Can't uninstall any app - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm in possesion of a brand new Galaxy S4mini since about 3 weeks. The 2 first weeks everythin worked fine but then i observed that my phone is losing signal. I figured out that this happens when the phone try to switch to LTE signal. After that i have reset my phone to factory settings and configured the phone from the begining. I installed all the apps i always install and also had installed on my previous Galaxy S3 mini. LTE is working fine but i have another problem now.
I'm unable to remove any application. When i press on uninstall it is all the time "uninstalling" but nothing happens, the progres bar is just floating and floating. And cannot go back, the onlu option i have is go to HOME via the home button but the app is still installed. Throught Google Play i'm also unable to uninstall the app, same case, all the time the message "uninstalling". The applications have no Admin rights on the phone. I tried a factory reset many times and also wiped the phone. I also observed that my phone is rebooting sometimes by his own.
Edit: i am also unable to install any new app from the Play store. Same think like uninstalling. I click on Install and the progress bar is floating but nothing happens.
The phone is not rooted with stock Android 4.4.2
Have you any idea what can cause this issue and how to solve this? Could this be caused by an apllication installed on the device or could this be a software issue of Android?
If i have a valid warranty is this kind of issue clasifying for warrant?
Sorry for my english, i am from Poland.
Cheers

If you've tried wiping the phone and its still not uninstalling apps could be corrupt memory which is definitely covered by your warranty.
Some weird issues there. Also if it's rebooting by itself sounds like something is not right.
A 3 week old phone shouldn't do this. What Android version are you running?

Hi,
Thanks for your quick response. I have Android 4.4.2
Kernel 3.4.0-3173303
So yeah....i think i go on monday to an autorized Samsung service point and tell them whats happening and i hope this case will be clasified as warranty.
Maybe till then anyone else have other ideas what i can do i that case?
Thanks

All I can recommend is flashing the latest stock ROM for your device model and country code twice over using latest Odin. Maybe that will help. Else I think you've done everything you can. Your not using some weird app that could be messing with things?
Stand your ground with Samsung as every company I've had problems with has tried to blame me when clearly the device was faulty. But I always got what I wanted just stay strong and don't give up.
Best of luck.

Thx buddy, i have given the S4 mini a last chance. I switched back to my old S3 mini and wiped the S4mini on more time. I haven't installed any app so i will observe what happened. If nothing then i know that the issue is caused by an app. I will install my apps one by one, day by day and look whats happen.
Thank you, i will answer to this post hence i know whats going on.
Cheers

Google Talk issue - after a few minutes Contacts are all offline when not

I posted this in NilsP's Business GingerSense thread, but don't think it's a ROM issue, more of a Google Talk issue. Running the 2.0 version of that ROM.
The issue is where Google Talk shows all your contacts as Offline after a period of say five to ten minutes, maybe shorter than that. I'll be messaging someone, and after a few minutes when they haven't responded, I'll wake my phone and open GT. All the contacts are Offline. A simple sign out/sign in fixes that, and the usual contacts show Online or Away.I've noticed this all week, so I'm thinking it's a GT issue, but I've never had it happen before.
Don't want to have to sign out/in every time I want to use it. Cleared GT cache, fix permissions, multiple wipes of data/system/cache/boot/dalvik/user data before each ROM install, and haven't had this before now.
Thoughts?
EDIT: After playing, it happens when switching from 3G to WiFi and vice versa, so maybe it is a ROM thing...?
i'm having the same issue. noticed after my gingerbread OTA update from verizon.
Droid 2.
It seems to happen a few minutes after logging on.
I also have that issue with Gtalk. After some time all contacts appear to be offline, but only when I'm on data connection and not on wifi.
There is still no solution for this?
Cheers!

Me too. Anyone was able to do something?
Well I've since moved on, and haven't noticed it on other ROMs. Right now I just tested toggling Wifi on and off, and the contacts would appear offline, then come online once 3g or wifi connected.
I'm thinking in my case, it was that version of the ROM I was running at the time.

Just a thought, check any task killers / managers and make sure talk is unchecked. I had the same problem a long time ago and ATK was the culprit. Haven't had the issue since and I have used almost every Rom possible at one point or another

True. Right after I rooted over a year ago, I had an issue with the alarm clock not going off intermittantly, and coincidentally I was using ATK at the time. After reading that ATK could be the issue, uninstalling it fixed the issue. Since then, I don't actively kill tasks, but I do have System Panel installed just in case.
I'm running Stock+ v2.6, and since moving on from v2.0 of NilsP's ROM where I had the initial issue, I haven't noticed/had the problem.

Hi,
Me and the other user are I9000 users. No task killers. We're trying to figure out if its a stock / custom ROM issue (since we're both using the same ROM), or some app forcing GTalk to sign out, or even a network problem (we both use the same mobile operator).
Thank you both for your input.
If you're on a stock ROM (you're both rooted right?), back up your ROM and flash another just to see if it happens in something different.

Yes, we are.
The thing is that it seems to me that it happened only after XXVJR (meaning it happened to me in XXJVS and XXJVT, and now we're already at XWJVU, all these being Samsungs "leaks"), and I have a friend with XXJVS that works just fine.
I even tried flashing a stock ROM, to see if it happens again. Testing that one now.
Thanks for your advice.
Same problem here.
Although I have not tried it with stock non rooted phone...
I'm having the same problem on a stock rooted Motorola Photon. Very annoying to have to sign out and back in to see who's online. Hopefully someone comes to the rescue with a solution.
Hi,
The only thing I could find is that the problem is, indeed, NOT in the custom ROM's. It's google's problem.
The only way I could get by was with an alternative IM. And, for me, the better is Trillian (taking battery, performance, etc. in consideration.)
I updated my software which included an updated gtalk with video..so far so good.

I am having this issue too. I have had it since the beginning, when I had the preinstalled stock rom, I had it with all the other stock roms I flashed, I had it with all the versions of Talk I tried (those which supported video calls), I had it with all the other customs roms I tried (Simplicity, CyanogenMod, MIUI). I never used any task killer. For these reasons I am strongly convinced this is a Google Talk related bug.
Some more details about the problem:
after a few minutes after having logged in, contacts are shown offline on Android while they appear online on the desktop client;
despite their offline status I still receive messages from them and as soon as I answer only that contact appears online while the others keep being shown offline;
signing out and back in fixes the problem temporarily, but it happens again after a few minutes.
What surprises me is how come very few people seem noticing it or being annoyed by it? How come a huge bug like this has been out for so long and Google hasn't fixed it yet? All the posts I have seen reporting this problem on Google Talk Help Forum have been ignored.
Exact same problem with my I9100, Gtalk with video. Very annoying.
I have the SGS i777 (Samsung Galaxy S2 on AT&T), and just recently (since late February) started experiencing the same issue. When on WiFi, it doesn't appear to be an issue, only when not on WiFi, particularly if I have just recently turned off WiFi.
Other "friends" show me as "Away", so I am connected.
This is bone stock 2.3.6 Samsung official ROM (never rooted UCKK6).
I tried crawling a bit through the logs (aLogCat output), filtering for "[Tt]alk", but I can't make enough heads or tails about where the failure might be (not being an actual developer), other than lots of messages get created. I'll see if I can't figure something more useful out about it.
A hard reset with no apps installed has the same problem. Though I've noticed that the problem appears to get "worse" as the phone "ages" - namely, hard reset fixes the problem, but it slowly (over days) gets worse and worse.
Update: I have not noticed this issue at all since getting the official Samsung/AT&T ICS build (IML74K.CLE5).
Google Talk failing for toooo loooong
Hi there,
I'm a cyanogen 7.1 (stable) android user, and I just want to join myself to every other person who's affected by this issue.
I'll leave here some links to other places discussion exactly the same issue:

You may check this thread: groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!topic/chat/6m0YqHoiIDg
Until now, I wasn't also able to find any clue to what the cause may be.
Starting to suspect that's something on Google's side, not android/rom itself.
Maybe something to do with our google accounts' settings?
Are there any news about this issue? I'm having the same problem.

[Q] Problems after 2.3.6 update

I got the update pushed to my phone yesterday and ever since there has been nothing but problems! First, the battery drains at a ridiculous rate. I unplugged it at 10:30 am and by 3:00 pm I was down to 60% without anything going on except 7 text messages. I can usually go 24 between charges. Second, the overall speed of the phone has slowed to a crawl. Web pages take forever to load, the app marked just hangs on the loading screen, and apps even take minuets just to open. Third, my phone randomly loses data connection. I cannot load any apps that require a data connection even when the wifi and 3G logo are showing with full bars. I get an error massage that says "connection failed" or "retry." it's so bad that when trying to sync notes or email my phone has the scroll wheel of death and freezes on that page. I've had the phone since thanksgiving and haven't done anything to it, its completely stock, I don't even know how to jailbreak it! I haven't had any issues whatsoever before I updated and now my phone is pretty much unusable. Is anyone else experiencing this? I need there to be an update to fix this update or for someone to tell me how to downgrade back to 2.3.4
You should try rooting and running an custom rom or kernel. I've received the ota as well but i immediately rooted afterwards. Im running the stock rom but using a custom, overclockable kernel, and its quick! Rooting is VERY easy on this particular phone & the instructions can be found here in the android development section of this phone model. Or you could simply just take the phone back and ***** to sprint about it and maybe they'll issue you a new unit.
I prefer not going to sprint at all simply because the only store with a repair center here where i live i worked at and it was terrible, but I need help. I want to know the simplest way to root and revert back to 100% out of the box stock if possible... If not i'll suck it up and go to the store

Do I need to root because this just shows him unrooting the phone?
You have been such a blessing! Thanks so much for being patient and dealing with my ignorance...
lol don't know yet.. but you are definitely more of a professional than I am so I am taking your word for it
I appreciate it. If I do encounter any problems I will let you know but so far so good. It's pretty easy to follow
It worked! Thanks again
Thanks! Being that I'm a pro now I will look into the whole rooting and flashing rooms. I even got the lingo down lol
Question though... Do I flash roms the same way as in the video or is there something different I have to do?

UVLH1 crashes consistently

So I updated through kies to uvlh1, and the phone seemed smooth and responsive at first. But after updating all the apps through google play and now whenever I add/click the accu weather, or other widgets, TwLauncher crashes and the screen goes black for at least 1 minute before becoming useable again. I tried reflashing through odin but it made no difference. Only a factory reset (data clear) remedies the problem. Can anyonr confirm/ help? (besides installing a different launcher)
Edit: the problem seems to be the my account app. After updating it, the phone became unresponsive for a few seconds, and the problem resurfaced.
next time check how much free memory it has left
if it works fine, until you download apps from Android Market
then that means one of the Apps from Market, is most likely the cause of the problem
so, instead of letting it automatically install all the Apps you had in the Market
do it manually, and choose specific apps that you use to install
do it one at a time, and see how the phone responds, rinse and repeat until you find the faulty App
This is the very same reason why i came back to CM9 from CM10, found several Apps that were not behaving properly on JB, but works without any problem on ICS
many Apps has since been updated to be JB compatible, so keep an eye on your favourite apps, or those must have installed apps to make sure they are compatible with JB

The memory is fine, but after reinstalling every app except the my account one, the error seems to have vanished. However, id like to know if anyone has the same problem. Because otherwise, my phone is crazy and i need to call tmobile for an exchange.
So don't update my account

I have noticed that the new Facebook app have some bugs that makes the phone to crash. I get a white screen and then later it says fb stop responding. but then again I have noticed some lag on the this update and on the one before.
I think they have a new app that is kinda like my account but it uses the browser use that instead. the only thing you cant do right now is pay your bill but they will be adding that feature soon.

[Q] GPS Not Connecting...

I am on my 3rd GS3. The issue I am having is that my Navigation programs (default and telenav) will search and search for satellites, but won't connect. But when I restart my phone, it will work fine for a day or two then back to no connection.
I have spoken to Sprint and this is an unreported problem... until me. So, Sprint will replace my device. I am unrooted and completely stock. I know that Sprint is in Nashville, TN working on installing the 4gLTE towers. It isn't live yet, but they will turn on and off periodically.
I have searched these threads and I have not heard of any others with this issue. My first GS3 was rooted, but I have not done the two replacements. This has only occurred on an unrooted device.
Has anyone heard of this issue and know a resolution? I am considering rooting again to see if that is a fix. This is not a horrible issue, it is much better than a device that won't boot, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Currently Rooted running the people's rom (3.06) GPS works flawlessly. I have tested and used Scout (By Telenav) Telenav, and Google Maps with no issues at all (tested in FL, MS, And parts of AL during my drive there and back) Haven't had any issues tho.
Mine worked fine while unrooted but started not initializing for startup apps that needed it after i rooted it. I would have to go to the app directly for it to start the GPS. Otherwise the app would continuously look for location. Unfortunately I haven't been able to narrow it down to any one Rom or kernel. Any one else with this issue?

Before I returned my phone for another replacement, I decided to delete all of the apps that I had downloaded. I then rebooted my phone. After 2 days, it worked fine. I then began installing apps one by one. I figured the problem had to be app specific and only apps that use gps. There was one of two apps I decided was the culprit: Facebook or JuiceDefender. I installed Facebook and it worked fine for 2 days. Ample time for the issue to appear. I have figured out that all along JuiceDefender is the problem. It is shutting off GPS like it is supposed to, but not turning it on when it is supposed to. The problem started when I reverted to stock and took the OTA Android update. I am just embarrassed that it took until now to look at the apps as the problem and not the phone. I am going to contact JD and let them know what I have found. I hope there can be a fix, JD really works well... except for my gps!
Anyways, look at apps first as the problem child before running to a repair shop (like I did!) .
Hope this helps others...

JD is designed to disable data connection to conserve battery, You can set it for a threshold where it will keep the connection alive if it's transmitting information back and forth.. (Must have Ultimate for that i believe) So if your disabling the data connection, then it'll kill GPS.
It is set on balanced. That is why I didn't think of juice defender first. Never had this issue until android updated.

I am having the same problem. My GPS will work, but for me, it's only for about 15 mins or so (while in an App that starts it). Then, if I stay in the app, it will just lose connection. If I exit the App, and the GPS turns off, then when I go back it, it will not turn on again. It isn't like it is searching and it doesn't get a signal...it never turns on. The only thing to bring it back is to reboot. I noticed it while on a custom ROM (TPR) and thought it must be that, so I flashed back to stock. Still the same thing. I then tried doing a factory reset. Still not working properly. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I took it in to Sprint they said it was the bad antenna and will give me a refurbish phone. This phone is less than a month old and why I will take a refurbish phone. Like I bought a brand new car and come in for a fix and they took me to the use car lot for a factory certificated car.
So I sent to Samsung and they claimed replacing a part and got the phone back, same problem is still happening.
Anyone can help us on this. It seems a common issue to a few of us.
Here is a simple GPS fix that works well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201668

WiFi on the G3 headaches [SOLVED]

I just got an LG G3 last friday (Black Friday) on T-Mobile (got tired of Sprint). Anyway for the most part this phone has been great. A minor glitch with a game (possibly from porting it's data over from my S3). The main problem I have is with the WiFi.
First off WiFi calling sucks. If I don't have 3 or more bars on my WiFi connection the call gets fuzzy. During one call that was clear it just randomly dropped. So that isn't cool.
Secondly, if I connect to a WiFi network at home or work or where-ever and then go somewhere else and come back or go to another place with a network I want to connect to it won't connect at all. It will show all the networks and give me the option to connect. But instead of connecting it will try to connect for a long while and then just give up. I cannot get connected again until I reboot.
I have tried the suggestions found on this thread (and other places): http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/lg-g3-wifi-issues-t2829811
No luck with those suggestions. Which include the following:
Turn off and back on the wifi radio.
Disabling the "wifi signal is weak" option.
Disabling the battery saving for wifi.
Forgetting the network (my network list was automatically imported from my Google account).
Installing the "WiFi Manager" app and enabling the 5GHz channels (US) and changing 2.4GHz channels to "Complete".
Made sure that "Internet unavailable" option is disabled.
Made sure that "Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off" is set to "Yes".
Disabling NFC.
Disabling BlueTooth.
Disabling Wi-Fi calling.
I don't have problems with a weak signal. So I am perplexed. My Samsung Galaxy S3 worked just fine on these networks. Restarting always seems to allow me to connect again. But I shouldn't have to restart every time I want to connect to WiFi.
All of my other wireless devices connect just fine in the household (a PS3, my fiance's Moto X, my old S3, MacBook Pro, Lenovo Windows 8 laptop, an HP running Ubuntu 14.10, and another Lenovo running Ubuntu 13.04).
Why is an older model phone doing so much better than the G3? Both phones are rooted (old and new). Does anyone have a fix? My phone is currently running LG's factory rom "D85110m". That is with Android 4.4.2 (my old S3 is on a cyanogen rom of the 4.4.x series as well).
Please help me fix this. Otherwise I might return it for an S5.
Thanks!
**** Update ****
Per my below post, it seems I have fixed my problem. I ended up doing two factory resets, unrooted, and did a final factory reset to fix the problem. Then I switched to the PurpleDrake method to root it the second time (and it worked really well without any issues).
Good luck everyone!

It is on 10m. Do I need to unroot before I do the factory reset? I have never had to do one before.
So it appears that doing a factory reset does not fix it. I guess I am taking it back and having them replace it. And I will demand it be a brand new one since I just got this phone a little over a week ago.
SOLVED!!!!
Ok, so I finally got it fixed. Albeit accidentally as I didn't expect it to be fixed at this point.
Here is what I ended up doing:
Two factory resets.
Unrooted the phone (via these instructions: http://www.androidrootz.com/2014/07/how-to-unroot-lg-g3-all-variants.html).
One last factory reset at T-Mobile store by me (because they forced me to).
The wifi did not start working correctly again until after that very last factory reset that I did. The unroot process also does a factory reset. But, and this may be key, it downgraded my phone to 10c from 10m in the process. I then did an OTA to 10m after the final reset.
I unrooted it because T-Mobile's diag software detected it was rooted and said that made the warranty invalid. And after I unrooted it I took the phone back to the store and demonstrated the problem to the employee that sold me the phone in the first place. He tested it for about 10 minutes and came to the same conclusion as myself. He then had to go to his manager to approve the replacement.
They got out the new phone to replace it with then the manage told me that he was required to have us to one more factory reset. So I went into the settings on the phone and did one last reset. And for some reason, since this point, the wifi problem has gone away.
I think it is possible that something I did to the phone caused the problem in the first place. But since I did so much to it in the first few days (rooted and installed a ton of apps) I am not entirely sure. My two current theories are it was either caused by this malware infected flashlight app I installed that kept popping up the Play Store to install a particular app. Or it was caused by the rooting method I used.
The original rooting method I used was "Stump Root". So the second time around I used the PurpleDrake method. This is a tiny bit more tedious, but very effective and it didn't seem to break anything. Further, when I installed TWRP I made sure that I grabbed the recommended image for it that is specifically for the US T-Mobile LG G3 device and installed that using Flashify.
After I got it safely rooted I tested the crud out of it and it seems to be working fine.
One last thought. It is possible that somehow Titanium backup caused the problem when I restored text and call logs. But I seriously doubt it.
Anyway, if anyone has any questions for me about this please shoot me a message. I am more than happy to help.
Thanks,
Patrick
