Quick question. I want to factory reset my note 4. Its been sluggish and had a chance to play with a GS6 edge and love the snappiness of it. So, Its about time I cleaned up my note 4 and just do a factory reset. My problem is my pictures. I download FB pictures and would like to locate the folder these are saved in. Yes, they are backed up in google and I can find them, however I like the folder system of my note. The note puts everything in a specific folder. From regular folders, to messenger attachments, to FB pictures, camera, etc... So, I can locate pretty much everything else but the FB pictures. Anyone have any advice? I also looked on the SD card with to no avail.

If you factory reset, it'll clear your internal SD contents too, so your pics will disappear from the phone.
EDIT.
Unless you want to find the folder in order to back it up??
Did I misunderstand?

I just got a Galaxy S3 Tmobile, and I used Kies to restore data, photos etc, from my S2, but the only photo folders shown are the new ones created by the phone( new taken by the camera, my new photo messages, etc), but, using Quickpic I can see all the photo folders that I restored, I tried resetting the phone, deleting the Gallery's cache data, forcing stop and restarting the phone, manually transfering the photos, and still, nothing is shown in Gallery, but, just the new folders. Somebody has a clue why this is happening?

Check a file manager app. It's probably downloaded to a different SD card directory the gallery isn't scanning for.
I think it's sdcard/emulated/0 or something like that. New android versions changed sdcard directories to handle the ability to have multiple users on the phone.
When you find them use the file manager to move them over or connect the phone to USB so it's easier to see all the directories on the screen.

Sounds good, thanks for the advice, funny part of this is that the new pictures and the old ones are together in the DCIM folder, but, gallery only shows the new photos from that folder, is like something is telling to just show the phone own photos and messages.
After is usb plugged, there are 2 folders: Card and Phone, Phone shows DCIM, Picture folders in it, so I don't really see any other directories. I hope you guys understand what I am trying to explain.
So I have a 2 part Dropbox question that basically amounts to me not fully understanding how it all works even though I use it on a daily basis... maybe someone here could help me out...
So I have Dropbox, on my phone (Galaxy Note 3) and 2 PCs, Home and Office.
Question 1 - You know how Dropbox on Android automatically when you're on Wifi uploads every single picture from your phone to a "Camera Uploads" folder on your Dropbox? Well since they're all uploaded already, and I have something like 3000 photos, which is starting to make my Gallery load slowly... Wouldn't the best way to clean them out be to just completely wipe all the photos from my phone... Then go through the Dropbox folder on one of my desktop computers and delete any crappy pictures I don't need to keep, leave the rest in there for backup purposes, and then if I wanted to keep some on my phone, copy those ones back onto my phone?
Question 2 - If I go through that "Camera Uploads" folder (Or any other folder in my Dropbox really) deleting and renaming and reorganizing files on one of my desktop computers... Will all those changes instantly happen on the others? Even if I'm deleting and/or renaming and/or moving around hundreds of files? What's to stop the other computer from syncing back to the one I'm currently going through and undoing all the changes I just made? Like if I have a folder called "X1" and another called "X2" and I delete a bunch of stuff out of each and then combine them into one and then name the new folder "X" ... The other computer at work isn't gonna go and sync my "X2" folder back to the computer I'm currently working on, right?
Obviously these are both a simple but clear misunderstanding of how all this cloud syncing works. I get it in principle, and use it constantly, but there are certain ideas of it that I think I'm just overthinking probably.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also I know that Q&A goes in the Q&A forum but I thought since this is a software thing and not really a phone thing it would be more appropriate in here...
From how I know it works (at least for me) as long as all accounts are logged in with the same info (name/password), and are auto-syncing, the folder that is modified first will be copied to the others when you open Dropbox on the others. In your example you have three (two PCs, and your phone). If you change something from your phone, it will replicate to your two PCs. If you change something on one of your PCs, it will replicate to your other PC, and your phone. It also works with the online site the same way. I just changed something in my phone, logged on to the website through my PC browser, and it replicated right away to match what I did on my phone.
EDIT - And I know you are talking about pics and gallery, and for that I would move/delete from the app on your phone, and not through the gallery. I think if you do something in the gallery it will just change back because you're not actually modifying Dropbox. I'm not really sure since I do all my stuff through Dropbox itself. You can try with one pic to see if it deletes from your other places if you delete it from the gallery.
Thanks for the reply. So yea if it's basically doing it instantly, then I think I'd be safe doing my plan the way I'm planning on it. My plan is to delete everything off the phone, which I know from experience doens't sync deletions to the dropbox... Just new pics get synced to dropbox... So if I delete pic11111.jpg it will still be in my dropbox folder... So with ALL my pics deleted from my phone's gallery, I can then go to my computer and spend a couple hours deleting specific garbage pictures, and those will then sync between the 2 pcs. Then I can move them out of that "Camera Uploads" folder and into a more permanent "Pics" folder. Or move first is probably even better...
Thanks again.
I use Dropbox all the time, I've got 4 accounts (Need that extra space) and then I've got it installed on my Note 3, Nexus 7, and a Galaxy S3. As for computers it's on my Mac, two laptops and a PC desktop. I installed them on all of those for the referral bonus space but now they all have the exact same account. So in answer to your question, you could go on your phone go into settings and turn off camera uploads, but then you would need to go into your gallery and manually upload the pictures you want to keep (which isn't a huge hassle to me at least.) Since you are using cloud storage technically all the photos that get uploaded wouldn't get eating up your space unless you have google+ enabled as well, then they will appear on your phone. Not all of them, but a good majority. I don't know what kind of a computer you use, but when I have dropbox on my MAC sync all of my folders that i have, I swear I get pictures that are quadrupled all the time....so frustrating. In answer to your second question, you can modify any picture, document, etc, that has been uploaded from dropbox to a computer and make any changes you want to it without it making changes to another linked computer. Only way it it would is if you put that changed photo for example, back into your dropbox folder. Hopefully that made sense
[Q] Note 4 Gallery Failure to update
So, how often does the gallery ap, or whatever cache it uses updating for new files?
I download a picture, and it refuses to show up until after I restart the phone.
Ideas?
So. Anyone? Repro:
Download image from external source. Web or Dropbox.
go to gallery app. Notice download gallery is not updated.
have to restart to get it to show up.
Can anyone even repro this? Hello?
SD card speeds?
Hello,
I would start by formatting your SD card and putting your pics back on the SD card. If you dont have a class 10 SD card then the gallery can be a pain.
I use a Samsung 64gb Pro MicroSD and it simply flies. After the first boot up.. never noticed a single refresh. Must have cached all my hundreds of pics as I can
now freely flow though my entire library at full speed with zero redraws. Hope this helps.
PS. Best Buy has the nice 64gb Samsung EVO microSD card on sale for $30 right now. That should be perfect.
That has nothing to do with this. "Havent noticed a refresh". What?
Anyway, the issue is that the gallery is NOT refreshing when new things are written to the card outside of camera photos. So downloaded photos do not show up. It has nothing to do with the SD card.
Thanks.
Good Luck then. Seems you are alone on this. Warranty replace maybe? Factory reset?

Do you have dropbox or picasa Web albums? I know on my phones , the gallery can become unusable because it wants to sync the 9000 pictures I have on drop box, another 6000 or so on picasa and a few thousand from favebook. I have my pictures set to auto upload, so they build up.
Anyway, the gallery automatically I'd set to sync those thumbnails, and the result is that my phone slows to a hault.
Turning off picasa and dropbox to sync in the gallery fixes it every time.
Nope he is not aloe. I have the same issue. And I bet you also have it.
Download a picture from dropbox to SD or externalSD, and try to find it in the gallery. You won't be able to find it because the gallery refresh is slow (or buggy). If you receive files over BT, or snap some pics, they will be instantly available in the gallery. But not downloaded or PC uploaded images.
My solution was to open the image in file exporer. Navigate to where you downloaded it, and open it 1x-2x, then it will show up in the gallery as well. Or another workaround is Quickpic.. It's quite a very awesome app that lets you show/hide different folders (which the default gallery LACKS), even password protect some. The only reason I use the built in gallery is because my display is set to auto adapt and it changes the display to AMODEL picture (but I might change the display to permanent AMOLED picture)..
Hi all! I love this forum and I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me.
I recently upgraded from the HTC one m8 to the HTC 10 and I noticed that sometimes when I take pictures they completely disappear. They're there for a short while then I can't find them again even when I connect the phone to my PC. I can't change the camera settings to store the pics on the device rather than the SD card. For some reason it won't let me change it. Also sometimes when I take a screenshot I get an error saying that it couldn't store it on the SD card because the app doesn't have permission or sometimes it says that there's no room on the SD card. Both are untrue.
I went to a comic convention today and took some good pics, I went to upload one to twitter but I think there was a network problem because nothing online was loading so I restarted my phone and then the pic (and the others I'd taken during that day) had disappeared. I took more pics and double checked they were in the gallery, which they were only to find they have gone missing now.
Is this a device issue or an Android issue? Any help would be great, I'd love to get these pics back.
I feel like I was having issues finding photos I downloaded from Google Drive as well.
Download Quick Pic from the store and see if you can find them through settings.

Thank you for your advice. I downloaded it but unfortunately the pics are still missing. It's just so weird. I shared one via Skype before it disappeared. It still shows up in the Skype convo but nowhere else

Where are you saving them to? The internal storage or external SD card? It shouldn't really matter I suppose but it might be a factor.
I save to the external card and haven't lost any.
To the external card. I tried changing it to internal to see if that made a difference but for some reason it won't let me change it

As the person above me stated, reformat your sd card from within the phone and restart your device. Then change the photo save location to your sd card.

after you get your card formatted and working because it does seem like you have a faulty card or not formatted properly to save the photos, I would set up google photos to save them automatically, you have unlimited storage with it if you choose that setting. That way you will have have them backed up even when on the go and since its kinda the new htc 10 gallery no reason not to use it fully, will also remove the sync sign in the app on the corners of your photos

Do you have an issue where you SD unmounts?? Try a different camera app to see if you can map the internal memory.
I've had the problem with the SD card ummounting, it's a pain but apparently something which a lot of people live with.
Try a different SD card, see if this persists, try with no SD card, see if it persists.
Clear data on the camera app within application manager.
Use a file manager and go to DCIM check all the folders within that folder and see if you can see the images you took.
So long as the little preview of the image showed a change within the camera app, the images should still be on there.
Hope this helps.

The photos already save to the SD card. They've always saved to the SD card from the moment I bought it, put it in the phone and formatted it. I didn't even need to change anything in the camera settings. They're just automatically stored there. I could format it again but then if the photos are somehow hidden on the card then they'll get deleted.

I tried different camera apps and they wouldn't let me choose anywhere but the SD card to save photos. I removed the SD card and the camera apps would'nt take pics. They kept insisting I insert an SD card. The camera app that came with the phone wouldn't even bring up the storage option. The other camera apps wouldn't let me choose anywhere else to save photos. They said cannot write here. I'll try another SD card when I have a chance to get one. The little preview showed at first in the photo gallery but the moment I selected it it wouldn't load then it refreshed and the image was gone.
It's just so odd that it's not all pics.

And in file manager?
Also what rom are you running mate?
Any mods which alter installation locations? Are you on the correct firmware? What htc do you have US carrier? International?
It does sound odd, but I'm thinking fixable. Could it be a read / write issue? Has permissions been denied for the camera?
Check permissions within camera in app manager.

Once they've disappeared from the photo gallery they also disappear from the file manager.
It's the stock rom that came with the phone. I haven't modified it like that in any way.
It's O2 carrier in the UK.
As far as I know it's the correct firmware.
The only time there is ever an issue with the camera is when occasionally it tells me it can't save the image due to insufficient storage (which is untrue because there's plenty of storage) the same happens for screen shots sometimes but a restart of the phone fixes this on both occasions.

If it's stock then you're on the correct firmware, have you tried factory wiping the device??
If you have then it could be a faulty phone as this does sound pretty unique, i've never heard of it before.

I haven't tried a factory wipe yet. Was hoping to exhaust all other options first just in case the lost photos are recoverable some how. But if that's my only option left I might just contact HTC about it.
You could be having an SD card issue. My SD card has been replaced and formatted more than once. My pix disappear, and my music disappears. I use a ringtone from my music folder and my phone keeps un-mounting my sd as if it's not in the phone. I know when it happens because my notification and ringtones change.

Ok so I tried getting in touch with HTC but they didn't respond to my email. I logged onto a live chat with them but I got disconnected because they finish at 6pm.
Then I decided to just format the SD card. I figured if I haven't been able to recover those lost pictures by now, I never will be. Besides the phone was getting worse. I could no longer take pics through Instagram and an HTC software update wouldn't download because apparently my phone storage was "read only" which isn't true.
Any way I formatted the SD card twice and set it only for storage not for installing apps and the phone seems to work fine now. I can actually select phone storage in the camera app now where before it wasn't an option. I also no longer get errors when saving screenshots. The whole thing was so weird I'm just glad it seems to be ok now.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
Hi, wondering if anyone can help. I moved over to an S20. Before doing so, I copied all my whatsapp media/any pics saved on my internal SD off my old s9 onto my pc, and then transferred them back to the new phone. So far all good. All my pics are there. The problem is, when I open the gallery, it takes an age to load them. The same thing when I navigate to the folder in file manager. ok there's over 30k pics, but it shouldn't be an issue if it works fine on the old phone.
I also noticed that the ".thumbnails" folder isn't being created within DCIM, or anywhere for that matter. Not sure if it's linked or not. Anyways, the phone internal storage is a lot quicker than my old s9, so it can't be a speed issue. Any ideas what I can do? Media storage only shows as using 100mb. I was going to try clear the data for Media Storage, but on Android 11 it seems to be greyed out. I tried adb shell pm clear com.android.providers.media but that doesn't do anything
Anything I can try or any recommedations?
Sympathy bump
Scope storage? It's so secure... yeah whatever.
I also noticed weirdly that if I take the ad card out, it loads a crap load quicker.
