I was thinking of buying one of those red cables... If it is micro USB it should fit. Thinking these are cheap Chinese cables. Maybe it has a faulty connector?
I may try a different one like in my attached picture.
S4 mini doesn't support MHL.
Oh... OK. Well that's cleared that up. ?
Looks like im gonna use these cables on my future Note 3 or S5 ?

The s4mini does support mhl but only with a few cables your best go would be an original adapter from Samsung.

Hmm in my mind, no MHL support means any MHL cables (including Samsung's) is considered useless trash isn't it? Also, there isn't any videos or articles talking abt "S4 Mini on TV" and stuff like dat

I always thought it was compatible because of lines I found in the build.prop
#
# System prop for Tvout/HDMI
#
persist.sys.camera.transform=0
persist.sys.camera.connect=0
persist.sys.videomode=0
ro.hdmi.enable=true
But maybe because stock OS for the mini is cannibalised from its big brother S4 it could just be left over crap... I'm gonna bet it's just not going to work. Shame...

Hi guys,
I'm interested to know if there's a cable that can do everything that the smart dock does as I don't like the fact I can't use the smart dock in landscape mode.
I want to connect the Note 2 to a screen via HDMI, keep it charged/charging and have a female USB port so I can connect a hub/PS3 controller/Memory stick etc.
Also, I've read online that I may need to root to get all this functionality working?
Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm new to the Android community, just finished using BlackBerry.
Thanks
That's the dream. For now an non existant one...

Thanks
Title says it all. I am planning to buy a MHL cable but I realise that S2 and S3 uses different cables. I know S3 can't use S2's.
But can S2 use S3's?
Anyone? Can help?
Have buy 2 cable for my two SII and my SI and not work SII and SI, ROM CM10.1 both phone

MHL won't work on CM ROMs, its part of Touchwiz for Samsung devices that's why I run Shostock3, a very modified and smooth version of stock 4.1.2.
I'm also curious if the S3 MHL cable will work. I'll ask my friend to try out his with my phone this weekend.

I wouldn't recommend you to buy it
Because the s2 will output in low resolution I will recommend you to upgrade to s3 or something to enjoy it

S1 doesn't support MHL it's tv out is done via the earphone jack to RCA jacks.
My MHL cable (one of the ones that is simply micro usb to hdmi) works for both the S2 and S3 but my screen is MHL certified and doesn't require an additional power source where as my old cable needed power plus the mhl but I aint tested that on the S3. According to wiki though it needs a Samsung specific cable which is weird as it works on my mhl screen.
I have a MHL hdmi adapter and it works great with everything but netflix. I really want to use it for netflix but the video looks horrible on the TV. Again everything else out of the phone looks great. Games, movies, web browser. Just for some reason netflix wont output correctly. Any ideas on how to make this work? Thanks.
I have the same problem

it's just the Netflix app. Other devices suffer from this issue as well. I've seen a video where the Galaxy S3 did it as well.
I have a ASUS Infinity Pad (TF700T) which is running Android 4.1.1 too, and Netflix doesn't do it. The big difference between it and the GN2 it uses a microHDMI instead of MHL.
Same problem here with both the smart dock and the samsung mhl cable.
Netflix does NOT have this problem on the evo lte which uses mhl*.
* Regular standard 5 pin usb mhl not this retarded non standard proprietary special 9 pin samsung thing they somehow get to call mhl even though it's a completely different spec.

Sorry misremembered. You're right 11 pin.
A standard 5 pin mhl cable does not work on the note2.

Yeah I looked it up just in case and yeah they use a different pin setting but turns out better for us since we can use the features of the smart dock

So, i want to buy the official mhl to hdmi adapter for galaxy s4 which has a product number : ET-H10FAUWEGWW
Will this work with the galaxy s3 that i want to buy? If yes will it work with any tv?(assuming of course it has hdmi port)
It has to be a MHL enabled TV. At least that's what I've read. I actually bought one of those cables and tested it on my HDTV and it wouldn't show anything at all. I tested on both my Sprint Galaxy S3 and my Nexus 7 FHD.

Could u give me the link where u read it?
The Samsung Galaxy S3 uses MHL
The Google Nexus 7 FHD uses SlimPort
These are two different standards and the cable is not interchangeable.

Unfortunately I'm a new user so I have a few more posts before I can post a link in a reply. But if you go to best buys website and search MHL you will find what I have read. I think I included a screenshot in this reply.
Just because it says it on bestbuys website doesn't make it real. The MHL standard is designed to convert to regular HDMI. Any HDMI TV should work fine with it.
No offense to anyone. But I'm going to take the word of Best Buy's website unless, you have proof besides your say so.

If it says it's for any Samsung Galaxy product it's worth a shot. I don't know anything about MHL really. But the cord I have doesn't work and that's what I'm going off of. And the best buy website. Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience.

The other thing to note is are you running a custom rom. I think the mhl drivers are in the touchwiz frameworks.

There is no such thing as a MHL enabled TV. MHL works on anything HDMI ready. The only thing is if you are running a AOSP based rom, it will not work, right now i only works on TouchWiz.
My MHL adapter works flawlessly on my 2010 Aquos.

Actually, there is such a thing, but it's not that important.
An MHL-compatible TV will supply power (5V/500mA in 1.0, 900mA in 2.0. and 2A in 3.0) to the adapter and charge the phone.
A non-MHL-compatible TV won't do that and you'll have to connect your own charger, but it will work fine otherwise.

So if the tv has an hdmi port and i have a power supply, i should have no problem it seems...
If the only difference is the USB ports are more powerful then I don't see how that has anything to do with MHL.
I have successfully tried my MHL cable on many TVs and I've always used it's own power adapter plugged into the wall.
I have heard there are crappy MHL adapters that do not work though.

Correct. an MHL TV just means you don't need to have a charger on hand, have a free outlet, have a long enough micro USB cable to get to that outlet, etc. etc.
So I've been using Jovy XTREMEPERIA S4 rom forever and just bought an hdmi adapter. When I plug it in the "connected to hdmi" message doesn't even show up. Anyone else using his rom have this issue?
You might want to try asking in the ROMS original thread.

Did you get a cheap one off e Bay or the samsung official 2.0 mhl adapter with the hologram on the box? There are fakes out there

I have the 2.0 real one. It works on my wife's note 3. And I have the original one that worked on my s3. I haven't tested them yet on any other roms . That's my next step. Thanks.
You may have already checked but it is an 11-pin adapter right? The 7-pins don't work on the GS4.
