Hi,
I am trying to edit the "mixer_path" file in the system/etc folder in order to solve the problem with the noise in the headphone jack.
The phone is rooted and running CM12.1 and when I try to save the file after editing, it says it can't save the file. Even if I copy the file to another folder and try editing it there (with ES editor)
What should I do? (the permission were set to -rw-r-r- or 644.
Thanks in advance!

Push file to PC and edit it there?
Well, now I've edited the file accordingly but the phone won't play any track, or any sound at all, for that matter. Doesn't ring etc'... S:
Have any idea why?
So I installed CM12.1 again to fix the problem, but now when I copied the file from system\etc to somewhere on the sdcard, I can't see it when I open the folder on the computer. How come?

I know the location of the "droid" sound is at "/system/customize/resource/VZW_Droid.mp3", and I've got a file I want to replace it with, but astro file manger can't seem to do it.
Does anyone know how to do this?
I've attached the sound I want to replace it with, in case any of you like it. It's the turret from portal.
just use root explorer to paste over the sound file in the resource folder.. i just tried it with the "i see you" turret sound.. worked but the timing is off..
rename the file to android_audio.mp3
do adb in recovery
adb push android_audio.mp3 /system/customize/resource
you do the above from the directory on your pc where the android_mp3 file is stored..
if this does not work then try putting the boot animation zip file (file name renamed to bootanimation.zip) and android_audio.mp3 to /system/media folder

It tells me that I "Cannot paste here because the file system is read only".
EDIT:
Sorry, the way to fix it was obvious. just hit the r/w button at the top right.
And root explorer is amazing. It's worth the money!
And to make it sync up, you need a few seconds of silence at the beginning of the sound file. Check out the one I attached to see how much time it needs
I tried searching and didnt find what I was looking for
Can someone explain how to make a .txt file? I was wanting to modify my power widgets in MikFroyo and I am lost as to what program to use to make it. Thanks for the help
You can use any word processor, the easiest one is probably notepad or wordpad. When you save the file make sure to select .txt as the file type
If you mean on your phone, get es file explorer from the market. Then you just hit: menu new and name it with a .txt at the end of the file name
Ok, so I got how to make the .txt file but using ES file explorer it wont let me paste/move it into the system>customize directory... It just says "copy failed"...
Also, the permission set on the existing widget.txt file are set to read only so I cant just modify that one...
I got it to copy one time and upon reboot the phone stuck at the white HTC EVO screen.. had to android back to pre-messed up copied file...
Anybody already done this and know what I'm missing?
The reason it is not copying is because the system is mounted read only.you can try going into settings in es and go to root options at the bottom. Those options don't work on all roms but you can check it out and see. Mount as read write and then you should be able to copy to system

Alright, so I used the "experimental" feature to copy the .txt file into the system>customize directory and it actually worked, I have my power widgets the way I want them now..
But, I tried it again a little bit ago and ES file Exlp wouldnt let me use that feature... It kept saying that "mounting failed, this feature wont work on your phone."... Any idea what's up with that?
thanks for the help BTW
I recently put together a battery icon and boot loader in UOT Kitchen, if I install the file I edited form zip will it format anything or just change what ever I edited?
I'm running RMK Gingerbreadsense
It should just change what you've edited, but make a backup just in case.
If you flash the .zip it won't modify any other files that are not inside the .zip

speaking of this kitchen, i was trying to change my boot animation and found a 'bootanimation.zip' file on my phone....
although kitchen is asking me to upload a system.ui file or some com.htc.resources.apk file
the system file is on my phone but keeps saying it's "read only" and won't let me do anything with it.. and the other file doesn't seem to exist.
that and "kitchen's list" doesn't even show the rom i'm using anyway.
what gives?
[EDIT] actually any of the .apk files in the system/apps folder say "read only".
[EDIT 2] - i found the com.htc.resources.apk file, but i can't get around the 'ready only' on the systemui.apk file - is there a way to remove read only status?
[EDIT 3] - damn terminal won't even allow it: "Unable to chmod /system: Read-only file system"
I have a copy of all the roms I use so I just extracted RMK Gingersense and got the files, put on desktop, then uploaded them with out a problem. I haven't installled customized files though lol I don't want to brick or ruin anything. Might just end up doing it though.
To the person with the read-only problems: were you using root explorer when you were browsing those system folders? You have to mount R/W, there's a button on the upper right.

that worked. thank you!
What's good, Androideers?
I was wondering.....
If you want to add a boot_audio.mp3 file for a bootanimation, where would you put the boot_audio.mp3 file?
I vaguely remember seeing a boot_audio.mp3 while browsing through the contents of a ROM.zip. I can't remember if I saw the file in the system/media/audio/ringtones folder, or the system/media/audio/notifications folder. I just know it was around there, somewhere.
If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
To add audio when you boot,
1) convert and rename your file to "PowerOn.wav" and
2) place in /system/etc/
3) Set Permissions rw-r--r--
3) Reboot!
(You can also use "1_Power_On.ogg" in /system/etc)

can anyone please verify this method works. trying to set a boot audio file using aokp settings, but it states the must be placed in system/media folder. does this make a difference?
Most UI sounds can be found and replaced simply in /system/media/audio/ui, but not so with the screen unlock sound. Replacing it is rather more involved. I'll assume some familiarity with using adb to move files around and rename them.
Tools you need: WinRAR, adb, zipalign
Procedure:
Create new unlock sounds named "lens_flare_unlock.ogg" and "lens_flare_tap.ogg". These can be oggs or mp3s but the files must be named exactly as stated with the .ogg extension.
Copy /system/framework/framework-res.apk to your computer and make a backup copy.
Rename your working copy to framework-res.zip
Double-click to open the file in WinRAR.
In WinRAR navigate to res/raw. You should see the files to be replaced.
Drag your replacement files into WinRAR and (here's the important part) in the Compression Method drop-down choose "Store".
Hit OK in WinRAR. Make sure the Size and Packed columns are the same for the replaced files. If they aren't you didn't choose 'Store' as the compression method.
Close WinRAR.
zipalign the file with this command: "zipalign 4 framework-res.zip framework-res.apk.mod"
Reboot the phone into recovery and plug it in. See this thread to get adb working.
Mount /system.
Use adb to push framework-res.apk.mod to /system/framework.
In /system/framework rename framework-res.apk (the original) to framework-res.apk.orig (so you have a convenient backup.)
Rename framework-res.apk.mod to framework-res.apk
chmod 644 framework-res.apk
Reboot and you should be good.
If your boot gets stuck after the T-Mobile animation something has gone wrong. To recover, reboot to recovery and use adb to rename framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.mod and rename framework-res.apk.orig to framework-res.apk
If someone can tells us how to add files uncompressed using 7zip or Winzip that would be great. I used WinRAR because it's what I had.
You can also try replacing framework-res.apk using this method but I haven't.
thank you! ive been trying to figure this out! now if only I coudl find a way to change the actual lens flare to the lightning ive been seeing on youtube.

How would I go about replacing the key press tone for my device? Currently it's the stock water droplet sound. Would I need adb since it is a system file? Or is there another method that would allow me to override this?

cant you just replace the ogg files and that would be that??
btw how do you get the file to your computer and back?
Man this seems tough
