My phone is HTC DESIRE 616, So it did all start with the phone getting buggy and crashed a lot so I figured that I just needed to install a ROM, so I went ahead download a ROM on my SD card using bootloader(power+volumedown)
then I wiped my data/factory and cash partition without using any some sort of backup like TWRP or CWM. When I tried to select apply update from sdcard and selected the ROM, It said Installation aborted. now I can't even start the phone and It always displays the HTC logo without actually booting into anything. Please help me.

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
Sounds like you need a stock ROM. A quick look i didn't find one, but yolur experts might know there there is one.
I am connecting this thread to the forum your device experts can be found:

Please note, to respond to replies, you will need to register for an XDA account.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Fellow rooters and modders,
I have just done a serie of stupid things.
1) I have rooted my desire with the root sequence described from Modaco (risk free rooting. My phone was unlocked, so no need for the Goldcard.
2) Then, I installed clockword mod, and installed different custom roms (latest one was Defrost 1.8) from the rom manager.
3) As i was getting sick of the low on space notifications, I wanted to format my SD card through ROM manager, to support ap2sd . I highly suspect this was unnecessary. Anyway, after I launched this process, my device rebooted. I waited and waited. And finally got tired and interrupted the process by rebooting. I have not been able to start a single rom since.
I tried flashing, wiping and erasing everything I could (data, cache, dalvik, ST-ex, SD Card) and install new roms through clockword..
It still won't go past the green HTC screen, the screen stuck and lighting my face in despair...
What can I do to fix the boot sequence, and "start from scratch"'????
Any help would be appreciated, I am now down to make a Goldcard, even though I am convinced this won't help any....
Thanks in advance.
just remove the battery. put it back into the device. then make root again:

Have you tried to reformat your sdcard ?
Answers
I tried to remove the Battery, Install a different SD Card, Format the SD Card I had, wiping everything (Factory Reset, Dalvik, etc.......).
I finally got past that screen, by actually, redoing the entire root process from Paul o Brien again.
But when I try to get back to shadowfrost 1.8, it stalls again at boot screen.... It might just be an issue with this particular rom...
Thanks for your help, I will try to post again on that thread...
Hi All,
I rooted my unbranded/unlocked HTC desire using the unrevoked method successfully and loaded a custom rom on there which I have been using for about 1 year.
Needless to say it is now time for an update from (Paul's r9 to r11), however when I tried to install a new rom in recovery, nothing happens.
I boot my phone into recovery (clockworkmod v. 2.5.0.7) and delete all user data, cache, and the dalvik cache and then choose to install .zip from sd card.
I choose the .zip and go install, the it looks like it's working fine, the log says it's opening the package but then it just suddenly disappears and goes back to the recovery screen again as if nothing has happened.
When I reboot my phone, it just goes back to being reset but still using the old rom (r9).
Now all I want is to restore it back to the stock WWE version, but they all seem to be in .exe format...
Please tell me what I can do...
Thanks so much.
For flashing another rom I would try newer version of clockworkmod if yours don't work.
If you want to go back to stock, just run RUU. Like you said it's an .exe, so nothing you can do wrong.
Whats your erase size?
Thanks for your responses, I'm kind of new to all this.
Actually I started looking for solutions about 3 months ago but there's just so many different methods out there and I just didnt know which to follow.
RUU, ok I will look that up, thanks.
Also I installed Rom Manager (when looking for update to clockworkmod) and it has apparently flashed my recovery to the newest mod. So I will try it again.
EDIT: it hasnt worked, when I restarted my phone in recovery but it's still the old version...
I'm not sure what you mean by erase size?
Thanks again.
The erase size lets us know which hardwarerevision your desire has. It's important to know it because with the erasesize 40000 (aka PVT4 desire) you cannot use the cwm recovery which is usually flashed with unrevoked. To find out your erasesize, download a terminal emulator from android market, start it and then enter
Code:
cat /proc/mtd
ok I checked it and it shows erasesize as all being 00020000
Ok erase size is not the issue then.
I know I have this issue when there is a problem with my zip. Not always getting "Installation aborted, (bad)" error message.
Might be worth checking the file system of the SD card (maybe download h2testw.exe for windows to test it for errors)
Personally I'd just flash a better recovery and try again.
there's a guide on how to do so on my troubleshooting guide if you need help. Just look in the "repairing recovery" section. (Note: since you are fairly new to this, I'm betting on that your phone is S-ON, for you to be able to flash recovery, you need to be S-OFF, however there is also a guide on that, even with a video ^_^)
Thanks for your help
I checked and yes, I am s-on, but I read a few guides and really it's all too complicated for me.
The only reason why I needed a custom rom was because my phone was purchased in China and had chinese market content only and it wouldnt let me install Skype.
Now I'd be happy with a stock WWE rom that I can update automatically via android auto updates...
I think running the stock RUU will do this? I'm going to try it now.
Thanks again, but I might be back because I'm so unskilled at these things
Use android flasher, its easy to flash different recoveries, hboots, radios and boot animations. Almost cheating
HTC Desire
I lov using my phone explorer app, Everything works great except I used to be able to control my phone using my PC keyboard n mouse in the phone view.
I've upgraded my my phone to CM7 and it give an option to select My phone explorer as an external keyboard.
I cant get it working without selecting the option of external text in the appropriate input on my phone which sort of defeats the whole remote angle.
Can anyone help please ....
Bootloop solved
I read this thread trying to figure out why my phone (marvelc A510c virgin mobile) went into bootoop after trying to installing simonsense3.5 rom, and thought I'd share my success story. This is actually my first post. I want to hopefully save someone like me HOURS of heartache over a stupid solution.
Background (roughly):
Unlocked bootloader via htcdev, worked great.
Used Simonsimon34's htc utility and it worked okay. I still had to use the htc supertool to get root.
Got cwm 5.0.2.8 installed and made a backup rom
Downloaded simonsense3.5 rom and attempted to flash it, but phone hanged in recovery. After that, I was stuck in a bootloop. Could still get into recovery, but cwm would hang ALL the time doing things like wiping and I couldn't get it passed "Opening Update Package" when flashing new roms. I read forum after forum, reformatted my sd, wiped partitions, got a second sd, tried 3 or 4 roms people swore would work, did it all over again. Nothing! I found a thread that said to back cwm down to 5.0.2.6, but that didn't work. This went on for two days and I was getting desperate.
SOLUTION:
I finally found a thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229) that posted cwm 4.0.xx (the "previous version" link) and at my wits end flashed that, and wouldn't you know it, success! CWM was the problem the whole freaking time! I used the cwm partition creator to make a fresh 1024b partition on a fresh sd, wiped everything, put the rom on, and installed simonsense3.5 on the first damn try. The rom works okay, but I'm having some bugs... but that is another forum.
Good luck!
Hello everyone,
first of all, im kind of new to rooting phones and stuff, what surely brought me to that problem i have.
I have an old HTC desire where i wanted to install a custom rom.
So i searched for a tutorial, i rooted the phone using unrevoked 3.21, worked fine. Then i wanted to install the custom rom, installed a backup tool first (something like "ClockwordMod Recovery") and made a backup on the sd card.
Then i wanted to install the custom ROM from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
Worked mostly fine, but when i wanted to start my phone i got stuck in the startup screen forever.
I searched for this issue and found some tips about clearing caches and clearing the sdcard, what i did - so here is the problem. The sdcard wipe propably killed my backup file and now i am pretty screwed, i still get stuck in the loading screen of the ROM, so i dont have access of the phone, and backup tool has no file to recover from.
So what to do now? I want to reset the phone to the rooted status and try to install the ROM again, but as i said i cant access to anything. Any suggestions?
Thanks
EDIT:
Allright, i have no idea why, but suddenly the phone starts up with the new OS. So this thread can be closed / deleted. Sorry for that
Checked bortak's troubleshooting guide??

Sounds like you're sorted, can happen sometimes if it was your first CWM (nandroid) backup
Hey guys!
Sorry if this matter has already been approaced, but... i wouldn't know what keywords to search for.
I have a Gio, that came with gingerbread 2.3.4 and was updated to 2.3.6 via samsung update app.
Due to veeeery low internal storage i need a lighter rom so i thought of LightOrange v7. Wasn't keen on it but something had to be changed.
My device wasn't rooted, so i made no backups of any apps or the rom that was already on it, nor did i have any rom managers installed.
I went into cfw (i understand it's called - power button + home key) and from there i selected update from sd card. The new rom installed with the pretty interface, and when it was done it told me to reboot.
At startup, the first startup screen appeeared (the one where "samsung" is the only word) and then went to the second screen (where it says ~samsung galaxy gio S5660) and it got stuck there.
I entered the cfw again, and did a factory reset, clear cache, reinstall and so on, but all i get is the phone getting stuck at that second startup screen.
So... what is there to do?
Will another rom placed on the sd card -> installing from cfw do the trick? or is my path to repairing the device longer?
Hey
I'm not sure if installing a new rom over the old one will help, you can always try I guess
But you can also just start for scratch and just get your phone back to stock rom using this guide: THIS
And if I'm understanding you correctly you didnt install any recovery to backup and install the custom rom? Because I think you're going to need CWM as recovery.
Hope it helped
Solved.
Installed clockworkmod from sd card, using the default "update from sd card'".
And from there installing a rom was as simple as it should be
It would have been usefull if someone had given me this solution as a reply to my thread...
