Theoretically, we should be able to install the Android TV Launcher, and install the associated Play Store now that we're on Lollipop (well, some of us). Anyone succeeded yet?

Have you gotten it yet? I posted in another thread I don't even have 54.1.2.2 yet.
I'd think leanback launcher would work but doesn't OS 5 have its own version of leanback? I know the kindle looks dramatically different, eliminating the scroll wheel and looking a lot more like traditional android.

Did you try it yet? I tried a couple of versions they didn't work. What's strange to me is it seems to install without any problems (no error message) but then it won't open and it doesn't appear in the apps section. I'm using fire stick.

Same here. I installed the Leanback Launcher and I know it's there because LLama sees it. Doesn't do anything though. I haven't tried installing all the other Google Play services though. Probably depends on those.

Yes. That might help. If I get a chance I'll try it &report back.
Update--play services alone didn't work. Play services DID install and it runs but we may need framework. Someone with experience getting that to work on non rooted devices might be able to add support. My aftvs are rooted and haven't tried much with stick.
Leanback Launcher on Fire TV 2
Has anyone tried to install the Leanback Launcher on the Fire TV 2? Now that the Fire TV is on OS 5.0 is there a way to mod the launcher to work with the Fire TV 2. Leanback Launcher could be a nice alternative on the Fire TV 2.
thanks
Have you bothered reading other threads in this very same troubleshooting section lol! It has been done already and is possible but it requires more than just installing the Play Store APK... you need xposed, certain xposed modules, twrp, open gapps and a customer launcher etc. at this point in time... Look for the question in this thread that is titled similar to your post.

I always search for an answer before I post.....A lot has changed with the AFTV2 that now has a recovery, Xposed and gapps....However, since you say it has "been done already" I'll look for that specific thread for an answer to my question.
thank you

Got the leanback launcher to come up after installing rbox's firetvmods and reboot. It appears to be a somewhat striped down version and doesn't load Recommendations. It isn't showing settings either. I'm gonna keep at it though because I feel like I might be getting close....lol
IT is hard to do it,now im try to do it
See this https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/project-aftv2atv-t3489239
Its working amazing, @peleg is working on even getting other things working. I have been running it for last week and no plans going back to Amazon launcher.

yea it worked awesome.
only thing you have to clear data on app after you close it because it says unsupported device. but good stuff regardless.
thanks.
just waiting for the official app to work on the nexus now -_- theyre so stupid.
nvm spoke to soon it only works on my one s.
great.
yeah i got it to work on my mytouch 4g with a simple build.prop edit but not my Nexus 7. it might have something to do with the app seeing it as a tablet and not a phone, is there a way to trick it to think its a phone?

says "Version not supported"
does this work yet anyone?
the option on my galaxy note or my nexus 7 from google play is missing to download the dam app
ANYONE !
You would think they would support the New Nexus devices especially the 10 and the N7 ( the most popular 7inch out ATM) but no they go and promote the K-fire and HD because well they have a contract with them and give out one free with a two year agreement so we loose and Cablevision won't add supported devices for a longtime. Look how long we had to wait to get android support.
there has to be way to root the nex 7 and spoof build as the kindle or some crap this is getting rediculous or to hide the imei if it does have one , not sure

the kindle one works but we have an outdated version Kindle is at 3.0.1 the one available in that link is 3.0
Some how got it to work on my Nexus 7!
I am not responsible for what can happen to your device!
Now what I did was the following:
-Edited my build.prop to match the kindle fire build.prop
-Rebooted my device
-Went to this site: http://www.optimum.net/ExploreOptimum/featuredtl?id=57070183 clicked on the PlayStore link and installed
I can upload the build.prop file if anyone needs it, but I am not responsible for what can happen to your device!

2 questions... how is it working? I had tried side loading previously, but w/o changing build.prop
also, does this seem to effect other apps? (the build.prop changes)
Havent seen it effect any of my apps yet! make sure to back up your OG build.prop

Thank you. I can confirm that this works as advertised. I had to use ES File Explorer and mount my system partition, but once I did that I was able backup and then copy over your modified build.prop file...
Ridiculous that one has to do this, but its doable
anyone got the new apk file? they updated to version 3.0.4 and it's not working on my Galaxy Nexus
BUMP!!!
anyone has 3.0.4????????
Does this method still work?

Hi All,
I've just installed the Lloyds Banking app which I believed was blocked due to being rooted but it's absolutely fine and is working as i'd have expected it to be, haven't tried barclays yet, I'm running viper rom at the moment, was seriously surprised to see it actually function.
Just thought i'd share in case anybody was about to try themselves.
Am trying to run my own back app but it doesn't want due to root !
Tried all the apps to hide my root but no success
Any other tips or workarounds to get it to work on root ?

Haven't bothered with Xposed as of yet as i've found that it murders the battery life on devices it's installed on, I might give it a whirl over the weekend.
Have you got xposed installed yourself? Was the installation quite simple?
I've used xposed before but it's changed since lollipoop came out, have used root cloak before too but it didn't help with certain apps, virgin anywhere and barclays.

Hi:
The Installation is simple just follow the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
First install with the recovery, and then the apk. The battery consumption did not see. Also use Amplify.

Yeah, the only option is to freeze (block future) updates in case it becomes possible to Root at a certain FW version in the future.
As for Kodi stuff. Try out & search for FireTVGuru build. ( FireTVGuru.net )

Yesterday I was uploading it but my modem died, here it is for ya
https://mega.nz/#!3egTwJ4B!O2SzNFoSlgQYoM9YlaFXv7NHWZHfcaqXgrXENRVuB7A
However, development is dead cause of the super strict Amazon policies to make the stick unrootable and unmodifiable, even the launcher can't be modified, and every update make things worst...
Thank you.
That is version 68.4.2.3440.85.30.
Is that the newest version since the rebranding?
http://www.aftvnews.com/amazon-rebrands-their-silk-browser-for-the-fire-tv/
Edit: nevermind. I can see from the Amazon website that this is indeed the latest version.
Installed the latest sdk26 and installer v 3.1.4. Installer says that framework is installed but not active. Xposed apps dont start/work.

I see you have an AOSP based rom tho. Xposed always had little trouble working on those. I wonder if anyone with stock or stock-ish ROM got it working. I tried, but as of right now, just like xposed dev said, it bootloops. I guess I will wait for something stable.

Really? Well, I guess that xposed installer just shows a general status then. Well anyway, I found a rom that has xposed preinstalled for S9+ so I went with that. A lot of things crashing tho, can't even search for anything in play store :/ Guess I will wait for a stable version.
