Hi,
Some of you may recognize this issue, and I apologize if I annoy some people by making this thread, but I'm really running out of options.
I own Xperia Play r800i. It's rooted, but bootloader is locked, preventing me from installing any custom roms. Unfortunately, official unlock is not possible with this phone, as service menu has the infamous "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No" setting and I have no clue how to get rid of it.
One major problem is the amount of confusion and disinformation running amok in the internet. Depending on where you look for info, you will get answers wildly varied. Some people will say it's possible, some say it's not, some say there's a program that can do it automatically for you, others will say that the whole thing is outright impossible and suggest buying a new phone. Some say Sony can do it, for free, others will send you on your way to mobile operator, who can unlock it for a fee.
I also heard about the "testpoint method", which involves pressing a paperclip on the dots on the inside of your phone and then connect it to the wire or something... and attach it to the battery? Or terminal? I'm a bit confused about this thing. The only guide I found (on XDA) is a bit inprecise and one of the pictures is missing.
While researching, I found a site with a tool that supposedly can unlock Bootloader in this case. It's here: "bootloader-unlock-allowed-no-solution.blogspot.com". People behind it claim that it works with cases like mine. To be honest, something is not right here, and I feel it may be a scam. Of course, internet remains silent about this site.
The questions and answers on this very forum covers this case and suggests contacting member "Alejandrissimo", who can supposedly solve this issue for a fee. I've tried to contact him via email and have yet to receive a sign of life from him. Additionally, his site mentioned in the topic appears to be dead.
Please help me. I'm running out of ideas. I'm prepared to pay if I have to, and the last thing I'd wanna do is to abandon this phone because I can't unlock it. I fell in love with XPlay, but deficit of power and its extremely sluggish and outdated stock rom are a very major issue here.
Alright, problem solved. I'll post it for anybody facing similar problems in the future.
First off, from what I learned, the site "bootloader-unlock-allowed-no-solution.blogspot.com" appears to be a scam. Don't bother going there - it's not gonna help.
Many people from various forums point to "Alejandrissimo" member of this forum, and supposedly, he can unlock bootloader in this situation over the internet, if you pay him. At this point I still got no reply from him, after attempting to contact him by e-mail, XDA forum private message, or even Google Hangouts.
Running out of ideas, I decided to contact local GSM repair centers, and I found one which said they can try unlocking it. For a very small fee (translating to something like less than 15$) and after an hour of attempting various methods, the guy at the repair center finally managed to unlock bootloader on my phone with testpoint method and the X Unlock program. The settting at the service menu changed to "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes" and I've succesfully connected the phone to PC in fastboot and bootloader modes (green LED and blue LED respectively).
Case solved. Thread can be locked.

The testpoint method or the s1tool method as its properly called is the easiest method. Why does this work? Well in the Xperia 2011 and all phones there is a peice of code called a flag this flag checks bootloader unlock allowed no. 2011 Xperia have a point in the battery are which if connected to ground will temporarily remove this flag. Which will allow you to flash custom firmware in the form of ftf after the but custom firmware is only in. . Img? No LoOpy made a thread containing most firmwares in. Ftf so they can be flashed. X Unlock will unlock everything completely if you do s1 on Xperia play. Wonder if this works with r800x. Anyway there are actually MANY MANY MANY many threads on this subject but it is always nice to have more as looking through old fossilized threads is so annoying Alejandrissimo has been a dead member since 2013 no idea where's he's gotten do but he clearly doesn't do anything XDA related anymore almost none of the devs in 2011 will grace got with an answer for whatever reason. Either they've been annoyed to death with repetitive questions or they just got tired of it either way here's a list
Bin4ry will sometimes answer
Alejandrissimo never
Condi yes but just to say hi
Blagus no
Doomlord almost never and if he does it will be in yes or no fashion extremely curt or irritated.
Androxyde never not even on Twitter

Thanks for your reply. Well, first off, from what I've learned, s1tool would not work at all with this case. It only works with "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes" from what I know.
Don't know about other phones, but for owners of r800i (or just anything else equipped with test points) facing similar problem I had - unless you own X Unlock or SETool2, just bring your phone to a GSM repair service and ask them to unlock it for you - it's the most surefire way, and this kind of service should be very cheap. Be careful though - make sure those guys know what you're talking about and they know what they are doing, as this is a very obscure and rare problem.

You are very incorrect my freind. S1tool is a small subset of setool. It's SPECIFIC PURPOSE is to unlock bootloader allowed: no phones that's what it does. Using the testpoint temporarily removes the bootloader unlock allowed no flag and allows you to unlock the bootloader. Which is what I explained and you failed to understand for some reason. The bootloader status will still say no but it will be unlocked on 2011 phones before 12w31days. The advantage of s1tool is that it preserves drm by having the phone say bootloader unlock allowed no while still being unlocked. If your a noob like yourself than taking it to a service is a good idea if there is one around.
It's how I unlocked my first Android phone, the play and a few others. Your way of doing it is all well and good if there is someone who does this service in your area.
Services like xunlocker are garbage and often freeze and take your money then when you ask for a refund they are more silent then death. Setool if you want to do it yourself will cost 100$ dollars as that is how much the hardware costs. This problem is also not rare as ALL network locked phones will not allow you to unlock the bootloader. However once you have paid for the phone in full you can take it to the store and they will network unlock it for 50$ you can also at the same time have a technician unlock the bootloader which is by far the easiest way to have this done.

I don't know how different the GSM variants are, but four out of the six r800x units I've owned (All four are Verizon branded) all reported the bootlocker unlock status as "No" yet they all were unlockable after running fastboot with the command the Sony Mobile site generated.
One of them I thought was actually being truthful since I couldn't get it to unlock on the first attempt, but realized it was due to accidentally entering a lower case hex digit in the MEID on the Sony web form (Bad coding on their part: case should be irrelevant for hexadecimal). Once I ran it with all caps the generated code unlocked it fine.

I called HTC UK support a few days ago not for my wildfire s but my sons, it has a dodgy power button really hard to press and sometimes no response, hitting the side of the phone helps lol, so maybe a loose connection between the flex cable and connector.
It has always been a bit unresponsive since first purchase but wasn't too bad, I guess I only noticed it because mine was so much easier to press, anyway it has been getting worse over time.
So HTC asked if it was rooted or had been s-off as if it was they would not do the repair without a charge of £50-£60 and stated the engineers will check for this before any work is carried out.
I argued that the problem was hardware related and not software/firmware and it should be covered but they dissagreed.
I think this is poor customer service.
If I bricked my phone then I wouldn't argue, it would be my problem but this is faulty hardware so I'm pissed.
I will do the repair myself when it gets to a point that it becomes a real problem for my son, as I used to repair mobiles in a shop and currently repair pc's.
Just would've been nice to have the warranty option.
Anyway moral of the story s-off or unlocked bootloader don't expect any kind of warranty from HTC whether a software or hardware issue.
Edit: almost forgot. I asked if I send it would they flash the firmware as I didn't want them to!
Their response was they would flash the phone whether I want them to or not even though its a hardware issue.
How crazy is that.
THANKS HTC AND SHAME ON YOU :banghead:
That's bad. But I think it depends also on the country you live in. Some countries, like mine have specific laws for such a case. That means, if e.g. the defect is not caused by a software issue, they have to do the repair.
Yeah I might send a letter to a UK customer service manager and see what kind of response I get.
Good luck. You should also consider - if your son's device is already unlocked - to downgrade a stock rom. I somehow doubt that htc people check, if the device has gone through the htcdev process. They maybe just check HBOOT and if there is neither LOCKED (OOW), UNLOCKED nor RELOCKED, they think it's okay.
Didn't htcdev it.
Xtc clipped it but either way I told the guy its stock etc etc but he didn't care.
He said they've had a few phones returned to customers without repair because the engineers check the bootloader and htcdev.
In Germany you have different kinds of liability from the manufacturer's side.
If the malfunction appears within the first 6 months, it is generally believed to be a manufacturing fault and if the manufacturer doesn't want to replace it, he has to prove that it was not.
If the malfunction appears after more than 6 months, but less than 24 months, the manufacturer still has to replace devices that failed due to a manufacturing fault, but the burden of proof is on the consumer side. Obviously it's hard for a consumer to prove that the malfunction is due to a manufacturing fault, so if the manufacturer refuses to replace the device you're probably gonna fight a losing battle. However, most manufacturers will stil replace the device as anything else would harm their reputation.
The manufacturer cannot ask you to agree to forfeit either of these claims, as such an agreement would be void. However, after more than 24 months you're definitely out of luck from the legal point of view. You will only get service if you signed up for a special maintenance contract with the manufacturer, which obviously is only relevant for very expensive and long-lasting goods.

You have to provide them some kind of unique identifier for your device before they give you the unlock token. I think they know which serial the device had that this identifier is from and will then check the serial against some database.
They asked me the condition and as I explained its my sons its in a brand new condition in a case not been out the house really as he uses his blackberry outside.
It's about 7 months old.
Not sure about the law in the UK. Getting in contact with some jurist will probably help. I don't know where you're working, but most bigger companies have some kind of "legal department". Maybe you can contact one of your colleagues while relaxing over a beer.
A lawyer will probably charge far more than the phone's worth.

You are right. And I also found out, that whatever you do, whatever you down or upgrade the state of the bootloader lock persists.
I downgraded to an older ROM ,thus getting back HBOOT 1.08.0000. after installing HTCDEV HBOOT again, it remembered the RELOCKED state. When you first flash the HTCDEV HBOOT you get LOCKED (OOW). So somewhere this information is stored.

Most of the security-related information is stored along with the Radio firmware. S-ON/S-OFF is, CID is, SIM-Lock is, so bootloader lock is probably too.
HTC is not who you need to talk to. You need to go to the store where you bought the thing.
Went there today (o2 store) the guy basically said if that's what HTC said then its my hard luck.

What an ass hole lol.
I would just spam HTC customer support up with complaints like I did when there was no bootloader unlock. They don't like me anymore. It also kills there reputation badly so they will say things to try and make up for it.
Just call or email them again, hope you get some stupid ass HTC woman who don't know jack **** about phones and gives you a free HTC One X as a replacement lol.

I've been bombing their inbox for days now about getting ANY Marvelc kernel sources. They keep refering me to http://htcdev.com/contact, and I keep responding that I have, and I want Marvelc sources. I must admit, I'm not being nice anymore either.
"Danielle" is taking it in stride though.
This sort of behaviour is not unheard of. in 2007 my daughter bought a Compaq laptop with a international warranty. She went to Nottingham and had a problem. When contacted HP essentially said that take it back to India for repairs, and quoted some page (14 or something) of their web warranty, basically claiming that since the model was not sale in the UK (the numbers always change across borders) they did not want to know. Then she wrote back that she is a lawyer, and was a PG at Notts U. They immediately advised her to take it to the service centre in (or just at the fringe of) the campus. Then unit was sent to the HQ and was back with a new power board within three days (this too in the XMas period).
So you have to persist, and if possible bare your fangs to get anything done.
I've not done this with HTC but with other companies in the past i have told little white lies usually saying it wasn't a fault of mine even when it was.
What exactly are the warranty implications of using htcdev.com? Say if... my headphone port stopped working 6 months later, would they try and pull the whole "You unlocked your bootloader, therefore your warranty is void" stunt to avoid fixing it?
I'm getting impatient waiting for a properly reversible S-OFF method.
good point but i took the plunge this morning
...
Unlocking the Bootloader, will void most of, or possibly all, of your warranty depending the the situation.
Generally hardware issues will still be covered by your warranty after unlocking your Bootloader, however you are likely to be charged for us to reinstall the official ROM at the repair centre, the reason for this is that to carry out a warranty repair the phone must be in a warranty condition and this includes the software being as it was intended.
Additionally, if our technicians determine the cause of the hardware fault to be a direct cause of the software changes, then this will be out of warranty and chargeable also.
After your phone has been unlocked, even if you return it to a locked state there remains a record in the software that the Bootloader has been unlocked previously, and we have a record taken of which serial numbers have been unlocked.
I would discourage anyone from unlocking their Bootloader if they are not 100% aware and willing to accept the consequences.

this is an excerpt from an email i got from the htcdev support team. i was asking exactly the question you have, so unlocking is at one's own risk!
I'll stick to waiting it out...
I was actually going to start a similar thread. I do hope that there will be a dev somewhere that is/will work on S-OFF for this device. I'm OK with waiting because to be honest the only thing I really want is a CM9 build or a AOSP/AOKP build. I'm not really worried about the warranty for myself but I tend to sell my devices. I suspect others will be concerned.
Although I would love to get rid of these damn three dots. UGH!!!
thanks for the info above, was about what i thought, but nice to know. I will be holding off for as long as i can. Fingers crossed
I've been told on the IRC channel (#htc-one-x @ freenode) most aren't expecting an S-OFF method for a few months. That might be worth considering. I plan to wait at least a few weeks, if by then I haven't heard of any effort being spent on pursuing S-OFF I will most likely unlock using official method.
S-OFF seems to be beyond the abilities of the revolutionary team for new bootloaders. I may eat my words but it looks like they simply aren't good enough. Hopefully someone with the skills can achieve it.
I unlocked via HTC dev. Don't care about the warranty.

I think most of the Software "Bricks" you cant take care by yourself after you`ve unlocked and rooted.
If there is any Hardware damage caused by an manifacture issue you will get a new device for sure.
So feel free to unlock via HTCDev.com imo
As much as I hated signing my warranty away when I unlocked my handset, I do understand & respect HTC's position.
I think that for the most part, HTC will honour genuine hardware faults.
Faults that are likely to be caused by running custom ROM's, like burning out the CPU by overclocking, would not be honoured.
HTC are a good company, in my experience, and would not want to drive away the loyal customers who buy their devices because they "want" a HTC.
Don't let the post's you read about users who develop faults & issues put you off. The reason they post is because they have an issue, how many users signup just to say "everything works fine"?
But do understand the potential risks involved.
With that in mind... I can't wait forever for S-OFF. I'll go with htcdev.com and get insurance for my phone
Hey guys, do you think there will ever be a way of unlocking one x's bootloader without having to tell HTC you intend to do it? I presume that when you do so HTC automatically putts your device on a "rebel list" and if you ever need some official repair, they're gonna charge you extra. And I don't like that idea at all. Do you?
HTC have allowed people to unlock their phones but by doing so you essentially loose your warranty. By making you use their website to unlock, they know which phones have been unlocked and if your phone is returned for a software fault they can deny you a warranty claim.
At least they let you unlock in the first place! The choice is yours.
I do think that a work around will be found in time..

Yep, that's exactly what they did and I don't like it a smallest bit! I really miss the times of good old HSPL on my HD2. When something broke it took literally 5 minutes to put the phone back to stock and no one would be able to tell it ever was otherwise... I wonder what are the DFT guys doing these days!
Not correct so far you stay on original ROM but you can mabe get problem if you send phone for warranty claim with custom installed.
Lock bootloader and original ROM before you send it if needed
So you're saying that after I receive the unlock code from HTC they won't put my device into some badass database which later on they might use to disprove my (for example hardware fault) warranty claim?
Right, I have a R800i aka Xperia play from O2-UK
I have BL Unlock allowed: no (guessable from the title)
Before I take the plunge of paying $15 of my cash to some guy whom just happens to have bought the SETool box I want to 'verify' that all the Legends around the various myths are lies and that I coud'nt have avoided spending $15.
Firstly, a while ago I saw a guy post up that he also had a super-annoying-sony-carrier-love-locked-bootloader and he used S1Tool and unlocked it. Is this true? Any experiences? Here's the Original thread
Next, I came across several sites fastgsm and wotanserver, fonefunshop - both offered to do the service but required you to have 12W12 thing on the back. I have higher - 11W46 in fact.
Any other rumours? anyone?
I have it SIM UNLOCKED. And no matter how many times I talk to O2 the support is useless - they say check PC Companion and other stuff.
I'm ready to part with a maximum of $10. It's not like the $5 will kill me it's just I don't want to pay some random guy money cos you know - he'll run off with a joyful face and if it then turns out his hickary and ajigary did'nt work I'll be back at square one only with $15 less cash
Even if it say no, if you plug in the device when its off while holding the search, and the blue light turns on, then you maybe likely still be able to unlock it. If not, then you'll have to pay. Out side of those website which I haven't tried, there are only two person I am aware of that provide this unlocking server and they both are professional. Also I don't think they make any profit from it, though someone else will know better about this.

I have an r800i and was able to unlock its bootloader on my own without paying anything. I used the method wherein you'll stick a paper clip and wiring thing, just googled bootloader unlock and was able to get the 3 method to do so and did the best out of 3. Back then even if my bootloader is unlocked, it won't brick via OTA update. It was in youtube.

What does your sticker under the battery say? I mean the **W** mine goes 11W46 (Meaning it was made in 2011 in the 46th week )
Wotan server says you need less than 12W12 for their trick to work. SO am I right in assuming it will work for me? Any experiences with 11W46? 12W12 should mean it was made in the year 2012 and in the 12th week. That should mean mine is earlier right?

YEs if you download the unlock tool for the xperia play on wotanserver.com it has an embedded video detailing what to do.
There! Thats what i used to unlock my BL the test point, look for bootloader unlock xperia play on youtube, theres a link on where to download software so you can do it on your own and without paying service wherein you have to be in teamview. Anyone confident enough can unlock thier own device using this method.

Took the plunge of wotanserver.
So i paid Wotanserver €8 (£7 (or equivalent in local currency))
PayPal immediately messaged me saying that "You sent a payment of €7.99 EUR to WahWai Electronic Technology Limited ([email protected])" FastGSM hmmmmmm........ Doesn't it ring a bell.
Anyway the setup was painless, literally open the setup file. All the drivers will be installed along the way of the install procedure. Handy.
Then you open up the thing and tell it your phone model it goes OK, shows you a little video how to connect the testpoints (Calls it TP to GND Connection presumably pronounced TiiPe too GRRRRRnd) Anyway, connect the phone as shown, it goes oh yeah, phone detected checks your account balance and does the BL unlocking.
The monetary transfer literally took no time at all (Excl the time I spent typing in my PayPal details)and the actuall process took less than 10s (no joke)
If you consider using wotanserver though try to do the whole process without credits so you know if your phone works to avoid disappointment after you paid - Select model and connect it the softwre will say 'checking account' and then say not enough credits if it can unlock the phone but won't due to insufficient money. Try it first, pay it and do it again later.
Overall it worked! My phone is now unlocked the bootloder has a version of r9******* (not censored just can't remember) and even the little BL unlock allowed status has been set to yes
Now just need to get CWM on there and flash a decent ROM. But that's a different issue.
Thanks for all your help guys (and girls)
So after having my Xperia S for the last 2 years decided enough was enough with the WiFi problem GUESS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GO TO SELL IT. The ****ing WiFi decided to work and continues to stay on. Starts to work with no reason after the amount of BS and problems I have had over the last 2 to 3 months trying many custom roms kernels and stock roms nothing working then all of a sudden bam it works when selling.
Phone must have a mind of its own saying ill work ill work don't sell me DONT SELL lol. I managed to get £140.00 exchange towards the z1 compact anyone think that was worth it?? £140 on exchange for the Xperia S 32Gig version. The Xperia z1 compact was £225 cash price with trade in paid £85 total 2nd. Also comes with 1 years guarantee with it and wasn't expecting any guarantee with a 2nd hand phone but cant grumble you don't get that on E of the Bay lol
Now comes my questions.
1 Can you change the glass on front without having to change touch screen or is this part of it? Not that I need it now but if brake in future I know.
2 Can you change the Back cover. Could do with changing as scratched to the max.
3 Can you buy the sides or full housing for the phone?
4 Can this phone be unlocked with software free. Or is it a matter of off to an unlock site and buy credit to do so or take down to local market?
5 How easy is it to unlock bootloader and root phone. Are they any versions to lookout for as I had in past with some phones had problems unlocking bootloader and had to remain on locked.. Is it just a matter of grabbing flashtool and unlocking or is their more to it with much newer handsets now?
Now on to the earphone jack and speaker at bottom of phone. The phone does say it is water proof however I do not see how it is when speaker and also earphone jack are not covered by any protective covers. Does this have some sort of seal within it to make water proof?
Thanks in advance.

I can answer 2, 4, and 5 for you.
2 - Yes, you can change the back cover. Lots of users are doing it currently. Can check out the thread:

4 - Phone is already unlocked for any SIM so don't worry about that
5 - Sony provides instructions directly on their website for unlocking the bootloader. Rooting is really simple as like most devices, you just flash SuperSU.
If you don't want to unlock the bootloader but root your phone, it can take some extra work.
Waterproof - The headphone jack is internally sealed and the speaker grill has a membrane.

Might be good to mention to @mentalghost that in order to restore the phone to a completely factory state further down the line you'll need a backup of your TA partition. There are guides explaining how to do that here on xda.

I haven't found a single locked Z1C online and no one has reported one being locked. If it is, just a local store or an online site.
As for the TA keys, guide is here:

No, you will most likely never ever be able to unlock that phone. The only possibility is if O2 has some kind of code they can give you to unlock the device (not sure if this is possible). Otherwise I would suggest returning it and buying one from Clove or CarPhoneWarehouse or something, as theirs are neither locked nor bootloader unlock disallowed.
