Annoyed by the fact that motorola is still proposing in each new device this irritating ascending ringtone I tryed to look into the system and found a fix
It seems to work for me, but let me know if it's ok in all your different scenarios and devices :good:

Tested this fix on my Canadian (XT1563) Moto X Play on Koodo, and it works for the most part.
The volume for ringtones, alarms and notification begins much louder than they initially did before applying the fix, but it still seems to start off at a lower volume and ascend to the set volume level. However, this fix does actually make the initial volume clearly audible nonetheless so I will say, it could use some tweaking but is still, overall, a working fix. Thanks.
EDIT: To give more detailed feedback, I looked into the files and noticed the stock starts attenuating at 36 and moves through each of the 16 levels while gradually attenuating less and less at certain steps. The fix attenuates 0 across all 16 steps. However it sounds like it is still attenuating at approximately 3 or 4 at the first few steps then moves to 0 attenuation. Not sure why as the file clearly shows 0 attenuation across all 16 steps. Maybe it's just my ears not hearing it properly, or maybe it's the ringtone itself that has additional attenuation. I'm using the "Hangouts Call" ringtone.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll check that! I was happy with this result so I didn't compared the same sound from the music player and from a call.
If it's still not at the max volume I'll try with other settings/files when I have time

I got hold of Motorola product developement. They said that it is not a glitch, it is something that was requested by Google and is set in the hardware of the phone so it can not be changed.

HELLO GUYS..
IM making this thread a little different then the others...This thread is designed to mod out the DEFAULT_GAIN.CONFG FILE...to everyone needs..I will attempt to help you all by making more specific mods to suit your needs,And we can help each other as well. Instead of this just having it increase all your volumes...I figured most just want one or two within it...like just "incall" speaker level.....or whatever else..
The Default_Gain.conf is located in SYSTEM/ETC
First off this is the "default" file in case you mess up or just need it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?qz8qo3oefx11r4e
When applying this file...SAVE YOUR OLD DEFAULT_GAIN.CONF FILE SOMEWHERE .... TAKE YOUR NEW FILE AND PUT IT IN SYSTEM/ETC SET PERMISSIONS AS THE OLD ONE...REBOOT AND MAkE A TEST CALL..USALLY VOICEMAIL IS EASIER...
Thanks to Edgabimbam and his thread for a reference.. Found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931970
PLEASE HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPS !
THIS IS MODIFIED FILE SECTION:
1.(Incall earpiece) set at 60 instead of (default is 53)

2.(Incall earpiece & Incall loudspeaker] 59 level

ALSO INCASE YOUR NOT AWARE THERE ACTUALLY IS A INCALL BOOST FOR YOUR EARPIECE....WHEN CALLING OUT...LOOK AT THE SCREEN ONCE IT CONNECTS..THERE IS A LITTLE VOLUME BOOST BUTTON WHICH INCREASES IT..MANY ARENT EVEN AWARE OF THIS...before applying this mod you may want to consider this???.
I'm happy with everything on mine except headphone volume. I'm almost exclusively on bt, which is fine, but have my earphones for when the bt dies, and the volume is very low.
Edit- your a busy fella, appreciate what you do for the community.

Ok..if your incall earpiece was to loud...I can show you what to edit...so you text test and play with settings...?...look for the proper field..then change the output level. Stock is usally 53... changing it a few up..will help big time..anything over 60 will get the crackle sound....heres some screen shots so you can try out different tweaks yourself...you may enjoy learning..
Heres where you can edit some cids..for example in this screen**** was incall earpiece....underneath it is incall speaker...which is the loud speaker.
Hi Folks,
I need your support. I´m using the Viper Rom 3.2.4 and I would like to change the volume for incoming calls.
The lowest volume is still to loud, people around me can hear what the caller say.
Do I have a chance to change it maybe in the Build Prop. ?

Little Update!
After changing the settings in the File, I have problems with the sound.
Can someone provide me the standard settings from the Build Prop. File?
Thx
I don't know if your issue is related to your ROM, but having too high lowest volume sometimes happened to me on the stock ROM after reboots. I (accidentally) found out raising the volume a few steps, then taking it back down will make it go to the actual lowest volume.
I've seen loads of threads for other devices and now I got mad because the volume wasn't enough for me, so I decided to create one for Z1.
It will work with EVERY FIRMWARE/ROM/KERNEL. from 4.2.2 to 4.4, just choose the correct option in Aroma
It's compatible with Viper4android - confirmed.
It was made possible by @SuperHanss . I used this guide to see what needs to be edited. Please thank him, because I wouldn't be able to do this without him.
That's not just copy and paste from another mod, so audio quality remains the same because I just made audio output number different.
Enable "dynamic equaliser" in sound options/equaliser to get the full boost. I found out that if it's disabled, the volume is much lower.
UPDATE 31.05.2014 z1 volume mod 2.5 (latest version)
Fixed headphones in-call and made it an option along with earpiece.
Download - HERE
UPDATE 07.05.2014
Added earpiece boost (small speaker used to hear the person in a call) only for android 4.4. I also propably fixed aroma installer this time.
UPDATE 09.04.2014
Updated the files with those from .757 FTF to fix the routing issue. (Audio from earpiece instead of from the speaker)
UPDATE 05.04.2014 Latest version - Z1 headphones volume mod 2.2 JB&KK AROMA.zip
Added speaker boost for all roms!
DEAF volume works great on 4.4! It's terribly loud!
Please report any issues!
I know that speaker is a bit distorted at the highest volume, I decided to leave it that way because some tracks are recorded quieter than others.
If the aroma installer wont work for you then unpack the zip, open aroma, choose your android version, choose whether you want headphones or headphones+speaker boost, choose the volume boost of your choice, go to the etc folder in there and move mixer_paths.xml file from there to /system/etc, change mixer_paths.xml permissions to those of other file in that directory and then reboot and it'll work. Currently this issue occurs only on the monx's rom.
Coming soon:
Maybe bluetooth
Of course you will be able to choose any of those volumes independently.
Boost for more devices (all android volume boost is my target)
There might be a problem with the mod. It fails to extract files on some roms and recoveries, no idea why. If you don't hear any change in volume then do this.
1. extract the latest zip
2. Choose your android and desired boost
3. copy mixer_paths.xml of your choice and paste it into /system/etc
4. Fix permissions in recovery or correct them by yourself (they should be set the same as other files in /system/etc
5. reboot
If you want to help me with fixing aroma installer, then please do this, I'll add you to the credits with a link with to post with your fix so people could "thank you" in that post.
Boost is tested with:
Z1
Z1c
Z Ultra
DON'T DOWNLOAD VERSIONS FROM ATTACHMENTS ANYMORE!

Different headphones have different resistance, some people have bad hearing, some people like to listen to music LOUD,some people are using on-head headphones in crowded places sometimes they don't have any kind of noise canncelation so they have to set it really loud.
I can create a quiet version of this mod if you want, no problem.

I can't really tell what needs to be edited for bluetooth. :/
Headphones are increased from 75 to 110, I kept speaker at stock because after you enable XLoud it's pretty loud, if you set it even louder, the audio will be seriously distorted.

I have been able to do this with my old phone, an S3 with the Boeffla kernel installed...I dont think the Boeffla can be installed on the ZF2 but there may be other kernels that offer the option of enhancing the volume....

What headphones are you using? I'm using Viper and depending on my settings, I can make a $8 pair of Panasonic earbuds sound like they cost hundreds. I use various SOL Republic over ear and ear buds that sound incredible without any distortion. I can give you some settings ideas if you'd like. When using Viper also, I find you get better results if you leave the ASUS Audio Wizard enabled and set to Music Mode
I'm using Aurisonics Forte IEMs. The bass, when it hits, tends to drown out, or fade the mids and highs. I'll try turning on music mode, I've got it off right now.
*edit* Okay, don't like music mode on with Viper. Adds a weird echo effect. I did figure out I was using the gain wrong, so I've made that adjustment. Have to give it more of a listen, but it's better.
Well, I went to poweranpapp.com, and downloaded the Intel version of the app. Supposed to savethe battery life, and improve sound. Not bad, but I still wish the phone was louder.

I've heard also you have to set viper to impassive (linux) rw.+...tried the app and gave su permission to no avail.
I have edit mixer path to have more volume out from speakers and headhpones
Backup original file from
/etc (file) mixer_paths.xml
And copy this one to there... then chance permission to rw-r--r--
The file will overwrite itself whit the one located also on
/System/etc
If you dont do it this way for some reason you may have some sort of problems where some app doesn't hear and video lags
Reboot then your set... enjoy and please hit the thaks bottom

I have edit mixer path to have more volume out from speakers and headhpones
Backup original file from
/etc (file) mixer_paths.xml
And copy this one to there... then chance permission to rw-r--r--
The file will overwrite itself whit the one located also on
/System/etc
If you dont do it this way for some reason you may have some sort of problems where some app doesn't hear and video lags
Reboot then your set... enjoy and please hit the thaks bottom

Click to collapse
Will this fix work on. .33?

Check it out, but every build is changing the structure mixer_paths.xml.
You can edit the file yourself mixer_paths.xml in its sole discretion.
