When I turn off the screen of my phone, I lose my wifi and data connections. The icons of them in the status bar turn white rather than the usual green. The only way I have found to fix this is to put the phone in airplane mode then take it out. Which is really inconvenient EVERY time I want to use this. I know that when the WiFi turns green it means that the phone is connected to Google. But it never goes back from white to green even after I let it sit for a few seconds and try something to push data through. Even when it's green it doesn't work until I reset the radio.
Things to know:
1. I am rooted.
2. It is the AT&T LG Nitro HD (LG P930)
3. It is the V10f software version.
4. I have not tried a factory reset yet because of the hassle. Yes I know about titanium, it's just time consuming.
If anybody else has this problem, please let me know. Hopefully we can get this fixed.
Update: I fixed my problem by installing Wi-Fi fixer. But it still makes me mad that this occurs. Maybe we can try to find the source of the problem.

Maybe you are running some battery saving app like juice defender? Check the settings there.

Nope, I'm not running juice defender. The only task killing app I use is Advanced Task Killer which I only ever use when I need to quickly restart an app, I don't use it every 10 minutes like some people do.
I had a weird incident where I lost my wifi radio...wouldn't detect any wifi ssids...don't know what caused it. But your situation seems similar...sadly I have know idea how it got fixed...rebooted phone a couple of times and haven't had a problem since.
I am looking to buy the Nitro HD for WiFi only use and maybe occasional prepaid use. I will flash to some deodexed ROM or maybe CM9 so I am not so concerned about software issues in the stock ROM.
What I am more concerned about is - how are the cameras for Skype/Google Video etc?
Any way to turn off all radios except WiFi by default everytime the phone starts up?
Thanks.
^^bump^^
I'll chime in here, I use mine as a wifi only device. As far as Skype/google video goes, video calls are great. I don't have a Sim card in mine and the mobile settings are greyed out which I'm assuming the cellular is off.
I'm currently running the latest cm9 nightlies and the device keeps getting better and better.
Battery life is definitely better than gingerbread. Battery life is within reason for a device this powerful while on wifi. The only battery drain I've found is being out of range of a wifi area. It seems the device goes on over drive looking for wifi and within an hour, majority of your battery is dead. This might be a CM9 issue, I'm not sure on that. Just remember to turn off your wifi when out and about.
Thanks for the response. I got myself a used one for $200 today off Craigslist. Will put leaked ICS ROM on it
Looks much sweeter than my iPhone 4S!!
UP!UP!
The super screen is eye candy. Using wifi it will last for 5-7 hours, while using 3g only for 2-3 hours.
For these two reasons, i often use it only as WIFI.
Will somebody introduce a super airplane mode without shutdown of WIFI?

Get dx battery saver, put it into sleep mode, then activate wifi.

You don't need any special app. Just enable airplane mode, then enable wifi.

oh,no, it is a two-click thing with a wifi interruption.
We want a one-click button.

I got it!
If there is /system/etc/settings.xml, modify it about what is airplane mode (this is, remove “wifi” in the lines of "airplane-mode" ).

Hi, I saw many posts related to this topic Wi-Fi turns off when phone in deep sleep but not able to find a single working solution.
My phone runs on 4.2.1 with wi-fi sleep policy set to NEVER ( that means always on ideally ) , and tried turning on / off wifi optimization, avoid poor connections is not ticked.
Even after doing everything the wifi is turned off after sometime and when i turn on Screen it turns it back! How to do I solve this?? I am using STOCK rom, with just root.. No other battery saver etc. app installed.

well i have this problem too on every jelly bean rom. the only rom without this problem in cm10 stable. now i'm with cm10.1 hoping they'll fix it like in cm10.
when that problem comes out just toggle on and off airplane mode and it should disappear until next wifi toggle off and on.
I hope google will solve it in key lime pie
CM 10.1 has only just started doing this in the last week or so, it was fine before. Was wondering if it was just me with this issue or not...

Am i correct in understanding that you don't want it to disconnect? The option in the settings is "Keep wifi on during sleep". If you have it at Never, then it will disconnect when the phone goes into sleep. It should be placed on Always because you want it to be on even during sleep
Flowed and Tapped from my Nexus
fixed the wifi problem
Heya! My first post!!!
So, i had the same problem on my Allview P5 Quad.
The guys from Allview released an update for my phone based on 4.2.1 and i thought the problem was from them. I had WiFi turned on and after a few minutes from entering sleep mode, the WiFi got disconnected, both WiFi and data. I have installed the last update again and again, rooted, unrooted, tried every option from WiFi and i still had the same problem.
So i timed the time when the WiFi disconnects and it was exactly 6 minutes. So i thought that it must be an option that does this. So i unchecked the Quick Power Saving icon from Switches and ... SURPRISE! My WiFi stays on continuously. So, the problem is from the system power saving settings. I hope this helps all of you.
P.S. Love this forum! Thanks for all your help!
I believe I found the problem, some how it is not the phone but my wifi router (and all routers) is the problem. Go into your router settings and look for the "Beacon Interval" and set that number to 50. I'm not going to explain what the beacon interval is, go google it and you will see. I switched mine and now the wifi on my phone does not switch off when in deep sleep.
I have a problem with wifi. In battery stats wifi has more consumption as screen.
I never seen it on any other android smartphone in my house.
Somebody with this behavior? I am using latest stock.
Check Location>Wifi Scanning
any other idea
thx, i disable scanning in location, reboot, after week still wifi 1st in battery consumption, it's not big problem, battery life on this phone is excellent, but can be better
It's a wrong report from Android, your WiFi is not draining your battery (a few of us have the same problem, me included). I don't know where it comes from but you can just ignore it (there's no real way to fix the issue I'm afraid)
Mine was doing the same - and I use Chrome a lot for web surfing
Disable Location permissions in Chrome (Settings->Apps->Chrome->Permissions->Location Off)
ok, i just ignoring it, not big deal, battery life is fine, i just was wondering if can be even better everybody know android is quite tricky
Some screenshots would be great, so people can help.
That's the kind of problem he is having, which is just a bug from Android ?

I hope you have your WiFi scanning and WiFi network notification off.
I faced same problem in the starting.
I switched above settings off and cleared cache and then switched off WiFi and restated phone.
Now it is gone. Hope it helps.

Everything has been off for a while, the "problem" appeared afterwards but I personally don't mind, I know that's just a bug

Are you guys only seeing this reporting when wifi is on but not connected? Or all the time?
Only had the device 2 days, but no sign of it for me - wifi on, background scanning and network notification also on. Only been out of wifi coverage for a few hours though.

It's when the WiFi is on (connected or not).
OK, some say it's a bug, others say it's no biggie since the large battery, but.... I used to get home after a 12 hr days work, and have 4-5 hrs sot and still 20-30% left. Now I need to keep the phone charged, because it's down to 10 % halfway... That IS a BIGGIE.... And for those who say it's just a stats thingie, well, if this thingie shows 0%: your phone WILL shut down!
Ive tried ALL tips, NOTHING works. Period. What bugs me most is that I don't know why! I turned off scanning, cleared cache, reboot, etc, heck, I even did multiple factory resets, NO GO on any of those!
Believe me I'm happy for those that have solved the issue, but this should have never happened.
After consulting Motorola's customer services I was advised to send it back for repair, and so I did. I need to get it back still, but if this really is a bug, than:
SHAME ON YOU MOTOROLA/LENOVO.
You need to fix this asap, because it really IS a BIGGIE!
Even when it was disabled all the time.
you have to disable location scanning for bluetooth and wifi. I've had the same issue. I also dont use high accuracy location. I use device only to save battery and prevent wifi from turning on. It drains crap ton of battery.
Yea! I had also disabled it and made one thread for this so let other knows the solution.
SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/how-to/guide-prevent-wifi-draining-battery-t3612123
Hello,
I have recently factory reset my OP3 due to a battery drainage issue. Google play services started using around 30% of my battery and consequently my SOT decreased by a lot.
After the factory reset, I freshly installed of all my old apps, and I downloaded my photos from the Gdrive.
Unfortunately, since then my WiFi is acting strange. Whenever I start the phone, the WiFi is performing normal, but after a while my phone goes into deep sleep and my WiFi disables itself (just like i configuered in settings). However, when I wake my phone, my WiFi won't turn on and when I go to the WiFi settings the phone becomes extremely laggy.
I have already wiped my cache again but I don't know what else to do.
Any help is appreciated!
Kind Regards,
Same strange problem here,I must reboot phone to connect wifi.
I trying with 3 kernel, it's not kernel problem.
It's such a strange problem. I don't understand why this problemwould occur after a complete factory reset...
I had the same issue a few years ago with my HTC One M7.
By the way, my OP3 is completely stock running Android 8.0
Same problem with my 5T on 5.1.1. Weird thing is I haven't made any changes, just updated a few apps but none of them should be causing wifi issues and settings (battery history) to lag after sleep.

I have set wifi to always on and don't have this problem. May be the doze feature is affecting it in your case. Why don't you try the always on setting? For me it doesn't drain the battery also. So no harm in trying it.
And why settings not responding? I must touch home button in order to have working settings again.
I think it's Oxygen Os problem.

The problem does not occur if I set WiFi to always on. However, this uses way more battery in my case.
If i set WiFi to always on my sot decreases from 4-5 hours to 3-4 hours.
EDIT:
I also can't find this issue anywhere else on the internet.

Can't find anything either. You have any of these apps installed? Substratum, Microsoft Remote Desktop, Twitch. Updated these apps two days ago which is when I noticed this problem, haven't change anything else really. Updated router firmware too (Virgin Media).

I can only think of factory resetting again and checking the behaviour of wifi before installing any other apps and downloading photos. Then you will know whether an app or the downloading is the cause and take action accordingly.

No, I haven't installed any of those apps. However, since the factory reset I started using the regular Chrome instead of Chrome Beta.

I think so, yes.
I just disabled all third party apps, and the problem still persists
I have set wifi always on,and flash HolyDragon kernel, problem it's gone.
I don't know if kernel, or settings always on wifi, resolve my wifi connection.
I've been having the same problem too as of yesterday. Did a factory wipe and reinstalled Oxygen 5.0.1 but still having the issue after i reinstalled apps. going to try a factory reset again and not install or update any apps to see if maybe a recent app update is causing this.

IT didn't work for me. Right after flashing the OS back onto the phone and connecting to WiFi, i changed the WiFi setting for "Keep WiFi awake when asleep" to "only when plugged in" and after locking the screen and waking it back up a few minutes later it still wouldn't activate the WiFi; I had to manually go into the WiFi settings and turn WiFi back on.
On the bright side though, I did do some reading on the "Keep WiFi awake when asleep" setting and several sources said to leave it on "Always" since it actually drains more power turning on the WiFi radio when the phone wakes up. I've since changed that setting to Always and over the last two days I've noticed slightly less battery drain!
It happen to me too. Cant turn on wifi after waking up from deepsleep. Must reboot the phone. I had tried to clean everything , data, system, cache, everything and made a clean flash but it still happen ,only for 8.x android. I tried in Nougat and see no such problem. Im using oneplus 5t
Yea, I have same problem staring with oreo update. Can say, that I tried all kernels around, and some of them made wifi connecting faster or even reduced the number of crashes, but not completely. Sadly, I can't stay on those kernels, coz I have another problem, - iv got random reboots with most of them, only stock works... So every solution is inappropriate for me, and I reverted to nougat waiting for Android 8.1
Same problem here. I am on beta 35. Additionally I was on Franco kernel and had random reboots. Kernel back to stock no more reboots but still the wifi issue. I'll test the always on.
Hopefully it gets fixed in the next update. For now, I'm using the ''always on'' WiFi option.
Thank you all for the replies!
