Hi, my carrier three in the UK, note supports VoLTE but I have an Unlocked handset not a three branded one. Is there a way to enable VoLTE with out flashing my ROM?
Thanks
Not that I am aware of.
What if I was prepared to flash my ROM? It's there a way to get it activated on the phone?
only ee supports wireless calling pretty sure this won't work on 3, as the carrier has to support it.

Same problem here.
I flashed three UK kdz ver 10b then 10e which has in props flag volte, however there is one problem. Phone software version still isn't correct, shows version OPT2-SI.
I have rooted the phone and have access to the original three UK LG g4, will compare build prop files.
All other customisation (including homepage) is profiled for three UK though.
The problem is that volte is available only on 800 MHz lte band and nowhere on their website is shown where exactly it's available. Three UK allows access to this band only for LG g4 with three UK updated software, not any other phone. Which is bonkers...
Forcing band 20 results in constant search, no network available. Though according to their website Glasgow where I am is enabled (though no coverage map).
Right. After a few hours managed to get it. Will post the detailed way to do it when I get some sleep.
You need rooted phone, three kdz ver 10e, FX Explorer with root add on and hex editor to edit misc partition to show the software you've got three UK phone.
1. Volte enabled, works
2. Coverage of 800 MHz is much poorer (Glasgow) than 1800 MHz, therefore phone won't use much of the volte as this is available only on 800 MHz and the phone will stick to stronger signal.
3. You can force to use 800 MHz in the engineering menu. However, at home I'm getting 25 meg down on 1800 MHz and just 5 meg on 800 MHz.
4. On open Europe version, I was able to force to use only LTE. On three UK version after change I can force it only when manually selecting 800 MHz band. When on 1800 MHz the phone does not connect to LTE (signal bar ok, but data not connected).
4. There is no handover from volte to 3g. If you lose 800 MHz coverage, the call would be dropped (same happens on original three UK handset)
5. Speeds will always be slower on 800 MHz as three UK uses 5 MHz spectrum compared to 10 MHz on 1800 MHz.
Good news, I thought previously that three UK allows access by IMEI but that's not the case.
Not sure if this is worth the hassle for now..

Would really appreciate the full write up, as Three are not currently planning on updating the software for my Phone Z2, so I may try and replicate your work as best I can.

Likewise, I'd be interested to understand the settings to enable it on the Nexus 6.
LG G3 user here, willing to flash a ROM if needed to get 800Mhz data as an option when I specifically want to choose band 20 from the bands hidden menu.
I'm tempted to buy an LG G4 from Three but I'm worried their firmware might lock out some of the hidden menu functions like band selection and 800 is the lowest priority you'd hardly ever see it if you couldn't set the band.
Definitely be interested to see what other people have got working.
Any update michalpro?
Anything?
Has anybody else managed to get 800Mhz data access on the G4 or non Three branded devices?
OK, took some time to get back here, busy time.
Before you attempt to do anything, you have to know it can brick your device easily.
This is ONLY for LG G4, not for any other device. ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE WIPED OUT.
Download KDZ for Three UK and flash it to your phone via LG Flash Utility. Tested with firmware 10E (in my case had to flash it twice, as phone was FC keyboard and couldn't get past logon screen):
http://pkg03.lime.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=FW94J0D232WAAC14C8D217E/H81510e_00.kdz
After flashing, your phone will show OPT2 version instead of EUR. But VoLTE and 800 MHz LTE don't work. Essentialy, the firmware did not recognise your phone is from Three UK and disables it.
1. You need to root you phone. How to do it - please check other posts - I used root injection method with Ubuntu.
2. Now, you need FX and FX root addon (my choise as doesn't mess the file permissions). - get it from Google Play
3. You also need Hex Editor Free - get it from Google Play.
4. You need SD card present in your phone for backup.
1. Once you are rooted open FX and go to Root/system
In folder dev / block you will find file called mmcblk0p22
2. Copy it to your ext SD card TWICE, once in any folder as a backup, second time in the root folder - this is the one you'll work on.
3. Now open HEX Editor and edit mmcblk02p22 file exactly as on pictures attached - before and after (you're editing lines 0000aa000 to 0000a040. DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER LINE)
4. Save the file, and using FX copy it back to the dev/block folder (replace the file). Make sure FX has unlocked padlock at the top, otherwise won't let you override.
5. Reboot the phone.
6. Using FX explorer unpack archive.tar.bz2 to cust folder in your phone root. It contains modified H3G config files. Make sure you're using FX explorer to get the right file permissions.
7. Reboot. If you use now code to enter hidden menu - 277634#*# you will see that VoLTE settings are active.
NOTE: If you're already rooted EUR software you may try:
1. Edit mmcblk02p22
2. Edit Cust files.
3. Flash over Three's 10D firmware.
Three released 10G today, will try to flash over and see if settings stick.

Indeed - normally to use 800 Mhz on 3UK you need to have no 1800 Mhz coverage. For VoLTE, no 3G coverage.
However, I can now confirm you can force 800 Mhz in the hidden menu.
Tap LTE bands, tap Band 20. Phone will either stick to this or lose the network. If so, go to Settings, Networks and manually select 3 LTE. Sticks then.

Thanks michaelpro for the writeup.
I had some weird feeling yesterday as I was flashing marshmallow that you would update us with a guide
I will probably restore my TWRP backup of Three V10D, unless you think it may be possible I could root marshmallow and use the same guide?

For now root possible on Marshmallow with unlocked bootloader. However, Three UK has not yet released their 6.0 soft, therefore not sure if EUR version with modified NV file would turn on the VoLTE. Three announced their software is required.
Plus, the hidden menu code from Lollipop doesn't work on Marshmallow, so we can't force or observe if it works....

A family member gifted me a Galaxy S4, however it is the SGH-M919. I currently live in Europe and 3G bands in my region are GSM 900/1800. At the moment I can't access 3G and any other type of data for that matter (LTE is not supported here). Is there a way to change T-mobile 950 and 1900 bands to my region ones?
Thanks for taking your time to answer
Sadly not.

So there's no way to fix it?
Hello Flex,
I have the same phone "Samsung S4 SGH-M919 - Tmobile" and I live in Hungary, it works fine with me all you have to do is just to switch form WCDMA/GSM to any other option "like GSM only" then back to WCDMA/GSM as a kind of refresh and the 3G will work fine after that, you can find this inside Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network mode, but unfortunately you have to do this every time you restart your device.
There is also another alternative solution is to reset the Access point names to default, you can find this inside Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
to be honest I don't know the reason of this error, but try what I described and tell me if it works with you.
Good Luck
Well. I have the exact same phone and have tried several ROMs, either custom or stock and basebands also. Nothing seems to work. The very few users who reported it was working didn't provide much evidence of it. Even Wikipedia says no 3G 900MHz availability for this phone. A simple edit to NV 1877 values won't solve it. I've tried that too.

I'm having the same problem with Three UK, no 4G. Although 4G worked on my Lumia 1020 with the same SIM a few days ago.
If I go into the hidden menu under LTE you can set it to use LTE and it connects to 4G brefiely then goes back to 3G and it never shows GSM/ WCDMA / LTE auto in the mobile networks menu, just GSm / WCDMA auto.
I noticed on the demo unit in a Three store that the phones software version was V10a-EUR-XX whereas mine is V10g-HKG-XX.

Is there anything that can be done without root? I've tried setting the LTE in the hidden services menu and it connects foe a few seconds and then goes back to HSDPA. If seeting to LTE only it stays on LTE but not sure how it will work if I leave 4G coverage? I've also enabled fast dormancy but that doesn't seem to help.
There was a discussion about this in the UK thread, some phones came with 4G deactivated (on the 800MHz band used by 3 and Vodafone) that had to be activated at every boot. Replacing it fixed the problem as its not supposed to happen. But since the phone is from Asia who knows. Im not sure if flashing the eur version of the rom would work?

fast dormancy is a network dependant setting that has nothing to do with the generation of signal you are receiving.
The only other option you have is to try and flash another firmware version.

LTE will work from the hidden menu, or download 4G switcher from the Play store which will take you to the menu also. Just change it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA and it will work on the 4G network (at least on 3 UK). LG UK support will not help as it came from HK. I still want to know if I can flash a Euro 32GB ROM to my phone to get it working natively.
make sure u have activate your LTE with your carrier,i you have done it,and still didnt have LTE, try the hidden menu,or try 4G switch frm playstore, rooting and deleting lteconfig from system/app would be your last option (i prefer this)

my lte/3g/2g settings was everytime reset to 2g/3g modus when i got back to settings. i deleted lte config.apk and the .odex file, rebooted and BAM! it keeps on lte/3g/2g

I had the same issue (no LTE option in Networks configuration menu), until today: My phone installed firmware V10i-HKG-XX, and now I have the "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" option in Preferred Network Mode.

Do the following -
1. From the dailer, type in 3845#*855#
2. Select LTE Only
3. Modem Setting
4. RAT Selection
5. GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto
You should now receive 4G but everytime you reboot, you have to repeat this procedure

Dialler > 277634#*# opens the hidden menu
Field Test > Modem Settings > LTE BAND SELECTION > Tap Band 20.
If you're in the range of the 800 MHz the phone switch to it and will ONLY use it (until restart) or until you toggle WCDMA / LTE in the normal settings.
If you're getting No signal, go to manual network selection (do not change to WCDMA/LTE, leave it on LTE) and search for networks. If you don't see 3 RAT 4G, well, you don't have 800 Mhz.

hi, i have seen your previous guide on how to flash a G4 to work with 3's VoLTE

I have G710EAW (LG G7+) which has by default active LTE Bands 1,3,5,7,8,28. However I live in Europe and I with my carrier I would benefit from band 20 as well.
What I am doing currently, is via service menu I am activating manually all the bands I need (including band 20) in modem settings. This works perfectly fine, actually I am so used to it I can do it within seconds. Naturally after phone restart all is reverted.
It is a minor inconvenience, hence the question: any idea how to make the setting persistent or any tool that would do it after each reboot?
I would like to avoid installing firmware from other model (if that's even possible, I am layman in this...)

I don't know if Tasker needs root but you may be able to accomplish it with Tasker.
Although it may be a pain to setup i think tasker has a subreddit that you may be able to ask somebody who uses it more than I do

Well I do believe Qualcomm Snapdragon is an excellent platform and the build-in modem is capable of all bands. I do have EAW version (I think originally from Hong Kong).
The band selection is not available from OS, but if you dial *#546368#*710# there is a hidden menu where in
Field Test -> Modem Settings -> LTE Band Selection I have these bands available:
1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,20,25,28,29,30,38,40
To my limited experience any combination works just fine (I am in central EU). The drawback is that after reboot (or airplane mode) only the default (1,3,5,7,8,28) are on.
Just for the hell of it. I tried on my US phone, can't even access the menu Sucks.

It works for me on the T-Mobile variant you have to use the stock lg dialer and type the code in you cant just copy it in
How do you know this has worked? I toggled on the bands that I need bu there was no 'success' or save prompt and if I exit and re-do the process all the boxes are un-ticked when I navigate to the LTE bands page.

Hello.
AT&T has disabled all the international GSM\LTE bands on Z999, making it unusable outside of USA (at least in countries with GSM 900\1800, UMTS 2100 & LTE B3 & B20, like the one I live in). In order to change that, we need to turn on the Qualcomm USB Diag port, and for this, the phone has to be rooted.
I've been trying to root my AT&T Z999 for some time now, without any success, unfortunately. However, searching forums after forums, sites after sites, I've discovered the surprisingly easy method of turning on the Diag port without root.
It appears, that Axon M shares a lot with Axon 7, at least the secret key combination to enter Factory Test Mode:
Turn off the phone
Press and hold Power + Vol DOWN buttons until you see the screen "FTM" (see attached screenshot)
You have to press both buttons for the long time, do not release them when the phone starts - just wait until you see the screen. And that's it - you are now in Factory Test Mode and PC sees your phone as "ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface (COMxx)"
Now, in order to change the bands, you have to follow these guides one after one:
Backup IMEI and NVRAM (ignore all the steps to turn Diag port on, you've done that already)
Unlock LTE bands
Mod edit: Link removed! (this guide in in Russian, but all screenshots are in English & every step is pretty clear)
You would need this tool also.
Please remember, these things are complex, and require considerable experience with Android & Windows. DO NOT START unless you feel confident that you know, what you're doing. I'm serious. Do not try this, if you're not experienced.
WBR,
Draco.
Why mods deleted the link? Google translate exists.
Edit:
I've managed to get the data from the phone using QXDM.
lte_bc_config contained the value of "2251800618993690" now I'm parsing the info how to edit this. Seems like the tutorials don't really match this device. Now I wonder if the chipset can handle invalid data and just input all 1's. Unsupported frequencies just won't work.
Edit2: Writing all 1's didn't work.
Edit3: I wrote this value: "2251802901219551" Calculated with CDMATool. But it seems like the AT&T firmware only finds edge network. I've double checked the bands to be correct ones. So now I will switch to the chinese firmware.
Edit4: Final edit. Turns out you cannot flash chinese firmware on AT&T device. Sigh so my unit is stuck to EDGE/wifi only.

WBR,
Draco.

Does this really work? Anyone else tried?

can you repost the 3rd link?
I can't "repost" the 3rd link, but I can suggest you to open the well-known (and the best) Russian web-site with the name starting with "4" (and having something like "...pda" also), and then add this to the address: /forum/index.php?showtopic=546814&st=4640#entry35702698
Well that russian site has pretty good instructions on how to do it. I tried with one program and it didn't work on AT&T ZTE. I'll try with that qualcomm app again this weekend but if I remember right the last time it had trouble writing because it had no correct service mode code \o/

Every Quallcomm device has almost the same NVram configuration rules, the difference is usually on how to enable diagnostic port, but for Z999 I have figured that out already. So, for the configuration process, every Quallcomm guide should work.
I've successfully enabled Z999 to work with 2G & Edge in my country using these guides. 3G & LTE don't work yet, but I'm sure they will eventually. I don't believe Z999 lacks the hardware ability to use LTE B3 & B20 (and other bands), it has to be something wrong with NVram parameters.
For me 2G and Edge worked out of the box in Finland. Tried to enable more but only thing that changed was power usage. Not worth it

It means success unlock 2G/EDGE, not yet with 3G and LTE? When buy the device, it can use other carrer to call and 2G.
When you finger out the way to unlock LTE, please share me.
by the way, do you have the way to enter fastboot mode? I tried the "volunm + &power button" but it just do a normal restart into android.
Fair warning to everyone trying this, make sure you actually do a backup of your IMEI. I didn't and after screwing something up my SIM is no longer detected, and my IMEI is no longer available.
Hello folks!
I have an AT&T phone. I cannot connect to ANY (even EDGE) network!
I modified the configuration several times:
---
I have EDGE with this config:
00441: 0 and 0xFFFF
00946: 0 and 0x06A8
01877: 1677472
02954: 0
06828: 524356
06829: 524356
I got no LTE
---
test2:
06828: 524485
06829: 524485
I got no LTE
----
00441: 0xffff (but 0x380 is recommended)
00946: 0xff8
02954: 0 and 805765120
01877: 3460734838925427584
06828: 1904863
06829: 1904863
I got no LTE, just continous dropping network, useless config.
----
00441: 896
00946: 0 and 0x140
02954: 0 and 131072
01877: 562949974393728
Only edge network, error while searching for networks.
----
06828: 524485
06829: 524485
I have EDGE with this config, but no LTE.
----
Anyone has a good and working LTE mode?!
edit: "The bands on the AT&T z999 are: 2, 4, 5, 12, 29, 30, and 66. "
So, there won't be any Band 1,3,20 for us?!
Thanks!
No one has gotten LTE work on AT&T model. I wouldn't try this.

Have you been able to make 3G & LTE work? I just got my ZTE AXON M from ebay and since I can't use data or make calls/unlock the phone I was thinking of trying this.

Can I describe in detail how to enable 2G?
Thanks !
Hello guys. I've tried all configs mentioned by @ugynok and some of my own - the result is still the same, no 2G network and all options in mobile connections are disabled not clickable. Can you please advice which config worked for you to enable 2G network?
Any luck?
Hi all. Was anyone able to get a useful set of bands working in the UK for this phone?
Many thanks.
