Is there a way to dual boot 5.1.1? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to dual-boot this phone? Preferably between touchwiz and CM.
Thanks!

There is a "tool"/recovery replacement named MultiROM that allows you to run multiple ROMS. Unfortunately, the ROMS have to be able to use the same kernel. Several people have requested a kernel that would work with both TW and AOSP ROMS. One of our developers said that it would be too hard to do. I do remember using BootManager back on my OG Evo, or maybe my Evo 3D. I ran both Sense and AOSP ROMS at the time. That was probably in Gingerbread days, though. There were universal kernels back then, that worked on both AOSP and Sense. I suppose the fact that we can do so much more with our phones on Lollipop makes it that much harder to write a universal kernel. And, of course, TW does so much more for our phones than the early version of Sense did.
I haven't actually tried MultiROM yet. I think if I did, I would probably try different AOSP ROMS, just for fun. I would think SlimRemix or CMRemix, or even SlimLP along with the vanilla version of CM might give you some different experiences. I'd really like to try out the Plasma kernel, but it hasn't been updated for 5.1.1. Unfortunately, when I got my Note 4 on CL a week or 2 ago, it had already been updated to OG5.
If you do try MultiROM, please post and let us know how it works.

At this point...

Well, we have a bunch of roms for hour HERO, in one rom the camera works at 5mpx, in another at 3.
We've opengl working and not working.
In another rom we have Sense UI, in another we don't have it...
So, why don't you unify all those efforts and create a unique rom with
camera working
sense/non-sense (2 version of the same rom)
And all other stuff???
Is this idea so bad?
They are all based on different Kernals (the basis of the rom) so therefore they are built up differently leading to different things working and not working.
It may be possible to get everything working but certainly would nto be a quick and easy task.
Best thing to do is think of what you regularly use and pick whatever 2.1 rom suits your needs until we get a fully working 2.1 dump.
I think, at this point, i'll wait for a HTC official update, and i'll keep using Exit93 roms...
I second that.
As a fairly long time xda-user i often find it frustrating to find a good rom for my phone.
Just the other day i got my hero and this time there seems to be slightly fewer roms floating around but it's still pretty hard to find a suitable one.
I think alot of us have a good idea of what exactly we want and alot of roms have a bunch of stuff we really dont care about as much as the chef.
What i would really appreciate is a clean rom with a repository of optional components, i don't mind there being a chinese keyboard, but please make it optional.
If i could i would love to get in to the cooking game, i've thought about it several times over the last few years. Alas, i don't know where to start, at least not with Hero.
If anyone can point me to a good starting place i would love to give it a try and make the rom im talking about.
Cheers

i believe CKDroid is the one for you. it comes with a small kitchen (windows only) to enable you to customize the rom. it's quite stable too
also ... look here for a start to your cooking career.

this is wrong. all the 2.1 roms are based on the exact same kernel from the only leaked 2.1 rom we have. as soon as the sources are out a lot will change, but until then the kernel is one of the biggest limitations.

There is only one set of freely available source code for Android 2.1 and that is the AOSP version. Note that this is quite distinct from the kernel source code, and is license separately.
For the most part, the Sense-based 2.1 ROMs will be using precompiled elements taken from leaked HTC ROMs, though may have some AOSP elements too.
When HTC do finally release 2.1 for Hero, they must then make the kernel source code as per the terms of the GPL. However, HTC do not ever have to release the source code for their version of Android because the Apache Software Licence (ASL) that Google released Android under is not a copyleft license.

None of the current 2.1 ROMS is worth using, they're all just useful for experiments with Android 2.1 - no more than that.
I'm happy with MCR 3.1 so far, it's fast stable, working and relyable, nothing of that could be said of any 2.1 custom ROM so far. So please wait 2 or 3 more weeks until we finally get a real working 2.1 ROM from HTC.

Nexus One ROM?

Is it possible to run the Nexus One ROM on the Desire? I like to use the stock Android experience, and OpenDesire used to provide this but all of the tweaks from Cyanogen mod is changing that.
The simple answer is no. It has to be ported to use on the desire.
I like to think that the cm-mod changes are for the better, but you could eventually use an older version of opendesire, if you used to like it I prefer sense roms myself, but there is several different versions of the aosp compiled roms, have you tried all of them?
Thanks for the replies guys. Good to know.
I've only tried one or two AOSP ROM's - I'll keep trying Any suggestions?
Not really the only other option will probably be to start compiling your own rom for the desire trying to get the completely stock experience, but that requires some skills neither you nor i have i believe

[Q] Recommendation for ASOP or GPE ROM?

I've always flashed Sense ROMs but have always pondered flashing an ASOP or Google Edition ROM. I just really never use Zoe, so I'm thinking the camera fuctions won't be missed to badly. With that said, can anybody recommend a ROM to flash? I weigh stability over options, because I can always use Xposed to get most options that I want. Thanks for the feedback!

Each rom offers different things, best bet is to nandroid and try them one by one.
Most stable stock versions
bucks AOSP
Joelz GPE
Santod040 GPE
Santod040 GPE offers added tweaks on top of GPE
Santod040 Liquid offers tweaks on top of CM code
Flyhalf CM build is pretty good but sometimes when on nightlys things break.

I've never tried bucks, or heard of it actually, but I really liked CM 11 when I used it for a while. I've heard about it enough that I figured it would be one of the most stable non-stock roms and it seemed to mostly live up to the reputation, but I switched back to stock just for the sake of using the beats chip since it is closed source to sense and GPE based roms. If you can live without that, I'd go with CM because that's what I would be doing.

I would also recommend JoelZ. I just updated to his latest ROM and it's solid as a rock. I'm having 1 problem right now but it isn't related specifically to his ROM, and only occurs to select users for whatever reason.

I've flashed Liquid. That is an awesome ROM. Only problem is I stream music anytime I'm driving and the bluetooth skips. Seems to be a problem that affects some but not all users of the ROM. Other than that though, it looks like a great ROM.
I'm now trying to flash a GPE ROM. I've tried both of Santod's and Joelz and after I flash them I have no cell service. If I go to about phone, it shows baseband as unknown. I've never had that issue. I'm flashing with TWRP 2.7.1.1 and my radio version is 1.13.41.0421. What am I doing wrong here?

That's the current radio, but have you flashed the full kitkat firmware or were you on it prior to unlocking?
If you are on the latest m7vzw firmware, you should not have that type of issue.
You'll also wanna make sure you are wiping prior to flashing, if you aren't.
Not sure what else to suggest, as data and calls are all working fine on tiKtaK.

[Q] Now What? Lollipop or Kitkat? (ART or Xposed?)

Ok, so I got a G3 (UK SIM-free). Comes with KK 4.4.2. I've Rooted, installed recovery (with modem/EFS support and backed up everything) and customised with Xposed modules. New lollipop ROM has been released but I'm not sure I can do the things I need or want to do with Xposed on KK with the Lollipop custom ROMs currently available, like Gravitybox's expanded desktop options to remove dock or DS battery saver's tasty battery life gains..
Trouble is most of the custom ROMs that look good Android Now or Chupa Chups etc. only list Lollipop ROMs now and I can't find the last KK versions of these custom ROMs for download.
So what do I do? Do I stick with my customised 4.4.2? Do I go for a custom Lollipop ROM and risk losing the look and feel I like? Does any one know where a list of the last (most stable?) 4.4.4 KK versions of the good custom ROMs would be?
KK + Xposed for the win. Don't look back.
LP is not impressive enough for me to give up my Xposed. Running 45-50 modules (yes, 45-50) I refuse to give up my Xposed.

There aren't actually any good custom 4.4.x roms for G3. They all were prematurely terminated bc of 5.0 release.
Well, most Xposed modifications aren't doable without it. Try to live without it for a week, see what it's like.

SlimKat is pretty much as good as KK is going to get for these phones. Not supported or updated anymore, but the best all-around ROM for the G3's wanting 4.4.x
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe CM 11 is still supported / updated via nightlies (even if fewer and farther between updates now with CM 12 up and running)? Unless things have changed in the past couple of weeks...

It is, but AFAIK there are no official builds for G3, so you'll have to compile it yourself. Plus, the device layer (HAL, etc) is incomplete, so there will be bugs.

I never said that lolipop roms are good, i said that all G3 rom makers forgot about 4.4 and moved on to buggy future. Current 5.0 roms suck, they drain battery twice as fast, they lag, they have inferior memory management, etc...
We have to wait for good stock-based customs. At least until 20L and apktool 2.0 RC4 release. After that, we will have a good base and will be able to decompile and recompile any LG apk, which would allow for some serious mods.
Exposed until L is ironed out. The G3 camera is excellent. Xcam for me.
Don't leave home without it.
Long story short, custom ROM'S never be good as official ESPECIALLY for LG G3, you just need to understand that, for some people it's ok but for some don't. All you need is a root and MAYBE a custom kernel. PEACE.
I found lollipop is faster especially with chrome, yes, I gave up xposed but worth it
Sorry, I have been pretty dumb. So LG went from 4.4.2 to 5.0 with the G3 and there are no customised stock 4.4.4 ROMs? That being the case, I might as well stay on 4.4.2, get to debloating and sort out the annoying boot animation and sound.
Any prefered/recommended method for debloating? Anything else I should look into doing to my stock 4.4.2 ROM?

Custom ROM with LG Customizations

I just go the LG G3 and I unlocked and rooted it. Now I'm looking for a custom rom. I see there are quite a few 5.0 roms but since there is no official source, all these ROMS are pure Android and I am looking for one which has LG customization (as I really like them). I would like to know what's currently the "best" (and stable rom) for D851?

None of the stock KK Roms have been updated in awhile. I think Devs are waiting on LP to be released. Once you flash it, you'll see that there's not too much to update anyways. No reason to update Roms if there's nothing new to add.

Yep, I've actually ran both. IMO, Skydragon Rom just runs a little smoother and also with the SR Remix Rom, I was having all sorts of issues with being able to edit/delete files using any kind of File Explorer app. You'll notice in the thread for that Rom, that a lot of people were having that issue. With Skydragon Rom, I don't have that issue at all so that's also a main reason that I'm on Skydragon.
They're both pretty comparable though so pretty much just personal preference. I also like the fact that the Dev for Skydragon builds his own kernels too.

Thanks for the info. I will check out the Skydragon ROM.
Installed SkyDragon earlier today and so far everything seems to be working great. Though I wouldn't have mind at least some customization because after the first boot for few minutes I was confused if the rom was actually installed it not.
Scribbled on LG G3.
