This might not be a good place to go as I feel this might be a general android question, but here it goes..
My internet speed was recently increased from 50 to 105mbps, I have a wireless n wireless gateway, my wifi is broadcasting at 65mbps which is the real-world maximum speed of wireless n.. both my ZenFone 2 and my wife's htc one m9 should have wireless n.. yet from what I can tell, both of our phones seem to have a theoretical max of 45mbps with a real max of 47mbps. On my windows tablet I get a real max of 67 mbps. Is android incapable of truly handling wireless n? Is there some sort of hidden configurations I can mess with? or are we stuck with 20mbps less on our phones versus our other devices?

That is all fine and dandy.. but what are you pulling down via speedtest? Also I noticed my phone is connecting at 2.4ghz, not 5, so I'll have to check my router
Ugh.. as far as I can tell my cheap gateway only supports wireless n at 2.4ghz.. stupid comcast..
i connect at 72mps on my wireless n router and 400 somthing on friends wireless ac i did have to change channels to get it to see 5ghz a bug in some android phones i found channel 36 works and so does some of the 50s.
It sounds like it's mainly due to the crappy gateway from your ISP. If you are testing this between 2-3 meters from the gateway, the link connection rate should be higher than 67Mbps. You may or may not be able to change the channels that it broadcasts out. You could install a WiFi Scanner from the play store or for Windows on your Windows tablet and see which channels are clear in your immediate vicinity, and then adjust your gateway's broadcast accordingly. This would be particularity useful if you have many neighbors. You could also consider a shady move to force 40MHz band size if your gateway has that option.
To determine the link speed of your network excluding the internet, you could use a tool like LANSpeedTest. You would need a computer connected with Ethernet to the gateway. This computer is where you install the server for the test. You could then install the client (on your Windows tablet) that runs the test from your tablet to the computer. This speed is usually your bottleneck for Internet speeds, unless you have ridiculously fast internet. I've never used it on Android, but it looks like there are similar apps available. The particular speed on your phone may also be limited by the phone's chipset performance.
Best Solution? Get a decent router! And turn your gateway in whatever mode it needs to be in so that it does nothing else other than pass information back and forth.
The gateway was a crap single band wireless n.. switched it out for a dual band router today but haven't had a chance to plug it in as I'm still running errands
With the new 5ghz gateway I just pulled 98mbps in my ZenFone 2, which makes me happy.. now I just have to figure out why my wife's m9 performs worse on 5ghz than 2.4ghz. That phone is also supposed to support 5ghz wireless n

802.11n it is 5Mbps. (sometime i cant measure becouse wifi reconnect, droping, "lagging" conection - like connected but do nothing while browsing)

Im using AOKP milestone5 all stock but it has same on non rooted stock phone.

Try a different wifi channel on the router.
I think the GN supports any of the first four channels.
5GHz is disgracefully and HORRIBLY broken on the GN. Class action suit might be in order…

What I found is that the Nexus has a hard time with the 2.4 Ghz signal. I bought a nnew dual channel router and I set my Nexus to 5 Ghz only band and I get good speeds now. I know this sucks but the only work around I could find.

my router support 5Ghz but it only switch on it if its possible..In my area there is a lot networks thats why i think it is on 20Mhz - 2.4Ghz

I get better range on 2.4 (which is to be expected), but I connect and stay connected to 5ghz as well. I get an easy 15 down 10 up on 5ghz.
I'm wondering if someone can explain to me why the Speedtest results are so much different on my S3 compared to my desktop. Below are the results, taken one right after the other. Same WiFi network, and I used Clean Master on my phone to stop all unnecessary tasks too. I've done the speedtest multiple times on the phone over the past few weeks, trying everything to get a different result. It doesn't change, no matter if I do the test right after I power on the phone, if other apps are running, etc. Is there some kind of limit on WiFi speed that I just don't know about?

Do you have a dual band router? What OS on the desktop? I have noticed with my new dual band router that my S3 can pick up and connect to my 5ghz, but my Win7 laptop can't see it nor connect. Also noticed when I'm streaming from the devices that can see the 5ghz, the signal indicator goes crazy. That's essentially what the speed test is, its streaming so that could be the reason. Maybe its opposite for you with those speeds. Or also could be the priority of the desktop versus the phone.
My router is a dual band Belkin n750. My S3 actually sees both separate bands in the WiFi list, but the speedtest results don't change from one band to the other.
My desktop OS is Ubuntu 12.04. There has never been an issue with the desktop speedtests, and my PC is pretty good actually. I've even made sure nothing else is interfering with the speedtests by (temporarily for the test) changing the router's wireless PW, which kicked all my other devices off the network, so no chance they're hogging bandwith. But still got pretty much the same results.

Well the s3 probably just can't transfer that fast and so it lags behind
Probably boils down to power. The S3 is rinning on a fairly small battery, while your desktop computer is plugged into the wall. Also, as batteries age, their output does decrease, so that could be an additional factor.
LG's website says the LG G4 has 802.11ac but my phone is only connecting with 802.11n. Can anyone confirm if they are connecting the AC? Any suggestions?

This might sound dumb, but are you sure your router has 802.11ac and not just N and that in the router configuration it is turned on? Figure I would cover the basics first
Are you sure the other devices on the network are all on AC? Because my understanding is that if one device on the wifi network does not meet the requirements, that every device gets dragged downwards.
Please let me know.
I have a Ubiquity UAP-AC access point. Most devices connect to it through N. The only other 802.11ac device I have is a Linksys WUMC710 media bridge. It connect does connect properly on AC.

first time I have heard that after some quick googling it looks like ac devices will slow if there's a 5 GHz N device connected and actively using that connection and wont slow completely to N speeds but not necessarily to N speeds
You will still connect using 802.11ac, but performance would suffer if you have slower clients connected. Your connection rate should still say 390Mbps or so.
It says 433 here, so yes, ac is working fine (maxing out my 120Mbit subscription) :good:

Is there anyway to boost my Connection Rate? My N6 I had before this & My N9 connects at 866Mbps. This doesn't even come close!. I think its at 290Mbps.

Depends how many spatial streams the device supports.
40MHz 2x2 - 300Mbps
40MHz 3x3 - 450Mbpa
40MHz 4x4 - 600Mbps
80MHz 1x1 - 433Mbps
80MHz 2x2 - 867Mbps
80MHz 3x3 - 1300Mbps
Make sure your wireless router is utilizing 80MHz.

Something is funny with this chip compared to my note 4 with same router configurations even on 80mhz it wont always connect as AC

On modem i also have tried to change wide channel frequency from 20mhz to 40 mhz with no results, on my laptop the link speed is 300mbps with 40mhz channel and 144 with 20mhz channel, why on my phone (sony z1 compact) still at 72mbps? I have root so i can change some system files, the modem is wireless N 2.4 ghz if it helps

I think 72mbps is not total it represents 72 upload and 72 download. Don't get bothered with these figures, it is the real speed that matters, 2.4ghz gives only 4-6 Mega byte max, Doesn't matter if it is 300 mbps or 72mbps. Dual channel(5ghz) can give you more speed if required.
I will partially disagree with what you said. It might be true for a smartphone (Z1C in particular) but if we're talking about a laptop that's another story. My laptop connected to my 2.4Ghz network can copy from my wired 1Gbps desktop with 100Mbps (10MB/s). Our phone might not be able to do any better on 2.4Ghz. Mine connects at 72Mbps on 2.4Ghz as well and at 300+Mbps on 5Ghz. Results below on 2.4 and 5Ghz and I'm not reaching my max internet connection speeds even on 5Ghz.

Yeah you are right my deaktop also connects at 150mbps but i tried may routers and phone but link speed was always 72mbps. May be it's android way or representing link speed or may be hardware limitation. In 5ghz it shows actual speed.

Isn't this setting up to the router your connecting to? I think it will be used if the router is setup for 40mhz on 2.4ghz, but you should move to 5ghz frequencies anyway.

Yeah, most routers will probably be in 20 MHz mode by default, especially in a busy area. But if you have it on 40 MHz mode then it's still not gonna use the 40 MHz because Motorola disabled it for some reason which is why this module exists and works.
And the only thing wrong with the g8 power is the lack of ****ing 5ghz wifi. It's insane, and why this is a ****ing godsend. 72 Mbps link speed and that's it? This was the only phone that wanted me to stick it back in the box and send it because it took FOREVER to download updates. It's pretty easy for me at least to tell when I finally get some damn speed in this thing lol
And earlier this month I went back to my blackberry 9900 from 2009, and it felt like the future.(because I lost the stupid sim tray like an idiot and had to order one which is working fine now that I snipped the eject tool hole on it) 5 ghz wifi on that thing, not to mention NFC! And the wifi hotspot on that thing holy ****, it's super efficient and works extremely well even though the network's only h+. In my experience with android phones turning on the hotspot has always been like you started its furnace
I'm very surprised that the G8 radio does not include 5ghz, I almost did not believe it and had to look up the tech specs as the previous G7 Power had it and my Moto G Power which is basicaly the NA version of the G8 all support 5Ghz WiFi.
For the people who actually are stuck with 2.4ghz only routers, there is the possibility applying the 40mhz configuration could cause some signal loss depending how far or behind how many walls the signal must travel through, so there is pros/cons to this modification.
Seeing as my fibre Broadband connection is 48Mbps max (limited by distance to exchange), I'm not going to have a problem with wifi perf.

not all things are equal worldwide, sofia models have 5ghz, sofiar does not. No-one got screwed
