Iam a owner of a Samsung Note 4 ... Iam new born here... and my problem its I don't want to root ( on this time ) the cell....so I need to know if exist any way to : read and write a External SdCard.. because I cant do this...
please any ??
I don't understand why you can't. Lollipop allows it (you have to choose sd card directory for the app in question), at least on an app-by-app basis.

Well for example the app called: e-sword.. that cant access or run if the modules its on a external SdCard..so I need to put all the modules in internal memory..
Atach my system and the nag screen of e-sword
But they are another apps like "Pixlr" its a photo editors and cant save in the ExtSdCard... I came from S4 and on that phone dont have any problems

Oy. Sorry, I haven't even explored this dilemma, since I hadn't encountered it with any of my apps (yet). I tested out Pixlr, and you're right, it won't saved to the sd card (from the app). Not sure why. But I could still move the pictures with ES File Explorer or the built-in My Files. As for e-sword I can't find it in the English Play Store. So I couldn't test it out. Wish I could be of some help, but it'll take one of the smarter guys to field this question.

This feature is available on lollipop but the app developer needs to implement it, most are using the old method of read/write which only works on 4.3 or earlier, if you can use an alternative until the app gets updated

Hi
I'm sorry if someone already asked this (tried searching but didn't find the exact same question).
Is it possible to set a default storage location for all apps downliads/pictures? I know how to do it in camera and some apps have a setting option for this. But I've uninstalled many apps (wallpapers etc) simply because I'm too frustrated with transferring files manually.
For example, my instagram saves pictures to device memory and it really bothers me...
Thanks a lot!

Here's a link to the one I use. It applies on boot. Works great. Haven't had a single issue....

Thanks so much for the link. However, I'm not trying to move apps to sd card because I don't have that many apps. And I don't really want to root my device.
I want to set all app downloads to sd card. Some apps have a setting for that but some don't.
Thanks anyway!

You can use directory bind, but sorry still you needs root to use it.

I have Samsung Galaxy Note 1 and a serious problem along with it. My app automatically ported from my phone memory to sd card. While porting sometimes it becomes semi transparent and i dont understmd why does that happen. Its a rooted phone.

Check app like after focus, google etc they are transparent in nature. I dont understnd y does that happen itself.

You are using some app and have configured it to sdcard .
Check which app you have installed that has that ability

I dont understand i havent done anything like that.

I am rooted is that because of that?
Sent from my GT-N7000
Maybe unintentionally. Tom toolbox or some other app that has the ability to do so.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I m pretty sure i dont have any of them. Does rooting grants that permission.
Sent from my GT-N7000
You need root and the app have asked for root access but the actual selection has been done by hand.
Can you list your root apps?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
What is root apps? How can i do that?
Sent from my GT-N7000
Apps that need root to work.
Such apps are titanium backup
Triangle away. Rom manager. Rom toolbox.
Csc changer.
Mobile Odin
Seeder.
Like that
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
None of those i have this super user su does that do that
Sent from my GT-N7000
App like Addsfree requires root permission but dont think so that may affect this problem.

Even app keeps disappearing from my home screen. God!

The app icons look like that for apps that are on the SD Card and the SD card is removed or unmounted. Apps that store themselves in /.asec (I think, whichever hidden folder is the one that is used for secure apps) also show that icon when the SD card is removed.

How you expect support For Note1 on Note2 forum?
Anyway, some application are by default moves to Sd card in Note1. some ICS have added newer launcher that have this bug(if i remember correctly LR6/Q or near to it). application which are on Sd card, becomes semitransparent(still usable) and if you keep short cut of this application to a folder on desktop, it gets erase short cut after rebooting.
Just move back your application to Phone memory and it should work.
you may find it in setting - application manager - app on Sd card (or something, i left using ICS and Note1, 4 month back)
and you will find option to move to phone

As i said move application to phone and it will be fine. Or if you want to keep that on SD card only then update to latest ROM, which is bug free.
Thankx man will try the same.

Hello, can anyone explain to me how Directory Bind app actually works? In fact, in the app, I have no idea of why the default source directory is always the external SD card (instead of the internal SD by logic). Also, have anyone here actually get this app work on Note 2 since all the videos of demonstration of the app I saw online were done on those very old Gingerbread phones.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It works fine on the note 2. There is a really good tutorial in the note2 general section somewhere. Thats what I used. I'd probably recommend folder mount though as that will work on 4.2 and 4.3 whereas directory bind doesn't if I remember correctly
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes..directory bind did not work on 4.3. You can use folder mount if you're on 4.3.

Nope, it works just fine on 4.1.2. It maps folder on EXT SD to INT SD. So source is a folder on EXT SD and when you map it, OS sees it as INTernal... pretty simple.

I downloaded it but even when I selected the bind, it basically just moved everything from the source folder to the destination folder and emptied the source folder. However, the new files that suppose to go to the selected folder on the extsd also went to the int SD. Therefore, there is still something in the SD. Why?

It basically tricked your system to make it looks like the files in in internal sd, where they are actually in external sd.
Try unbind it, you can see that the folder in internal sd is actually empty.

That means that it the internal SD holds none of the files in the folder?

And the developer of this kind of app should win a Nobel Prize for Android Development if there is any; they should make one next year though...

However, do I always need to reserve about 2GB for the internal SD in order for the system to run those big apps since every time I bind the directory, it will think that 2GB is occupied?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
And will the program only mount the apps only when I launched it ? Since if those apps were always mount go the folder, the system would always think that they are in the internal SD and occupy space.

Nope. You can check your internal sd storage space in setting/storage..it will stay the same when you bind or unbind.
I've noticed that there is a flashable zip for other devices (gs5, tegra note 7...) that allows access to the sd card through 3rd party apps (ex: astro file manager) offering a way around the new "sandboxing" in kitkat. Does anyone know of one that exists or is coming?
There is a SD card fix zip around here somewhere..it allows you to read/write to the card if that's what you meant..

In Google play, search for JRummy SD KitKat Fixer....
To really fix the problem, you need root and a kernel with write protection eliminated. Then you can use sd fix app to enable it

Anyone tried shifting files from phone memory to memory card? (from your phone) It wouldn't happen. Why is that?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Requires root - Nextapp SD Fix
Root!? just to copy and paste files from our phone itself? That's really stupid don't you think?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
It's the way Android is going. There are plenty of articles around explaining why this is happening. Similarly, root is being made more difficult for developers to implement in the next version of Android.
I think it's a pain, but there's no point in getting upset. It's a bit like having a moan because winter comes around once every year.
I had the same problem even with root using root explorer. Had to use ESexplorer and it worked fine.
I believe you can move many files to SD without root if you use settings.
Settings, Storage, Phone Storage, make more space, then select the folders/files and move to sd card.
Did that. Now I'm having problems shifting things stuff with in my memory card. Through es file explorer.
