Did your G4 come with native call blocking? My Verizon G4 doesn't have (I suspect they removed it) any native call blocking. I'm currently using "Call Blacklist Pro" and it's working the way I want, only my contacts will ring through. All other numbers go straight to VM. I get anywhere from 0 to 6 calls per week from blocked or unknown numbers, and so far they've all been blocked.
If you use something else, what is it? I'm open to trying new options. While my current app is working OK, I still wish my G4 had native blocking like my Galaxy S4. I wish Verizon would stop removing stuff.
It's there on Verizon, but hidden. I used an app called quick shortcut maker. Search for reject. You'll see a call reject activity. Make the shortcut on your home screen, and it works great.
if you have root, use RCB Root Call Block Pro... the best Call Blocker i every seen
thank you so much. I was getting rather aggravated that Verizon hid call blocking. Had it on my note 3 and just got a g4 today and there was no call block list. Glad its still there, even if it is hidden.
Verizon charges for call blocking, of course they hid it.

Other ways to see rejected calls is, simply go to call logs, and you will see a "red crossed" circle down the numbers call rejected for.

I'm looking for a call filter similar to Magicall on windows mobile. I would like to send all callers not in my contact list to voicemail while keeping a separate call log for blocked calls. Any suggestions on apps that actually work?
Try "call filter siesta", its a kind of free white list app.
You can define groups and individuals. It also have a nice feature
that can unmute your phone by sms.
easy filter is good and its also free
"Root Call Blocker" in the market works great, has a bunch of options for each type of call. Only thing is, you must be rooted for it to work. Its a paid app, but worth the price. I use it.
I recommend "Reverse Lookup", it has the ability to give geo location of the phone number's registered address and filtering features.
Powerful indeed!
Root Call Blocker
Another recommendation for Root Call Blocker.

Does anyone have any experience with this app from the market?

Why bother? There is a blacklist on your phone already that blocks calls....
I use that, however I haven't figured out how to block unknown numbers is why I ask. Also, the built in app allows blocked callers to leave voicemail

Only thing I notice with this app is that it shut off data at reboot and takes a bit to turn back on. Other than that, it works as it should

All apps will take the caller to voicemail unless you call tmobile and tell them to change it. I had to do it when I used the call blocker app on vibrant before I found the blacklist. After you have tmo change it, if you stop the ring by rejecting the call or if they are on blacklist, it will ring busy. If you let the call "ring out" for lack of a better term, it will take the caller to voicemail. Also, there should be a tab in the blacklist to reject unknown callers.
thanks for the info very helpful
it would help if I had the Unknown number checked in the auto reject options
thanks again
i have used "MR. Number" from Market and it worked pretty good for me.
I use extreme call blocker. and you can set it like pick up and hang up. found in the market
Yep, the two best ones are made by the same company:
Root Call Blocker (for general use):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Call Master (for advanced users):
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist
These are the only blockers that completely block everything without turning the screen on. Need to be rooted though.
My Evo had a nice call blocking setup built in (may have been after I rooted but am not sure) where you had the option in the edit contact menu to block them. It would not ring through unless I was on the other line which was fine and it would push them right to voicemail.
I just got my Note 2 and have not been able to find a way to do this. It has that block call built in that will disable all calls but that is far from ideal because I would need to allow permissions for every other contact and then I would have the call block icon on the top all the time.
Any ideas? I already did a search and came up empty save for a few apps that have their own caveats.
I use Google Voice for this. I think is better than blocking on the Note 2 (dunno about the setup on your Evo) because all blocking on the Note 2 does is make it so you don't get the call. On their end they still hear it ring four times and then go to voicemail. With Google Voice if you set it to block it tells the caller that the number has been disconnected. If you set it to send to voicemail, it doesn't even ring on their end, it goes straight to voicemail.
There is also call screening. You answer the call and then press 1 to let them through or 2 to send them to voicemail. I you send them to voicemail, you can hear what they are saying and can pick up at any time. And there is setting to have unknown callers say who they are before you decide to let them through or go to voicemail.
Plus it has really cheap international calling (my Dad goes to Thailand all the time for work and I can call his Thailand number for $.03/minute (yes 3 cents). I think Sprint charges over $3/minute unless you sign up for their international plan for extra monthly, and even then it is a lot more expensive).
And you can send and receive text messages for free from any computer in the world (and it will show up as your Sprint number so long as you choose to have your Sprint number be your GV number.
And probably more I am forgetting.
And all free. Well, except international calling. You have to pay (a little bit) for that.

I hear ya on that one, I came from the Evo4G also and no you are not mistaken it was a stock option to send contact to voicemail. I too was amazed that this phone didn't have that option in the contact window/menu. As of right now unless you download a 3rd party app to setup a call blocker/blacklist that will either send to voicemail, answer+hang up, or block. Otherwise you have to do like you stated and create a block list and allow everyone but the specified contact which is just ridiculous. Cause in that instance you cannot let through people who are not on your contacts so basically if you want to block a certain contact you have to go to the market to the best of my knowledge. But I had the same issue the other morning, I had someone blowing my phone up when I was sleeping. I looked on my phone forever then went to google search and the forums, and came up with no STOCK resolutions to the issue.
Try hitting menu from the call log screen then call rejection

Hi all
I owned the G2 and G3 on both these devices you had the ability to reject calls by long pressing number and adding to reject list..
However I can not find or am unable to add nuisance calls to a reject list on G4..
Is this function gone or is there another way to do it?.
Cheers.
Hit the dialer app, open the options menu and select call settings. There's an entry named call reject, where you can do this. It's far more complicated than on the G2, but it's there.

Not for Verizon
You can also try an app called Mr Number..Ive used for a couple of years to keep trck of blocked calls, etc
You can still access the reject call screen on Verizon through a shortcut maker, like quick shortcut it, or activity shortcuts on home screens other than lg.
So the reason I'm asking this question is because as you know in the u.s. the robo calls are outrageous. In the Samsung phone app you can block and report those numbers. But the numbers still show up in your recent list which to me is annoying. In the options you can pick which calls to show but then you'll miss out on seeing the other types of calls. I downloaded the Google dialer app and while it works it doesn't give you an option to block calls. If you click on the info button for that call you can't block it so that's a no go for me.
So what dialer app are you guys using that lets you block calls but also doesn't show those numbers when you block them?

try truecaller, its good although there is a lot of in your face ads asking for you to buy premium
Drupe is my pick - same about ads though - but awhile back I bought lifetime pro features and never looked back - it does the best at automatically IDing caller ID, handling blocked calls, recording, recents, favorites, and everything else I'm looking for in a dialer app. I hope you like it too! (It's totally worth giving a try even with the free version for a while)
Nothing better than https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hb.dialer.free
