[Q] Kernel extraction from a rom?

I have searched everywhere googling. I cant find a good tutorial on how to extract a kernel from a ROM and create my own flashable .zip for my current ROM. I need to be able to do this on a Windows machine. Any help would be appreciated.
Really? Not a single Dev out there willing to help someone learning? I think I understand why stuff gets "posted in the wrong place", to draw more attention.
ill help you out just take the boot.img of the rom that has the kernel you want...and done

That's it? No resigning or anything? Replace boot.img with the one I want and reflash the Rom?
Edit: I should clarify more I guess. If possible, I'd like to make it a flashable. Zip

Thats a little harder if you just want a flashable.zip you need to extract the zimage or something like that from the boot.img with the android kitchen but the simple way is just taking the boot.img and putting it into the rom and reflashing

[Q] Is there any tutorial to make our own custom rom for ARC..

Hai There....
After I search around on google I found some tutorials to make a custom rom, ofcourse there is rom kitchen but I like to know how I can make a rom for the Arc??
And is there anyway to to decompile tft ??? because I like to know it too..
Thanks everybody...
+1
Yeah, Ive been meaning to ask this question as well!
Its just crazy having to scour the entire XDA just to find a few skins for systemUI or SEHOME, but a tuts will do a lot more good in the long run.
Will somebody help?
Make nand backup and copy system.img and data.img and boot.img to kitchen folder..start kitchen and start to work.
With this method you can also modify stock rom.
How to get cygwin and kitchen work..use search and you find good tutorials many.
Happy working and give us report about progress.
Cheers

Sony fones have the boot partition hidden. So no you can't grab it off fone. You can use the files. Look for iridaki's boot IMG/ ramdisk thread. That explains it. In lots of detail.

Did you notice that your phone did asmall update the big 1? That was e b 01
Sent from my SCH-I400 using Tapatalk
I believe that it gets downloaded to the /cache partition, and it is usually some random filename. I'm pretty sure if you get logcat while it's downloading, it'll tell you at least the URL it's pulling the file from, and possibly even the save location. Maybe Trailblazer will be able to provide some more detailed info though.

Ok. I assume verizon will push the update to the same phone, twice. I know it isn't an issue on GSM, but I'm not sure about CDMA, with the way it's set up. If they do, I'll revert tomorrow afternoon and see if I can find it to pull it.
Trailblazer, if you read this, before then, Something a little more comprehensive would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have some n00b questions that I would really appreciate some help on...
1. Are these files also known as the "radio" and "kernel."?
EB01 = radio?
EC09 - kernel?
2. Do I have to rename them both to "update.zip" before I place them on my sdcard?
3. When I flash them from CWM recovery, do I select "install update.zip" or "install zip from sd card"?
4. Would it be a better idea for me to use an odin package (EC09 odexed)?
5. I already flashed to a build called "EC07_clean." Do I need to go back to a stock DL17 before I flash EB01+EC09, or can I just proceed from EC07?
Thank you to anyone who takes time to help me on these. I appreciate it!

1. Not really. I'm not the person to explain that, I'm sure Tx or one of the other, more experienced regulars could explain it better. EB01 only serves to fix OTA issues and prepare the phone for EC09. As EC09 is being flashed, the radio and kernel are patched/updated from DL17.
2. No. Leave them named how they are. Just be sure you know which one is which so you can flash them in the correct order. EB01, then EC09.
3. Choose "Install zip from sd card" and then navigate to where they are. Putting them on the root of the sd card makes it easier to find them.
4. You don't have to. I honestly find CWM to be easier as no PC required. Once again, one of the other regulars may have a better answer here.
5. Going back to stock DL17 and then flashing EB01/EC09 is the only way, I think. Going from EC07 to EC09 probably won't work.

I have flashed AT&T touchwiz based roms before without issues. Im not sure if the same could be done with AOSP. I would say try it, but i dont want to be help accountable if your device implodes.
I just went ahead and just changed the update script. Flashed it and its working awesome so far. Guess mods can close this thread.

Open the rom zip navigate through Meta-INF>Com>Google>Android>then open up updater-script file. Change D2Att to D2Tmo. Done. Easier to do on a computer but possible to use with Rom Toolbox Pro.

I had unzip the roms and zip them back but after that recovery wont flash em. Is it because we need to zip them with notepad++?
By the way I have a similar thread and nobody seems to care to help on flashing that rom to tmobile. Would be nice if you help us do so too!

By recovery won't flash it do you mean it gives you a error and aborts? If so that usually means their is a error somewhere in the updater script

I do everything straight from my phone using ROM toolbox app. I just advised to use a PC so that you would not need to extract the Rom and just go straight to editing the update script file, but it can be done from our phones.
Really not that hard. Whatever ROM you have. The .zip file needs to be extracted then follow my steps one page back. Then use ROM toolbox to compress the extracted folders back to a zip then flash done.
Maybe I can make a picture guide but only if there is demand for it not going to waste my time if not.

So I can flash this rom with no changes and then I can do the changes with rom tool box! I understand about wasting your time. but If you make a good thread on how to do this and ask a mod to make it to sticky so people will have Ideas on how to flash a rom from att and letting people know that it really works. We have one like that for the S2 tmobile and skyrocket

No make the changes before flashing the rom. I guess ill start taking screenshots on how to flash the AT&T AOKP 4.2.1 Rom! Give me a few hours im at work.
Edit
scratch that Ktoonz AOKP ROM can be flashed without changing any thing to the files.
Thank you bro. Thats what we are here for to help each other lol. By the way Is that JellyBam after you changed the files. Have you ran into any bugs? How is the call quality and do you have echo?
just thought id share that i done exactly what g1master said and it worked flawlessly. all i had to do was change the d2att in the first lines to d2tmo and it worked fine. i used notepad++ to make the changed btw
Ok this is what I did. Unzip with winrar and did the steps from the op with notepad++ zip back with winrar and now that im trying to flash I get this
