If I call up the browser and then turn the phone on its side, the screen rotates to landscape mode as it should. But after it rotates, it won't rotate back to portrait no matter how I orient the phone. Is this normal?
Nope, not normal, don't have a solution for u tho, sorry

Added some basic testing how-to. Let me know "ok" or "not ok". I will have to return my phone today if this is not a generic issue
250 views - no responses from the nexus owners?
anyhow, just realised LIGHT sensor works in daylight (at least from 10 to 160 lux). However, still no cookie on the proximity sensor - can anyone confirm or deny please?
My prox sensor works just fine. Not really had chance to check the light sensor as Ive only just bought the phone and had it set to full brightness. Ill post back shortly..
mine seems to be functioning fine here.

Right then i can confirm the light sensor works in mine too in daylight
Proximity sensor not though... anyone else?! this is really strange
Both work on mine.

Mine is OK as well.
Mine seems fine for both
Both work perfectly on mine! For the proximity sensor, try it during a call! It might be trivial but just saying.

AndroSensor says both work but auto brightness (auto dullness?) is useless and I triggered a keypad press while on a call...

see - thats exactly the point. The sensor does NOT work (on mine)
Proximity Sensor - will switch display off to avoid the keypress or other issues while on call when you are holding it to your face(ear). And re-enable display when moved away from the face
Autobrigh: measures ambient light and then adjusts brightness accordingly
you may have both confused?
check with AndroSensor:
proximity sensor - cover it with your hand (next to the front camera) and the values should change in AndroSensor - but they dont. neither does the display switch off during calls when detecting your face (actually just detecting "no light")
I will return my GN. I had enough.
The light sensor works according to AndroSensor but auto brightness simply dims the screen to a useless level. Likewise proximity sensor works (values are either 0 or 2 inches) but whilst the screen does indeed dim during calls key presses are still possible infuriatingly. Software fix would cure both.

Light sensor works fine.
Proximity sensor does not work. I think it stopped working after the volume fix OTA.
For my device, the proximity value changes fine however the screen doesn't turn on off when answering and ending a call. hv to lock the screen and unlock the screen manually to prevent mistouch..
Just tested and the screen turns off just fine for me on a call.

I know this topic is kind of old, but I'm still having the proximity issue, do you think I should return my nexus?
Mine doesn't work either, since 4.02 I think. Are there any settings that should be enabled for it to work like gprs or location services or is the proximity service always running?

I recently went from Miui to 4.4.1 Alpha 2 currently on stock when I turn my phone to go into landscape it just stays in landscape until I restart my phone... I go into my gallery in portrait mode and my gallery just isn't straight its slightly turned to the right (keep in mind gingerbread gallery uses the gyroscope sensor). I went into recovery mode to see if I can reset my rotation setting but I guess that option doesn't exist anymore someone please help... how do I reset my gyroscope to rotate properly??????

I am new user of android/smart phone. I've HTC One X and few back the screen stopped detecting when I tilted or rotated the phone. when I view the pictures or videos it wouldn't flip to landscape mode, It also not respond to games that involve tilting the screen e.g. teeter/temple run etc.
I tried to calibrate but it results in "calibrate stooped" both in normal and safe mode.
Settings/Display & Gestures,Auto-rotate screen is ticked
please advise, or suggest anything that might help me
Try factory reset

Dear Friend,
I also tried all of them. Flushing, restoring everything. But nothing worked. But I noticed something and that worked for me. I am running Android 4.2.2 JB Endeavor on my HTC one X. Just go to Setting--> Display, gestures & buttons. There you will find Auto Rotation. Uncheck it. Then Power off the Phone (Not Restart) just power off the Phone for 10 to 20 minutes. Then just power on the phone. Then you will find your tilt sensor is working. Now you can play Temple run also. But your auto rotation is unchecked. Your camera will also auto rotate as default. If you want to browse internet or play apps that you want to do auto rotate then just check the auto rotate from Setting--> Display, gestures & button menu. That 100% worked for me. May be if you have to restart your phone for software updates or for any issue you may find that again your Auto rotation is gone!!!! That behavior also I discovered. So you just need to uncheck the Auto rotation again and just power off the phone for 10 min or 20 min. Then just power on your phone then you will find that your Auto rotation is working and even if you calibrate G sensor it will show you OK. If it not works try the procedure again with the Fastboot option leaving it unchecked. Uncheck your fastboot and again try the above procedure. It really worked for me. I hope that will work for all of you. It is just an unknown fault of JB for HTC one X. May be updating to 4.2.2 is a total loss. HTC one X came with 4.0.3 ICS. I think It was perfect.
Thanks all of You.
My Note 3 neo upgraded to 4.4.2 and unfortunately just found out that the auto rotate not function for example displaying photo on portrait mode it did not turn to landscape when rotate the phone horizontally. Checked setting "auto rotate" is enabled.
Any one have BKM?
Thanks
maybe your sensors are not working....
goto phone and dail *#0*#
then goto sensors and test each one....it will show wheather your proximity sensor or any other sensor is working or not....
You can install CPU Z app too.. and check if all the sensors are working..
