note cannot send text or make phone calls - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

I have an iphone 5s att phone. I just brought the note 5. I put the iPhone 5s sim into the note 5. I can't send or receive text. I can make and receive calls for about 5 minutes. after that I can only make emergency calls. THe 4g lte signals disappear. IS the sim card of the iPhone 5s not compatibly with the Note 5? Or do I need to do a custom APN for it to work?
Thanks in advance,

[Q] Using the GN on AT&T

Hi!
Two questions about the GN.
-I currently own an iPhone 4S(on ATT) and I have an unlimited data plan that goes along with it. Will I be able to use this data plan with the GN?
-Will I be able to pop the sim from the 4S(using an adapter) and use the GN right away or will I have problems?
Thanks in advance for the help!
I am sure someone with far more experience than I will post soon but here is what I know. Make sure you get a SGN that is able to work on the AT&T GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA Network.
If you have the GSM unlocked version of the GNex you can just pop the 4s sim card right in without an adapter. I tried using an adapter and it got stuck in the GNex sim card slot. Took me a while to get it out so now I just use my micro sim card with the GNex. I have the unlimited data plan for iPhone too and I have great speeds faster than the iPhone. Go for it.

Make sure you setup the correct APNs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1149523.html
I just switched from the iPhone 4 to GN. Here are some pointers I believe are correct:
- Get an unlocked GSM GNEX
- Get a SIM card adapter (though I have heard of people not using one. and warned of getting SIM stuck in phone...BTW DO NOT put SIM adapter in phone w/o SIM--it will get stuck).
- ATT has you provisioned to HSPA with the iPhone 4, but to have them provision you to to HSPA+ you need to provide them with a new IMEI #. Get someone w a HSPA+ phone (like the iPhone 4s) and ask for their IMEI#. Then call ATT and state you want to add this phone and be provisioned for HSPA+ and keep you unlimited plan. The IMEI # is just there to open the option...using GN's # will not show then the HSPA option. Also, have them reset the voicemail as it get removed when they modify the plan (but I do not use it anymore).
- Look at the APNs on the board. I am using one I found on here noted as "phone" But the link has a few as well. Enter them and do speed tests to see if they work. I got at most over 5MBPS on mine...but it fluxuates.
- For Voicemail, I opted for Google Voice and did not activate ATTs. There is no visual voicemail, but GV sents text or emails. I think I like it better.
Hope this helps. I was hesitate at first, but the transition was smoother than I thought! But be warned, you will be searching for the home button AND anyone sending texts via iMessnger will be sending it to dead space...they need to re-identify you as an SMS.

Install the Google Voice app and you'll get visual voicemail. It even (poorly) transcribes voicemail.
Before you move from the 4S to GN, make sure you turn off iMessage on your 4S before doing anything. I forgot to do this and I wasn't getting texts from my iPhone buddies since my phone number was still being recognized as an iOS 5 user.

Hi! Thank you so much for the help. However, there is one part that I do not understand. (see bold) I already own the 4S so shouldnt I be provisioned to HSPA+ already or am I misunderstanding the whole situation
Thanks again for the help!
Yes you will have HSPA+ already if you have the iPhone 4s. The guy above thought you had an iPhone 4. Should work fine.

If you're switching from the iPhone 4S do you need to add or change any of the apns or will the standard one work fine?
Not too sure....I would assume they would work fine. I have been "Testing" a few APN settings on here and noticed for some I get better speed rates than others. I think the generic cingular APN that pops up does not support HSPA+ speeds.

Verizon note 4 on straight talk

Hey guys I'd like to use my retail note 4 on Verizon until paid off then was thinking of using strict talk Verizon Sim. Has anyone does this does it get the same lte speeds? Is the service the same? Can I use Internet and mms properly?

Hello,
Question.. I have a verizon note 2 with straight talk service and I just got a verizon note 4. Can't I just put the sim card from the note 2 into the note 4, use the same apn, and get it to work? Or do I still need to get a new verizon straight talk sim? I got this sim a long time ago so I don't remember if it was a verizon straight talk sim but I assumed it was because it works in my Verizon note 2.

Depends if the SIM fits and what service the SIM is for. If your on the straight talk verizon you need to call in and transfer service to the new phone. If the SIM fits and is for anything other the verizon you'll need to add the apn.
For whatever reason the apn is blocked on mine as well. I'm guessing straight talk updated my apn when I called and gave them my imei number to transfer my account.
Only thing I can recommend is to call straight talk

Ok i found my old activation kit with all the Sim cards in it for at&t and tmobile.. the Sim card I was using was straight talk tmobile which works fine in my Verizon note 2. But when I put it in my Verizon note 4 I get nothing.. no signal bars nothing.. I don't think it's the apn because I put the sim card back in my note 2 and deleted the apn and I still at least got signal bars just no Internet of course. So i got my number switched to the at&t sim card and tried it and got the same results. Works in my note 2 but nothing works in the note 4. No signal at all. Do you think downgrading to kitkat would get it working? I noticed others who said they were using Verizon note 4 with a at&t straight talk sim card was on 4.4
There's a thread here about tmobile. Works for some and not for others. Some tricks to get it working in the thread as well. Again worked for some not for others.
If coverage is good I'd buy a straight talk verizon SIM for it on eBay(where I got mine) and transfer your account to that. You'll have to buy a 6.99 activation from straight talk when you call. Your number won't change either.

Straight talk verizon sim and switching phones

Well I started out with a Note 3 broke it got another Note 3 and now upgraded to the Note 4 all verizon models all using the same straight talk verizon sim.
Service works on the note 4 BUT am limited to 3G. After talking to a few techs they finally told me I need a new sim card. They don't allow switching phones and keeping a single sim.
They are sending a new sim free of charge so at least that's a good thing. Just that I would put this info out there in case anyone else does that same as me and think you can just move the sim card and be good to go.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I switch my straight talk sim card between 3 different phones and never have a problem. One is my ZTE Lever (Straight talk phone), The second is motorola E2 (which is a verizon prepaid phone), and finally my galaxy note 4 ( which is a verizon phone). Everything works great with no problems at all anytime I switch. Maybe it's your apn settings.

Well on a stock 6.0.1 verizon note 4. I can't touch apn settings. Second I have only the imei of my first note 3 associated with my current sim card. I have service but not LTE. My wife has my second note 3 and I associated the imei with her sim and she gets 4g LTE no issue where I would only get 3g when I used it.
Straight talk won't fix it without a new sim. Which isn't a big deal. Order 2 sim kits from walmart for 2 bucks and will have them in a few days.

My s5 was like that. No other sim would work the 4g. That went for the sim in my s5 wouldn't work other phones 4g either (including other s5s). Now I have my sim from 3 note 4s ago and it works fine(broke one, got a bad one and now have a new one). I can also swap sim cards with my son's s4 and it works just fine. Guess some phones are just weird...

Yeah. I have issues getting this note 4 rooted so I can unlock the bootloader. I don't have a computer and only can borrow for short times which doesn't help.
This note 4 also locked me out when I put the new sim in. I never setup a pin number so couldn't unlock it and it totally erased everything even my SD card which I put back in after finished setup again. Very strange but at least I didn't lose anything. Always doing backups. Seriously want root now so I can do full restore.

My ST VZW works flawlessly after coming from an m7
Verizon can be touchy. Even when I wasn't using StraightTalk, but was on Verizon proper, I've had to replace my SIM to get 4G. Apparently they can get screwed up pretty easily. That being said, at least on VZ proper you should be able to swap SIM cards between phones easily.
Well both my wife's note 3 and my note 4 have 4g again on ST vzw. Which considering where we live is a minor miracle by itself. Went on a small drive 3 phones all vzw service. IPhone lost signal a lot, S5 a few times. My note 4 just once but it was a deep valley with lots of power lines crossing the road. Vzw service is the only service either from vzw or ST. No others even remotely work in this area. Living in the lakes region of New Hampshire in the middle of mountains might be nice views but is terrible for radio waves.

FD / Dual sim owners - what's it like?

Hey guys, I see some of you have the FD variant - That's dual-sim isn't it?
I'm thinking of getting one, but what is it like to use dual sim as opposed to lugging two phones? Today I'm carrying a Note4 and Note3 with me... Worth springing the extra $$ or stick with a regular F + my old Note 4?
Happy to hear about your experience!
Still waiting for my FD ...
But the experience with my N920CD do not give me another choice than a DUOS system.
You really don't need to carry a second phone with you, all you need is in one system.
With the new Note 7 and the private folder, you can even have the same App installed twice, so you have two Facebook, WhatsApp and whatever with different accounts in one device ...
So you really can split business and private without carrying two devices.
I've had mine a few days and I'm very happy with it. I'm expecting to get a business phone in the near future and I'm hoping that instead I can just use this phone. I don't want to carry 2 phones. I also travel a fair bit and buy local SIMs when I arrive, so this will allow me to continue to receive texts from my regular phone when I'm traveling.
I don't think I'll ever get a single SIM phone again unless someone, somewhere comes up with a truly global phone plan.
I agree, i have the n920cd duos note 5 and its the only way to go. Work sim in one and personal in the other, I just brought the note 7 duos because i could not go back to having two devices. You can set separate notification and ringtones per sim and in use its dead easy (i.e in text message just select which sim to send from) although you can do this and have defaults for calls data etc.
Still 2G only for second SIM?
Does *#2263# (band selection) work in your dialer?
Or *#197328630#? (basic service mode)

I.love the idea of the DUOS but it's missing a band for ATT and doesn't have wifi calling or HD Voice, so i have read.

Neither code works.
For what it's worth, both SIMs are capable of using 3G/LTE, but only one at a time can use it, the other is stuck on 2G.

not sure which phones you were using before.
But since Galaxy S2, Note 2, Note 3 and beyond I've been able to browse the net, and Talk on the phone at the same time, as I needed to look up information while I was on the phone with customer service asking me for account information to verify my Identity, etc, etc...
So I'm pretty sure you can go Online, and Talk on the phone at the same time.
This even work back in the first Galaxy 1, Nexus S but those phones were so slow...

I just returned and S7 Edge with sprint service, I was replacing my note 3. The S7 Edge cannot do data and voice at the same time. say you have waze on and a phone call comes in. now you are talking on the phone and yo want to alert drivers of a policeman...guess what S7 no cant do. So I am trying to replaced my note but non of the current samsung phones ON SPRINT NETWORK can do that. The reason why the NOTE 3 can do it its because of the number of antennas it has in it hence the ability to use data and voice at the same time.
Until Sprint goes to VoLTe please keep your eyes on the road....geez.

It is not your phone's fault. Your network does not support calls and data at the same time.
Even Note 4 can use LTE data and VoLTE calls at the same time. Mine does.

Yes and no. SAMSUNG removed the CDMA antenna from the phone (note 3) has one. They knew or should had known that by doing that the phones on sprint network will not be able to do call and data simultaneously . The note 3 has the two antennas and that is why I am able to do that at this very moment on the sprint network. So basically they are selling you a phone with less capabilities than the replacement and they call it an upgrade go figure. They ahould had waited untill the networks catch up. On a second note veriOn supports VOLTE but at an extra cost. So the consumer pays premium for a phone upgrade and then pays again to have the same service as I do now with a note 3. We are really getting upgraded aren't we?

Unfortunately all new phones have one antenna which increases battery life but doesn't allow call/internet simultaneously. Sprint will be moving to voLTE once they get their LTE everywhere they can. Most people don't need this capability and there are workarounds using google voice to make calls. It doesn't bother me to not have since i don't usually use minutes. I can always look up whatever I need when I'm free again.
