Location is not available when copying files over to PC - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, hope you are able to shed some light. I save all my photos/videos on the device memory. When I try to copy these files over to PC, I get the error "Location is not available" . I have tried KIES3, but it says the phone is not supported. I then tried to import it via Windows Import in my computer, I also get the error. If it were saving on the SD card I could've formatted the card and see if that solved the problem, but with device memory it's not the same. I have no idea if something is stuffed up on the phone itself. Any ideas?

Can you help with micro SD card

I was wondering if another Desire user could help me out. I had a bit of a problem with my phone and had to switch it off and remove my micro sd card, but when I plugged it into my computer with an adapter there was no useful information on it for me to get back. This either means that this is standard and the micro sd card can only be read properly when the sd card is in the Desire and then plugged in. Or that my sd card has an error.
Could someone please help with this and let me know what files they can see when they put their micro sd card into their computer directly.
The picture is what I see.
Run Checkdisk (chkdsk) then file restoring software, to recover your files.
Then Re-format the card. Happened to me once, everything got meesed up. Re-format helped.

Checkdisk isnt a recovery software, but I ran it already, and I tried the recovery program but I cant seem to be recovering anything but more useless information, I dont know if the data is lost or if its still on the card but only readable through the desire itself.
Can someone please do what I said in my original post and let me know what they can see with just the micro sd card in the computer
Thanks
CHKDSK is scans for harddrive damage and it DOES recover the files, but with the .chk extension.
These are the files on my SD:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
If thats the case then thanks for letting me know.
I ran chkdsk like this.
Plugged in the micro sd card in the computer, went to my computer and right clicked the SD card, clicked properties, went to tools and then error checking.
Selected both the check for system errors and scan for bad sectors. Started it and 2 seconds later it closes and doesnt actually do anything taht I can see. I go back to the sd card and still nothing has changed.
Where should it be putting the recovered .chk files?
Cant wond scan via windows, so i did it by cmd. Said it couldnt convert threads as there is no room. So I'm guessing I have to format it first. I hope this doesnt get rid of my files permanently, I didnt have any other copies of my contacts or anything, and phone is completely broken.

Transferring files to SD Card (External) - error messages?

Hi,
For some reason I've been unable transfer files to my (external) SD Card while it's installed in my S3 and connected via USB. I always get an error message (on Windows).
I always have to pull the Micro-SD card out and connect it via a card reader on my PC.
Anyone else encounter the same issue.
I'm using Windows 7.
I could post screen-caps of the error messages later if needed.
Are you able to transfer files to and from the internal storage of the S3?

When you are attempting to transfer files are you dragging the file to the phone storage or external? When you drag the file over your phone it should auto open a dropdown that has phone and then SD card or external card. Also are you on a bootcamped Mac running Windows 7? Mac will throw those errors unless you copy the file from your Mac partition to your Windows partition.
Just to knock the easy ones out of the way... USB debugging enabled, drivers installed for MTP?
Can you post the error message please?
And no the irony isn't lost on me that I own a macbook pro and have a member ID poking fun at Apple. I'm a full Android convert. I love my macbook though...

[Q]problem transferring files to external sd

so, I've encountered problems transferring files to the removable sd card, when i try to copy something it indeterminately sits on "discovering" and in the mean time it crashes explorer ( not internet explorer) and also the phone completely freezes and has to be restarted. same happens when i try deleting stuff out of the sd card from windows and mac as well.
the same does not happens to the internal memory. And so far this is what i have done to see if it fixes the problem:
tried a couple different sd cards- did not work (was able to get rid of some files, but then it just went back to do the same)
tried it on mac os and windows, same thing, it crashes finder/explorer.
so i was thinking, could be related to anything software? or maybe my sd card slot is shot? the computers and the phone itself recognizes the sd card no problem, so that's why i think it might be software related.
Anyhow, so i was wondering if anyone could shed some light my way ? :good:
thanks alot!
EDIT: if i reboot to the recovery and mount from there it seems to work and transfer files with no problem whatsoever....
Have you tried changing the connection to MTP?

that seems to work too!!! awesome, i was getting worried my brand new gs2 had sd slot problems.
edit: no never mind, now it says something along the lines of windows cannot identify the device connected.

files not showing when connected to PC

when i connect my phone to my PC, it is recognized. when i goto SD card, all it says is available space, but nothing is showing as being on there. so this is preventing me from added a zip file to it to flash. no files are showing, not even the internal storage.
im rooted on d2att_port.
any ideas how to get my files to show? this happened before iand i cant remember how it wAS FIXED. search is unavailable so im asking here.
thanks
I had this issue just last week. What worked for me was to unmount sd card in settings. That may have fixed it there but I also powered down the phone..ejected sd card and reinserted.

SD Card now slowing as RAW and slow to respond

Hi, I have an SD card that seems to be corrupt in some way and heres whats going on. My friends mother was trying to copy some files off her phone and onto her SD card. Well she canceled one of the copies and after that nothing on the card was readable. Well after rebooting the phone it says that the card is unformatted or unsupported. Well after plugging it into a Windows computer it does not appear at first. After a few minuets of waiting it will appear but will not load the partition. Attempting to run CHKDSK returns that it can't be run on a RAW File System. At this point what can be done? She really wants to get the photos off this card.

Sounds like it's reached End of Life. I have had some success in using a different device to read the card. I couldn't read a failing card from my PC but I was able to stick the card into a camera and then connect the camera to the PC via USB and get the files off. I guess not all devices read the card the same way.
