Is it alright to run this new firmware with say, andybones 5.1 rom? Do we know what fixes are in the firmware yet or any advantages over 2.6.605.10?

I can't see how it would hurt.... Give it a try.. you might want to pluck the boot.img out of it first as i'm not entirely sure what @andybones did with the kernel.

Thanks. I have not worked with firmware zips much. Can I just pull the boot.img out and re-zip? Or does the archive need to be packaged in a specific way or with a specific tool? I am usually running OSX.
This M9 is like a new phone now that I have it s-off/unlocked....being stock for so long was torture. Self-inflicted, but still torture.

Most zip utilities will allow you to simply remove that boot.img without even unzipping... it's a pretty simple zip though so if you need to unzip... remove and rezip..

Great. Thanks. Don't want to screw anything up.
I've generally been a pretty quiet XDA member for the past 8yrs...but I have to say:
Dotdat, you are a valuable member here. Great job and thanks for all you do for everyone.

I flashed the full firmware.zip with the new boot.img and recovery.img
reflashed the custom TWRP.

Stock Deodexed ROM will be coming late tonight, tomorrow, if all goes to plan.
@dottat is testing it for me now, and then will send me the system apps that need updating and I will move them into system, and then upload and make new thread in Dev section.

Nm...looks like you already followed up before I responded

This is the first time I've had to do that...I found it I'd but the phone kept searching for that One file.
Thanks though

Those of you who manually flashed the OTA-- how long did the 'Patching system image after verification' step take for you? I feel like it's been on this step for over 20 mins...
Nm...just finished that step now.
FYI to anyone taking this route-- that step took atleast 25 minutes to complete on my device...so don't freak out!

Yes.. I had posted in the 5.1 update thread yesterday that when i took the OTA, it threatened me with a downtime of 35 minutes!

Stock Deodexed 2.6.605.15 ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...m-stock-deodexed-official-2-6-605-15-t3184535

Having a problem here. I've tried putting the OTA on both internal and external memory, have tried renaming to 0PJAIMG.zip and ptt.zip. When I boot into download mode it doesn't search for anything. It just comes up with reboot options and below the warning message it says SD NOT MOUNTED. I RUU'd with the SD card method when I got the phone, and updated to the previous firmware via SD card, so I'm not sure why this isn't working.
Edit: Yeah I forgot you can't do this with 128gb card. I'm good.

[SOLVED]Koodo Stock Recovery found!

GO TO THE POST BELOW FOR THE RECOVERY AND INFO. PLEASE THANK HIM

This is his topic full of stock recoveries and what-not
--------------------
Bear in mind that I do not have the time to restore to stock, and then check it for myself if you can extract the stock recovery without root, but you probably can. Please refer to the quote I will post below as I have little time to clean this post up.
Please thank user Davy Jones for actually finding the solution!
Davy Jones said:
Okay, I don't know any coding so I apologize if this is a dumb suggestion, but is it possible to follow the article's directions to pull recovery? So from shell:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/sdcard/recovery.img bs=4096
I'm already on cwm so I have no way of testing this. Also, please don't try this unless you know what you are doing. I tried this on cwm and it created a file that was 10MB instead of the .img I originally flashed, which was 5.98MB.

My post starts here
-------------------------------------------
Alrighty that's wonderful. I am trying a guide right now and I will see if I am successful at extracting a recovery and I will report back.
EDIT
I've made wonderful process, and I've extracted a 10mb file which what the recovery.img supposed to be resized to.
So i've basically typed in
After this, I got a huge list of the partitions, and using this I've confirmed that mmcblk0p22 is the block that contains the recovery (I also made sure that I didn't extract something else, etc by checking what the userdata and sdcard size is supposed to be?
Then I typed in
and got
So I ended up with a 10MB file sitting in the root of my internal memory (known as sdcard)
Now I will try to confirm if it is the same file as my recovery.
EDIT
Well after more digging around.. I found this and where it says "Download - Recovery Image Method (using dd):" It shows that the block which the recovery is in in actually the same as the one above, so there was an easier way. Oh well! At least we confirmed that we have the correct file, the question is, can we flash it, guess I'll try after I get home.
If you want to try this out on a NON-Rooted one, you'll have to go to Settings>Developer Options>Root access and allow ADB.
-----------------------------------------------
Quote ends here.
Hopefully you're a Koodo owner reading this and have noticed the title.
Many of us Koodo owners, have rooted, installed a custom recovery, and have started the flashing frenzy, but we have forgot one thing.
No its not making a NAND of the stock ROM, its the fact the we forgot to backup our stock recoveries! I know it might not be a difference compared to the Telus recovery, but we still need to be sure, that when we want to update, or if we want to return the phone, what we are fully stock.
So what I'm asking you, is to make a backup of your Koodo stock recovery, and share it with us
Unfortunately I do not know how to extract a recovery.img. So hopefully an XDA member will post a guide in this to help us extract the .img
or as always, Google is your best friend
Cheers, and thanks

I could help, Ive got a Koodo S2 X. However, its not rooted, would i still be able to make a backup of my stock recovery.
Yes I believe it is still possible, just make sure Debugging mode is on and you are using the ADB method, and not the one that has the Android Terminal one. Thanks
My friend and my girlfriend both have Stock Koodo Phone... so i'm gonne try to bring the original Koodo Recovery.img. I read the articles from addictive tips... but i think i missed something, They said we need to root the phone but the first step in the method to root the phone is to install CWM recovery IMG via Odin... So it will overwrite Koodo original Recovery.img.... before i extract it...
Any clue or hint ???
Maybe another way to root via ADB ???

No. What you're pointing to us is a custom Rom... Based on the Stock Koodo Rom. What we are looking for is the Stock Recovery... Just to put back the entire phone in original condition if you have to bring it back to manufacturer for repair...

Sorry to be the bad news but I believe this recovery is the one that I've packaged before I though I've found the TLLG2 stock recovery from this site page 68( post by netusername and uploading it without testing it 1st.... then later installed/tested it and it was a CWM touch recovery and not the TLLG2 stock recovery, Sorry again.

KOODO STOCK IMAGE/RESTORE
Directions: Download these three in the same folder - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
Use Winrar/7zip to only extract Part 1 after you have all three parts in the same folder. You should get a folder called clockworkmod. There should be another folder called "backup" inside.
Put the "clockwordmod" folder in your sd card.
Use clockwordmod to restore after factory reset, wipe system, wipe dalvik cache.... It is recommended that you use Clockwordmod 6 - it can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1823117

[curious] What are you guys doing? [/curious]
You realize backing up any part of your original stock ROM is pointless? All you have to do pick up the original stock tarball from Samsung's website, fire up ODIN, flash, and then not even Samsung can tell you ever did something to your phone. It will be stock everything: radio, recovery, ROM...
---------- Post added at 08:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:31 PM ----------
Here, follow the instructions: http://fus.nanzen.se/
There are no presets for Koodo, but all the information you need is readily available on the original box your phones came in.
And if you really need the Koodo recovery for whatever reason, it is an IMG file inside the TARball. You can just DD it in place.

Location of the update file

Hi, guys.
My SM-N910P (OB7) just downloaded update - 276.98 MB.
I still do not want to be update yet.
Tell me, please, the location of the update file.
I want to copy it to computer.
Dont take the update youll be sorry
I do not want to be updated.
I want to find where the update file is loaded into the phone - where it is.
Cant get it wothour root access
Thank, but I have root access. And I have Root Explorer too.
Should be in the cache folder
Cool upload the oe1 recovery to sav us all !!
In the folder "Cache" no update file..
Search for "Update.zip" is my other guess. I use ES file explorer and am not sure on the root explorer features but with ES I believe I have to have show hidden files enabled to see secret stuff. Maybe the same with the update?
Thanks to all.
I figured out where the lost file update.zip.
CF-AutoRoot cleared FOTA folder in the folder CACHE.

Thanks for the reply. The reason a lot of people dont want the OE1 update is because of the limitations it puts on your phone. Cant use Odin in certain areas and also cant go back, from what i understood, limiting ones customization and tinkering abilities.

OB7 recovery is patched to OE1 recovery.
I wrote that the archive has a strange format, and I was able to unpack his part with errors only with the latest version of 7-zip.
I attached update-script from this update.
Added SHA1.
Added screens about recovery.
Yup, those are the only 2 files in the recovery folder via the update.zip
Both files
Downloaded the update. Guess it's good to have. Might need it for fixing up the firmware I modded to get next update. Or not. Lol

HK HTC10 Returning to stock rom

Hi there, I'm using Hong Kong version of htc10, i tried to root it but when i flashed supersu and xposed arm64 sdk23, it comes to stuck in the system ui interface showing that: 'System UI has stopped unexpectedly....etc.' Looping in that point. So i tried wipe all data in twrp mode and reboot again, still the same situation. Then I download a TW version of stock IMG which is 1.30.708.1(Original was 1.53.708.4) and flashed it in download mode, after that i rebooted it, everything is normal again. Fresh new welcome screen.
But there are some features that i can't use such as can't receive 4G+ signal, can't receive VoLTE, even could't use battery saving mode ....etc.
So I just want to know where can I find the STOCK IMG for my HK version CID HTC__622, which is 1.53.708.4 or so called RUU for it? Thanks.:crying::crying:

the working link for the download is on the next page.
this is definitely the HK rom as after a wipe the default language is HK Chinese.
only problem is OTA does not work and when trying to manually flash the OTA manually (using TWRP and stock recovery) the check on the OTA zip passes but the system check fails so it looks like system has been modified.

Once that file is in correct spot, you will see option to flash it (VOLUp to flash). Been a while since I flashed stock img. Check guide section if you want to confirm.

Please help the Hong kong community by backing up the system image and boot for 1.80.708.6 . I already provided the stock recovery file. It shouldn't take too long.

I would love to help but I've already sold the HTC 10 on already.
But with the RUU linked by purple patch you can get to stock completely. And it's so easy!

Sorry to bother you again, I put the 2PS6IMG in the external card, but it show an error message:" FAIL19 RU_MAIN_VER_FAIL os-version in android-info missing."
Maybe the IMG version that i downloaded us higher than my phone currently running? I'm running 1.53.XXX now.
Well, nevermind, I S-OFFed my htc10 and flashed the zip, now I'm using stock firmware and able to receive OTA, Thanks a lot man! You are my HERO!!
I encounter the same situation and like to return to Stock ROM, but my firmware version is 1.92.708.3. Searched over Internet and can't find the corresponded RUU. Anyone have it and can share to me?

you don't need the same version of RUU, just flash the old version. I always flash the 1.53 RUU

I assume you had unlock it, then it may already lost the warrant(not sure for this in HK), so why not s-off it via htc?

Greetings - HTC Desire 816 Sprint Spark Variant

Hi everybody.
So I recently purchased the Sprint Prepaid variant (I think it is the chl version?) of the HTC Desire 816. Great phone, but the bloatware kills the measly 8GB of internal storage. So I decided to root it and installed a Marshmallow rom but didn't catch that it was for a different variant. Everything worked great except for mobile data. So now I'm trying to flash it back to stock. I locked the bootloader which now says "RELOCKED" but it is stuck in a bootloop back to fastboot etc.
Does anyone have a copy of the HTC recovery.img for this device. I stupidly didn't back the stock one up....*kicks self HARD* Any help would be appreciated. :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:
Thanks,
Justin
Man, you broke the 2 most basic rules of flashing . Always verify what you are flashing is compatible with your device and always make a stock back up or 2 before flashing a custom ROM.
The good news is you're not alone in breaking them. We all probably have broken one of them in the past but just got lucky. My variant is the a5_chl Virgin Mobile (Sprint) brain and the stock ROM's are on HTC's website under downloads. I'll try to find the link I saved for my version and link it here for you. As for the stock recovery that should be linked in several places in the 816 threads. I believe one link is in the "how to root your Virgin Mobile 816 " by V_ Superuser. I'll try to link that as well.
As for the bloatware. Removing it won't gain you any more storage space as it's in a separate partition for stock apps. Better off to just root, obtain true S off with the Sunshine app and get the app Link2SD and partition your ext. SD card with enough storage space for your apps and their data. It's what I did and my space is bigger and trouble free doing it this way even though it cost a few dollars. The other method is using a WP_ mod.ko for lollipop that changes the SElinux from enforcing to permissive and installs a init.d script in the system to start at boot up for the device to allow you to add the Link2SD app and use its functions that way instead.

Thank you. I have been so far unable to locate the stock recovery image. Is it part of the package you can get from HTC that you linked to? I read a couple guides that say to use the zip files from HTC, but it looks like the ROMS from HTC are in executables. I tried to run the executable but it would just hang at the HTC screen and the progress bar on the windows program wouldn't move at all.

Here you go. This might be easier. It's FoxyDrew's tutorial for getting back to stock on the VM variant.

Yeah. It won't work unless you first extract the stock recovery img from the exe. by first running it just initially and then in your computer typing in the search section %temp% and looking for the running exe. Then you click it and look for the recovery img from within one of a few numbered and lettered folders. It's in one of them under stock rom I believe. I'll find the video tutorial link I used to get mine and also try to find the link I officially mentioned that has the stock recovery as well.

Okay. So I was able to locate what looks like the correct folder in %temp% as it was created at the time I launched the executable. I couldn't find an .img file but saw the rom.zip? Would the recovery file be in the rom.zip file? The rom..zip would not let me view it's contents, I tried using 7-zip.

Yep, that's it. I forgot what I used to open it. It was a universal program that opens all types of files. You can get the recovery file from that link I gave you also and I'll look and see what program I used to open it with because it doesn't open with all unzipping programs.
EDIT: I believe I used Uniextract but you don't need to do that now that I linked you to the "how to get back to stock on VM 816." He's got the recovery linked there along with the ROM's .

Yeah. You have to first unroot your device then re flash your stock recovery and then lock your bootloader before doing any of that. Exe. or zip. That's the first thing to get straight. The exe contains the whole firmware and is a total re flash of your device. Some just extract the rom.zip and flash that through ADB/fastboot but the steps I mentioned earlier still should be done first.
---------- Post added at 12:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:17 AM ----------
You'll also need to get into hboot/fastboot to unlock your bootloader using the htc.dev key you used to get it unlocked in the first place. Then flash back your stock recovery and relock your bootloader. From there you can flash back your stock rom.

Hi, @mahdi72. It usually takes one to two weeks after the initial release for the TAR file to be available. I grab it off of SAMMOBILE or Samsung-Firmware and then upload it to Android File Host, which is much faster.
If you find it before me, let me know and I'll make it available for the developers and community.
Hurrah I am installing now! 10ish days before the S8 comes out. I will enjoy these last 10 days with my S6. Hopefully this update will magically improve a 2 year old battery.
I pulled the OTA file from my phone ...via...waiting for it to download which took a fewminutes on WiFI ...then pushing later...and rooted my phone..then booted back using Root Explorer to find it under the Samsung device called Fota...and their was something called Update.Zip that was about 1.04GB...so it cant bea corrupted download or anything and when i copy it over... to my phones storage back to my pc...it says unexpected end of archive? and all i see is MetaINF but the Zip Repair saw more files in it and I'm not sure what to do from here..?

What were you trying to do? Were you trying to make an Odin-flashable TAR file from your OTA? It doesn't work that way.
Restore your phone to stock, take the OTA that way. An OTA needs you to be running stock and stock recovery. That will get you to Nougat. You should be able to root then.
The TAR file will be available in one to two weeks. You should be aware that the TAR files are generally 1.7 GB, larger than the OTA.
Ohhhh!!

I restored my phone back to stock and will install the New Firmware, I was just afraid that If I do that and I'm not liking it that I won't be able to odin back to Marshmellow But I'm willing to take the chances, as far as rooting and all would you be able to provide me the links? or forums for this version? all i really like on my specific phone is stock with an audio mod and nothing else installed lol x)

You must wait for zip/tar file for download and flash via odin, or you can flash stock 6.0.1 ,and update via settings-->system update

Like other guys said, you can't update straight to Nougat from big daddy's until the tar file is released, but if you can't wait, then do the following:
Find Koop's thread and install the latest available stock thru Odin. Then update to Nougat thru system update like everyone on stock. Then you can reroot (there's a thread for that too).
Normally this process does not wipe data or media, but of course you need to backup everything just in case. And you might find you need to wipe data anyway for some system stuff to work right. Especially if you installed big daddy's Grace UX stuff. That has some funky system apps from other devices.
I'm about to go thru this exact process, so wish me luck.
(Sorry for not providing links to those threads, but I'm on mobile. They're not hard to find anyway.)
