[Q] Fastboot Kindle Fire not Recognized by Computer - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Before we start this: I am new to Android, especially FIRE OS, and really need some help.
Lets start from the beginning. I decided to root my kindle, and I installed Google Play Services on it. I then updated, and decided to wipe the services (It was causing some problems) and reinstall it. Because "vending.app" is the main files that runs the services (I thought), I found a "Vending" folder under /SYS in the file directory. Me being an idiot, I deleted it, and it froze my kindle, I forced a restart, but then all I got was the Blue "Kindle Fire" screen. It would show the logo, crash, then restart again, basically a boot-loop. I did some research, and decided to fastboot my kindle, wipe it clean, and install a recovery. I bought a FACTORY CABLE, and successfully fast-booted my device. I then installed a portion of (what I think) is the Android Developer thing-a-ma-bob that contains the ABD and fastboot files. The thing is, I have my fastbooted kindle connected to the computer via USB, but ADB AND FASTBOOT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT. All its says is "<waiting for device>". Does this have something to do with the "Vending" File I deleted, or is it a computer problem.
PS: I have a MAC, and(I don't think) requires drivers, so drivers is not the cause. I also cannot use any 3rd party recovery softwares due to not being able to run .bat and .exe
THINGS I HAVE TRIED:
-Switching to the normal Kindle Charger (USB)
-Hard Starting the Kindle
-Trying to boot into recover w/ VOLUME UP (Does not Work)
-Changing USB Ports
Any Help Will Be Appreciated, Thanks!

[Q] Kindle 8.9" stuck in Kindle Fire System Recovery

Hi,
I had my kindle rooted and a few weeks back the OS got updated automatically to a new version and my Home screen went black and I was unable to change the wallpaper. So I ran Stunts Wallpaper Fix but something must have gone wrong and I am now stuck in the:
Kindle Fire System Recovery
Your kindle doesn't seem to be able to boot.
Resetting your device to Factory defaults may
help you to fix this issue.
The choices I have are:
Reboot your kindle
Reset to Factory Defaults
Choosing any of the two options eventually leads back to the above. So I purchased the fastboot cable but that apparently does not help either, as soon as I plug it into the kindle it will go back to the Kindle Fire System Recovery screen. I have ADB installed on my PC, however when starting the Kindle, my PC only recognizes the driver for about 2 seconds and displays it as "Jem-PVT-Prod-04" in the Device Drivers then that disappears as well.
I read many, many threads on this forum but don't seem to find anyone with this particular problem. Help very much appreciated.
Where did you get your factory cable?
I got it from the "EARLYBIRD SAVINGS 3ft USB to Micro USB Factory Cable for Amazon Kindle Fire Motorola Xoom/Phones" from Amazon.

And before plugging it in, did you make sure your device was completely powered down (held the power button for 10-15 seconds)?
Yes, absolutely. Tried it several times always returning to the System Recovery Screen.

You may have a bad factory cable, or the "factory cable" you have is not a factory programming cable.
If you can install the driver in my signature on the jem device before it disappears, then you should be able to use the fastboot command like this and not have to use a factory cable:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Run that command and after it says waiting for device, plug your kindle in while powered off, it should go into fastboot.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
I followed your instructions and it seems to be working.
I am now receiving after rebooting the Kindle a dark screen saying "fastboot mode" in yellow.
In order to not screw things up again, what would be the best way forward?
I would suggest using kindle fire first aide and reflashing the stock system partition.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
I followed the steps mentioned for the Kindle First Aide and did a complete restore. My Kindle is now up and running!
Thank you sir for your excellent advice!
On another note if you try my wallpaper fix again, if it has some kinda error and bricks again, could u report the error to me? I always try to make it as safe as possible, and would like to know why my safeties didn't help in your case. Who knows, it might actually work this time since your os is closer to stock than before possibly.

I installed your wallpaper fix and it worked without any issues at all. Thank you!

My kindle is stuck in the exact same loop. What do you mean by 'install the driver...on the jem device'? ...I'm pretty green
Basically it means open the device manager on your PC, and plug you kindle in while its off, if it is indeed an 8.9" model, after it powers on you should see a device pop up briefly in the device manager called jem something, if it instead makes the noise like something connected an you don't see a jem device popup, then you probably have the drivers installed already. If you see the device pop up then quickly right click it and hit update drivers and point it to where you extracted my drivers and let them install. After that you should be able to use the fastboot command I mentioned to get I to fastboot mode.

IT WORKS!!!
Thank you so much Stunts!!! I'm now trying to do your programming, and I'm having a bit of a problem. The dos is telling me 'Could Not Find ...system32\framework-res.apk.orig doing prelim check...' followed by 'Your system partition is too low...' what am I doing wrong?
OK well the cannot find time isn't an error, its just extra output that I haven't disabled, that file it can't find is basically the cleanup process running to delete any files from a previous attempt, and if they aren't there you see that error. As for the disk space error, you should check your system partition to see how much space it has left on it, you will need around 40mb to use the wallpaper fix. You can attempt to disable the check if you are sure you have enough space, but if it doesn't have enough space you will end up with a softbrick'd device stuck in a boot loop until it has its system partition reflashed. Try either over adb shell or in a mobile terminal running "df /system" and tell me how much space it has free.

Ok, recap...system is still rooted. I did a full system reboot, and the only other os that I had was go launcher. To try and get the script to run, I deleted Go launcher, along with widget picker, and live wallpaper. I tried to run "df/system" through COMMAND under administrator, and I tried the same command on my kindle through a terminal emulator and it said "not recognized" on pc, and "not found" on kindle. I'm sorry if this is annoying, and I appreciate the help.

n/m, just found the df. on system it says 37M. What can I do for the other 3M?

Ok...I realized I was asking stupid questions that I should resolve myself. For nOObs (like me) I went to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619153 to get help with the adb shell. In doing so I was able to find my available space. I typed the command "df" and it showed all my available and used storage. I then went in to X-plore (root file management app) where I was able to change my user status to SU and go in to the systems folder and remove apps that were invaluable. Thanks for all the help stunts, if it wasn't weird I would send you some Christmas cookies lol.

Is my Kindle hard-bricked?

I have the Kindle 8.9 HD with the front-facing camera. I tried to flash CM 11, but now it's stuck at the bootscreen. It has the orange and white boot screen and a second later, a pixelated white bar pops up on the left, then it stays frozen until I shut it down. Windows doesn't seem to detect it at all, and I can't seem to get fastboot mode except for in Ubuntu using Soupkit. However, even if I do manage to get it into fastboot on Soupkit, SK says the device is offline afterwards even though the tablet displays fastboot on the screen.
It should be said and might be obvious, I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing. I spent a great deal of time reading into how to troubleshoot it myself. I do have previous experience with flashing roms on my Android phone, but that's about it.
Once it is in fastboot, reboot into windows and use kindle fire first aid. As I recall soupkit wasn't meant for 2nd gen kindles, only the kf1, but I could be mistaken, I use Ubuntu and know what I'm doing so I don't use these kinda things. Windows should detect the device as a jem device, so download drivers in my signature, extract them somewhere and in the device manager right click the jem device, hit update drivers, and point it to where you extracted mine. Once that is done kindle fire first aid should be able to reflash it.

Just like that. It's working! Didn't realize SK wasn't for 8.9, so when it didn't work, I stopped and just assumed it was fastboot on the tablet that wasn't working. I guess thinking it was hard-bricked might have been a bit dramatic.
Thanks, man! You're a lifesaver. You know your ****.

Deleted OS

I do not have any Kindle device. I have never played around with one. I do fix / build PC's all the time as a side business so I think I can fix it with some instructions. A friend has told me her son has deleted the entire OS off of her Kindle Fire. After reading the Kindle Fire For Beginners and a lot of this thread, everything I see stars out with with something like; "Boot up the Kindle Fire normally and connect a USB cable to the device and computer". That is the problem there is nothing to boot up. When she turns it on it says, "no OS". There has to be a way to re flash it. Everything I find on any search always starts out with boot it up ect...
It is a Kindle Fire 1st generation, 7 inch screen, model number D01400
Any help would be great thanks in advance, Eric.

fastboot/factory cable is one option
FAQ Q26: What is a factory cable? What is it used for? How do I use it?
A factory cable, not to be confused with the OEM USB cable that comes with the Kindle Fire, is a USB cable made to emulate a Motorola factory programming cable. With the Kindle Fire, it is an easy way to access fastboot mode, especially when no other options are available. To use it, while plugged into your computer, simply plug it into a Kindle Fire that has been completely powered down.

I was trying the method to do FFF and TWRP without factory cable.
I was able to successfully Root and get into fast boot.
I had not found the method for using Windows at this point so I was trying to use soupkit. (Finally figured out that you have to change permissions on the soupkit.sh to run as executable) In doing this I was trying to install Linux (which I've never used), tried Mint as suggested but was having trouble, moved to Umbuntu and during this time the Fire was in fast boot plugged in via USB so it seemed fine. This was over the course of a few days, on the last day while I was at work my wife or son move the laptop and Fire and the cable was unplugged so the Fire went dead.
Now it appears to be in a boot loop? The Kindle Fire flashes on then the screen turns off and it just repeats this. I left it unplugged for several days going it would discharge and boot but it seems to be stuck in this loop. I'm running Win 7 Home Premium and Linux, neither one can see the Kindle on the USB.
Is this thing a brick now or is there and way to recover? I don't have the factory cable but would gladly order one if it would help get passed this point.
Sorry so long, just trying to provide all info on my situation.
Thanks if you can help.
Did you retry the
adb shell
su
cd /data/local/tmp
./fbmode
exit

Discharging battery is a very bad idea
see Frequently Asked Questions - Amazon Kindle Fire
Q30: Is it true that letting the battery die will reset the device and fix whatever problem I'm experiencing?
NO!!! NO!!! NO!!! NO!!! The flash memory storage of the Kindle Fire is capable of holding data without ANY power until your grandchildren's grandchildren have their own grandchildren...probably even longer. Not to mention, a dead battery will cause much bigger problems than you ever had to begin with, on top of the problems you had to begin with. Whatever problem you're dealing with, it is always best to avoid letting the battery die at all costs.
Q31: Why is my boot logo flashing every 5-10 seconds?
You have a near dead battery. The most effective way fix it is to power the device down by holding the power button for 10 seconds, plug the device into a power source, then IMMEDIATELY hold the power button until it shuts off again. If it shuts off and stays off (no display, no led), let it charge for at least half a day. Otherwise keep trying, or get another battery.

I didn't get to try this but was ready to if needed.
As a follow up, I was able to hook up to a higher output charger and left it that way for a good hour and it came back on to what looked like fastboot.
In Windows I opened cmd and was able to push recovery in fastboot & got in to TWRP. I wanted to install CM11 OtterX so I followed the post that Hash has out.
Flashed the updated Bootloader and rebooted per the instructions but now it wouldn't get back into TWRP and couldn't boot into rom and ADB wouldn't connect.
After days of reading I decided to try the EEC Fix in the bootloader, that was successful and it put me in the new Fastboot screen. Once there I was able to connect in ADB and push the files to the SD card and got into TWRP, followed the instructions again from that basic point, converted the format from Amazon and was finally successful in getting the CM11 installed and booted.
Looking through the info I found an OTA from CM and now am running 4.4.4
Very excited to have a real tablet instead of the Fire OS.
Thanks for everyone's help. Reading and persistence pays off.
I did a reboot, but it is staying at the Kindle Fire boot logo. It is not proceeding past that to anything fastboot related. I ran the fastboot devices command and then I ran the command to push the recovery, but it is just sitting there at waiting for devices.
Also, when the device rebooted to get into fastboot, Windows 7 said it was unable to install the driver for it.
Any help would be awesomely appreciated!
Never mind! I figured it out by installing the driver that came with KFU.
If I want to install a KitKat ROM, what is my next step? I don't want you to explain me everything, but if you could lead me to another post or something, I would be grateful!

[HELP] Unbricking Kindle Fire HD7" with Fastboot Cable; pc won't recognize Kindle

[HELP] Unbricking Kindle Fire HD7" with Fastboot Cable; pc won't recognize Kindle
Lemme start from the beginning. (I've made numerous threads before I had a fastboot and commentors kept asking questions that I've answered in the post so I'm gonna try to be detailed as possible)
Before I had a fastboot cable
I flashed a ROM onto my Kindle Fire (Cyanogen 13). Didn't like it so I thought a recover to factory settings would work. It didn't and it got stuck on the TWRP screen. Stuck on TWRP meaning that it's literally stuck on the blue TWRP screen. It doesn't get to the main menu or anything. I scoured the internet for solutions and some (which didn't mention a special cable) I tried but it ultimately failed because the program (can't list every single one but one I do remember is Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility), could NOT find my Kindle Fire. Also, Kindle Fire could not be found under "this PC" but when I plugged it in, it made the ding sound and could be found under ""Device Managers". I started reading steps about using a fastboot cable and was led to believe if you use one, your PC should recognize Kindle, therefor programs to unbrick should find the Kindle.
Got my fastboot cable today
I ordered one from Amazon and when I plug my Kindle in with cable, it turns on saying "fastboot kindle fire". I was excited to get this fixed finally. I followed a YouTube video's instruction (of a channel that I can count on) Tekify's Unbrick Kindle Fire. I did all the installing ADB drivers and what not but once I plugged the Kindle in and then opened the Unbrick program (this one Unbrick Utility). I pressed "1" on my keyboard to wipe everything on device. But once I pressed enter it sat on <waiting for device>. I checked under Device Managers and under Other Devices, Tate was there. But I couldn't find the Kindle under "This PC" still.
I've already researched this specific issue and people said to go to Tate's properties and update driver software. Then browse your PC for the Kindle under "This PC" but can't because Kindle doesn't show up under there. I know this is a Bible's worth of words but I really want to get this tablet FIXED!
