Phone is sending weird messages. - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was going though my messages here and I saw a message that my phone sent. See the attachment. I know it wasn't a pocket text because the phone had been sitting on the table by me with the screen off at the time the message was sent. Any ideas?

I got one of those too... had no clue what it was.....
Googled DCB_ASSOCIATION and found on the Verizon site that it's (probably) "Direct Carrier Billing".
Sounds right, I bought an app on google play through my verizon account. That seems pretty likely.

Missing SMS / text messages

Hello,
I've suspected for a while(and confirmed with friends) that relatively often, my sms don't get to them. It's shown as sent in my phone and in the sms threads, but they simply don't recieve them.
So I tested it out with another phone, sending 5 sms' to the other phone and it only recieved the first one. the other 4 never got there... Now could this be some sort of anti spam causing it? - I did send them in rapid succession. However when I send messages from the OTHER phone to me, regardless of how quick, I get them all. And we're on the same network/provider so that doesn't seem to be the problem.
During regular use, even SMS' sent with lots of time inbetween gets lost occassionally.
I've never had this problems with my old phone so does anyone else have a clue why this is happening? As you can imagine, it's frustrating thinking someone has gotten a message but it never reached there.
Thank you.
Sounds like this problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522535

Hey thanks for the reply, I saw that but doubt that's the same problem.. I usually list most of my numbers with +, and it shows the message is "sent". If it was the same problem as the link above, I guess it would b epossible to reproduce it everytime but mine is seemingly more random.
The specific number I tested it on was a number WITHOUT the +areacode, and even that produced 1/5 messages recieved by the other party.
Any other ideas?
I had that problem before with my touchPro. All I did was hard reset the phone, active sync my contacts and I sent out text messages. Everything worked fine after that.

Also checked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4016381&postcount=31 ? see if the number is still correct in windows mobile?
Also try to sent from the windows interface a couple of times (in the textmessage touchflo tab touch the new sms icon in the above right corner.) see if it does better then.

God you know what, you're right. Thanks. I did look through the WM sent folder before but not far down enough..
It does seem to drop the + after the first SMS then not reapply the + until I get a reply.
Annoyingly my phone still tells me "Message Sent" instead of invalid number though, so there's no way to tell if it sent the message without going to check the sent folder I assume?
Doesn't seem like there's a fix or even a confirmed cause for this yet?
I'm having a strange reversed problem: all SMS I send are regularly delivered, but I "miss" many incoming ones. the strage thing is that it happens (AFAIK) only with my girlfriend's ones!! nobody else still complained about me not anwering, so that should mean I received and answered all other mesages.
Please note that we have the same mobile operator (Vodafone Italy)
today she tried her SIM with her bro's phone, and guess what, the problem is still here BUT the difference is in lost messages: 4 out of five lost with her Moto v9, 2 out of 6 lost with her bro's nokia. that sounds really weird to me.
where do you think the problem might be? mine/her SIM, or phone?
I'll call Vodafone Italy later, but their assistance and support is really awful, they do not even know what they are talking about, and reply with the same pre-confectioned anwers every time.

As far as on the phone, I don't think you can. If you want to see where your texts have been doing/sent to whom, call up sprint, and request a sopena [can't spell the word for my life], but its a log of your texts, and they'll mail it to you.

It may have been from like a backup app.
As far as I know, I don't know a way to double back to see where it was actually sent to.
You can install handcent, open the app, click menu, then try delivery report; it shows the message, and if you tap it, it'll show you the time and to the person/number.

[Q] Messages get cut short

I sent a message today and it said that it went to 2 pages which is like 200 characters, but my girlfriend said she only got part of it which i thought was weird, so i tried sending myself the same message and it gets cut off and only shows the last couple words (which are from the 2nd page) but doesnt show any of the first page. So im not sure if this is happening to anyone else but if you could test it to see if its not just me, if anyone knows why this is happening please let me know :/
My long messages get split, but I never see anything on my phone that says so. It sounds like you're using a non-stock messaging program and it's not working right.

Text mesages are limited to 160 characters. It's kinda like a Tweet. The phone displays it as one big message in the SMS app. So it's a failing on Sprint's part to not deliver the messages. It has happened to me as well. I'll get the 2nd part first etc.
No I'm using the stock messaging app but the tghing is I send a message maybe 156 characters long but my girlfriend satys she doesn't get it or anythinng. So I texted myself by typing in my phone number into the recipient field and I send my self the exact same message and get nothing back so I. Made a message that was 2 pages long and sent it but only got the 2nd part back and sometimes get nothing back. I believe I found the reason for all of it though, a week ago we received an airave from sprint because the service at our house was horrible and I believe the airave is causing the problems to my phhone. I went the the store and sent myself that 2 page long message from earlier and I got both parts and I resent the messages to my girlfriend and she got them perfectly with nothing missing. But when I got home it stopped working. So I believe there is something wrong with the airave device I received. Also I tested the messaging stuff with my moms phone (we have the same epic touch 4g) and got the exact same results as I did.
I've been having the same issue as stated by OP since owning the phone and I use the stock app. I'm thinking I need to go back to using the handcent app that I had on my hero since there was an option to split and send after 160
Sent from my SSGSIIE4GTuvwxyz!.....Should I touch my nose or walk a straight line now?

I actually tried it on handcent and it failed to send aswell so it's either the phone, service, or this airave thing I received from sprint

Since it works without the airave, I'm leaning toward it as the problem.

[Q] Stock Messaging App... What do these mean??

On the stock touch wiz messaging app I get these type of alerts/indicators/notifiers?? but am unaware of what they mean. The messages go through fine, but I get this small "X" right above the date on only some messages.
Does anyone else experience this? Has this already been discussed somewhere else?
I've attached a picture with arrows pointing at what I'm talking about.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
From what I know that means you have messages in those threads that failed to send.
Or rather, your phone THINKS the message did not send. I'm having this issue a lot lately with Sprint and this phone. In my area in fact a lot of people on the sprint network, including those using boost mobile, are having issues. The phone says the messages failed to send, but they actually do.
I have alot of text messages that fail as well. My wife's phone doesn't have this problem.

happens in low coverage areas. happens to me all the time at home. phone will say sending failed, but still sends, and people still reply. i used to keep hitting the exclamation point and it would keep trying to resend, even though it really went thru lol

That's their Google Talk status (you probably have their gmail addy in their contact info). The grey dot with an X means they are offline. If they're online, it would be a green dot; if they were connected and away, it would be a yellow dot with clock hands in it.
Thanks everyone. What's funny is that I dont have gmail addresses assigned to those contacts. Will look into it though, thanks again.
I talked to sprint and they are aware of this issue they are working to find a permanent fix, now this is what I was told. They also say turning the phone off and back on forces update into the phone because it reset with the network when you turn it off.
Just a bug probably.

That might actually be true. The next day after making the original post they were suddenly gone. I have not seen them since. It must be a bug they have to work out.
Thank you.
I had about 6 of those notifiers come up today and I immediately turned off my phone and re-started and they were all magically gone. Been texting since and haven't seen anymore.
Re-starting does indeed work as a temporary fix I suppose. Sprint should hurry up with an update already though.

[Q] Strange Texting Problem with ZenWatch

Wow, I must be the first one with a Zen Watch problem... or at least the first one with a Zen Watch... lucky me. Also, first time poster, so I hope I'm doing this right!
The issue I have occurs when I try to send a text message from my watch. When I do, I use voice to select a recipient as I would with Android Wear on any other device. While it looks like the message is sent from my phone (i.e it shows up in my message history with the selected recipient), the person never actually receives it. When I click on "Message Info" in the conversation history, it looks like the watch is adding "01" to the beginning of the phone number. The only thing I can think of is that this additional "Country Code" is screwing up the text.
I'm using a brand new S5, and it occurs in the stock messaging app, the Verizon messaging app, and Google Hang Outs. Any one have any ideas?

I tried a couple of times and it worked for me. Sprint HTC One Max Stock. Stock messaging app. Not using hangouts. That probably doesn't help much but at least lets you know it 'can' work.
I think your theories about country codes, etc may be right, but I would think you'd have the same issue if you do it via 'Ok Google' from the phone itself?

Hey Faxman,
Thanks for the response! Actually, you're right. I just tried it, and the same thing occurs if I try to send a voice text directly through Google Now on my phone. The message shows up in my conversation history, and looks like a normal text from my end. But it is never received at the destination. I still think that my country code analysis is the root of the issue, but I have no idea how to change it without attempting a 3rd party message app. I don't have a problem doing that inherently, but I would rather fix the problem then bandaid it
Any ideas from the massess would be awesome!
