Hi,
I have few questions about Temasek's CM12.1 Build V.
Now i have the latest rom released on 5th of August. I am struggling to find a way to use Camera FV-5 because i have no control over exposure (it just stays and does not take pictures) and Cinema FV-5 works just fantastic . On my Galaxy s4 with stock room both apps work perfectly. I bought this app because I have been told it is great for taking pictures and yes on my S4 i like them so far even thought i am not a great photographer.
I s this a known issue or I am missing something. BTW i know CM has problems with camera

just a quickie. is there a way to change the default camera used for apps in paranoid android.
i stupidly decided to try and install Galaxy S2 - 4.2 Photosphere and Gallery FULLY WORKING from xda onto the phone.
since doing it video will not record from rear camera. front is fine just not rear. apps that use their own camera are fine like vine etc but i was wanting to try the new instagram video but this abviously calls the defualt camera as it displays the same behaviour. front records but rear camera wont.
i want to restore back to stock camera without hopefully haveing to reinstall rom and losing all my stuff
seems to be ALL roms based on 4.2.1 or 4.2.2
i have tried 6 roms now and all do the same thing with the rear camera. if i install a rom based on 4.1.2 everything goes back to normal.
for now the best rom with everything working is the latest neatrom but its a memory hog. i have 100mb left of ram i am having to constantly clear ram to keep it running smooth.
does anyone know of a good custom rom based on 4.2.2 or 4.2.1 that makes use of the old 4.1.2 camera?
just going to try wanamlite as thats based on 4.1.2
i just want my instagram video fix lol

What rom are you using?
so far i have tried
1. paranoid android 3.60 unofficial
2. paranoid android 3.40 official
3. XenonHD Stable-10.0 (23.06.13)
4. [4.2.2] Avatar ROM for Samsung Galaxy SII (I9100) - Updated [Jun 23, 2013] (works on rear camera but goes green but the recorded footage shows as normal)
5. [JB 4.2.2][AOKP/CM10.1/PA] ReVolt JB I9100 [Ver.4.3]
i have tried several other but have deleted the files so cant remember them.
the only success i have 100% is with neatrom which works perfect but the memory useage is just silly. i have less than 100mb ram remaining every 2 mins. avatar works as an output but when viewing its green
Finaly Finaly Finaly yay
dont know if its a kernel thing or what but i just flashed
[ROM][RESURRECTION REMIX][JB 4.2.2] [23.06.13] Resurrection Remix ROM V4.0.2 NEW SEASON
out of pure desperation and it works it did update my kernel though.
so if theres any n00bs out there like me who just want some instagram fun with latest android then go for [RESURRECTION REMIX].
its a good rom as well

the 4.2 camera with photosphere is buggy and video doesnt work. I posted in themes in apps the new 4.3 camera from s4 google edition and its working perfectly even with recording, im on aosp based carbon rom
i downloaded ics camera etc that was a good workaround but some apps use the defualt camera. this is where i struggle. and i spoke too soon
[ROM][RESURRECTION REMIX][JB 4.2.2] [23.06.13] Resurrection Remix ROM V4.0.2 NEW SEASON
has crashed on me 3 times in last hour so not that good lol. may try and nick the camera from it.
Thank you
Thank you for the link to 4.3 camera. it works great and sorts the instagram bug out.
unfortunately i have just found out that 4.2.2 doesnt support vine rofl. so back to square one
Hey guys,
I am the Android engineer responsible for the video playback and recording components on the Vine for Android app. We noticed that there is a bug on a rooted 4.2.2 ROM (mostly S2, prob CM related) that it did not implement one of the camera method (specifically, onPreviewFrame, the data returns null when using image buffering) that we are relying on to work properly. Just want to let you guys know what the problem is.
Best,

Actually great camera app. I'm using its initial release since the OnePlusOne sales start. But I noticed some slight blur in picture quality as compared to stock CM camera. Maybe I was shaking hands ..? All in all, good update here. Maybe there's a better quality with this release. Thanks... ?
Interesting UI, reminds me of CM9 a bit... 3.0 to 4.0 had the best detail graphics in my opinion.
Looking at moving from a G3 to a G4 and wondered, for those that are running a cm or aosp based ROM, what's the quality of the pictures like vs those taken with a stock ROM?
Thanks
My opinion
Well i used diffrent custom ROMs (CM, Blisspop,) and stock ROM, and by my experience i think stock rom produces better pictures, i dont know why or how or if stock really produces better pictures, but thats just my opinion. would like to hear experiences from more veteran CM based rom users.
Normally cm/aosp camera are not as great as stock.
My last phone(LG Optimus G) had the same issue but when Devs started to implement the stock drivers from camera into cm/aosp then the quality was almost the same as stock.
Don't know how devs are working here because i have the phone only for 2 weeks but for what i see the biggest "problem" is the way to unlock the bootloader.
It seems LG just made a step back with this phone in terms of development.

Stock camera is definitely better - you could use other camera apps like "Camera FV-5" or "A Better Camera" for better results with CM/AOSP based roms.

- Can't use shutter speeds longer than 0.5s with 3rd party cameras even on stock firmware. That is quite a drop from the 30s stock can do.
- Some examples i saw showed that auto in low light does not work well at all. Max ISO which is something that never happens in stock auto.
- How do they get access to use the colour sensor & laser auto focus.
- what resolution is CM burst mode (9MP stock) & CM panorama (can be in excess of 100MP with stock) etc.
- night shot which is a mode automatically used in low light with the rear camera that employs image averaging is lost. Night shot mode is used much more often with the front camera. So selfies are not going to be as crisp.
- unclear whether unlocking the boot loader causes any permanent loss to the above.
I've not even seen full resolution examples from cm camera just reduced resolutions. So cannot tell if sharpness of details in the distance is retained or not.
Early days, we'll have to see how it goes. There's a lot of testing that remains to be done to even begin to answer the OP's question.
If you want CM that bad get a device that runs it out of the box. Wiley Fox swift is one example.
Thanks for this post, I was wonderful the same question.
What is the current situation, for exemple with snap camera designed for G4?
Thanks to anyone for an update answer!
Snap Camera does a great Job, since codeworxx startet to work on it. Besides the ui, that is not as individual as LG's, almost every feature from the stock cam is working (except high speed/slomo filming I guess). Picture quality is getting pretty close to the stock camera . I use it as a daily driver and I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Hi, I was lurking for a new camera app on xda to make up for the Huawei Camera software which provides a superb quality when taking photos, and I ended up encountering the Snapdragon Camera 2.2 for the Alcatel Idol 3.3.
Acording to the dev the camera apk should work on every ROM based on CM.
Since I'm on CM14.1 I gave it a shot and surprisingly it successfully installed and its working quite well.
The thing is, I can't decide which one is better, Snap Camera or Snapdragon Camera.
I was hoping if you guys could help me
(the first one I used stock snap camera which comes with CM14.1 and the second one I used Snapdragon Camera)
Note - the xda app might compress the photos a little bit, so expect some low quality between them.

Here are some photos :
cool. maybe there's a way to extract he camera apk feom EMUI? its a really good app. and as a bit of advice, some links to the threads for snapdragon camera would be great . i'll test them too. the 2nd pic looks better imo, so i think snapdragon camera is better than the stock cm one. i'm using google camera (preinstalled with stock gapps) and i'll do some photos too when i get home
edit: the snapdragon camera is a bit better. not by much. the google camera app has a pinkish tint and is brighter, whilst the snapdragon camera has more natural colours but it is less bright, as seen in the OP.

It is possible to port the apk to CM or whatever ROM you're using, but without the drivers from huawei we can't get the maximum performance from the camera.
I also think that Snapdragon Camera looks a bit better, but Snap camera for me I think it's better to use on dark environments haha.
Edited the post with the link for the snapdragon camera.
Thanks.
I don't have any kind of experience regarding Android extraction of any kind, but if we took libs and camera apk and all the dependencies for it, make it a flashable zip with correct permissions straight to /system, would it work?
It's too bad that we have Nougat running great with mostly no issues (location via wifi is not working, but activating GPS will locate you in 2 seconds, some users also have the echo call bug), and the camera is not optimised properly. I'm pretty sure on stock ROM all other camera apps gave more or less the same performance as the stock one, so i doubt there is a lot to do with the app itself, more with the drivers and libraries (as you have pointed out).
Huawei stock cam app i think its pretty well
it would be great if it could be ported
ok this is my first post here, so tell me if i posted somwhere wrong..
but my question is is there any Oreo rom, doesn't matter if it's 8.0 or 8.1.
that has a working camera, and that it can record..
You can record on all Oreo roms, but you need like footej camera or open camera apps. The stock will work when LOS devs fix it.
quality of images can vary depending on the app and the used setting!
open camera works nice, there is aswell a htc camera port here - that works:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/themes-apps/4-camera-apps-lg-g3-t3610027
Crdroid has fixed camera so now everything works perfectly.
Got D855TR; I've tried almost all of the 8.1 and 8.0 roms available here, unfortunately none of them gets my back camera or flash working (front camera works)... It is not hardware related because if I go back to stock MM 6.0 , they both work flawlessly... I am hoping devs will resolve these soon but seems like many people are having camera issues.. If anyone got any suggestions or ideas, I'd really appreciate it
