I flashed a new ROM (Nova unofficial CM10) and let the battery drain till it went off, normally it starts charging again when I plug it in the wall charger, but this time nothing it seems :crying: the red led is on, but the battery doesn't get warm and it doesn't turn on normally. Sometimes it randomly boots till the unlock screen shows up from the ROM, but the screen isn't responding and then it turns of again. I tried to do something in the recovery, but since there are no other ROM files on the Phone I can't try any other kernel or ROM. USB storage doesn't seem to be working in this recovery... or it might be my windows 8.
Should I wait a few "hours"?? The red led is still on... so it's doing something right?
/help

the bootloader is unlocked... pretty sure SUS won't be working, but I will try. And I don't have a removable battery system but I can forcefully shut it down.
edit:
it keeps showing up the red led, flashmode and fastboot don't work.
Ok then u have the only way just connect it via USB and update SUS its the only way for u. It wil download 40mb then install the soft it says to connect ur divise and it wil donload 225mb firmware tft after that it wil update ur devise

it will not connect to USB, it's too empty for that... it's either recovery or nothing at all. But USB storage isn't working.

I'm having the problem also
I let the phone run out of battery, and after that the phone only charges for a few minutes with red LED on. Then it boots, says that battery at 0% and then turn off
I have NOVA rom.
Any help?

it seems I fixed it! it took me a damn while, but it seems to be charging now.
what I did:
1: Download Advanced Stock Kernel 17 (fastboot version)
2: wait for it to turn off
3: charge Phone till it boots again
4: hold power + vol up till it vibrates 3 times
5: get the Phone in fastboot mode (plug-in the Phone and hold vol up)
6: fastboot the kernel
7: reboot and hook-up the charger and it should charge again :victory: (without booting)
my battery indicator is now yellow!! and the on-screen battery shows yellow as well.
ps: try using a normal charger and not the sony wall charger... it seems to be working better when the OS is not booted.

Okay I got it solved too!
Mine is as follow:
- Let it charge till the screen boots up.
- Power + volume up for 1 vibration, and then hold volume up for fastboot mode.
- Flash adv kernel 17 and then connect to charger. Let it charge for 30 mins.
- Reflash Nova kernel
Everything works perfectly after that
I think Nova kernel does not support offline charging @[email protected]

Would you mind reporting your steps and kernel problems in the recovery thread in my signature. You could help others who get similar issues.

Even I have the same problem,so you guys just flashed the Advanced kernel without touching the ROM right ??
Because its a ICS kernel and i'm running PA 2.57 which is based on CM10,I'm gonna try this out
EDIT :
This is what i did,my phone wouldn't reset(Soft or Hard reset) but i was able to get into recovery and would get around a minute when the phone powered on showing "Charging 0%"
1. Copied the CWM version of Advanced Kernel 17
2. Booted the phone in TWRP(Nova Kernel has TWRP instead of CWM)
3. Flashed the Advanced Kernel,Rebooted
4. I was now able to charge offline as well as the phone would reset(Hard and Soft both)
5. After 15mins booted in recovery and flashed Nova Kernel back
6. Rebooted into ROM and voila showed 40% charge

You can always flash a kernel, but it will probably reboot right away. TWRP didn't seem to work with windows 8... CWM does work fine, but then again I had TWRP so I wasn't able to copy the file to the Phone and flash it using the recovery. Recovery did work though but it didn't have enough juice to perform a sideload, so fastboot was the only option for me.
But it seems you figured everything out already :good:

Why go all the way round and get back to stock when flashing a different kernel does the trick for you
Tbh,flashing takes lots of time especially when you are hoping around different ROM's i didn't have that kinda patience so went with the shorter way to getting the phone up and running

I had the exact same issue with Nova Kernal.
As I was usng PAC ROM I flashed the FXP kernal that came with PAC ROM and it started charging again.
So I Think the issue is with Nova Kernal..
So basically I have the same issue. The battery of the phone was nearly empty and I decided to recharge it. Unfortunately it didn't charge.
What was the cause: I upgraded to 6.1.a.2.55 stock rom and I wanted to root it. It worked well and I could reinstall all the apps.
The current situation is: The battery is empty now but when I connect it to my computer's USB port it comes up every now and then I can get into the phone, I can access flashboot and also I'm able to get into fastboot. So I tried it with the solution given above but it is not working. I tried to flash the old 6.1.a.2.50 but the flashtool will not install it. Here is the log file:

can u press power+vol up and hold both of em till the phone vibrates three times? if yes.. open flashtool. select flashmode, pick your ftf, and when the flashtool told you to plug the device, plug it while holding volume down.. if it's recognized by the pc, it will show green led, and it will stay green after the flashtool finished flashing. if it's only show green then back to red, u need to install flashmode driver first.
if the phone cant vibrate three times, u need to charging your device first. some say in just couple minutes, some even says a whole day.
hope it'll help.
try to flash the advanced stock kernel (v17) using fastboot. No matter the software on the phone, it should go straight to offline charging.

After trying several kernels the stock .55 worked fine and it's charging again. Puh!
my xperia play r800i wont boot, it show signs of charging e.g blinking red light, red light, amber light, green light but wont boot, when i remove the battery and re insert it it will vibrate and then nothing, not even the backlight turns on just a black screen, i cannot get it to go into fastboot mode strangely so i am unable to unlock the bootloader and therefore unable to flash it back to stock, if some-one could point me to a video guide on how to get it to go to fastboot mode. with the pc companion tool it first saw it as "null" device but after updating it to latest firmware through it it reconises it as an r800 xperia play yet i am unable to browse files at all on it. i have also re updated it through update service but again nothing. this phone is out of warranty so that isn't an option. if anyone could help it would be awesome.

just to be clear to put it into fast boot mode i have attempeted the following
remove battery, wait 5 seconds, reinsert battery, hold search and power simltaniously, nothing
remove battery, wait 5 seconds, reinsert battery, press power until vibration while holding search, nothing
remove battery, hold search, reinsert battery still holding search, hold power button while still holding search, nothing
remove battery, wait 5 seconds, reinsert battery, hold search, insert usb, begins charging... no blue light
it shows no sign of charging after i "turn it on" the light goes out but i know that the front plate, i.e screen, menu buttons is not completely unresponsive as if i hold the return button when i insert the usb it recognizes it different as i was trying to flash it earlyer and it is required in the updating process, please help
it seems if i leave it plugged in via usb it will randomly disconnect and reconnect from the computer and yes pc companion will say that the device is detected every time. its almost as if it is stuck in an invisible and very fast bootloop as it disconnects and reconnects at about 5 second intervals, this only happens after it has been "turned on"
it also appears that the battery drains very rapidly as after only a few minuets of removing battery holding power ect. it will no longer "turn on" and no light will turn on through a usb socket but when plugged into the wall after a short pause it shows the amber charging light. could this be a battery problem? con the xperia play normally boot off wall power without a battery? if so then it is the devices problem as mine cannot but if it cant normally then maybe its the battery, i have a new one ordered and will arive soon and i will keep you posted.

Does your flashmode stop after a little bit of time? It does on mine, that's really strange

Try to get into fastboot mode with that method i told you above. Then try to unlock your bootloader.
Pull battery out -> insert usb cable first in computer -> connect it to the Play while holding the search button -> put the battery in while still holding the search button -> then you can release the button and you should be in fastboot mode.
That's at least how it worked for me. I then flashed new software. Mine can boot to the kernel where it then shows an image and shuts down. No matter what kernel/rom I am trying.

A few weeks ago my xperia play's battery ran out over night. Upon waking up, my phone would not charge or turn on. When i hold the power button ,the LED blinks red for a second or so and then goes away. I tried connecting my phone to the computer and it wouldn't recognize my phone.
I've tried software repair via pc companion but the computer wouldn't detect my phone like i've said. Is my phones lifespan finished? Is my battery dead and/or is there anyway to fix my phone besides buying a new battery and seeing if that works.

It is most likely empty battery (red blinking). But before buying new battery, you can try few things:
-Connect charger and leave it like that for about 5 hours (when battery is depleted phone won't start, just give her time to charge so phone can be turned on)
-Maybe to try with different usb cable/charger (those things can degrade over time)
-Best way to see is battery empty is mesure it with voltmeter (full is 4.2V, 0% is 3.2V. Below 3V battery is maybe permanently damaged)
-You can be "creative" and give battery a little "boost" with short 5V charge directly (easiest way is with unused usb cable: cut it, plug in charger/PC and connect red wire to "+", and black wire to"-" of battery. Hold it for about 30seconds, so it can charge enough to be normally charge when battery is in phone)

I don't know what might be wrong. Maybe it's best to take you phone to some repair shop to properly diagnose problem.

Take out the battery and connect to pc. If it glows red faintly you should be fine. Even if it doesn't download flastool and try to flash your stock Rom

Good news when i open flashtool and reinsert my battery while pressing the back button, the device connects to flashmode and the led glows green. However i'm unable to proceed forward from there..
EDIT: when i attempt to repair my device via pc companion i get the message:
"Problem: this phone/tablet contains modified software that cannot be updated.
details: Sony Update Engine Failure (error 2003)"

Like psxpetey said, as long as you can still get your phone into Flashmode... you should be able to restore it.
If you're trying to use the official Sony Flashtool.... then I believe that you would have better luck with the unofficial Flashtool. You can download it here ( http://www.flashtool.net/index.php ).
Here's a couple of tutorials on how to use the unofficial Flashtool:

Good luck!
Nope, i still get the same errors :l

There are so many things that could be happening....which makes it really difficult to help you troubleshoot with limited info.
What version of the Xperia Play do you have? (the R800i, R800x, R800a, etc...)?
Is your bootloader unlocked?
Can you connect to the PC in fastboot mode and can you still get the phone into Flash mode?
What FTF version are you trying to restore your phone to? (For example... "R800x_FullStocknosimlockta_Verizon.ftf").
Check out post #2 and 3 in this thread for some stock FTF files if needed... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897
(Here's another link with more FTF files - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=3637).
All I know to suggest is that you keep trying and make sure you have followed the correct steps in the Flashtool tutorials. I have personally found it very hard to brick this phone....and believe me, I have done some crazy crap to my Xperia Play when I was learning to root and ROM it. I actually used fastboot to do a full erase and then messed up by not having a recovery to be able to flash a Rom that I wanted to try... but I was still able to get the phone back into Flash mode with no kernel, ROM or recovery installed.... and I used Androxyde's Flashtool to restore my phone.

Nope, the phone itself doesn't respond to any buttons. Only signs of the phone not being dead is when i hold the back button while in flashtool it glows green or blinks red otherwise when not holding the back button

Reviving an old thread. Now when i try to enter flashmode while attempting to flash a firmware my device isn't recognised by the pc and i am unable to flash the firmware. When i hold the back button nothing happens
Edit: so what i did was take battery out and reinsert it (which allowed flashtool to somehow recognise device and flash a firmware) and i reinstalled the firmware and i turned the device on however it's stuck at the "Sony Ericsson" logo
Double edit: FIXED MY PHONE!!!!
Another edit: I am unable to unlock my bootloader despite my bootloader status claiming it is 'allowed'
Another edit: after installing cwm, i installed a rom however forgot to wipe dalvik cache etc and now im on boot loop. Now i'm back to where i am started. With a phone that doesn't work :/
Another edit: i somehow fixed this by installing a Lupus kernel in which gave me access to cwm again where i reflashed the wrong
Hello all,
I was on ICS 4.04 custom ROM with unlocked bootloader, and my ON/OFF button was failing since several days. In one of that times that I switched off the phone, I could not switch it ON anymore. I had not installed any thing (app, ROM, etc) before the problem. I bought a new ON/OFF module (3 € :cyclops: ) and the problem still goes on.
SIMPTOMS:
If I try to turn it ON, it really works (brivates and the retro ilumination works fine) but I only get a black screen (no logo and sound). If I connect the phone to PC it is recognized. I can go into flash/fastboot mode (green/blue led), I can charge it (red/green led).
If I tyry to switch it off normally trough the on/off button, it does not response (I can not turn it off in this way, only taking off the battery). The white lights in the 2 lower buttons reamins always on if I press the home button, so I can now that the pnone had not turned off.
If I try to go into recovery I can not do it (not purple light), the screen remains black with the retro ilumination working fine
WHAT I HAVE DONE
- to buy a new ON/OFF module that work fine (I think...)
- As I can go into flash/fastboot mode, I have installed several new stock roms with flashtool (GB, ICS) and several kernels without result
- I have checked all the internal conections in the PCB and screen, all seem to be right
- I have tried to go into the phone trough adb, but as I have installed stock roms, I have not enabled the debug mode in the phone, so I can not connect with it. I have searched the web, but I have not been able to find a method to enable the debug mode in the phone
- I have locked/unlocked the bootloader several times
- take off the batery a whole night and to try it again
I am thinking in a problem with the screen, but it was working fine just before to turn it off before the problem. The problem is that I do not want to spend the money for a new screen without to know if the problem is in the PCB :silly:
The more strange thing is that I can not to turn it off normally through the on/off boton , it seems that the phone has gone into a loop internally when you turn it on.
Some ideas?... Thanks in advance
You have the problem that your phone doesn't boot, the problems lies within your kernel,
first of all to fix it, use flashtool and search for a stock firmware for your arc, don't know if you got a lt15i?(Xperia Arc) or lt18i (Xperia Arc S).
This will fix your booting problem...
Make sure your bootloader is unlocked, make sure you follow the ROM-instructions step-by-step when you install one, because this is the reason you failed installing your custom kernel.
Some instructions on how to install a custom rom =>
Step 1. Gather information about YOUR phone. (write down your phone type, your kernel version, your baseband version etc....)
Step 2. On your phone go the your Settings>About Phone> Build Number and press this about 7 times, you'll notice the notification of becoming 'developer', then go back to settings>developer settings (above About Phone) and scroll to whenever you find USB-Debugging, make it active
Step 3. Install ADB and fastboot drivers for your phone
Step 4. Unlock your bootloader
Step 5. Find and download a compatible ROM ( Make sure your phone type is listed as working ... ) and install recovery on your phone.
Step 6. Open up the ROM zip-file and look for the kernel (Boot.img) inside of the ROM and extract it OR Download a kernel which is supported by the downloaded ROM
Step 7. Copy your Kernel image (boot.img) to the ADB Driver map (not necessary but alot easier to work this way) and copy your ROM-zipfile to your SD or Internal Memory.
Step 8. Open up a (Command) Terminal and use the 'cd'-command to explore to your map with adb drivers
Step 9. Connect your phone with your computer and type in the terminal-window: adb reboot fastboot
Step 10. You'll notice your LED changing to blue when it worked. Then type in fastboot flash boot boot.img
Whenever this step has worked you'll have flashed a custom kernel on your phone....
Step 11. Then you got to boot into recovery using Power + Volume Down
Step 12. In recovery do a Full Wipe, and install your ROM (+ Gapps whenever you need google play store.)
You now have a custom ROM and kernel installed!
many thanks MrMaddTraxx. That is not my problem, but your answer will be very usefull for me in the future :good:
Definetively I think that the problem is that the screen is broken. My main problem was that I have not enabled the USB debugging in my mobile and I could not make any important change on it.
Finally I got to enable USB debugging as I show in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61792353&postcount=204
Once I have USB debugging, I could enable the screen with this wanderfull app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395
I could control my phone as the touch screen works OK. I have been able too to connect it to my TV through HDMI, seeing my mobile in it too.
So the only thing to do is to buy a neww screen. I would like to ask you if you believe really that the problem is in the screen (as the backlight and touch screen work fine) or in the connections for the screen in the PCB
thanks
Hello,
I think I bricked my phone
I wanted to upgrade from 4.4.2 to Lollipop http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/general/stock-14-6-1-236-customized-lollipop-5-t3264557
And before that I did a factory reset and format data (I got some issues on my phone and wanted to get rid of them).
Now I can not enter TWRP, I can not enter any thing. At the time beeing, after many restarts my red button is broken, I switch it off by "Power/Vol+". When I connect USB or push Power it starts and showing "SONY"-Logo, and that's it.
I can not enter flash-mode by swith off, hold Vol- and connect USB :crying:
What can I do to revive my Z1c?
Thanks for advices

Yes, I have, but can not enter my phone/don't know how to enter.
I tried switch off (by Power and Vol+), holding Vol- (the same with Vol+) and plug in USB - it starts by showing red light for 2 sec than "SONY", and than stps - no vibration, no light, only steady "SONY"
cmd shows: D:\Programme\Android-Tools\ADB>adb reboot recovery
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
D:\Programme\Android-Tools\ADB>adb reboot recovery

D:\Programme\Android-Tools\ADB>adb reboot bootloader

Phhu, hopefully I do something wrong?!

Power off by holding power and volume up, just wait until it turns off. When it's totally shut off, just hold volume up while plugging in cable and don't let go of volume until you see blue led. Then you're in fastboot mode. If you have drivers installed, it's very easy to get into recovery from there. Report back.
If everything fails...
Install Flashtool on your PC, install the necessary drivers (flashtool helps you with that), download the current firmware in .ftf format and apply it with Flashtool to your phone.
No worries, we all were at your point sometime but you can always recover
Thanks for your hints, folks!
I'll try them tomorrow and give feedback than.
Happened to me once.. Accidentally wiped my data..
Only thing I managed to do is reinstall kk via flashtool
Xperia Z1 Compact .386 rooted
...nothing works.
I have almost everything installed: adb.exe (800kb from 25.07.2013), fastboot.exe (157kb from 25.07.2013), Flashtool (Version 0.9.14.0 built on 12-02-2014 22:45:00), Xperia Companion (Vers. 1.1.24.0), Z1 Compact drivers (device manager says: Sony sa0109 ADB Interface Driver Vers. 2.0.10.30018 from 13.05.2013).
Nothing can connect my Win10-PC via USB3.0 to my phone, it always starts (when I connect it to USB by holding wether Vol+ or Vol-) with red (...pink?) light for about 4sec, followed by showing "SONY" - end of anything.
I'm desperate :crying:
Do you get the green led light when connected in flash mode (vol down when connecting)?

No, only red light, than "SONY" without any vibration...
May it be, that usb-debugging was off, whenn I did format data?

The fastboot or flashmode mode should always work - regardless of what you did regarding ROMs or setting or wipe etc.
It is there to save your phone if you messed up.
It is strange that you cant enter these modes. Normally its really a driver issue and you PC does not recognize your phone.
But it seems that you have tried installing them already.
Just to make sure... Your phone charges normally when you plug it in right? So it cant be a broken cable or broken micro-USB connection on your phone?
Also make sure your phone is really shut down - try resetting it with the red button next to your SIM-card slot.
Your volume buttons were fine before right?

Thank you all for your input!
It was the usb-cable which did load my Z1c and in this case (no other data on the phone) light the purple LED and display the "SONY"-logo - but nothing else!
All the future problems are more on the software-side (my head) than on the hardware (the cable)...
Haha glad you sorted it out. I don't know why but I also have USB cables in my collection that just won't work with my Z1C... But now you know

Try to get your hands on a .108 firmware (I always keep one on my PC in case I f*** up ). They are easy to root with EasyRoot and from there you can flash dualrecovery. With TWRP you are good to access your backups or flash anything you want again.
