I've been trying to enable Google Play Store on my OUYA without success. I've tried a couple of times with a factory reset.
My steps are:
Turn on ADB over Network
adb install RootMyOuya.apk
Run the root tool under MAKE & reboot
adb install Mod_Collection4Ouya.5.1.apk
Install CWM Recovery & reboot
(Under MAKE/MOD Collection) Enable CWM Recovery & reboot
(Under MAKE/MOD Collection) Install Play Store & reboot
(Under MAKE/MOD Collection) Enable Play Store & reboot
Run Play Store under MAKE
Enter account info, clear keep informed checkbox
Try to launch Play Store under Make, it appears for an instant and then exits
permissions in system app are all correct
logcat is full of errors but not being an android developer I have no idea which are even relevant
It's at /pastebin.com/4fiFQJGx
I've REDACTED my Google and OUYA account names but that should not be an issue.
(btw the force HDMI resolution ON/OFF switch does not seem to work properly, I turned it on and it won't turn OFF )

You also need the exposed installer, then go to modules section and check the box for the mods you want.

Aha! Thank you VERY much. Obviously and important step
Now I get connection timed out which is, at least, a new problem lol

Maybe go into settings-manage apps and clear data for Google play and play services.
I could never get the store to actually open up. Its on there and you can start it but it then just says no connection.
I would suggest the amazon app store instead, most apps on there will run nicely since the hardware is very similar.
Make sure you go into Xposed Framework --> Modules, and actually TICK the box for the framework using the touchpad, then reboot. Doing this gets rid of the timeout issue.
It is but I just use the amazon store instead
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Tangcla ftw!
Ticking the box for modules worked for me (as stated above)...you have to use the little ouya touchpad, or I just used a mouse.
I can't believe that simple thing was preventing google store from coming up!
Thanks for the tips tangcla (and others).
I know you wrote that back in January 2014, but it still works today! (July 2015)
I do use amazon store also, works great!

So I am from one of those countries where Google Now/Now on Tap is not supported by Google. But I still want to enable it anyway...Need HELP.
It says 'This account is not eligible to use google now'. I have tried all the fix available on the internet but failed. Those are specially not working because they are for lollipop or for previous versions of Android; not for Marshmallow.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP??
BTW, I am looking for both Rooted/non-Rooted methods..
Have you tried xposed framework? I saw that it's available for Marshmallow. It's what I used on my N4 to activate some US-only features because I had my system set to German.

No, I haven't. But I guess that would be a worthy try.. Okay, let's just say it's an option but before Rooting, I wanna try any other possible way.. Thanks..
So it's functional for all of you guys living outside the 'supporting countries'?
I was hoping there must be a way without Rooting... I want to use Google Now, please HELP!!!

Thanks but nothing worked.. It says 'This account is not eligible to use google now'.
I have tried to access US google play store through VPN but it didn't work. And Market Unlocker may work but it requires Root, which I don't want to do this early..
I was searching for a way to get past this too. Finally stumbled upon one after hours of messing around. Worked for me, hope it works for you too.
1. First download hotspot shield or any other vpn app from the playstore.
2. Disable google play services and sign out from your google account.
3. In Settings, go to location and choose "device only".
4. Download google play services from your browser.
5. Start hotspot shield and change location to America or any place where google now is available.
6. Install google play services that you've downloaded via your web browser (Please note that you have to allow installation of apps from unknown sources which can be done in security)
7. Sign in to your google account. You should be able to activate google now under Settings > Now Cards.
8. Once activated, uninstall google play services update that you've installed or disable it again and re-enable it. (If you are able to download apps from the playstore, then you can skip steps 8 to 11)
9. Turn off hotspot shield.
10. Go to apps, search for google playstore and clear data and cache.
11. Now go to google now and select update google play services.
Google Now should work now.

Nope. No root required
NOPE. It didn't work.. When turning on Now Cards, it is disabled and says 'not available in your country'.
Seems Hotspot Shield didn't work. Probably Rooting and trying would be only option..
FINALLY, this works for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-enable-google-cards-country-t3102472
So when I went to Google Play store to down load Android Auto it states my unit is not compatible. Didn't know why it's not compatible so I figured why not load it and try it.
I'm running Android 8 Hal build. It compress with the ability to run/install APKs.
Did a Google search for Android Auto APK using chrome in the head unit. Found a version, downloaded.
Opened that APK install program, opened the folder with the download in it, installed.
Low and behold it worked.
I use my phone as a hotspot and bluetooth connection.
Hope this helps others.

As requested.
Thanks by your info. Just checked and Android Auto installed. But, did ou get using Android Auto built-in phone dialer? In my case I got the message "network not found". It seems device is trying to use built-in 4G line instead phone line from celullar BT. Did you fix this issue?
I'm very interested in buying this phone, but not without google apps like Play, maps, etc. Is anyone planning on doing a rom for the Mate Xs?
Does not work (without Root), no way (Backup or any App). And root is NOT possible without Bootloader-UNlock.
It should be possible using this method.

I managed to get further by more closely following the instructions posted by jutley, unfortunately after installing everything successfully I got stuck at the "This device isn't Play Protect certified" even when registering the gsf id
where you able to make chat partners app work ?

No, using the other method with the backup; the link provided by jutley.
It looks like everything is installed correctly but I'm completely blocked by Play Protect. I've tried factory reset to get a new gsf id and registering that as well but no dice. Seems like the id registering just doesn't work?

english please
can one help us to how to install Google app shown in Spanish YouTube in details in English.
with needed files.
Thanks.
I can try to summarize the steps I think is needed after trying for a couple of days.
(Disclaimer: I haven't actually tried it from scratch but I'm pretty sure these are the only things needed)
(Start at 10. if you already have it working but want to get rid of the errors.)
First get the files from these videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MfxLUNWJr0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEBrOwQP_0o
1. Put the files on a USB stick (Dunno if it is needed, it might be fine to put them on the phone directly)
- (!)The Huawei folder needs to be in the root.
- You'll have 4 important folders, Huawei, Google pack, fix and newfix.
2. Go to Settings/System & updates/Backup & restore/Data backup/External storage/USB storage/17 October 2019 and then press restore.
- Enter the password it asks for (a0000000)
- This will put 2 sketchy apps on your homescreen.
3. Install all apks in the Google pack folder.
4. Run the sketchy app with a purple G and press Activate when it asks you to. Then continue pressing the buttons (really see the video for this) and restart the phone when it fails with the first spinny thing.
- Once restarted you will be spammed with errors, ignore these for now (disable sound, they are super annoying)
5. Revoke the access and uninstall the sketchy apps. It's not needed but I wouldn't leave it enabled for a second longer than I need.
- Go to Settings/Security/More settings/Device administrators and set the G app to inactive.
- Uninstall the G app and the other one as well I assume.
6. Uninstall Google Services Framework.
- Settings/Apps/Apps - search for google and enable Show system processes in the right corner menu.
- I had issues with this on my phone that it would just freeze and restart when I tried it, the solution seemed to be to clear all its data and force stop the proccess until the force stop button stopped being active.
7. Go to the fix folder and install google account manager4.0.3.apk
8. Create your google sync accounts in Settings/Users & accounts/Add an account/Google.
- Follow the instructions as you would for logging in to google.
- (!) Add all the accounts you want to sync now, I can't seem to add them afterwards.
9. Go to the fix folder and install com.google.android.gsf_10-29_minAPI29(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
- Restart and after that everything should work except for a lot of errors everywhere. At this point the fist video tells you to just disable the notifications but it doesn't help for example gmail and you have to do it for every new app you install so it is pretty annoying. The google sync also broke for me after restart.
10. Install the Device ID app from the app store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vtechnotm.com.deviceid&hl=en)
11. Uninstall Google Play services - same procedure as 6.
- To verify that you're on the right path the version you just uninstalled should have been version 19.2.75.
12. From the newfix folder install modagain1gsm.apk.
- This is the Google Play services version 19.4.20.
- Make sure the play store still opens, it might show an error but should preferably still show apps.
13. Reinstall Google Services Framework.
- First repeat step 6.
- Install the file in newfix Google Services Framework-com.google.android.gsf-29-v10.apk
14. Start the Device ID app and verify that you don't have any GSF ID.
15. Poke around in the play store until the Device ID shows a GFS ID, see the video.
- This step feels very unscientific and sometimes it took me forever...
- If it doesn't work make sure you have Google Play services version 19.4.20 installed.
- Don't reboot your phone, it should regenerate the ID just by poking around. I got it regenerated when rebooting but then it didn't work after that.
16. You got the ID generated! Uninstall Google Play services and install the file com.google.android.gms2.apk from the newfix folder.
- Verify that Google Play services is now version 20.12.14.
That's it! Everything should work after this.
I'm pretty confident you can skip some steps here, for example you could install Play services 19.4.20 from the newfix folder already at step 3 to avoid having to reinstall once. But I'm also super unsure why all this actually works so I'm scared to change the procedure
Feel free to suggest corrections!
My TV is a 48PFT5500. I know it is old but it's all I have at present. It is running Android 5.1.1, last updated on 13 July 2018 which is the last version avilable from Philips. But now I can no longer log into Google Play Store. When I enter my username and password, it says my username or password is not correct. I have tried many times. I can log into my Google account without problems from other devices, so I know I am using the correct credentials.
After reading another thread, I guessed I needed to update the Play Services app. But obviously I cannot do this directly from the Play Store because I cannot log into it from the TV. Also, I cannot find any type of File Manager app on the TV, so I cannot even install the Play Store app from a USB drive. Nor can I install a File Manager app because I cannot login to the Play Store.
Also I tried switching on two-step verification on my Google account, but this made no difference.
I tried clearing the Play Services app cache on the TV, but it did not help.
I switched on the Developer options and allowed unknown sources and USB debugging, then I tried to connect with adb over wifi. But it doesn't work, adb says "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it". No message is displayed on the TV to accept the incoming connection.
Maybe there is another way to connect the pc to the TV with a USB cable ... maybe with a type-A to type-A (male to male)? Would that cause a problem due to both devices trying to output 5V over the cable?
Is there anything else I can try - I just want to update the TV to get as much use out of it as possible.
Any useful suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, I replied to you on the other thread. I'll copy here the answer:
Hi man, i have the same TV and had the same problem. To fix this you have to unplug the TV and try 1 or two times. I did everything by Wi-Fi, after reading your post i purchased the USB cable but was not necessary.
I did this way:
1 opened cmd or powershell runned as administrator
2 runned adb connect xxxxx (IP address of TV)
3 accepted on the TV pop-up the connection
4 downloaded google service apk from apk mirror
5 used adb install -r xxxxx (location googleservic.apk dowloaded)
It worked! I tried in first attempt sideload -r but didn't worked. You have to use the command "install -r" to reinstall google service.
Hi TheRealCedax,
I previously tried to login to the tv using abd over wifi. I tried many times and every time it refused my connection. This time I tried what you said, and unplugged the tv, then tried again. It worked! So thank you very much for your advice.
Now I have sideloaded the Google services apk, and I can login to Google Play Store again. Obviously there are not many apps available! Not even a good browser.
Did you manage to find any useful apps anywhere?
Also do you happen to know if I can use a keyboard with the tv?

I have had the same problem but after 3 nights of trying diffrent things it is now sorted.
1. Factory reset the TV
2. set up tv as normal but dont bother to try to log into google.
3. On a laptop download Downloader.apk
3. Download ADB Tools from here : https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools
4. Connect your laptop to the same network as the TV
5. Enable Debugging and Unknown sources
6. Connect to your TV using ADB (Google how to do this, its easy)
7. Install downloader using ADB (Again google how to install an app using ADB its super easy and takes a few seconds)
8. On the TV open downloader and use the code 48157 to install Apptoide
9. open Apptoide and install google play services, I also installed Youtube from Apptoide as well.
10. Close downloader and open the goole play store, the login will now work as its the new version of Google play services.
This may seem daunting but its actually very easy and took me 5 minutes start to finish. It works and you will have a fully functioning Phillips android tv.
