Hello community,
I wanted to download the new lollipop update, but the OTA fails. The reason is: I unlocked the bootloader (without root).
What is the fastest way to update to 5.1? Is there any way, keeping my data?
If not, what is the best way to backup these data?
Thanks for your response!
Do you have root and a custom recovery? Then you flash a pre-rooted ZIP without wiping your data.
You could also do a nandroid backup priop to this in the recovery.
Otherwise, you may want to root your 5.0.2 and then install the custom recovery.
I am not sure if full backups without root are currently possible.
Thanks for your reply. It helped me a lot.
I want to describe my solution shortly:
1. I used this describtion for obtaining root http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...root-init-d-support-recovery-busybox-t3202799
2. I did a backup with CWM
3. I did a dirty flash with this describtion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...6-0-368-customized-lollipop-5-t3200948/page11
So i got Recovery + root + 5.1 without loosing data.

I have a noob question:
I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my gsm nexus. However I would like to be able to receive and install any updates OTA- basically stay as stock as possible with root. My plan was to leave the stock recovery in place. If I need to do a backup or reflash su.zip (after an update to regain root) I was planning on running rom manager and using it to flash CWM. I realize that this CWM would not survive a reboot as the startup script will reflash the stock recovery.
Will this work and does it make sense?
thanks
quick bump- basically I want to know what will prevent an OTA update from installing
Edit I realized there was a flaw in my logic. After an OTA update I will lose root and then be unable to flash the recovery via rom manager. I guess will have to resort to fastboot after OTA
I have a rooted Nexus 7 with TWRP recovery. I received the update message today for the Lollipop OTA update and when I ran it the phone restarted to TWRP and just sat there? What do I need to do to get this update installed? Do I need to put stock recovery back on? If so what's the easiest way to do that? Thanks!
Easiest way would to be to flash the stock recovery. I don't even bother with flashing TWRP, I boot into it with fastboot when needed.
Thanks, where can i get the stock recovery img from?

You need to flash the stock rom for Nexus 7 (2013). By doing so, TWRP recovery will be replaced with the stock recovery. Note: All your installed apps and data will be removed.
The paid Flashify app offers stock recoveries.

The easiest way to get the 5.0.1 update without losing apps or data is to download the stock, rooted rom from Scrosler found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex.../rom-factory-stock-rooted-rom-lrx22c-t2960745 , use Wugfresh's NRT 1.9.9 to update the bootloader listed in Scrosler's post, and then dirty flash (wipe Dalvik and cache if you want) the 5.0.1 rom with TWRP. Painless and fast with no loss of data or anything.
Thanks for the replies. Think I will try Flashify as it seems the easiest solution.

I went this direction and it worked great. Thanks a lot!
Hello guys, i was wondering since I've made the 5.0 update (european) if it was possible for me to flash a custom rom like cyanogen without root (because root isn't an option since llp) ?

After flashing a ROM, flash SuperSu 2.4 to get root.

But how do I flash without root ?
It's noobish question, i can't get to recovery, I've tried with the Power and vol down keys, all i can get is a menu to erase my data, thats it.
Firsh backup your data. Then go back to EU stock ROM:
here are the stock ROMs: http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda%2FLG+G3%2FStock%2F
how to go back to your stock ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
Now you can root your LG G3, use TWRP/CWM custom recovery and flash custom ROM.
Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/root-root-lg-g3-easily-purpledrake-lite-t2821000
TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129
Thank you, I hoped there was another way, i will downgrade then, thanks.
maybe there is. Im not pro neither I received OTA for 5.0, but I wanted to have my LG rooted, so I had to downgrade and now I am running AN HD.
does TWRP able to flash a stock rom?
if it possible, will it cause any problem?
my device is rooted and using stock rom (planning to flash CM)
a) if you have twrp installed, then just backup before flashing any other roms, then factory reset and restore to go back to factory if needed.
b) you can flash OTA with twrp, and I ma pretty sure full stock roms too. See this guide. There is a thread on xda too, but I don't have it bookmarked.
I hope that answers your question.
P.S.
Remember that you have to unlock bootloader for TWRP, and if you want to use OTA function on stock rom with TWRP you need to fully unroot first.
@DiGecko
Thank you very much
Sorry for the noob question, I posted this on the Elementalx thread more than a week ago but it's still unanswered and I'm quite sure that the question has already been posted but I just don't have the time to go through almost 600 pages of info...to be able to flash this kernel is it necessary for my phone to be rooted? I know that I need a custom recovery and b/l unlocked.
And when I flash this kernel what's first, the kernel or the ROM? Links to the info are fine.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: I'm on stock Lollipop b/l unlocked and not rooted. Everything is stock.
Maybe because your questions are too basic so no one want to reply.
1. You need unlocked bootloader & custom recovery like TWRP
2. Not necessary rooted if you don't want to root it and stay non-rooted. (but to revert to stock for OTA (when it involves changes to kernel), you need to flash stock boot.img & its kernel modules prior to OTA - basically restore non-rooted nandroid backup)
3. ROM first then kernel.
4. Lollipop kernel for lollipop ROM

OK. Thanks for the reply.
1.- This is done. I've flashed latest TWRP (3.x)
2.- Could my nandroid backup work as a non-rooted backup or I'm having the wrong idea on this?
3.- OK. Got it.
4.- Once I update to MM, can I flash the MM kernel of Elelmentalx?
1. --
2. as long as the backup is made prior rooting, it is a non-rooted backup
3. --
4. yes
