Duplicated icons - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
A week ago I relocated quite a few applications from my rooted G3 to the SD-Card. Shortely after that my system got really messy. Sometimes when the phone starts up all relocated icons are all over the place and not in folders anymore. When I put them back in folders its fine until the next reboot. When I de- and reinstall those apps they getting duplicated. Its a total mess. Does someone have an idea to solve this?

Did you try factory reset or wipe cache and dalvik cache? I recommend do factory reset.

No offense but this feels a little bit like: ...did you try to re-install Windows?

[Q] Cache & Data

So, my GVoice app stopped working about a week ago. It would just crash on load. I went to clear the cache for it, and it was at 1.17GB. It wouldn't clear, I couldn't delete it with temproot. I renamed the folder, and that fixed it. The data is still there though.
The next day I went into my app management, and my browser, facebook, and a couple other apps have around 500-800MB. Again, I hit clear data/clear cache, it doesn't give me an error, but it also doesn't clear it.
Any idea whats going on? This happening to anyone else? I have run the cache cleaner from recovery as well. I just updated tot he new OTA, problem is still there. Everything seems to run fine though.
Sounds like something you did in one of your applications or in the settings is "Protecting" the cache. My best suggestion when all else fails is backup using titanium backup and then do a restore to factory settings and data in both bootloader and in recovery. Backup the sd card and wipe it as well, then just put personal data back to your sd card and restore with titanium, and all problems should be resolved

Insufficient Space/Invalid Package File

I've been having this issue for the past couple of weeks and I don't know how to resolve it. At first I thought it might have been my ROM so I wiped everything clean and flashed a new ROM but the problem still exists. I read on a forum that the cache partition could be full so I used Terminal Emulator to check the disk usage and I'm reading that my /cache is 98% full. I also have a dalvik cache in the cache folder as well as a dalvik cache in my /data folder both of which are close to 300mb in size. I tried to clear the cache and dalvik cache in recovery before resorting to the full wipe and each time both cache rebuilt themselves. I'm completely at a loss and I'd really appreciate some help with this issue. Thanks in advance.
So you're out of space? Perhaps you have several backups from CWM taking up all the room. They are pretty large files. I myself keep my stock backup and my most recent, the rest of them rest on my pc.

thats not the case here. i dug around a bit and saw that my cache and dalvik cache are 98% full. as stated earlier i tried deleting the dalvik cache but it regenerates itself. i looked around in titanium backup and saw an option to integrate some of the cache to the system. i enabled that and it moved around 150 items around and freed up some space. i'm still around 88% full and i know this problem is gonna rear it's ugly head very soon so I'm trying to install programs like link2sd and as2d+. none of these programs are working though...they all require partitioned sd cards (which i have) but none of these programs are seeing the partitioned card. i've tried repartitioning under recovery but that does absolutely nothing. anyway e4gt users can take advantage of these programs?
I had the same issue and it was driving me crazy. I just downloaded Cache Fixer and ran it and now I am good. Turns out my cache was 95% full, wiped it using that tool and I can now update and download.
I want to add that after it cleared, I could update but some of the other apps on the phone did no work (Google Music and Dolphin Browser to nae a few). I re-boot and the cache is back to pre clearing levels and no other issues. It does temporarily fix the isse bt I do not have a permanent fix.
If anyone has one, I would love to know what that may be.
i just want to say that I am having the same exact issue and performed the same steps the OP did. Only when I wipe the cache with cache fixer it everything forces closes so i can't update anything. So i am really stuck.
The only success that I have temporarily is uninstalling the app then resinstalling it. But thats not a permanent solution and sucks for apps like beautiful widgets.
PLEASE HELP
EDIT: on calkulins 3.0 rom and self updated google play

[q] CWM - Factory Reset .. still leaves stuff behind?

So after tinkering around with the AFTV (mounting external usb as internal, etc) , i decided to start fresh. I did a factory reset, but noticed that there's stuff that's still around. for example, I noticed there's an /emulated/legacy folder with some old stuff like my XBMC folders even though after the factory reset I installed SPMC. Also when I installed the ikonoTV app again, it already had the XBMC icon switched in still. Is it correct that the factory reset just wipes a certain portion and leaves others (the "SDcard" portion of the AFTV)? If so, how do i fully go fresh start with everything wiped?
Thanks
Boot into clockwork recovery, wipe /data and /system and reflash the pre rooted software version you want. It will even make you watch the welcome video again. Make sure you have updates blocked on router because com.Amazon.dcp will not be disabled until you disable it again.
Thanks! I guess I need to wipe /system as well then.
Router is blocking the updates so should be good.

Factory reset will not FORMAT /data, but just delete everything but /data/media, which is /sdcard. There is a separate option for wiping /data & /data/media. If you wipe /system you must be extra careful you NEVER attempt to reboot before reflashing something onto it.
Do you think it's useful to wipe the system or should wiping data media be enough for a fresh start ?

As long as you didn't change /system, there is no point in touching it. But like I said, if you do, make absolute sure to reflash something.
I got a bit of a problem here.
I extracted two .obb folders with FolderMount to my usb drive and then set my aftv (running your pre-rooted 51.1.4.0_514006420) back to factory settings + did wipe cache, data and dalvik in recovery.
all runs fine except I can not enter the usb drive.
stickmount shows it is mounting "sdcard/usbStorage/sda1" but I can not access it, neither in ESFile explorer nor FolderMount.
sdcard/usbStorage/sda1 is showing the two empty .obb folders and I can not change them.
I just reinstalled 51.1.4.0_514006420 from recovery but saw there is a lot of junk left + the same problem with the usb drive.
how can I safely wipe to a totally clean 51.1.4.0_514006420 ?
best

Hi, sorry to jump on this discussion but I think I may well of done this exact process and rebooted before reflashing.
My fire tv will now only boot to the White Amazon logo and won't revert to factory restore at all using the alt-print screen-I method. All I can manage is constant reboots.
Any ideas?
Does this mean I have in fact bricked my fire to and there's no way back for me?

[Q] [HTC Desire Eye] Missing Files, Missing Shortcuts, Changing Wallpaper

I have been using my HTC Desire Eye for quite some time now, but recently my phone has been acting strange. My files from the internal storage folder started to go missing and I can't even find them using file manager. Then sometimes, my wallpaper would change back to HTC stock wallpapers without any reason, and my shortcuts on the home screen would disappear.
I tried contacting HTC customer care, and they advised me to wipe my internal cache and so I did, but the problem persists. Then they suggested to factory reset my phone, but I want to avoid losing my game data.
Please help !!! :crying:
Backup your game data to PC, factory reset, restore game data to phone.

Factory reset delete my game data

I recently did a factory reset after I noticed that the battery on my z1c was draining rather fast. Am on .242 version.
So I did a titanium backup, renamed the game folders in /Android/obb (I was afraid they would get deleted) then did the reset.
Shock on me they still got deleted after the factory reset. None of the other files on my internal/external sdcard were deleted only the obb folders. I had like 6 huge obb files, it's going to be a pain downloading them again.
Anyone else experienced this after a factory reset? Could this be a bug?
