NTFS - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have T700 and rooted LP 5.0.2 stock rom.
How can I get NTFS SD card mount and read/write in my Tablet ?

EDIT: Are you talking about the Internal microsd reader as i dont know, I though you were taking about connecting and usbstick or usbhdd, if so you will need an otg cable see link below, I bought a couple of these and they work great with the software below.

I asked the same question last week, the only answer i got was.
You need to install the "total commander" and "usb plugin for total commander" then you will be able to see ntfs files.

[Q] USB OTB/Micro SD Card Reader

Question question regarding USB OTG Cables/Micro SD Card Readers. I know you can view content on them (movies, music, documents, etc). However, can you write to the flash drive/micro sd card? Basically, I'm curious because I know I could store roms on the flash drive or micro sd and play them from there, but I would like to store saves to it as well (so saves would not have to be stored on the Nexus 7).
I'm interested in the Meenova MicroSD Card Reader (I go for the card reader over a USB OTG because I do not need a large flash drive - a 64GB micro sdxc is sufficient), just curious if I can write to it as well or only read.
Thanks!
I've had no trouble writing to my Kingston 16GB SDHC through a usb reader.
The only thing I would mention is that you'll need a custom kernel to access NTFS file systems. Also you should note that the kernel in question needs to have write enabled for the NTFS module. This had me stumped when installing a kernel without it enabled, and it only ever mounted it read-only. Of course, if you're using FAT then you don't need to worry about any of this.

I'm close to purchasing the Nexus 7 2013. The one thing holding me back is the USB drive issue. I want to be able to access the drive via the microUSB port and read&write to it like I would on a PC. You know, open an excel file, modify it, and close/save. All on the USB drive. Are you saying that can be done easily enough? I don't mind rooting, either. Don't want to but can if necessary.
Thanks. So from your post and reading a few other posts, unless you're rooted, you cannot write to NTFS (only read), but you can write to Fat systems. I really don't plan on having any files greater than 4GB so I believe Fat will work. Thanks!

Working Method to Read NTFS? Tried some but no luck.

I researched for ways to make 10.1 14 read any external HD with NTFS format thru OTG.
Found a couple of ways, tried and it still show me empty folder.
Tried both Stickmount and [root]Ntfs Mounter and both doesn't work. It tried both of them with my 3 HDD (256 GB SSD, 1TB and 2TB WD Passport).
I was hoping to connect it without having to reformat any of the disk to ExFAT or FAT32.
Is there any method that's working yet
Really appreciate the help. TIA.

Hi,
There is only one working solution as I know.
You have to install TotalCommander and then also the relate USB plug-in.
The only limit is that for NTFS is read-only.
For all the other programs you find on the store for OTG management, are not working because of the restrictions made by SELinux in enforcing mode.
To solve this, you have to find a working custom kernel that sets SELinux in Permissive mode. But as far as I know there is nothing for sm-p605.

Thanks for the response. So that's why everything that I'm trying just tells me its mounted but doesnt show me anything.
I was hoping to use it as OTG storage so read-only seems pointless at this moment.
I guess we wait right Thanks again sir!

AFAIK, bindroid kernel is coming with NTFS support, limited to SM-P600 and SM-P601.
Since about two days there's a new version of Stickmount, which will during the first run download additional stuff to enhance compatibility. I would suspect an Ntfs driver.
without ntfs drivers in kernel, you cannot read ntfs format...

[Q] USB OTG ntfs

Hi, if any of you tried to connect a flash drive with ntfs file system? Unfortunately my 32gb sandisk extreme is unrecognizable. I have tried programs like StickMount, Paragon NTFS Mounter and exFAT, NTFS & HFS +, and only the last one detects the flash drive but can not read the files on it.
Did you download the helper functions for StickMount and put them in the correct place? I've successfully reading a NTFS external hard drive on my S5 with that combo but haven't tried it on my tablet.

Unfortunetly no. Can U help me?
EDIT: I put ntfs-3g on internal storage ( /sdcard ) but it still does not work. StickMount shows that mass storage is mounted in sdcard/usbstorage/sda1 but I dont have folder sda1 :/
EDIT2: I found where StickMount is mounted usb (data/media/0/usbStorage/sda1). I see all files but when I try to open (pdf or mkv movie) shows error (Adobe or VLC found usb error try to refresh media library).
EDIT3: When I copy file from usb to my sdcard everything is working. Any ideas how to read files from mounted USB or what is wrong?

I too have have tried all the different apps to read any OTG flashdrive. NTFS, 32bit and so on, none would work. Advised by one of kernel developers that rom/kernel must support OTG mounting and stock kernel does not. So it's not what you are doing but the stock device doesn't support. Only available by installing a custom rom/kernel that does. So far I think there is only one I know of for the 10.5 wifi. Not what sure what you are running but check the two threads for a kernel that will for you device. Good luck and if you find one, please come back and post what u found.

[Q] Cant write to 128gb mSD card - no root

Hi
i have a Samsung SM -T800 and just recently needed to increase storage. So checked the specs and bought a micro sd 128 gb.
(My device is Not rooted)
When i try to use the default native samsung file manager it complains when i try to write to it. (Unsuccessful)
If i put in a smaller 1gb card its OK. I tried the 128gb in my Lenovo tablet and it works fine it (rooted) and in a desktop.
I tried my favorite file explorer esfile and the time i go to add a file it prompts to accept using samsung native interface but that still falls too.
I formatted it in the tablet and mount and unmount it safely but no joy.
i looked at using sd fix and sd mount apps but they all need root
Running android 5.0.2
i am wanting to root the device but currently the guide does not have CF file for SM-T800
it probably doesnt support a card that big
Yup it does, specs show it can and i even contacted samsung support to confirm before buying it.

How do i read external hdd with NTFS file system?

Hi.
Android does not support NTFS supposedly, but you can install apps that allow android to read an NTFS file system.
I have an powered otg lead, and it can read fat32 external hdd with no problems, it`s just ntfs i am having problems with.
There are a few apps on Google Play.
Can anybody recommend an good app, I am rooted but my brother in law`s 10.5" is not, so an app that works without rooting will be great.
Thanks
John.

I'm on stock 5.0.2 no root same 10,5" t805 . May be you must upgrade to lolipop or if your brother won't to upgrade , the choice is must be root the tab, or try again to format your flashdisk to NTFS and then pluged again
I have Root and my brother-in-law is on lollipop, this is really for my brother-in-law, so lollipop is compatible with NTFS? , according to google it does not.
Thanks
John.

Yes it's compatible , try it
You can consider to use this one:

My brother-in-law will be happy to know this, less messing about.
Thanks

My brother-in-law tried his 2TB WD USB Drive and it is not detected on his T800, but if he plugs in an Usb-Flash-Stick the stock file explorer automatically opens and shows the files straight away.
My brother-in-law does not even know hot to find out what files system his usb 2tb hdd is, but i think it must be ntfs.

Usb drive must ntfs because fat32 can't proses file above 4gb, you need usb Otg with additional power because the power from tab s not enough to proses 2tb usb drive

Thanks

Ok, A member on the NBR forum, told me how to read NTFS without root for free "Get total commander and the USB stick plug in and you can read and write NTFS without needing root"
John.
Have you tried with ES file explorer?
