens is they seem to open behind the background instead of in front. In the attached image I've opened the folder in the lower left corner and you can see it displayed behind the widgets and background. Anyone else seeing this?
Not here. But will keep an aye on it just in case notice something.

yeah no problem here as well. but i'm using GEL and latest search apk with stock 4.2.2 and ART, with bionic binaries.
I've tried reflashing from with the factory image. Same problem.
I've cleared the launcher cache/data and rebuilt the screen. Same problem.
GEL and Nova are both ok. Looks like 4.4.2 has a buggy launcher when folders are used heavily.

[NOTICE][APK]Download and install Google Search 3.2 with Google Launcher Now

Download and install Google Search 3.2 with Google Launcher Now
Google has pushed out an update to the Google Search app, which now means there's also an update to the Google Experience Launcher. We've got the APK for you to install below, and this is looking like a substantial update – it looks like the new (and probably official) name for the Google Experience Launcher is Google Now Launcher.
What's New
Google says:
*Bug fixes and performance improvements
We say:
*New Google Now Launcher name with splash screen on start up
*6 columns on tablet home screens (up from 5)
*AirBNB reservations in Google Now
*Fixes disappearing icon in the hotseat bug
*Hotword detection now works in British and Canadian English
*Icon imports from old home screen
(we're still checking it out, might be more to come)
Be aware, you need to have the Google Home stub app installed to see the Google Now Launcher. This branding also doesn't show up on the Nexus 5, which already has the new launcher installed by default.
APK Download
The APK is signed by Google and upgrades your existing app. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the file is safe to install and was not tampered with in any way. Rather than wait for Google to push this download to your devices, which can take days, download and install it just like any other APK.

I don't think it includes a launcher. If you already have GEL installed it will be updated, but it doesn't include one. I uninstalled my GEL launcher before installing this apk, and there was no change on the stock launcher. It wasn't until I installed GEL again that I saw the changes, namely now it's called "Google now launcher". Also the icons are still a bit on the big side. Good upgrade though, thanks!

I got 3.2.17 update in the play store. It didn't include GEL. I had removed the launcher so I added it back. It's now GNL.
"OK Google" works when you have Google now open if you have stock launcher but that is it. You have to have Google now open. For it to work on any home screen, you need to install Google now launcher.
Edit: hot word detection is cool but at the expense of battery. Wow! Idle all night (over 9 hours) and 11% battery gone. Before enabling and adding GNL, is lose about 3% overnight (with everything syncing and location services on).
Edit 2: I disabled hot word detection and battery life is a lot better. The active listening needs to be optimized. It certainly doesn't work as efficiently as it would on the moto x.
I don't see much advantage of GNL over the stock launcher so far.

Newbie here. Installed GEL when I first got my Moto G and it's updated to new Google Now Launcher. However one quirk I notice is widgets don't work with this launcher....is that correct or do I have settings wrong?
I navigate to settings>home> it shows two launchers, one of which is Google Now. When using Google Now, when I flipped through the home screen pages, it only includes my apps and doesn't show any widget screenshots. When I revert back to default Moto G launcher, there are pages of both apps and widgets....
Am I missing something or is this a Moto G thing? Many thanks!

You should try the Nova Beta Launcher is really fast, faster than stock or GEL especially when you disable all animations.

I like nova (and apex, too). Currently still on GNL by I'll probably either go back to stock or maybe nova. But, when warranty either runs out or I get closer to that, I'll root this phone and rom it to death like I have with my last few phones.
I can't believe that I've had this phone for a whole month and haven't rooted it yet. But, I don't feel the need yet. I'm eager to see what happens with this launcher, though. Not so sure about the hit words, though. After all, it's just swipe, tap, to do the same thing.

Black Status Screen Bars on S3
Hi guys.
I've tried this on both my Nexus 7 2013 (Kit Kat 4.4.2) and Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300 with Jelly Bean 4.3).
On the Nexus everything works fine. On the S3, however, I now have a black status bar, instead of a transparent one.
On the sotck launcher (you know, Touchwiz) I already had transparent status bars and I thought the Google Now Laucher had those too, no matter what device you installed it in.
Has this happened to anyone else?

[Q] Nexus 7 5.0.2 update issues

So I updated my nexus to 5.0.2 today and all went well, not rooted or unlocked bootloader, stock everything. So everything looks fine except for the launcher. The app drawer in android L is supposed to be a white square with apps, but unfortunately mine looks like the app drawer from kitkat even though I updated to android L. Also on the homescreen, the menu icons are supposed to be transparent, well mine is not they are encapsulated by a black bar. I already tried wiping the cache via recovery and still no luck. Checked app updates and there was nothing.
Forgot to mention, chrome is supposed to create tabs in the recent apps drawer, but instead it looks like the one from android kitkat. I feel like this was an incomplete installation. Factory reset is last resort for me so are there any easier fixes out there? I do not want to unlock bootloader/root either.
Thanks!
I think you need to install the google now launcher from the play store, that will give you the white app drawer & should sort the icons on home screen as well. The launcher that lollipop comes with on nexus 7 is pretty much the same launcher that was in kitkat.
The chrome setting merge tabs & apps is only on phones at the moment AFAIK & not on tablet as yet.

Nexus 7 2013 5.1: Google Photos Not Working

Hi,
Another problem since updating my Nexus 7 (2013 wifi version) to Android 5.1 when I open the photos app (Google) it is just a blank white screen.
Then when I go to recent app screen to try and bring it back up it just freezes the recent apps screen. I can then go back to home screen then back to recent apps and swipe it away.
Anyone else having this issue?
Any suggestions?
Is it yet another bug that needs fixed for Android 5.1.1?
Also I notice in the apps settings I have 2 photos apps.. See image.

Nightlies screw up my home screen. How to fix?

Hi,
for all nightlies, which I flashed so far, and after rebooting, my home screen is screwed up.
By that I mean, that
(i) any random number of folders into which I had previously grouped apps from the drawer have disappeared
(ii) from those folders which have remained on the home screen, any random number of apps have been discarded
(iii) my personal background image always returns to the default background image
Why is this happening and how can I prevent this?
(Actually I realized that (iii) even happens if I only reboot the phone without flashing a nightly.)

What launcher are you using? Trebuchet, or something else? Provide as much details about you setup as you can.
- the device is a Samsung SIII GT-I9300, currently it runs the 14.1-20170301 nightly for the i9300, the device is rooted
- I have not installed any launcher other than the one which came with the ROM
- Under settings->apps->configure apps it says launcher-app "Trebuchet"
- I have not done anything special to the home & lock screen, other than
a) grouping several apps which I tend to use more often into several named folders on the home screen
b) using a single private picture as wallpaper for the home & lock screen
Up to now I've updated, using nightlies twice. Each time I did this, and after rebooting, the work done on a) was partially destroyed and the wallpaper under b) was not used, although the corresponding picture showed up 1st among the wallpapers to select.

I'll be more than happy to do so, if you let me know which additional details would be of help.
Get Ti Backup, after update restore launcher data.
