Error 132 Signature error while installing RUU? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm stuck in boot loop after applying the latest Stagefright update. My phone is Dev Ed S-ON and unlocked bootloader. I can access the hboot and recovery. I tried applying the latest RUU. I got the 155 error, after reading here, I have locked the bootloader and now at the hboot it says Relocked. I have tried several times applying the RUU and now I get the error 170 about USB connection. I have tried different cables including a brand new one high quality cable and different ports. I have tried applying rom.zip using those commands fastboot oem rebootRUU htc_fastboot flash zip rom.zip, it goes well and then fails. I have tried after the fresh windows installation. Now I get Error 132 Signature Error. I thought about using a Nandroid backup and went and got an SD card. I tried flashing stock recovery and twrp and both failed due to signature error. I'm using the right rom/RUU for my CID and MID.
I've been stuck for days and it's the only phone I have. Any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this 132 Error?

Since you have PC/USB connection .. have you try this :
1. Rename the RUU.zip to 0P6BIMG.zip
2. Put the 0P6BIMG.zip on your microSD (I believe you have one)
3. Boot to bootloader/hboot - it will ask you to update, volume up to accept
4. let it do its stuff
5. once finish it ask to reboot, then reboot
6. remove the file from microSD
7. done
You have S-On device, you need to relock bootloader to do this.

RUU.zip? Do you mean rom.zip -found in the RUU.exe? Just put it on the SD card root and open the hboot and it'll ask me to update automatically? I have relocked the bootloader already

Yes.. rom.zip
Rename it and put on microSD (external_sd) not internal storage.

Dude, this is an M8 forum. M8 firmware won't work with the Desire, and 0P6BIMG.zip/SD card won't work with it either.

[SOLVED] No Boot, no ADB, no Recovery, only fastboot :( How to create a Goldcard now?

I'm stuck at a nearly 99% brick I think...
I've got an AMOLED Desire from T-Mobile Germany (still branded), with HBOOT 0.80.0000, rooted via Unrevoked and still S-ON.
The phone gets stuck during the boot process when the provider-splashscreen (or HTC-Logo) is shown at the beginning. Only pulling out the battery will shut the phone down.
The same happens when I try to get into Recovery via HBOOT. The only option is to pull the battery.
If I connect the phone via USB and enter Fastboot it is recognized by the computer with the command "fastboot devices".
I can't use ADB, because I can't access the recovery.
I downloaded the right RUU for my provider/amoled/hboot 0.80.0000 Desire (RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed) and extracted the ROM.zip from the installer. I renamed the file to PB99IMG.zip and manually moved it to the SDcard using my computer.
But, when I enter HBOOT the file is recognized and extracted, but then it fails ...due to an "incorrect CID".
The same happens if I manually execute the RUU....exe under Windows with my phone plugged in via USB. (It's error code 131 in the flash program of the RUU....exe).
A very helpful user (cargo) of a german Android forum (www.android-hilfe.de - link to his posting) assumed that my HBOOT is not correctly displayed and I might have a "newer" one than 0.80.0000
This leaves me quite without any option than to flash HTC RUU 2.29.405.5, which brings HBOOT 0.93.0001...(but I may be able to downgrade again.)
But this flash process is only possible if I have a Goldcard, which I actually don't have at the moment
Is there any way to create a Goldcard for my device in my actual position (only fastboot working, no boot to run the system, no adb working, no recovery access)?
Every howto explaining the goldcard crating process requires either working adb or even a running system for apps like "goldcard helper" or being able to use "terminal emulator"
I would be very very thankful for every bit of help
Maybe there is some way
Thanks in advance guys!
I believe that goldcards are specific to the card and not the phone(read it somewere on here) so it should be possible to make one without using your phone.

As far as I know you need the phone for your goldcard. At least it was said in the tutorial I was following a few months back. You need to connect the phone to get the serial number (through ADB shell) which you will need to hex-reverse and put it on your SD card image.
To be honest, they are more sophisticated methods now (as I read) creating a goldcard, but since unrEVOked, i do not follow that part.
And by the way, why don't you flash the HTC RUU 2.29.405.5? 0.93 HBOOT can be downgraded. But with the latest tools you can S-Off, root & whatever with that HBOOT, too.
I just tried flashing the HTC RUU 2.29.405.5 with the PB99IMG-method.
But I get an error "CID incorrect"
I treid to execute the HTC RUU.exe and I get again error code 131...which means something like "user-ID error"
But I could grab a screenshot of the actual "version" of the RUU...or what is this?
Thanks guys
CID incorrect? Your phone is unbranded or branded? Because I found this:
ERROR [294] : INVALID VENDOR ID
Every device contains a short string that identifies the operator who sold it. Because the same device is sold by different operators, this prevents users from flashing a T-Mobile ROM to a device that was sold by Orange, for example. You probably need to Install a HardSPL or CID Unlock your device.

I recommend to find a RUU for your device (e.g Vodafone, T-mobile etc.)
Also:
ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the wrong RUU to do the update. The RUU will check if the Model ID and Language ID are compatible with the Android phone. Make sure you use the correct RUU to update.

If it's saying wrong CID then it's branded, simple as that
1. Boot your phone in fastboot
2. Run the ruu that matches your phone.
You need a T-mobile branded ruu.
You can look here for one that matches. http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
I think you can try an UK one, because it is multilingual.
If it is giving you the same errors, then you picked a wrong version.

If you are rooted, then boot into the bootloader and flash a custom rom. Then create a gold card.

Yes, try that too, if you can.
Also use a NOA2SD Rom if you dont have ext partition. Or create one on your PC (if you want to use an A2SD ROM).
How can I flash a Rom using the bootloader?
Simply rename the zipped Image of a custom Rom into "PB99IMG.zip", put in on the SDcard and boot into HBOOT?
Thank you

Yes, if you rooted with unrEVOked. Boot in to recovery (clockworkMOD/AmonRa) wipe all data and flash a CUSTOM rom.
You don't have to rename it, it can be anything as soon as it is .zip

Uhm...flashing a custom rom in general is no problem...but i can't access Recvoery
as described in the initial post of the thread only the bootloader (HBOOT) and fastboot are working.

Yeah, sorry, my bad.
Well you can try to falsh it via PB99IMG.zip, but i won't think it work.
your only hope is finding a working RUU. (at least seems to me, if you can access only fastboot).
Hi all, have same trouble with flashing via PB99IMG, but in my case, the device normally loads the firmware and returned to fastbut. When you try to go to recovery device hangs on the logo. Фfter removing the battery and re-attempt to restart the device, it begins to vibrate 7 times and then freezes on the logo. What do these vibration?
PB99IMG.zip will work as you don't need recovery. Just put it on the root of your SD card and boot into HBOOT. It'll find the file and flash it
did renaming rom to pb99img nd flash via hboot work for you?
i have a similar problem, rather same prob, only fastboot available
To let this thread maintain usefullness for future readers:
The solution was to take a goldcard from a friend and flash the right (matching hboot, provider and version) RUU, by using the PB99IMG method.
By this the phone will be set back to it's delivery state! This will include the Rom, all data in the NAND storage the recovery and everything else, which got modified like getting root access or S-OFF etc.
Troubles were caused by USB-Brick or an error on my old ext3 partition or maybe even corrupt data in my Titanium file-backup I restored a few days before the crash :/
I can't clearly say what is the main cause...maybe it was a combination of all.
If you don't have got any chance of getting another goldcard (yes the goldcard creation does NOT depend on the devices! It can be created with ANY android phone ) you are really screwed.
My advice: Always keep a spare microSD card, equipped with it's goldcard image around!
Because I was not able to find any method to echo the CID (Id of the SDcard) in fastboot.
Greetings
And good luck to all of you having comparable issues

HBOOT PD98IMG Issue [HLP]

HELP ME Please! I've returned my DHD to stock rom. Now when i power on the phone is blocked at HTC green logo. HBOOT starts. If i push a PD98IMG.zip in sd, the bootloader load it, then write "checking PD98IMG.zip". After that it returns to bootloader with the classic menu:
fastboot
recovery
factoryreset
simlock
image crc
The phone not start and the HBOOT is Ace PVT Ship S-ON 0.85.007
Help me please
to flash à rom you need to do it in recovery, not in bootloader,
in bootloader select recovery,
in recovery select "install zip from sd" and Choose your rom zip in sd card
Perform a Factory Reset.

It sounds like your PD98IMG is not signed by HTC. It will need to be an officially signed PD98IMG to install on an S-ON device.

My PD98IMG.zip is from downgrade thread...it's ok! Any idea?
Do you have created a Goldcard ? Because for downgrading, you have to create it.
If so,download again PD98IMG.zip,and copy to SD,it will load the ROM again.Turn off your phone, and boot into Recovery (down volume + Power button),and you will see how is reading your PD98IMG.zip,and once recognized,it ask you if you want to load the image.Confirm that, wait, and thats it.
Hope this helps.
If you didnt create a Goldcard, you have to create with another Desire HD with your MicroSD card inside. For me it was working this method.
GOOD LUCK.

Are you getting any messages? Like "Model ID Incorrect" or "Version Older" after "checking" is done?
If you get Model ID Incorrect" then you need a gold card. If you get the older version message, then you must temp root and change the misc partition version ID (using the misc_version tool here)
If you get no errors, then it's probably a signature problem with the zip.
Do you have Eng s-off?
If not, this might help

I put on SD card ROM from ruu file and named it as PB99IMG.zip and desire still doesn't recognize that file and it says it doesnt recognize other files. when I come to the point when it should ask if I want to update my system the options won't come up.
When there's no zip file on Sd card I can't use my volume buttons to control hboot..but after a while they work.
Thanks for help
What ruu did you use? Try the 2.3 one.
I tried 2.3 ruu. extracted the rom and put on sd card.. it didn't work... I can't boot android
Did you get the RUU from HTCDEV? You got to dig into the site. Do not use any other source. If the PB99IMG.zip does not work for some reason try the HTC recommended method of running the RUU from PC with the phone in fastboot mode(Back + Power).
yes from htcdev. But the phone gets into the same mode. I doesn't matter if I press back+power or just power.
In hboot screen, select fastboot. Then run the ruu. Is it that hard?
Fastboot actually looks like hboot...

YOU MUST TO GO IN RECOVERY and MOUNT the SD CARD and COPY you rom to folder on your sd card and after this to install the rom from the SD CARD! after this flash boot.img and erase cache you can go again in recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache again for any case
Download VIPERX-4.0.0 it is good an take the boot.img inside from ROM archive and place your boot.img inside your fastboot folder I think in your case must to be C:\fastboot\.
I think you don't flash the boot.img. The file must be in fastboot folder and use command fastboot flash boot boot.img

This error can cause:
1. phones HBOOT version is to low - but from previous post you said that is 1.72.00 so more likely is
2.Roms that you wont to flash do not have string in updater-script (it is in every rom.zip that you wont to flash-find it and modified it)
Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425559 and this from post number 53 and 54 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411995&page=6 to find out what and how to modified
You can edit needed file - updater-script in /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script (this is the path for updater-script in every rom.zip) with notpad or other text editor software

[Q] TWRP Help! Unable to open zip, no OS installed!

Hi guys, I was changing Roms and accidentally hit wipe internal storage in TWRP.
I've tried to flash a Sinless ROM, an insert coin ROM and also looked on htcdev website to get an RUU to try and put it back to stock, yet every time I try and install a zip file through twrp it says "unable to open zip file".
I've also taken a shot at trying to add sideload the rom on there, no progress is made and eventually fails again... I've got no backups saved or anything...
Is there anything else I can try to make my phone work again? I was possibly thinking trying to get my brother to do a backup on his M8, put his SD in my phone, then restore from his back up, will this work?
Is there anything else I can try in the mean time? Really don't know what to do next...
Many thanks in advance guys
Oli
Hi,
In my ignorance, i think the failed flashes could be caused by two things:
1- the recovery you are using is not updated. Try to flash the lastest TWRP recovery or change recovery version.
2- corrupted ROM zips. Maybe there are problems while downloading the ROMS or while you copy them to your external sd card. Try to download them on another computer AND using a different browser. And maybe put the zips on a different SD card if you can. But, MOST IMPORTANT thing, check the MD5 after you've finished to download the zips.
About the nandroid backup... I think it could work BUT be sure that your brother M8 has the same brand, firmware and Android version of your M8 (before you wiped everything).
However, about this last part w8 maybe for somone else more expert the me w

Get into fastboot and type in fastboot: fastboot erase cache
Than reflash your recovery with with fastboot: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Than make sure that your downloaded zip isn't corrupted by trying to unzip it. If its successful, place the rom into the SD card and insert it into your M8 and flash from there.
Set up everything and voila, all done!

My apologies, didn't notice your reply. If his is s-on, he can try his brother's nandroid and if it fails, nothing will happen so its possible for him to restore his brother's nandroid if they are based on the same firmware
I unlocked my boot loader by htcdev, phone is s-on though.
I've downloaded each file twice, and also downloaded the insertcoin rom on another computer, made no difference. I'm using twrp 2.7.0.2 I believe...
Where would I get a new recovery.img file from? Sorry to sound stupid but I'm not sure and don't wanna mess my phone up more. Also when you download the file do you have to have it in the same directory as adb.exe, so when you run the adb command it will get it from that directory?

Just tried doing this fastboot method, I typed in adb devices to see if the phone was recognised, didn't show up, I typed in fastboot erase cache and it still did so. I then pushed the latest TWRP recovery.img file on to the phone, it's now running the latest version of TWRP, but still won't let me flash anything, still keeps saying unable to open zip...

Have you made sure the insertcoin rom that you have downloaded is compatible with your device? Your device needs to be running the lastest firmware as all the roms are updated to 4.4.4
As for the recivery, the lastest is 2.8.1.0
Here's the link to the recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2717932

Make sure you have HTC drivers installed. if you don't, download HTC Sync and uninstall HTC Sync leaving the drivers in your computer than type in: adb devices.
Boot into fastboot and flash the recovery: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img ( or you can just directly drag the "recovery.img" into cmd and press enter)
Load the rom into a external SD card and insert the SD card into your device and flash the rom from there
Also, do you check MD5 after downloading the ROM????
My device was running 4.4.4 prior to this happening. I did download the latest recovery and push it to the phone, it did work, but upon trying to flash a new rom, it still says failed.
The phone is being detected in adb, when it's in recovery it says so, sideload it says so, just not fast boot?

Forgive me for beimg stupid but how do I check the md5?

http://www.guidingtech.com/9800/what-is-md5-checksum-how-to-verify-it/
Compare it with the MD5 given in the ROM topic
I had the same problem where I couldn't flash anything and it wouldn't mount my storage. I had to adb flash RUU though that only works for s-off users
So if the md5 was to be fine and matched up, what would you try next?
Thanks
Oli
Try unzipping the .zip file on your pc with 7zip and then re-zipping it and try to flash again. I've also had some .zip files that can't be read and it wouldn't even open on the pc itself(giving errors) until I unzipped it with 7zip and re-zipped it.

Also a fail to unzip will point towards a bad download.
Hi guys.
So I tried a new SD card, matched up the md5s, tried flashing a new recovery.img file (which worked, I'm running the latest twrp now), unzipped and rezipped using 7zip, yet when I try and flash it still fails! I've tried flashing on the phone and sideloading it, both still fail.
Sideload failure says:
"installing '/external_sd/sideload.zip'
checking for md5 file
skipping md5 check:no md5 found" - that's where it gives up...
Phone flash failure says exactly the same except another line after sayi ping "error flashing zip '/external_sd/ROM.zip"
I really don't know what to try anymore... I've tried so much and I just can't see anything working now
Thanks for your help so far guys

Did you try flashing from Internal memory instead of sdcard?
No I havent. How can I get the rom to the internal memory mate? the phone has no OS on, so it's stuck in recovery or bootloader, how can I transfer the file to internal rather than the sd card?
Twrp 2.8.1.0 has MTP working.

Since your device only boots into the bootloader menu, all you'll have to do is highlight the Recovery option using the Volume Down button and select it with the Power button. If you do not see the Recovery option, just select Bootloader with the Power button and it should pop up.
Once in TWRP, tap the Advanced option and select ADB Sideload.
From there, you will be given the option to Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvik Cache partitions, so go ahead and do so by checking the boxes and Swipe to Start Sideload. After it starts, you will be ready to start your ROM flash.
With your device connected to your computer and your ROM file already on your desktop, you are ready to flash.
Kill ADB using the adb kill-server command, then restart it with adb usb.
Make sure your computer can identify your device with the adb devices command.
Flash your ROM with adb sideload Desktop/ROM.zip (be sure to change "desktop" to "downloads" or where ever your ROM is stored, and change "ROM.zip" to the name of your ROM file).
Sorry mate I didn't understand your previous post but I tried this method already, tried flashing Roms using sideload and they still fail, I've posted the error message in one of my previous posts if that helps?
