I need some serious help. I have been trying to get this fixed for the better part of a year now and I give up. I can't access my SD card, by any means.
I can't download an app with rooted premission
I can't wipe from ANY recovery
I can't take it out and wipe on another device
I can't wipe it from my computer
I can't do ANYTHING to it, i can't even delete files off of it.
My 64gb sd card is rendered worthless, it's driving me insane. Can somebody please help me before I rip my hair out?
sounds like your sd card is write protected....or its gone bad....check your sd manufaturer to see how to disable write protection....try that first....if you can install another card and see if you can add, delete, or modify files on that card....next insert card in question into your pc and see if you can do the same on it...if not you may just have a bad sd card

It's not a bad SD card. I had a android version on it and then when you install the new one, it ****ing puts your SD card on lock down.
Nothing can access it and the files on it before I installed the new android version work, I just cant put anything on it or take anything off.
ok...so you need to share previous andriod version...new version...how you took the update ota or flash....build version....kernel etc. Each rom has its own little quirks and requirements and you have not given any info for others to see what may be going on...what I'm hearing is that your sd worked before you took the update but does now work after the update...

I am pretty sure I just updated from stock to cyanogen
gonna have to be alot more specific....we can't read your phone...without the details no one can begin to help you

No matter what I put it, there is no write protection switch. It just keeps saying I need to turn it off or it's write protected.
I removed it from my phone, put it in a microSD card converter to SD. It is directly in my slot in a laptop. I downloaded programs to try to overwrite this and it still says write protected.
just a quick interjection...sd card write proection has been an issue for some time....especially sandisk cards....I had the same problem...could read not write...could not delete move or change any files on the card...all it said was write protected though I had never enabled this....bought a new card...copied the files from old card to pc (the only thing I could do with the card)...dumped those files onto the new card and reinserted....everything has worked fine since with no problems whatever. I will say that I did not buy another sandisk card.

I hope. I've been working this for a long time intermittently . Just give up every time after a few hours.
You could try this app to check the card. There are plenty of counterfeit sd cards out there.

I have been looking for the last week trying to locate instructions (assuming there are instructions) for swapping out an sd card in the G2. My phone is rooted. Has clockwork recovery, has the CyanongenMod 6.4 Rom.
Can someone give me a brief run down on this? Do I have to re-root and reinstall ROM for sd card swap?
OR, can someone please just post a link to the page (if there is one) that will describe the Rooted, ROM mod'ed, overclocked, and whatever..., HTC G2 SD card swap?
Thank you! This will be really appreciated! Mainly because I am a full time criminal justice student about to graduate with not much time to spend 50 hours a day looking for this anymore!
Sincerely,
Paul
Do you just want to use a different sd card in your phone?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
No. Or I guess, yes. Im bumping the gigs from the stock 8 to 32
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
mount the sd via flash reader or usb and copy all of it over to the new sd card then pop the new one in the phone and presto!
that simple really??? what about hidden files or roots????
Sorry I'm about to do the same thing and was wondering...
Any root and or system files are on your phone. You can swap sd cards freely. Just copy everything to your new on on a computer and your good togo.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Root and all that is done internally on the phone, the sd card just has things on it like application data, or pictures or music. So as long as you transfer everything from the old sd card to the new one, you will be good

Ok.
Another question in result of this answer, I already have everything backed up with titanium (I think that is what it is called) backup. Same with in clock work recovery. And now after all of these procedures, I copied the whole sd card top my hard drive. Can I put the new card into the phone and use the phone to format the new card so I can do away with a lot of junk that I would not necessarily know about.?Then copy the files I want back onto the new card?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Correction. When I day junk, I mean not transferring the un necessary junk from the old card to the me card. And just format thee new one with nothing on it so it will work inthe phone.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Really its an sd card just switch it out transfer any music or anything to the new one it don't need an entire thread
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
What you need to do, is copy all the files from the old card into a file on your pc somewhere, unless you have a desktop that has a card reader on it.
Take the old card out.
Put the new card in the phone, format it. (menu/settings/sdcard/format)
Then open the files and transfer them into the new card that is mounted in your phone through usb. Or if you have a card reader on your desktop just drop and drag to the new card.
My question is, what class of a card do you need to purchase?
Dunno. It is a class 4, though. I don't think a class 4 will be a bad choice, given the card is rated at 4 mb/s. Something like that. I would think the C4 would be a relevantly fast enough card.
I wanted to let y'all know, I just transfered all over to the new card. Sorry for a dumb thread. I really didn't think it would that simple. But I guess some things are!
Hey! So my 64gb SanDisk microsd card was working fine then the other day it decided to switch to read only, and nothing I do will fix it, windows refuses to format it, ubuntu says it did but the data remains untouched, nothing works! Any help?

Same issue here: did you update ROM to 4.3 version? I read that it could contain a setting within the platform.xml file that you find into system/etc/permission folder. See this
I tried it but with no success.
I hope you're luckier
Btw i sent it back to Amazon asking for refund (and they agreed). Bye

I warn you trying this setting. I tried this >>> Editing .XML file. I started getting severe force closes especially Google Frame Work Services. Even reverting did not help. Had to use my Nandroid Backup to go back.
4.3 is sucking so far for 64 GB External SD Card write support. Titanium Backup & Helium both apps can not do automatic scheduled Backups on External SD Card since 99% of the time they do not get Write Access. Only way to do an external SD Card backup is manually after rebooting the phone, even that is hit n miss.

I agree with you. 4.3 is still far from 64Gb SD Card support, and I know that editing this file can be dangerous, but I read that someone was able to restore his card and due to its cost was worth a try. During my tentative, this update didn't have effect (but at least I didn't get more troubles).
Same issue.
64GB SanDisk card from my Note 3 (search brought me here) became read only after 5 months.
I've ended up sending it under warranty back to SanDisk.
I'm glad I didn't loose anything as I've backed it up but still don't like the idea of returning something with a lot of my data and photos I can't delete.
may have found solution

I was having the very same problem. I finally went into the computer management, and was about to throw phone across room....when I tried to format one last time. This time I unchecked the quick format. It is taking longer, but seems to be working...I am keeping fingers crossed.
Full Format has finished and card is saved! Hope this helps anyone in the future.
Hello everyone! I have a problem with my 8gb adata microsd card. It won't format. I tried formatting it before, but wouldn't do anything, and the program I was using wasn't responding, so I just took it out(Bad idea, I know). Now it won't format or do anything, all it does is show up. It has some weird files inside the microSD that I can't delete/move/etc. Help please?
It might be toast. There are some specific programs, that will let you pull the data off a bad card. You may need to find one and save what you want. Then put it in a new sd card. I wouldn't trust that one, even if you did fix it.

card is like $6 at walmart ....my info pics etc are worth way more to me just piece of mind is worth more ...try to get what u want and garbage it
Not sure what program you tried to format it with.
Try this https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5220128/SDFormatterv3.0.zip
have you tried formatting from the phone? That's usually how I format my cards.
I agree, if you pulled the phone or card while trying to format on your PC, you probably messed the file tables. It's going to be hit and miss on recovering your information. I don't think you'll find a program on Android to do, but maybe on the PC. Look for the ones that do it for crashed HDD or post formatted. You may be get lucky if the information didn't get written over and it's just the tables that are bad.
Hi All
i have just purchased a 64gb microSDXC memory card driect from Amazon, to replace my 32gb card that was full, here is my problem, i have copied the contents of my old card onto my pc, put the new card into the phone and formatted it. then took it out and placed it into the pc, copied the files from the pc to the phone.
But when i put the new card in the phone and power it up, the phone starts up then i get the symbol of the sd card in the top left saying its checking it for errors, then the phone freezes up, loads of messages come up about things stopped working like settings, internet & other apps.
the phone then goes into a kind of reboot and then comes back on but then freezes again!
i have put the card into the pc and run check disk but no errors were found?
Please can someone help me with this, otherwise i wasted my money.
I am rooted and also running directory bind.
Thanks
Pete

Format once on PC choosing ExFAT option.. check if it fixes the problem..
Thanks I'll try in a bit, will report back, otherwise I'm going to ring Sandisk to see what they have to say, I've checked on their site and it says the card is compatible with the note 2

Hello, I have a completely factory phone that I have never rooted or flashed. My phone all of a sudden cannot read my sd card and says I have to format it, I've pulled the battery out and restarted it, I've taken the sd card out and put it in my computer as well and my computer says there is an error and the card needs to be formatted. I would just do that except for the fact that I have probably 200 pics on my sd card that I would like to get off first. Would anyone no how I could recover the pics on my sd card or repair it so I don't have to format it.
I would appreciate any help solving this problem.
Thanks
