Hey folks,
I've been wanting to get a galaxy note II for Christmas! Fortunately for me, I had a relative use their upgrade to get the Note II and trade me for my iPhone 5 (kind bored of iOS) but it is a AT&T version.... I need the T-Mobile version lol
I'm new to the Android Community and had some questions for you folks.
What steps do I need to take to setup my new phone?
1. Charge phone to 100% before use
2. Unlock the phone to T-mobile using the method posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982)
3. Use new phone?
4. Possible root/new rom to remove bloatware? (Can anyone recommend a stable rom that doesn't lose any features of the original stock rom without bloatware? It would be a plus to be able to increase battery life/make the phone faster)
5. ??? missing any steps?
I also was wondering if anyone who used the AT&T version on T-mobile receive HSPA speeds (without the 1900mhz refarm or a radio flash-does this even exist yet?) or is pure edge until they redo the towers (been on edge with the iphone 5 and its getting annoying lol)?
Additionally, does anyone have the correct APN to use with the AT&T note 2 for the t-mobile network (should be the same as the iphone apn correct)?
I did search for some threads regarding this but I was hoping for a more comprehensive answer
Thanks in advance folks!
bump anyone?
Go ahead and use the unlocking method you linked. CleanROM is a pretty good debloat rom with options to install a lot of the removed apps.
I just solved some huge battery drain issues I was having on all 8 devices in my house. My wifi network was putting out a lot of useless traffic causing all of my devices to wake up frequently. My note 2 had 100% cpu wake time in 10 hours with 1 minute of screen time.
So I changed several settings on my router and pcs on the network.
set up static ip
disable upnp
disabled file sharing + media sharing on all computers + dlna devices.
Suddenly the wlan_rx_wake wake locks I saw in better battery stats went from 90% uptime to less than 10%.
However, my nexus 7 and our gs3 running touchwiz were still not deep sleeping properly. The nexus 7 was getting a gtalk_async_conn wake lock which didn't go away till I formatted the internal storage, and the gs3 was getting location service wake locks because the stock touchwiz clock/weather widget was checking location way too often.
AT&T Note 2 on T-mobile 3G/4G?

I am having similar questions. Mostly, can I get 3G/4G from t-mobile network on my AT&T Note 2 (SGH-I317), or am I stuck on EDGE only? I get 3G once in a while, but not reliably or consistently. mostly on EDGE, so how am I getting HSDPA/HSPAP/UMTS 20% of the time? Were you able to get any answer to your questions?
As for unlocking, if you call AT&T they will give you the unlock code if you terminate early and pay the penalty. another method with different degree of success is to insist you are traveling abroad and you need to unlock the phone.
I really wish I could get even 3G reliably and consistently on my unlocked AT&T Note 2.
Also, would I lose my unlock (unlocked w code from AT&T) if I root my phone and put bloatware-less ROM on it?
hope im posting it on the correct section.
Anyways, I've been offered by my carrier a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE version. I have th Samsung Galaxy Note 2 3g version now.
All I have to do is renew my contract for 24 months and also I wont have to pay more for LTE, im already on Unlimited Data on my Note 2, I just have to change my phone to a LTE enabled phone to get LTE.
Question is, is it worth the upgrade now? Or wait a few months for the Note 3 to come out?
Wait.
Really, are you always thinking "this isn't downloading fast enough?"
Locking yourself in for 24 months is nuts.
note3 ofc

Here's the thing..
the fastest speed I got from my Note 2 3G is 5mbps
But I've seen people here with LTE go up to 20mbps and more...
Also, I think locking for 24 months is no problem with me. Since I've been using the same carrier for more than 10 years now
And unfortunately, where I live, we cannot retain the same mobile number if we change carriers, so unless that happens Im stuck with the same carrier.

What are you ever doing on your phone where 5mbs isn't fast enough?
I had a S3 and went to a Note 2 LTE. Have I ever noticed any difference apart from running wanky speedtest? No.
If you really need that speed, sure, get it. But it sounds like you're just seeing the bigger number and thinking you're missing out. You're really not.
If you're so vain you need to show off fast speedtest, then yes you should also get it.
It really depends, to be honest. I have a Note 2 right now, but I'd really like a N7105 LTE version. I briefly had a Galaxy S4 but got rid of it because it wasn't as good as the Note 2. If the Note 3 comes out and is just a SGS4 in a Note size, then I'd take the LTE Note 2 any day. The slowness and lag of the S4, particularly in the camera app, coupled with the outrageous heat it generates and the pointlessly short battery life while doing very little make it a no-go. Hopefully the Note 3 is better engineered.....
Had note 2 LTE version sold it but missed it and bought cheaper n7100 but not much difference. Best wait for note 3

Hi I just recently bought an international Samsung Galaxy S3 and for some reason I can only get EDGE data on the phone. Under specs the phone says it supports 3G/HSPDA data. I have Simple Mobile and have set the APN to Simple Mobile and still only get EDGE. I have also noticed that when running a SpeedTest it says the closest server/tower to me is Whichita, Ka which is ridiculous because I'm in New York City. Can someone please tell me how to get 3G/HSPDA data on my phone. Thanks in advance!
I currently have a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with AT&T LTE. I am so ready to upgrade to the new Tab Pro 10.1; but the lack of LTE is keeping me on the fence.
Has anyone heard any rumors that an LTE variant is on the way?
The other option is using my S4 as a hotspot to provide internet while out and about. The only bad thing there is the S4 chews thru the battery when using it as a hotspot.
Ok, so to start off I currently own a Verizon Note 2 SCH-I605. I currently do not actually have a Verizon contract and have had straight talk a couple times in the past, got everything to work just fine. I recently got Walmarts 30 dollar T-Mobile sim starter kit for $30.00~ and have gotten just about everything working, except I am unable to figure out how I can improve my speed from the h+ I'm seeing.
I have been searching everywhere online and can't seem to find a clear idea if there is even a remote possibility of getting 4g lte from t-mobile on this verizon note 2. I've never rooted a phone before but I can assume that if it is even possible, then I am going to be heading down that route. Is it even possible to get t-mobiles 4g lte with this phone in any capacity or am I just out of luck?
Guess I'll just stick with this h+
