Hey guys,
just rooted a CDMA desire with 2.2 on the Telstra network here in Australia, but now in the network settings it's showing as if it's GSM and it can't read the sim card, it just say's no sim inserted.
Can I go back to stock or fix this?
Thanks very much
If you have the RUU yes, give it a go. Although CDMA phones don't use SIM cards, only GSM ones do
ok thanks. So I should be able to use any CDMA rom and the problem will be fixed right?
Cheers
Well, if you're phone uses a SIM card it's not CDMA so you can't use a CDMA ROM
Might wanna wait on clarification from someone else, though
oh ok thanks. It does have a sim card, so I guess that means it's GSM?
I got confused because I just knew telstra works on 850mhz and not 900mhz here in Australia. It's my girlfriends dad's phone and I told him I'd get rid of the bloatware and now it's getting no signal eek lol.
I'm downloading Rod's MIUI rom for it, so hopefully that fixes the problems.
In which case make sure it's a GSM ROM...out of interest, what radio is it running on at present?
It's on 5.11.05.14
That's a GSM radio so ONLY use GSM ROMs
Oh lol, sweet, thanks for your help so far! Lucky, because I was originally downloading a CDMA rom to flash!
Going for Rod's MIUI cos that's what I use on my nexus. It's taking ages to download though. 17 mins to go.
Do you know if I need an ext3 partition? I think it's required, but doesn't say so in the OP for that rom
I'm using eMIUI with a 1GB EXT3 partition and it works fine. Might wanna look at the APNs as they may not be on the handset so may need to be entered manually
Hi, I'm a noob, forgive me. I bought my Desire HD from Singapore, which came unlocked. Then, I downgraded it, and rooted it. Everything went fine. Then one day, after flashing a rom and flashing the recommended radio (forgot which rom), my phone suddenly lost signal, and I have been unable to get it back since. It says "Limited Service Emergency Calls Only" It detects the SIM card, but when I try to connect to my home network, it says that my SIM does not allow a connection to that network. So, I flashed back to stock, both Froyo and Gingerbread, assuming that it replaces the radio with the default radio. (Is that so?) However, that does not work. Now I fear that I might have flashed the wrong stock rom, which might be the problem. Does anyone know what is the stock rom for the Desire HD shipped to Singapore unlocked (software number, etc) and how can I get it? Also, how can I check the rom's information (software number, whether it is for asia, or is it WWE... etc) THANKS A LOT
PS. I tried getting a replacement SIM. it does not work. it is a 128k sim card. (Does that help?)
Nicholas
Also, other SIMs work on my Desire HD. My SIM doesnt, but works on other phones.
so i installed TWRP on mu unlocked and S-OFF phone, and rooted the phone. then from the recovery, i made a nandroid backup, wiped the phone, and installed this ROM. even though all traces of Verizon software is now wiped off the phone (i hope!), it still only connects when the Verizon SIM card is in (and it shows the Roaming sign; fyi, i am in Canada now). it won't give me a voice nor a data connection with my Telus SIM card nor with my Rogers SIM card. so, i went into recovery, wiped cache, and afterwards, the phone was stuck in the boot...i had to go to recovery again, wipe everything, and restore my nandroid backup. the phone is now back to stock Verizon software, and it still only connects when the Verizon SIM card is in. it should at least give me voice connection with the Telus or Rogers SIM card, but it won't. something must have happened to the radio when i flashed the ROM, and i can't figure it out.
do you guys have any troubleshooting ideas? can anybody guide me towards a fix/troubleshooting method? i'd appreciate any help...

This ROM is still very early and has some bugs. Making it work for people not using it on Verizon isn't a concern of Santods at the moment. Switch to something that does work for you until he gets the rom further along.

thank you all for your help. it's not just APN though; with that ROM, i cannot even have a voice connection, let alone data. and even though i restored my stock backup (and now running the original ROM that came with the phone), the voice still doesn't work; it only functions with a Verizon SIM card.

Well.. when you were on cm you couldn't get any service? Is your carrier lte/cdma or gsm based? Are you showing global mode when on cm? It also can be a case where some qpst work needs done to enable the extra radio bands needed to pickup your carrier.

i'm guessing by CM you mean CyanogenMod, right? if so, i was never on CM. i was using the stock ROM (4.4.3, Sense 6.0, Verizon bloatware), and then i flashed the Lollipop ROM by santod. the phone initially could connect to Rogers and i had voice and very slow (i.e., EDGE) data speeds, but after flashing the ROM, my phone lost the ability to provide any sort of voice connection except when i'm using my old Verizon SIM card (that shows the Roaming icon, because i'm in Canada now).
i could try CM, if you think it has less possible bugs. do you suggest i do a factory reset while on stock ROM and then flash CM?

Yes. Factory reset on stock recovery. Then flash twrp and sideload the latest cm build. I would probably stay with cm11 for now too.

yeah, sure. i have flashed MDMower TWRP 2.8.1.1; do you suggest i use 2.7.1.2? also, what do you exactly mean by "sideload"? i'm just a newbie; this is my first ROM flash experience. thank you

Well you can do a factory reset on stock Rom and let it boot up and then copy cm over to phone storage for flashing.....or...adb sideload.
When you boot into twrp under the advanced options there's an adb sideload feature. Once the phone is in this mode you can use you pc to send a Rom over using the command "adb sideload nameofROM.zip". Your pc will send the Rom over and the phone will flash it once it's copied over.
Backup the internal sd card of your phone before you factory reset. I've forgotten so many times it isn't funny.

ok, i did all that with MDMower TWRM 2.7.1.2 this time. CM11 is up and running now, but i still have the same issue. my Telus and Rogers SIM cards lead to a "No Service" icon, whereas my old Verizon SIM gives the Roaming indicator. funny thing is that with all three SIM cards, the correct set of APNs is loaded by default when i boot the phone, but selecting those APNs don't change anything. i also tried Global, GSM only, WDCMA preferred, and some combinations of those modes to no avail (the only SIM that leads to service is Verizon's). it seems like the phone is hard-coded for that particular SIM card, no matter what.
any other ideas? could the radio have become corrupted somehow during unlocking/S-OFF'ing/flashing? if so, what is a workaround for this?

I would bet they are using a frequency that's not currently unlocked on your radio. There is a lengthy how to posted on Google about how to enable Qualcomm radio bands.

aha, great! i know that Verizon HTC One M7 uses
CDMA 800/1900 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz
UMTS/HSPA 1900/2100MHz
LTE 700MHz (Band 13)
according to this Wikipedia page, Telus has a HSPA+ network on 850/1900 MHz (so at least the 1900 Mhz band should give me something, shouldn't it?), it has CDMA service that's supposed to shut down completely in 2015 (it is out of service in some places in Canada, but i'm not sure about my area), but has no GSM service at all.
thanks for the tip about enabling radio bands; i'll search for it...
Hello XDA Users,
I currently need some serious help, as I seem to have made a mistake with flashing a radio to my device.
I have a Verizon branded HTC M8, currently unlocked and using it with T-Mobile.
Today, I flashed a AT&T radio since I read that it helps with data dropping because it utilizes more bands.
Once I flashed the new radio, my phone will not detect my sim card.
I can't even select a network operator, nor enter any APN settings.
I did not make a NAndroid Backup of my device, so I can't resort to a back up.
I tried flashing several other radios, but not my luck none have worked.
My current device setup is as follows..
Device - Verizon HTC One M8 / Unlocked (T-Mobile)
Rom - ViperOneM8 6.1.0
Kernel - ElementalX
CID - 11111111 / S-OFF
Can someone please explain to me what went wrong, or how I can get my Sim card to reactivate.
I've tried two different sim cards, and a few online tricks none have which worked. (Tape / Trimming SIM)
This can be closed, I have solved my problem.
Updating to the latest firmware can be a lifesaver
So after a few months I decided to update my firmware, Im was using the viper 10 rom before hand.
I followed this guide to update it https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/2016-05-27-fastboot-flashing-firmware-t3387520
and downloaded the 2.41.617.3 for pme_wl. It flashed successfully and then I updated the viper rom to 5.7.
But now all of the sudden the sim card is not even recognized. It just showed the lte with a cross. And just to make sure the sim card wasn't broken, I put it
into another phone and it worked just fine.

Not sure if the same applies here, but I have a Sprint HTC 10 converted to US Unlocked on ATT running Viper and when I ran a US Unlocked update/RUU later, it made my IMEI change to unknown and say No SIM. The fix was simply to flash the Sprint/original carrier radio in bootloader and it all came back. Worth a try i guess. Good luck.

After I updated it im now stuck on 3g and cannot connect to 4G. Did this happen to you?
Im glad that worked for you too man. No I still had/have 4g on ATT network after. Unfortunately thats about the extent of my knowledge as far as radios go, but to double check, I believe there is a forum on here that lists the correct radio #s for each device.
