Unlimited tether issue's (wifi tether router app) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hello everyone, so I'm having a issue tethering unlimited right now. I am able to tether but the usage is still being counted toward my 5gb limit.
I'm using Fabio grasio's Wifi tether router app and am currently running hyperdrive rom with compulsion kernel. I have my apn setup as fast.t-mobile.com with apn type default, supl, dun and Ipv4 for both. These settings have worked for sometime and starting last month I noticed my limit was being reached.
Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Did you ever figure this out?
I've been using WiFi Tether Router for over year with zero issues. I have an Android head unit in my car so I tether data during my commute to work. Recently I had to restore my phone to factory defaults, and I'm noticing now that using WiFi Tether Router counts against my 7GB Hotspot Limit. I didn't realize this until I reached the limit, and now my Hotspot data is being throttled to an unusable 120kbps even when using WiFi Tether Router.
I don't know if this is something that has changed on T-Mobile/WiFi Tether Router's side, or if I am no longer properly configured after having reset my phone and reinstalled everything from scratch.
This sucks!

Just FYI I am using wireless tether 2 0 5 pre15
I also have this problem, it behaves the same way on the g1.
I had this problem since 11/30 and finally its back up to speed today 12/9.
My speeds went down to .10-.40m and pages wouldnt load and had to diagnose connection with IE8. It was horrible and I couldnt figure out why.
===
Heres what I did but I dont know which step fixed the wireless tether.
Installed easy tether and pdanet on g2 and pc.
Tethered with each one for several times a day.
I then tethered with the tmobile wireless tether and usb tether.
Again with each one.
Then leave the usb cable attached and dont use the above tether options.
Start wireless tether and speed should be normal.
If speeds are normal then all is fine, if not idk.

what kind of speeds are you getting now? FYI I am using Chorme
My avg speeds at home is 3.0-4.0mbps tethered because I only get 2 bars and it jumps from hdspa to umts.
I get this speed using android and tmobile tether.
With easytether and pdanet the speeds go down to 1.0-2.0mbps, dont know why.
I also changed the ssid, dont use android or tether as part of the ssid.
Changed the channel, checked the box for disable wake lock and disable screen lock.

But if you use Tmobile tether don't they charge you and extra $15 a month?
Whats with the 14.99 fee? I tether on my g2 everyday useing wireless hotspot with a WEP key and i get no messages GB this month....no restriction or throttle....
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Check your bill and let me know if u have been charged

I tried using the tether built in to the phone and your right no data charge. But its freaking slower than Android Tether. Im only getting about .5Mbps. My phone on its own is running over 4Mbps. There has to be a solution to this! AHHH
Ok, I'm trying to figure out the fix, in case it happens again.
Did you try wireless tether on a different pc?
What was your speeds on your pc and other pc using easytether and pdanet?
Did you leave easytether and pdanet software installed on pc and phone?
Did you do a reboot AND not root, then use tmobile wireless and usb tether?
Try running tmobile wireless tether and android wireless together to see which one connects at a faster speed.

Sprint to nix 'unlimited' from mobile broadband and hotspot plans

so i understand that this change only applies to hotspot tethering devices and not the smartphone data usage but what if you are using hotspot hack and running sprint hotspot app to tether?

If the hotspot app works like wifi tether in which it tries to mask your tether data as coming from your phone it will seem like to me that it won't be counted against you. But if the hotspot hack just allows you to use the app without paying for it then you may have the limits.

Naw, the way the stock wifi tether works is that it disconnects and connects to a different realm whenever you turn on the hotspot (so you have two different data meters). If you don't pay for the hotspot, you can't connect to the modem realm. However, the wifi tether just stays connected to the phone realm.
That said, they can tell if you are tethering, and if you data hog and tether you'll probably getting a polite letter from them telling you to pay or get cancelled and pay ETF
this have any effect on being rooted and using wifi tether app?

I also vote for Fabios WiFi Tether router, I've had an issue and he kept working through it with me without delay. I usually got a response from him within 30 minutes.
I also run Private Internet Access VPN app on the phone, any device that connects to the hotspot is automatically encrypted through the VPN so Tmo can't tell what kind of traffic it is. I've used 30 gigs a month this way for months without an issue.

Thanks for the info!
1. Is Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN app free?
I read somewhere about a $35 annual fee, but perhaps that is not needed?
2. So by encrypting the traffic, you're saying T-Mobile does not know whether the traffic is standard data usage (e.g. web browsing on the Note 3 itself) or whether the traffic (data being used) is from running a hotspot on the Note 3 and connecting to it from an external device (laptop, table etc.)?
Just interested in understanding the technology and alternatives better (I have not needed wifi tethering on my Note 3 so far, not even the included 2.5 GB but I enjoy understanding it all either way).
I have 2 methods that I use on my phone.
FIRST THING IS TO CREATE THE EXACT SAME TMOBILE APN EXCEPT CHANGE IT FROM IP6 TO IP4.
TO BE EXACT I JUST CREATE A 2ND APN AND IN THE WAP FIELD I USE "fast.t-mobile.com" I LEAVE ALL OTHER FIRLD BLANK.
When I want to send a MMS I just activate the TMobile Stock APN. When I tether I activate my custom APN.
Now the 1st method I use is using the STOCK TETHERING option.
Activate the Stock APN and Turn On Stock Tethering. "This is IF you have the 2.5GB tethering on your account. After the tethering is activated, on the computer you have to use a custom UA string on your web browser. For me I use "Google Chrome" and I installed the plugin "Ultimate User Agent Switcher" and I use the "Kindle" option. This will allow for full web access and TMobile will think your using a Kindle tablet.
Torrents also work since you have the ip4 APN activated.
My 2nd method is using USB Tethering to my PC with PDANet. Install PDANet on your phone and on the PC. And also have the custom APN activated in network settings. In PDANet Settings, go to HIDE TETHER USAGE VERSION 2. This will allow for FULL web use without the need for changing UA Strings.
With this method, I am also able to share the connection to my LAN port which is hooked to my NetGear Router so i can then ((RESHARE)) the connection again to my XBOX and PS3 and other devices allowing them to just connect to my router as normal.
Those are the 2 methods I use. I have LTE in my area and I do about 4MB/s or 40Mbps on average.
For this current month I have used at least 107GB for the month even though my plan is 2.5GB...

Thanks a lot for the detailed instructions and info.
I am a noob with Note 3 tethering options since I have not needed it at all (not even the 2.5 GB included), so I appreciate the specifics to help my understanding.
QUESTION re. method 1, "stock tethering, stock APN but UA switcher and custom UA profile (I assume this custom profile is done via UA switcher"?):
Does this method allow streaming on the connected device (laptop or tablet)? I.e. do I just need to go to my web browser to 'activate' the tethering connection?
Or do I need to do USB tethering with PDANet to allow streaming on the device that is tethered to my Note 3?
Thanks again!

1. PIA service is not free, I got a deal off of slickdeals.net that came to something around $22 a year if I'm not mistaken. But even at $35 I think its worth it. I use it on my home PC and all my mobile devices. I don't need an ISP seeing what I browse
2. Yes, you're correct about T-Mobile not being able to differantiate the traffic. Once I forgot to turn on VPN and after a while I got redirected to their page stating that I've exceeded the allowance. As soon as I engaged VPN I was able to browse right away again.
3. Sure there are free alternatives that might work, but with this solution I know I'm 100% safe not only from exceeding my allowance but also from any other prying eyes

Using VPN does work. The problem I had with using a VPN is that you dont get your full 4G or full LTE speed since all your data has to be encrypted to go through the VPN server.
Using the 2 methods I provided you not only get to bypass the 2.5 GB but you all get FULL 4G LTE speeds to your tethered devices.

Streaming on either of my methods work. If you go with the stock wifi tether, you just have to change your APN settings under network opetion on your phone from ip6 to ip4. THis is done by just creating a NEW APN and put in "fast.t-mobile.com" for your APN setting. After that is done, you can tether to other tablets or phones perfectly since those are mobile devices. For computers you have to change the UA String of your browser to a tablet or android device.
If you use the PDA Net method, you dont have to change the UA String, since the program itself has a way of blocking what kind of traffic is going through.

Yeah, so long story short, without VPN I still get full web access, and unlimited data.
Sharing the connection to my home Netgear router even extends the connection even further.
Love TMobile Unlimited data.

I use PDANet to Tether my phone via USB.
After that connection is established, depending on your version of windows, run your router to the LAN port on your computer and in NetWork Settings in Windows, set up ICS which is Internet Connection Sharing.
After that, you may have to power cycle the router to pick up the ip address and all that but from there, everything connected to the router will get full web access also. PDANet has a feature in the settings to hide your data traffic similer to using VPN so all data is counted as Phone Data and not Tethering.
At this rate, may be a while before I turn my Comcast back on. LTE also provides low latency and ping numbers.
Only down side I can see if during online games, when the NAT is more complex due to all the routing going on.

I use my tethering mostly for playing a few online games while I am at work(They really don't expect me to work the WHOLE time do they). It sounds like the second option would work better for me since the first option requires a UA switcher which you can't really for for say World of Warcraft. Is that accurate?
Why wouldn't you use wifi hotspot? Just curious. Weighing my options. Btw, thanks, I'm tethered using pdanet!

WiFi Tether Router

Has anyone got WiFi Tether Router to work on the M9? It worked on my M8, but I'm having issued with it on the rooted M9. Or, any other wifi hotspot ideas?
I have an HTC M9 - and recently unlocked the bootloader, rooted and S-Off. (BTW im on Tmobile). After monkeying with the settings in settings.db and the build.prob doc, i got the normal tethering to work on my viper one rom.
I cannot for the life of me get wifi tether router working, and for the time bing have installed FoxFi.
My largest issue is no SSID displays for wifi tether router. It seems to boot but cannot see it on any other devices.
While my FoxFi installation gives me some unlimited tethering, it seems anything that comes across http is metered. While torrent tests do not get metered.
Hoping the wifi tether author fixes the application for the m9. Until then I'll have to live with some small metering on my device.
Hope this helps, if I find some setting combination that works I'll post, though nothing I have found so far works.

Very slow tethering

One of the most important things this phone does for me is tethering, and it's done a wonderful job of it until a few days ago when I couldn't get more than 20Kb/s (but it's still good enough to game smoothly on around 100ms ping, and it's also capable of certain browsing, like Google searches). I have net provisioning off in the build.prop file and I'm on T-Mobile's LTE most of the time.
So far I've tried to change my APN to enable dun, and it worked for a few hours but the next time I turned on hotspot it dropped back down. I've been trying to edit settings.db to change the tether_dun_required field to 0 which I have heard works. So far I have not been able to see the file any way I try to access it.
Solutions please?
Hello!
Try to switch APN to ipv4 mode.
By some reason the default t-mobile APN fast.t-mobile.com doesn't have data connectivity if i selected ipv4 only.
So i found that they have other APN epc.tmobile.com and setup it as ipv4 only - this did the trick for me.
I'm on cm13 from 1st day when received the phone early July - had the same issue with tethering speed + frequent loses of data on hotspot (while phone itself had LTE connectivity the same time).
Troubleshooting the tetherinng connetivity issues i did noticed that in case of data loss:
- the private ipv4 interface 192.0.0.4 used for tethering is down in such cases;
Looking in the internet i saw advice to switch to ipv4 only and it fixed both speed and connectivity.
Probably you crossed your hotspot tethering limit. By any chance are you on T-Mobile? If so, the tethering gets automatically throttled once you cross the hotspot cap limit. It is 5GB on an unlimited data plan, in case, if you are on that plan. Try checking with your provider if it is the case.
However, the hotspot llimit gets reset for every billing cycle.
